TIP for spicy folk: Boom-Boom enchiladas, but ask for a side of Hatch sauce and just dump it on the enchiladas. Perfect blend of savory and spice. Not as much a fan of the sauces as most, but the hot green, Hatch and regular are pretty dern good. Love the atmosphere here. Totally Austin, unpretentious. I absolutely love this place. The chips, salsa, and Jalapeno Ranch sauce that come complimentary are amazing. The chips are warm, super thin and crispy. The salsa is the perfect amount of heat. The Jalapeno Ranch is literally a sauce dreams are made of. It's so creamy and the freshness of the jalapeno and cilantro make this impossible to stop eating. Like, I had to stop myself from just pouring it in my mouth. I ordered the green chile enchiladas and they were absolutely delicious. The green chile sauce was creamy and decadent, creating a perfect compliment to the chicken underneath. The meat was cooked perfectly and the mushrooms added a nice earthiness to the dish. The refried bean were good (tip: add the jalapeno ranch sauce on these and your life will be made), and the green chile rice was well done. The service here is also very impressive. Our waiter, who kind of looked like Sid from Toy Story was very friendly, and always made sure we had the chips and dip we needed. The food was also delivered in a very timely manner. Lastly, the decor of this place is so fun. Its very eclectic and fun, without being too gaudy. Also, the tee-shirts they have for sale are super puny and clever. I'm so incredibly disappointed in Chuy's. I wish I could give zero stars. I wanted to surprise my husband for his 40th birthday with dinner and a group of friends. They were unwilling to accommodate us in any way. Wouldn't hold a table and wouldn't even let me send someone about an hour earlier to put us on the waiting list. That would have been a real shitty surprise in the waiting area. How unfortunate. We are a BUNCH of ex service industry folks. We would have spent all kinds of money and truly taken care of our server. Thankfully, Threadgills on N Lamar was more than happy to make my hubbies surprise dinner a success! Lesson learned. Chuy's is a must stop for me when visiting Texas. Best Tex-Mex I've ever had. Warning be prepared to wait as this place gets really busy even late into the evening hours. I love that in the waiting area a server will check with you to see if they can get you a drink while you wait. YES please. They do have a closed in outside dining area also the heating lamps weren't working very well so we waited for a table inside. Every time I'm here I order something different and I've not been disappointed yet. They have fabulous chips and salsa and the flavor of the food is great. Really good drink menu too. The staff is fantastic and friendly. I've never had bad service here. They sell pretty cool tee shirts that are great collectors items as they rotate new ones in regularly. Chuy's is a great place for family, friends and a date night. If your looking for a quiet atmosphere this is not the place. My husband and I love going to Chuy's for happy hour. Service has always been good at this location. They have their free nachos car during happy hour and discounted drinks. This last time I ordered their new black raspberry margarita and it was fruity and delicious. Their Mexican martinis and other flavored margaritas are always made well. I've been eating at Chuy's since I arrived in Austin, way back in '94! In fact, I eat at Chuy's at least once per week with this location best location in my opinion. Not sure if it's the staff or the consistency of the food, but the noise level makes it just right to enjoy a dinner out with a friend or a group. No shouting needed compared to other locations. I'm a big fan of their Carne Gusada burrito that I always top with queso. This is a special menu item that only appears on Sundays for other locations, but this one has it everyday, kuddos to that alone! Went to Chuys last night. The service from the get go sucked. The waiter Had mentioned he had been there all day(no excuse). We had to keep calling Him over for things we needed,rather than him coming to check on us. I order One chicken deluxe enchilada(which are so good) 15 minutes go(or longer) and I call the waiter over and ask him about it. He finally goes to check and when he comes out with my enchilada is CHEESE only. There is more to this horrible service, but LONG story short. The manager Zeke comes to our table grabs a chair and sits, he goes on to ask us about problems we were having. Zeke went above and beyond to make this visit right. I have never seen a Manager so genuinely sorry for this service we had. He took care of us (not that we were asking to be). He made it right. HAPPY HOUR REVIEW: I met two of my girlfriends here to have some margaritas and toast the fact that I put my notice in at work! We grabbed a table and ordered a queso and grabbed some of the ground beef off of the bar to add into it. Of course we also got some creamy