It saddens me to write this. I've been coming here since my parents used to bring us as kids (35-40 years ago). I've been bringing my kids here for the past 20 years and we've made some great memories here. They're now grown and my wife and I decided to come back to relive old memories. Sadly we were disappointed with the day old baby back ribs and Hawaiian chicken. It's obvious that the quality and taste of the food here has declined. I've been here twice in the last 6 months or so. I wish I lived closer. Both times I went during lunch; the daily special menu prices were very reasonable. The first visit, I had a chopped beef sandwich with fries. The sandwich was on a hoagie roll and was huge! I had to take half to-go. The fries were tasty. We got a side of their gravy to dunk our fries. Absolutely the star of the whole meal!! So creamy and good, just like my grandmother's!! I could drink that stuff! We came in on a Thursday afternoon around one. We were greeted as soon as we entered. There was no waiting and we were seated with menus immediately. Just a few minutes later our waitress Norma took our drink order, they serve Pepsi products. Norma was friendly and attentive. She brought extra napkins and filled our sodas with out us asking!! We had the crispy onion rings served with ranch and the signature sauce!! I ordered my favorite ribs!!! Smokey sauced goodness!! Messy and worth it!! My son ordered his favorite BBQ pork sandwich. The pork is shredded, tender and flavorful!! I had a bite to make sure :) My sister ordered her favorite BBQ ham sandwich. She enjoyed the tender smoked ham smothered in the signature sauce. If you want some old-school barbecue that your grandparents would've taken you to, this is the place for you. I always go for lunch because the portions are very generous and there's a good variety. I read about the decent reviews about this place. I was sadly disappointed. It was probably once a great BBQ Spot to go to, but no longer. The food had some flavor, but not enough for me to want to come back. I had the beef ribs with chicken . I had more bone than meat on my ribs. The same went for my chicken. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The service is dated, seats are torn. It would be something if the food was good. Then I would not care about the decor. We ordered for 2 large beers, when she brought our beers she severed us 2 schooners I asked if these were large beers she replied that they are large beers. Time to pay the bill they had charged us for 2 schooner $13.+which are 4 dollars more and are 20 oz and large beer are 22 oz and $9.+, I brought it to the waitress attention she lied and said that she had told us that schooner was the only size they serve import beers. I asked her to charge us for what we had asked for, her reply was she couldn't make the change because her manager won't be in until tomorrow and I can come in tomorrow and deal with it with the manger. Well, we've been going here for many many years there used to be one in Van Nuys, California on victory Boulevard which we were 2 to 3 times a week as a kid they shut down that location in the late 80s I believe so me and my son went there today and as we were having lunch, the owner's daughter walked up to us. I believe what her granddaughter and thanked us for coming in, which was very special. It meant a lot so whoever would like to participate in keeping this beautiful family owned great restaurant going food is comforting very good Always.service is good. Prices are good and it's how you're supposed to get your order hot and fresh. We ordered the two pork chop lunch special with french fries and I had a chicken and rice soup which was fabulous. My son ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy again fabulous cause we shared so please come to this beautiful family own spot and keep it going so my grandkids could enjoy it the way I did with mine. Our family has been coming here for generations, and the nostalgia is quelled every visit. Our server, Norma, was phenomenal. There was an incident with the front door being locked when we arrived, but that seemed to be handled best by the ladies up front (definitely not the young man who gave everyone attitude). I've been a Chris & Pitts lover since I was a wee tot! I remember in the early 2000s my family would frequent the location in Bellflower. Man, I have some awesome memories of food and family when I think of this restaurant. My boyfriend and I stopped by while in town and we're craving some bbq. Idk what it was about this time but the food did not hit the way it used to I know it's been awhile since I've had their food so I'm not sure what happened. The ribs were dry, the garlic bread had no flavor - just char. The fries were delicious though, was always one of my favs haha. My boyfriends pulled pork sandwich was okay. It was just a large roll filled with pulled pork. No slaw or anything. It was just overwhelmingly meaty and sweet? If that makes any sense. Service was meh. The waiter had to be located on two different occasions and then towards the end we felt rushed