I'm not sure how I haven't been to this place before, but that little problem has finally been rectified. The soft serve is AMAZING. My gold standard has always been Anderson's, but this is even better. It has a fuller, creamier taste. I tried one of their sundaes with Nutella and waffle cone bits. It was gorgeous to look at and equally as tasty. I also tried one of their homemade churros. It was crunchy, cinnamony and sugary and just heavenly all around. There's no such thing as having too many ice cream places, but Churn distinguishes itself from its Hertel neighbors with its focus on soft serve. I tried the Yelp Special, vanilla soft serve mixed with carrot cake and candied walnuts. My husband had the Jiro Dreams of Ice Cream sundae, green tea soft serve with red bean, coconut jelly, fresh strawberry and Japanese black sugar syrup. I tasted a bit of his sundae, and really liked the green tea soft serve. I'm not a huge carrot cake fan (I'll eat it, but if I had my choice in cakes, carrot wouldn't be my first pick), but the Yelp Special was pretty tasty, and I'll give Churn some credit for their creativity in thinking it up. Churn just had their grand opening today. They were pretty busy. As soon as you walk in it smells yummy like a cinnamony cookie crumble. The inside is cute and the ambience is nice. I originally went in to check it out and try the Yelp Ice Cream special, but it's not available til Monday. It's also some sort of carrot cake ice cream sundae, so I might not try it. BUT, my cousin and I tried the Unbirthday Sundae AND it was AMAZING!! The custard is so creamy and yummy. I got my Sundae with Chocolate and she got hers with Green Tea custard. She loved the soft serve green tea. The SPRINKLES in the Unbirthday Sundae are AMAZING! They're different shapes, sizes and flavors!! The mini cupcake and the strawberry Macaroon! I have fallen in love with Churn after trying the Billionaire ice cream cone. I never thought a Ferrero Rocher like ice cream could be created but I was wrong. Churn is well priced and connected to Lloyd's which is extra convenient when you're craving an ice cream and taco combo type of night. The only drawback is how large the scoops are. I would come much more often if Churn offered smaller scoop and sundae sizes. I have found when ordering a cone and sundae that I cannot finish more than half (and I LIKE to eat) of the order. Churn would be my favorite ice cream location in Buffalo if smaller scoop options were offered but for now, I suppose I can just split the cone or sundae. read more

I greatly prefer soft serve to hard ice cream, and Churn gets it right every time! The location is great, right on Hertel next to Lloyd's, so a super fun place to head with friends in the evening (though parking can be a bit of a pain). Though it's always busy, we've never had much of an issue finding somewhere to sit. We especially enjoy the patio and hanging out with the well behaved four legged friends who enjoy the pup cups from there! I always choose to get the Billionaire cone, which to me is the perfect combination of toppings for someone with a sweet tooth. The wafer pieces add the perfect crunch, and the Nutella is the perfect complement to their velvety smooth soft serve. My only recommendation is to grab more napkins than you think you'll need - for me, the Nutella sort of acts as a sticky net that ends up pulling toppings with it when you take a bit! Overall would recommend Churn to anyone with a sweet tooth, looking to entertain their friends, or looking for a fun place to bring out of towners to show off some of the Buffalo local foodie scene! read more

First impression the ice cream is just okay. I had the Take 6 and honestly, it was something I felt I could have made at home with the pretzel and caramel topping on regular chocolate ice cream. Not much of a wow factor with flavor on that one. The same was true mint sundae thing that my partner had. That being said the other combinations did intrigue me. Matcha/green tea ice cream is on my bucket list, but given that they were out of my desired topping I passed tonight. The service is very fast but I think they are struggling to keep up supply with their on-fire popularity right now. If one wants to try the full variety available I suspect it's best to stop in during the day when they are not in their post-dinner-everyone-wants-ice cream rush. I can also see this being a decent place to stop in the winter as they have a variety of coffee options, which will be great on cold days when ice cream alone won't suffice. Also of note- Churn is worth it to stop in to just for the smell! The scent of freshly made waffle cones sent my nose into over drive! read more

