We don't get out much anymore but when we do we want to try the best of the best. The reviews for La Fete did not disappoint! I started off with a lemon cello spritz and it was delicious. For our app we got the potato pave the crisp was perfection and honestly could've eaten three servings. Glad I saved room for the crab cake because it was one of the best I've ever had. I've never had it paired with green beans but was pleasantly surprised!! Last but not least, our server was incredible. He was very attentive and helped us newbies with a very French menu. If you've never tried French food or are just looking for a new favorite spot this is it.

Potato pate was good. Sauce was supposed to be ranch inspired but I felt it was a bit bland and tasted like sour cream.

Excellent food, wine was average and service was excellent. I enjoyed the atmosphere but it got a bit loud after 7 because of the crowd. No one seemed to mind tho. Despite an enjoyable dinner which includes apps, entree and wine, I have to caution you that LaFete is expensive. I am not sure that I feel the cost was worth a return trip.

Came here for a solo dinner and really enjoyed the ambiance, which reminded me of French cafe culture in the best way. I would definitely revisit and try different dishes, as it was a great overall experience. I received excellent service at the bar, where the bartender provided great recommendations for their French wines, all of which I found were "Très magnifique". I also learned about new wines I look forward to exploring back home. For dinner, I opted for the smaller plates, including: - the potato pave with caviar - steak tartare - chocolate custard. My favorite dish was by far the potato pave with caviar. The steak tartare was the most flavorful I've had, with its own twist and a hint of chili to add a kick to the palate. I enjoyed the waffle fries, which were super crispy, but I found them way too salty after a while. At times, the saltiness competed with the flavors of the tartare, though it might be a Birmingham thing with really salty fries. I finished my meal with a cappuccino and the chocolate custard, which was very smooth and creamy. Great way to wrap up a great meal. I can't wait to return the next time I'm in town, as it definitely has a unique vibe. Happy dining, y'all!

First time here for dinner and it was amazing! Only con is how small the restaurant is and how loud it got. Food was 10/10! Potato pave was my Fav appetizer! Steak tartare was still excellent, but more of a carby Barbie myself! The fish was like butter! It was so yum! Good lemon and cooked perfectly! My husband got the steak and said it was cooked perfectly! I had a bite and I will say that steak was 10/10! Highly recommend! Ended with the dessert charcuterie and those olives were the star! The dessert wine was pretty tasty too! Overall it was amazing and I would definitely be back! Recommend a reservation!

One of the best French restaurants I've ever been to. Jackson at the bar is just great & a master of the craft. All the staff are very engaged & assure you have a spectacular experience. The owner is onsite & is very welcoming. Food and drinks are second to none. Lively place with a medium noise level. Great place for a date night or if you are like me, in town for work & want great drinks & food. The outside seating area is super nice as well.

Morris Avenue - historic in itself. Very small restaurant but personable. I can see the inspiration behind French cuisine and service and it was well done! At some points though the waiters/waitresses were in tight quarters between chairs/tables. Brioche rolls handsdown stole the show! We knew the honey and butter couldn't be passed up and were so happy we took up the opportunity. Rolls had previously ran out earlier in the afternoon according to our waitress. We were served complimentary champagne as part of our second anniversary celebration. Hubby got the burger which was not pictured but the snapper en papilotte was spectacular, I didn't want the flavors to end! The cheeseburger was enjoyed. Fair warning if you do not like crispy waffle fries, do not ask to sub them for their regular frites. The waffle fries were seasoned well but not fluffy, very light. The frites on the other hand had better substance and presentation. Staff was very helpful in providing us both as the waffle fries were not what we were expecting. Overall we enjoyed our evening!

This was our first time here, and will most likely be our last. Things went wrong from the moment we sat down, which should have been an indicator of a bad night. I selected to come here to celebrate my husband's bday because I've heard some wonderful things about the place, plus it's one of the few restaurants open on a Sunday night in Bham. When we were greeted, it was noted that we were there celebrating a birthday, and that we would get some bubbly to celebrate. That drink never came. That was disappointing. Our waiter was super occupied with other tables (maybe those drinking more alcohol) so there were many extended times that we were just sitting there (waiting to order, waiting for dirty plates to be cleared, etc). The place was packed and we were seated very close to our neighboring tables - so close we could hear all of their conversations. Now, onto the good: the food! We ordered the potato pave and the charcuterie as an appetizer. We were impressed with both of those, and ventured out trying the pate and were pleasantly surprised with how good it was! We were hm self pretty full after the appetizers but we had ordered two entrees so we were able to sample those before asking for them to be boxed up for another meal. My husband got the chicken and potatoes and those were amazing - super flavorful and tender and garlicky - I'd get these again! I got the burger and fries and it was good - the sauce was good and was good to dip the shoe string fries in! We did not get dessert as we had been sitting there for almost two hours already. Thankfully the kids were with grandparents so we weren't paying a babysitter!

Always a must. Whether it's brunch or dinner I'll always say yes. This time we went for a girls brunch and everything was delicious. Service is always good with friendly and attentive staff.

Came here with some friends for dinner, while in town. We had a really great experience with delicious food and good service. The potato pavé is a MUST. It is incredibly delicious. I marveled at how much work went into this simple dish. If you are a fan of charcuterie, definitely get it. I loved the house-smoked bratwurst so much, I'm still dreaming about it. The chicken liver mousse and country pâte were also solid. Beef Tartare was exceptionally tasty, and the lattice potato chips were such an ideal accompaniment, adding another level of saltiness and crunch. I also shared the trout with a friend -- perfectly cooked and great seasonings. The only thing I was slightly disappointed by was the escargot. Its flavor was lacking. Perhaps a touch more salt would have livened it up. My friends also had dessert, and the profiteroles are served with tableside ganache service. All in all, a very enjoyable meal indeed.

