Been here a few times. So far extremely consistent and everything seems well prepared every time I've been here. The atmosphere is friendly and they have great decor. The pictures of all the local pets near the bar is a very nice touch. The car trunk with the chips and salsa is creative. Seems like a great place for the family too. I suggest you start off with the jalapeño ranch dip with chips. Their salsa is really good and does have a kick. The guacamole, delicious. Had the comida deluxe. The Tex-Mex enchiladas were delicious. They also have great drinks that are well made. Frozen margaritas or on the rocks is always a good choice. Out of all the Mexican restaurants that I've been to chuys is the biggest one that I have been to even though there is a waiting list we didn't have to wait to long to be seated to our table because my friend went ahead and put us on the waiting list so we didn't have to wait long. They have it set up to where you can eat outside the chips are really good especially their cheese dip it has a nice spice kick to it me personally I didn't like the salsa that much. Very lively and has lots of fun deco around. Service: prompt and friendly like most of Bham. :) Food: there's SO much of it! My husband swears their chips and dip has crack in it...lol. He is addicted to it! The portions are large. You can definitely split your meal in half when it comes and save it for lunch the next day. I waited till i dined here at least twice before reviewing. Had the taco salad the first time and a HUGE burrito the second... the taco salad was good sized and tasty. Seasoning was really good... meat was a little sparse for my taste but good over all!! Now the burrito..? That thing is HUGE!!!!! One if the best burritos i have had in a long while!!! I would have to say the main reason I go to Chuy's would be because of it's convenient location for shoppers at the Summit craving Tex-Mex and of it's super appealing exterior as well as interior decor. Pretty much every time I go, I can expect a decent amount of time to wait. The food however is a hit or miss for me with each visit. With my previous visits, I've always been wanting more. I usually order a quesadilla or their lite plate and am always satisfied. I did not particularly enjoy the items I ordered this last visit. We ordered a guacamole for our table to share as an appetizer along with the complementary chips and salsa. The salsa was hot but still quite good, while the taste of the guacamole pretty much matched up to those of other Mexican places I've been to. When it arrives, it seems to come in a huge serving size for even two or three people to share, but after eating most of it, we noticed that they garnished most of it with shredded lettuce to just make it look big. I thought that was highly disappointing, and they would be better off just not wasting that as a garnish as it's impossible to eat at the same time with the way it is shredded. For my main entree, I ordered a taco salad with fajita chicken and a side of a cilantro vinaigrette that I originally was going to go without. The vinaigrette pretty much saved my entire meal! I don't remember the other dressing options, but ranch was an option I crossed off immediately. I like ranch but I knew the flavor would overpower the whole salad and guacamole and take away from the fact that I'm at a Tex-Mex restaurant. It would be nice if they could start offering maybe queso or nacho cheese as one of the dressing options because the taco salad within itself was extremely dry as was the fajita chicken. I believe having one of these cheeses would only add to the flavor and also better preserve the authenticcity of the Tex-Mex feel they are going for. Although the salad came with guacamole and cheese, it just wasn't enough to compensate. I decided to pour the salsa that they offer while waiting straight into my salad to help with the flavor, and it helped a good bit. It's possible that a beef or steak option in the taco salad would make the taco salad less dry, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to even try their taco salad again. The tortilla shell was also quite bitter for my taste that I resorted to going back to the free chips at our table to eat with my meal. read more

Since it's located in the uber popular Summit, expect a small wait. Once seated, the bright decor and t-shirts with wacky slogans will remind you that this place is a chain. Regardless, the staff is always really friendly and the food and drinks are served quickly, even when it's packed. I wish I could tell you about the whole menu, but I generally stick with the nachos from the appetizer side of the menu. The plates are huge and filled with huge chips. Each chip is individually dressed with all of the nacho ingredients. This menu item is only about $6-$7 and is PLENTY of food for two adults. While most of the food and drinks are good, but nothing exceptional, the cream jalapeño salsa is a different story. It's good enough to keep me coming back. Stayed in Birmingham on our way to Gulf Shores and we were recommended to go here. Our check in was not good. We called ahead to get on the list and we're told it would be 15-20 minutes. We stopped in after 25 minutes and told us that we still had 5 groups ahead of us so we had to wait another 10 minutes. The food was pretty good. I had the spicy beef burrito and it was good. The problem was the service. One of our party did not receive her food with everyone else and we had to remind to get it. My son was to get a dessert and was not offered it. Stopped in for lunch today while shopping at