out. Not cool but it's alright, we're all entitled to bad days. All in all, I was a bit bummed with my experience this time at C&P's. I might stop by the Bellflower location just to compare the food and experience. Very sad horrible experience I used to frequent Chris and Pitts in Whittier on Washington Boulevard for many years before they closed. Unfortunately, this one was nothing like it. The food was terrible. The ribs were dry, hard, overcooked and no flavor, and that's what chris n Pitts was always about their specialty used to be the ribs, not anymore, and the service was extremely slow, you really need to train your servers to be more attentive pre-bus their tables, suggestive sell and when you see a family with two tiny children, recommend only one dinner to split among the children because the portions were very big instead of wanting to make that extra dollar don't order a margarita. It's all lime juice, very disappointed, especially that my son-in-law took my daughter and I out there for our birthdays. Servers should at least greet their table within 60 seconds even if it's passing by saying I'll be with you in a moment not approach over five minutes later the only plus was the server was very nice. Unfortunately, we will never be back. The ribs are better at Super A maybe those cooks need to teach these cooks how to make soft fall off the bone ribs that are very tasty. read more

Very sad to say this evening I'm going to need to close the door on a 40+ year relationship. Been going to Chris n Pitt's from way back in the day, the one in Bellflower. A family tradition, when my Dad would "splurge" and take his family of six to Chris n Pitts for dinner. Tonight after all-day appointments in LA, we decided to "treat" ourselves to a terrific prime rib dinner, What a huge disappointment on multiple levels. Our server, Anita E. must either have had a very bad day or not care about what a difference a pleasant accommodating server can make in the guests visit & experience. It is reflected in your tips. We found her abrupt, short and unpleasant & very mechanical in her interactions verbally. No hi, hello, just-are you ready to order...do you need more time? Very fast to take order and quickly walk away. Anita seemed to be inconvenienced when we asked for additional condiments and napkins. She displayed no smile, warmth, interest, nada, zip...nothing. After trying to unsuccessfully get her attention to request more sour cream, we asked the young lady, Cassidy who seemed to be acting as hostess, seating guests; if she would mind asking our server to please bring us additional sour cream. She was very polite, made eye contact and said, sure no problem. Less than a minute later Cassidy cheerfully brought over two containers of sour cream. I thanked her and she replied with a smile, your welcome! Food quality has deteriorated to the point that tonight was the nail in the coffin. Thin, overcooked prime rib that was way too tough. We had both ordered the Queen cut prime rib, there was a significant different in sizes. Baked potato that seemed long past its prime. Toast, close to burnt. Beef barley soup that was one thick hot mess of wad....meat, overcooked tasteless vegetables. It was way thicker than a stew and clearly not a soup. When we left, Cassidy smiled and said good-bye and to have a great evening. Anita should take some pointers from Cassidy. I will have great memories from all our years together. I sincerely hope if the restaurant intends to stay open that management takes into consideration the feedback you are receiving in these reviews. With 3 locations across the east side of Los Angeles you can't go wrong, the food is uniformly delicious at all their locations. We've been eating at all of them for years! Happy to report the flavors, portions and service are still intact. At The Lakewood location, I hope you have the pleasure to be served my Yari (aka Yaritza) she is the best. Her smile is felt through the face mask. She's been working at Chris n Pitts for over 18 years and she deserves a raise! Now for the food. I don't know what they put in their blue cheese dressing for the small salad they serve, but it's the best from LA to Tokyo, it's the best. THE HAWAIIAN STYLE CHICKEN is amazing! It's a staple item of the menu, but It's sweet, so be forwarded you'll get a toothache. If you like sweet, tangy a la teriyaki sauce this is the dish for you. We didn't get ribs this time around but we highly recommended the baby back ribs. Any cut of steak is always cooked to order and the wood flavor really comes through. The mouth watering mash potatoes are truly a smash, the gravy will kick your taste buds into happy little buds having a party in your mouth. First time trying the Michelada and it was good. No room for desert, so I can't help you there. All in all this restaurant has been hitting the spot (in your tummy) for locals for years. I'm happy it's still going strong. When I travel I go on line to look for specific foods that I like that are close. One in particular is Broasted Chicken, which I fell in love with the few times