Shocked that it has taken me so long to try this place but it was such a great choice for brunch! We got there right when they opened and were seated on the patio immediately. Right off of Morris so it has a very European feel as you don't have to deal with the noise and pace of traffic. I got an espresso martini and an eggs Benedict. Both were amazing and great suggestion from our waiter. Looking forward to returning to this little gem again

Food first, thoughts after... I really enjoyed this cute brunch stop with friends. The food was delicious. Starting from the cream used for the cream puff to the tangy vinaigrette salad. Beautiful to the eyes and amazing to the taste buds.

Enjoyed the escargot and roasted half chicken. The breast was a little dry, but flavor was good. Place was decorated well. I was not impressed with the service. It was incredibly slow.

Super quaint restaurant. Small, cozy tables. Indoor and outdoor dining. Chic bar. Downtown Birmingham on a cobblestone road. Perfect for dinner with a friend or a different little date night. Service was wonderful and attentive. Order: Potato Pavé with caviar and the Lemon Meringue Tart.

As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by shelves of wines, charcuterie boards, and gourmet accompaniments, making it a fun place to browse before your meal. Unfortunately, my first impression of the service wasn't the strongest. When I approached the host stand, I was greeted with, "What do you want?" While it may have been an off moment or simply a poor choice of words, it didn't feel particularly welcoming. Since I was standing at the host stand in the dining area, I assumed it would be clear that I was there to eat. I was also initially directed toward the bar, despite it being nearly full and located in a busy area where staff were constantly moving through. Since I was dining solo and wanted a more relaxed experience, I asked about patio seating instead, and thankfully that was available. Once seated, my experience improved considerably. My server struck the perfect balance between being attentive and giving me space to enjoy my meal. Since it was my first visit, I had several questions about the menu, and he was knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely happy to offer recommendations. I decided to order one of the daily specials along with a build-your-own charcuterie board and a Kir Royale to drink. The Heirloom Tomato Salad was an excellent choice. It was fresh, vibrant, and had a flavor profile that set it apart from the many tomato salads I've had before. It's the kind of seasonal special I'd happily order again. For my charcuterie board, I selected Soppressata, Prosciutto, and Gin & Juice for the meats, along with Campo de Montalbán and Midnight Moon cheeses. Everything paired beautifully with the accompanying bread, nuts, and garnishes. Each bite felt thoughtfully curated, and it made for a leisurely meal that encouraged slowing down and savoring each combination. The Kir Royale was equally enjoyable--light, bubbly, and refreshing. It complemented the charcuterie perfectly and is an easy recommendation if you're looking for a celebratory cocktail. One of my favorite parts of the visit was the patio. It was the perfect place to enjoy Birmingham's beautiful weather while people-watching and taking in the neighborhood. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, making it easy to linger over the meal. Before leaving, I had one more interaction with the hostess that left me a bit puzzled. Since I was dining alone, I took my belongings with me when I went to the restroom after letting my server know where I was headed and asking him to bring my check. As I walked back, the hostess commented, "I thought you had gone." While she may not have intended anything by it, the remark came across as though she assumed I had left without paying, which made for another awkward interaction. I settled my bill at the front counter without issue, but it reinforced my initial impression of the hospitality at the host stand. Overall, I'd rate Red or White an **8/10**. The food, drinks, patio, and service from my server made for a very enjoyable experience, and I would absolutely return for another charcuterie board and cocktail. The only thing holding this visit back from earning a higher rating was my experience with the hostess. Hospitality begins the moment a guest walks through the door, and small interactions can have a lasting impact. Even so, the quality of the food and atmosphere makes this a spot I'd happily visit again.

Just a great demeanor, attentive, and made us feel very comfortable. Food - delicious! Amazing cuisine. We had the following which was great: bread, escargot, scallops, mussels and coconut cake. Seriously truly delicious. Ambience- the restaurant is nice. I don't love the wooden bottom chairs. The sound level is high as well so very hard to hear at times. Definitely a lively environment. When you walk in, you're greeted with a warm welcome and transported into an old, cozy cafe in a small French town. Our waitress, Holly, was delightful and knowledgeable about the menu. I started with a Pimm Rose Spritz and thought it was light and refreshing - I was afraid it'd taste like an Aperol spritz but it didn't - no bitterness at all. Mom got an alpine daiquiri and raved about it. We opted for escargots, a fresh baguette, and marinated olives as apps and couldn't have loved them more. The bread was warm and made a nice vehicle for the garlic sauce leftover from the escargots. I got the trout amandine and it was as divine as I remember. I had this dish back in 2020 (I know that specifically because we had to sit outside in a plastic tent to dine here) and have been thinking about it ever since. Would highly recommend. The trout is buttery and flaky and has a light almond-like sauce with slivered almonds on top. Mom got the roasted chicken and veggies and loved how it was cooked to perfection. Everything is so simple yet exquisite. Parking wasn't a huge issue, especially for it being downtown. There are spots in front of the building that you pay for on an app (it was $2) and they offered valet as well. I would absolutely have a reservation (it may even be required). We went on a Tuesday at 4:45 and it was packed by 5. We will be back time and time again!