the Summit. I sat at the bar and decided to try their margarita. On the rocks and I ordered the chicken fajita. The bartender and bar back were very friendly and pleasant. The margarita came with an orange slice in it. Not on the side of the glass, but in the drink. I don't like fruit slices in my drink. Not in my water or any other drink. The drink to me was not tasty, and a little strong. The fajita was ok, but nothing great. I have had worse, and better. Love chuys for happy hour! They're free, yes free, nacho bar (with unlimited queso and chips) during happy hour only so keep your time in check is awesome. Plus great drink special, it's a hit to go after work. Outside of that, this is definitely a Tex mex restaurant that is delicious with great drinks! Thought we were going eat like we do at the Houston, TX Chuy's. There was no comparison. We were told the wait would be 45 minutes. We waited for an hour and a half. I ordered a couple of margaritas which were not what I asked for but didn't want to upset the already angry bartender. I think the only alcohol in the drink was sugar alcohols haha. We enjoyed our experience at Chuys. We started birthday festivities with margaritas and had chips and salsa with creamy jalapeño. Next we moved on to dinner. 2/4 plates came out cold. Whoops. Mine was hot but others were not. It took 35 min to get food from the time we ordered. (Had the #7 Veggie chille reño and veggie enchilada. Came with beans and rice) Not a big deal but they did end up comping the 2 cold plates and our dessert. Have you tried the Tres Leches here? It's the best dessert in Birmingham in my opinion. The Elvis chicken is yummy. The taste of Lay's is present but not overwhelming. A novelty done right! My rellenos was good but I got chicken instead of the beef I ordered. I called the restaurant and the manager, Matthew, quickly resolved the error without requiring me to drive all the way back to Chuy's. While on the topic of customer service, EVERYONE we encountered was friendly and professional. I truly liked the slight "crisp" friendliness of Brenda who takes care of take out. You'll know what I mean if you meet her. Perhaps I saw a bit of myself in her. :) The hostesses were working the crowd of hungry folks like a well oiled machine that didn't seem to make anyone impatient enough to throw in the towel. I've visited this Chueys numerous of times but my daughter wanted to come here for her first time. I wanted to change it up this time so I ordered the Shrimp and cheese rellinos. Came for dinner. Management at this place needs to wake up. I guess they must be making money and their clientele accepts mediocre and poor service. This is the 2nd time I've been to the Summit location in 3 years. First time there was a long wait. Over an hour and that was for 3 people. This time we had a party of 9 and arrived at 5:30 on a Wednesday and waited an hour and a half for a table. The woman at front desk was either overwhelmed, does not know how to do her job, or the manager just doesn't care. Maybe all three? When you walk in there's a chaotic feel to the place and the organization is totally lacking. In fact there seems to be little if any concern for the customer; it's kind of like move 'me in and move 'em out. Be prepared to have a struggle with parking. Chuy's does not take reservations so also be prepared to wait. I don't blame the server he was nice enough. When our food came it was fine. Of course we had no utensils and had to wait for those but stuff happens I guess? After the most recent experience I wouldn't recommend this place. Especially if you come with a party of more than 2 people. Workers here don't seem to care and give off the vibe they simply don't want to be there. Management is nowhere to be found. I tried one of the daily specials, the Pork Boom Boom enchiladas which I got spicy. I have always liked the Boom Boom sauce, but it was served only with chicken before. I really do not care for poultry so I jumped at the chance to get this. It was really good and I will go back again for it. Service was good today and the atmosphere was pleasant. My all time favorite on the menu is the Steak Burrito. I add boom boom sauce which is a spicy queso and it's absolutely mind blowing. The fajitas are spot on every time. My wife always gets the quesadillas and swears that they are the best quesadillas she has ever had. The creamy jalapeño sauce is free and is probably the one thing that most everyone raves about whether they love this place or not. The portions are always more than enough and you could easily split some of the combos with another person. Each room has a different theme which is fun and the service is usually always good even though they tend to be on the busier side of things especially on the weekends. If you have a big group they are very accommodating. It's not based out of Birmingham but if you are looking for quality Tex Mex this is the place to come every single time. My parents and I love Chuy's and have never had a complaint. Friday though it was a disappointment. The first issue was I wish they had told us in advance they had a limited menu. I understand why they have a limited menu but they need to inform people at the door. We would have passed and come back another time. We waited a while to get seated so we just went with it. The second issue I had was in my first bite there was a tooth pick in my rice which I almost put in my mouth because I didn't notice it at first. The waitress walked right up as this happened. I said I found a tooth pick in my rice. She just dismissed it and walked off.