jalapeno dip. I ordered a frozen orange margarita and it was boozey, delicious and just what I needed. The service at this location is the best! Our server refilled our chips quickly, engaged in conversation, made us laugh and was patient while we enjoyed cocktails and our queso for a while before ordering. When we did order he brought it out quickly, was quick with boxes and cashing us out even though he was super busy. The queso, creamy jalapeno, chips and margaritas were all good per usual at any of the locations. It also doesn't hurt to have a happy hour special on margaritas!! What really stood out to me at this location was my shrimp tacos were even more delicious than usual. It seemed like the seasoning on them was better and it never hurts to add the avocado to them. Excellent Tex-Mex food in Austin Texas. Better than the regular Tex Mex fare found in Austin. Beams were very tasty and the rice was also very good. Margaritas were $6.50 and were very good. The price was very reasonable for the meal and drinks, about $29 for two folks plus a 20% tip. Complimentary Tornow ills chips were served hot and with a tomato base salsa as well as a jalapeño ranch dip... yummy. Guacamole was freshly made and delicious. Not something that happens at every Tex-Mex restaurant. Don't expect Traditional Mexican or you'll be disappointed, If Traditional Mexican, Interior style food is what you need then go to Fonda San Migel on Hancock drive. Seating was quick at 5:30PM. Service was very very good thanks to our waiter Lars... I order the Comida Delux. I usually order them he Elvis Presley dinner, which continues to be my all time fav. I will be back for sure. New to Austin from San Diego, Chuy's was recommended by co-workers and it did not disappoint. It was busy, but no wait. Atmosphere was inviting, fun and relaxing. Once our server, Stephanie, found out it was our first time she brought out a sample of each of the sauces to try with the complementary chips and pico. She also brought out the creamy jalapeno sauce (name escapes me now) and let us know it's always complementary, but you have to ask. It was really good. The food was also really good, the portions huge... had to take a round two home. Stephanie was awesome, making sure we had everything we needed, dropping off refills without even asking, brought to go packaging without even asking. The portions here are huge, so much that I fell into a deep, deep food coma after eating my meal. What did I get you ask? Unfortunately, I can't remember as it was nearly 2 months ago now, but I can tell you that is hit the spot. Our waitress was on the ball and regularly checked up on us, making sure our waters were topped off and we had enough chips. I ordered the Tex Mex combo with an ala carte mini burrito and asked to substitute the salad for a small cup a soup, a request I have made since 2014 and never had an issue. I also worked at the Waco location during college and never turned down that request. We ate there for dinner. We had chika chika boom boom. i love it, my friend loves it too. Perfect food, perfect portion, perfect sauce. It was crowded (probably because of saturday night?) but the waitress was really good and she was able to maintain her skills. We got our food pretty quick and dont forget to get the creamy jalapeno too. The price was alright. One thing i dont like was their booth, chairs. Oh my, they need to replace them badly. Creamy Jalapeno Sauce! Sounds delicious...doesn't it? Yeah...I wouldn't know. Our server failed to bring us any. Yes, I did ask. Apparently, I didn't deserve any. Well, to say Chuy's is good would be an overstatement. On the other hand, saying it's bad would also be an overstatement. I guess the most appropriate thing to say is...it's just kinda there. Other than forgetting my Creamy Jalapeno Sauce request, my server was...um...efficient and cordial? Dude, I can tell you aren't happy about your job, but a little personality and attentiveness goes a long way. The hostess, on the other hand, was adorable and bubbly. I can take or leave the food. It was pretty much the standard Tex-Mex fare with nothing outstanding about it. My companion had the taco salad and was mighty disappointed that the meat had no seasonings in it. He found the entire dish to be bland. My chicken enchiladas were adequate. The accompanying rice was overcooked and bland. While waiting for the food to arrive, I read that you have a choice of rices and beans. Damn you again server! No mention that I had options! Oh, well...maybe it's my fault for assuming that one gets into the service industry to provide...service? The Queso is not veggie friendly, but our server told us about the 'Boom Boom Sauce' that isn't on the menu and that is a really spicy cheese sauce that somehow my burrito was swimming in. They make their tortilla chips in-house and they taste almost as good as El Milagros! They have 1,000 hand carved and painted wooden fishes all over the place and Elvis paintings and other things.