I have had it. I read all the reviews, both good and not so good here, and didn't care about the negative ones, I wanted this for my dinner. Couldn't wait. Inconsiderate. The C&P by my house was closed. I have been ordering through Uber Eats, because it is the only way to enjoy their food. I have always ordered for take out. These folks at this location are careless . Always missing items or condiments I paid for. Although I love C&P, this location is no substitute for the one they closed in Whittier. Good luck getting someone to answer the phone there. I called and called until I hid my number and they finally picked up. I got an apology and an offer for a free meal; but they are missing the point. Their customer service is tainted and needs to improve. They are not Taco Bell, get it together people. Just skip the headache. Whittier misses their beloved C&P, but the people working in Downey are not it. I plan to follow up with Corporate, I should not have to stop liking and ordering their food because their staff is inept. Hold them in account. I took my husband to this location for Valentine's Day. We went just before the dinner rush so it wasn't crowded at all. I chose Chris and Pitt's because it's always been one of his favorites, and we haven't gone there for quite some time, were both so very disappointed. Everything shrank in size, quality and taste was just not the same anymore. We asked for the spicy barbecue sauce and some was brought to our table in a small Styrofoam cup. I ordered the small salad with grilled chicken and it was the smallest thinnest piece of chicken I've ever seen, it was so dry it was more like chicken jerky. My husband ordered the ribs and chicken plate and his ribs were not tender didn't have that Smoky flavor and were burnt. Even the blue cheese dressing didn't taste the same. When I mentioned the serving size of my chicken to our server, and how there are no longer bottles of barbecue sauce on the table, and the yellow chillies are also brought in small plastic containers, and even the salad was very minimal, all he said was I guess everybody's just trying to save money. We have been going to Chris and Pitt's for many many years and we just scratched it off our list. We will likely never go back again. But I'm sure there are many dedicated Chris and Pitt's fans but we remember when the quality and taste were so much better. Not to mention that the restaurant did not look clean at all the trash was overflowing everywhere, and they weren't that busy that they couldn't find somebody to empty the trash in the restrooms and in the kitchen area. I didn't want to complain much because we were on a date night but I was extremely disappointed as was my husband who is not that difficult to please. First off the food is great that's not my problem. I walked in to place an order . I'm guessing an African-American male wearing glasses working the to go window not a hi or hello he said everything's a mess back here. You're gonna have to wait. I had not said one word Just stood there waiting to place my order. He was trying to figure out orders that were on the back counter there was only three bags again. I didn't say one word. I just stood there. Waiting to place my order about 15 minutes later he finally said OK. What do you want,yes, Just like that. I ordered three full racks of baby back ribs. He rolled his eyes like it was too big of an order. He was extremely disappointed in my order. My bill was $151 and change it's not like it was a cheap order I sat down and was waiting Food delivery drivers like Uber eats and Post mates those drivers came in to pick up orders and he told them I haven't even started those orders you might as well tell them just to cancel. It's gonna be a while, and he was very rude about it. I've never been to a restaurant where the employees are trying to turn away business it was just a very weird experience. He clearly needed help the girls back. there were trying to help him they were very patient, but I don't know. I'd rather go somewhere where I'm treated kindly instead of dealing with that. The girls were very nice but they didn't help me. I also want to add that we've been coming to this location for 50 years. I'm not a first time customer and other times we've had great service but this was a to go order as my parents are senior citizens and my dad wanted barbecue food that day. Being that it was Labor Day, I expected the restaurant to be packed, but it wasn't maybe the to go window was busier than it looked but again I only saw three bags waiting for food to be picked up. The cooks were putting food in the window and after the food sat there a good 10 minutes he said to the cooks hey guy, I have no idea what this is. The cook walked to the window, pulled the ticket mind you the only ticket hanging in the window and handed it to him. It just seems like he treats everybody poorly. I've just never received this kind of service at this location. It was very disappointing.**UPDATE** I've spoken to management about this situation and I'm very satisfied with how it's being handled.
