While there are plenty of halal desi food options in Fremont, I try to support local restaurants and rotate between different places, and Chowrasta was one of them. While it may not have been my top choice in town, the food was usually decent until my last experience. I ordered their Tawa Gosht over the phone around 9 PM while coming home from work tired and hungry. Unfortunately, when I got home, the dish was so overloaded with salt that it was completely inedible and had to be thrown away. What disappointed me even more was the response when I called to politely explain the issue. The person on the phone was rude and came across as if they simply did not care. I even provided my phone number but never received any follow up. Because of this experience, I will be removing this place from my list of options. If customer service and accountability matter to you, I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

First time waited in line with one person ahead of me for 30 min only to leave considering it just wasted the time for so long and no other customers in the place. Second time came and ordered roti and butter chicken. I cannot believe how long it took to get my order considering you have 3 customers in the entire place who already received their food. I dont know if its staffing or management or whatever the case is with the delay of service but never coming back here again. You have staff laughing in the back taking their sweet time to complete the order. Got the mutton biryani and it's $20 well spent. I was surprised when I took it out because it was seriously hefty. Weighed it and it's THREE POUNDS EXACTLY. Two hours since purchasing and it was still hot, and flavor was great. Super fragrant and just a little spicy. Chowrasta comes across as a good alternative to Deccan morsels style restaurants. It's more hygienic and has a better vibe but we were disappointed on the main segment - food taste :). Majestic chicken had a strong scent of turmeric, likely this ingredient was used too much, nevertheless it did have an effect on the taste. On the other hand, the chicken 65 had more red color than needed. Both starters weren't that good. The biryani was good, it had a good balance of masala and the chicken was cooked well. I'd likely come back again only for the biryani - will do a take out and skip the hassle of dining in, which is what we did today and didn't like at all. This review is more of a 4.5 stars approximated to 5. I have been wanting to visit this new-ish place for a few weeks now and I'm glad I finally got a chance. The place was mostly empty when we visited around 8:15pm on a Friday evening - surprising considering how good all the food was. There was ample street parking right outside the restaurant as well as nearby. The first thing that caught my attention upon entering was the charming aesthetics of the place - really liked what they did with the place. Ordering is at the counter after which you can choose any empty table, and the food will be brought out to you. The staff at the counter was very informative and nicely explained the specials, what dishes were readily available and what would involve a wait. We went with the mutton haleem, rumali rotis, mutton biriyani and some irani chai. Everything was great. The creamy haleem and hot rumali rotis came out first and wowed us. These are definitely the best or one of the best rumali rotis/breads in the bay area - thin like handkerchiefs, yet soft and tasty. The mutton biriyani involved a long wait but the timing worked out perfectly for us. By the time we were done with the haleem, we were served with a box of fresh, hot, fragrant biriyani. We were totally taken aback by how good the biriyani was. Such delicately spiced subtle flavors are hard to come by in the bay area. I'll definitely be back for the food here. The only thing I didn't like is the food being served in to-go boxes and having to eat biriyani using plastic-ware; it felt jarring and misaligned with the rest of the dining experience which was so royal - the food and the ambience. read more

Also most rude people behind the counter who know nothing about good customer service. I ordered using DoorDash. Since there was no option to add extra roti apart from the one which comes in the combo, I called the store to place the order for that for delivery with my food. They promptly sent me payment link. I paid within a minute. When the order arrived the additional roti was missing. When I called the store they said that we will pack this up you can pick it up. When I told them what's the point of that if I wanted to pickup food why would I use DoorDash. They did not apologize or offer refund just said we were busy. I asked for them showing basic courtesy and refund the additional money. They acknowledged and disconnected the call abruptly. Few days later I checked my account the charge still showed up. So they didn't even bother to cancel the charge. read more