I hate to say this but I was underwhelmed. Admittedly I had high expectations because I know Lloyds is a favorite in Buffalo. I chose the Cookie Monsta. I was expecting soft cookie pieces, but it was more of just hard crunchies. The soft serve definitely lacked flavor. If it wasn't for the coconut shavings I wouldn't have tasted much. My husband on the other hand enjoyed his Gramma Angies cone. The cream cheese frosting was his favorite part. The service was OK. Yummy!!!! I was so excited to see that Lloyd's did it again and opened another great place to eat with one of my favorite things-ice cream! I got lucky and went around 3pm on Friday and we didn't have to wait in line at all. The staff was very helpful and friendly. In addition to ice cream they also have coffee and tea. I wouldn't mind trying the tea (not a huge coffee person) but I feel that ice cream will probably win out every time because I love dessert. I love that it is all soft serve. When we went they were out of coconut but they did have it available in the fridge in pints. I felt this was a great option and we decided to get a pint of the coconut and I think ordered the Shortie cake sundae. The sundae had vanilla soft serve, strawberries, and lemon shortcake. This place is incredibly adorable on the inside with gorgeous graphics on the walls that are fun and super sized. They have a nice selection of specialty cones and sundaes, with interesting names and thoughtful toppings. I recently had one with Nutella and chocolate candy bits on top, and it was delicious. I like that they have coconut ice cream available which you don't often see in a place with limited flavors. They even have freezy pops that are homemade, available! They also have espresso and coffees, so there is something for everyone, even those who don't want a sweet after a meal. Amazing! I went in to this cute ice cream shop and was greeted by a very jovial, happy staff member. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted and she convinced me to get the red velvet room. It was orgasmic! I was actually surprised when I got my ice cream and it came with 2 wonderful churros! The red velvet room consists of vanilla soft serve, lemon zest, cream cheese and red velvet cake bits and 2 pieces of churros. It was really good and pretty affordable too. Yum!!! You really can't go wrong at Churn. There's something for everyone even vegans will find a treat. My favorite is The Billionaire. It's soft serve with hazelnuts and Nutella with wafer pieces and golden pearls! I've gone there several times with several people and it is consistently delicious. The staff is always very thorough and thoughtful and go the extra mile to make everyone's experience pleasant. The home made churros are also delicious!! Amazing ice cream!! I got a chocolate cone with their classic yellow sprinkles. The ice cream was so thick and creamy- definitely one of the best I've ever had! I was not a huge fan of the yellow sprinkles though. You can tell they made them and it was a different texture than regular jimmies. I wasn't a huge fan of the texture of the coconut ice cream because it's not really ice cream. It's vegan ice "cream" and was more of an ice slush texture. But my sundae was excellent. The vanilla soft serve was perfect, as are the unique toppings! I consider this a "boutique" ice cream shop. It's very unique, and even unusual, and well isn't that just SO BUFFALO. Such clever pairings and fresh takes on old favorites. The menu is unlike anything I've ever encountered in our area and only compares to cool places I've been in Toronto, LA, Portland, etc. And where can you get ice cream that doesn't have an obscene amount of sugar in it and actually tastes like ice cream is meant to? Mmm. The Ferrero cone and Unbirthday sundae were my first two faves. I had the Secret of the Week yesterday and it was a salted caramel chocolate extravaganza, complete with bananas flambé, caramel pudding and pearls, and whipped cream. I have been to Churn twice now and both times there has been a line out the door. I think it's because you get ice cream out of the deal, but I could be wrong. Anyways, the first time I stopped in I was with a group of fellow Yelpers and we got the Yelp special. This was a carrot cake sundae which was good, but not great. I did, however, admire the simplistic decor and comfy booths. It's also really clean in there. I figured I'd try them again and do something outside of the sundae realm. So, my second visit. I went with my boyfriend yesterday to get a soft serve. Wait, that's a lie. It was not my intention to get a soft serve. I really wanted to have the Take 6 sundae because Take 5 is my favorite candy bar. It sounds amazing but unfortunately it contained pretzels, and as a gluten free person, I was worried. I asked the cashier to leave the pretzels out but unfortunately the ingredients are already mixed together. The cashier was really kind and apologetic about it, which was appreciated. I figured I'd try the vegan coconut soft serve at this point because dairy causes my body to have inflammation (ice cream is worth it, but...still). I also got vegan caramel sauce on it, which was exactly like regular caramel sauce. The coconut not-ice-cream was delicious. I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. It tasted like macerated coconut but with a pretty similar texture to regular soft serve. I don't know how this magic was performed, but I'm grateful. My boyfriend got the Jiro Dreams of Green Tea sundae, and let me tell you, it was weird. I liked it that way though! Red beans on ice cream is indeed odd, but my boyfriend enjoyed it and the ingredients were fresh. I'm definitely coming back and bringing my dad, a lover of all things coconut. I was pleasantly surprised that there was not a line on the Saturday night that we visited. However, it's apparently a big bad deal that they've been out of the coconut ice cream. I don't care about that; I'd never eat coconut ice cream anyways. But, we enjoyed our first visit here! I had the Gramma Angie cone, which was vanilla ice cream topped with oatmeal raisin cookies and filled with a delectable cream cheese frosting. I have to say, that frosting was the best part. I am a firm believer in the idea that the best ingredients leads to better quality. But the best quality necessitates the best recipe. As I sit here with the bottom of this giant cone dripping into a Walmart bag I had in the car, I am thinking about how this can be the "best." I just think it's too cold. When I get soft serve from 2 Scoops it isn't as cold, so I can eat it easier. This is a gigantic cone for $3.49, and the waffle part itself is amazing.
