Veg Pakora
Chetan S.

This time around we tried their Mixed Veg Pakoras, the Lahsuni Saag Paneer and the Chana Masala. The Mixed Veg Pakoras were crunchy, though we felt the ratio of the batter to the veggies was a bit high. But delectable nonetheless ! The Chana Masala was true to the flavors that we find in the northern plains of India and tasty to the last bit. The Lashsuni (Garlicky) Saag (Spinach) Paneer (Indian cottage cheese/tofu) was refreshingly different and more tunes to Nepalese cuisine. We loved every last bit. Note : please call the number on their website and confirm that the truck is on schedule and at the Brentwood Blvd address before you go there!

Steamed chicken momo (after we dug in). Comes with 8 pieces.

Very disappointed. I may have had high expectations for a 4 star reviewed restaurant. The mono"s were not edible.

Updated Review We…read morewent back to Himalayan Kitchen in Mountain View today because we had such a great experience during our first visit, especially with the Vijayawada Boneless Biryani. Unfortunately, today's experience was completely different and very disappointing. We ordered the Vijayawada Boneless Biryani and the Fry Piece Biryani. The boneless biryani was extremely spicy and had only about 6 pieces of chicken with a huge amount of gravy. This was nothing like the biryani we had during our first visit. We brought this to the person's attention while the food was right in front of him. Instead of acknowledging the issue, he initially told us that wasn't true. He eventually said sorry, but then told us they couldn't compensate us because the biryani was already over. We never even asked for compensation, so that response was especially upsetting and unnecessary. The Fry Piece Biryani was also very underwhelming. What makes this more disappointing is that we specifically came back because our first experience was so good. We genuinely loved the Vijayawada Boneless Biryani during our first visit and were excited to have it again. Unfortunately, the food quality was completely different this time, and the way our concern was handled made the experience even worse. I really hope the restaurant can be more consistent with the food and, more importantly, listen to customers when they point out a genuine issue.

This time, my camera ate before I did, ha! Here is a breakdown of what we ordered on this visit: 1. Steamed Chicken Momo: These were perfectly moist with an adequate, well-seasoned filling. Plus, their signature orange sauce never disappoints! 2. Mixed Fried Rice: This came loaded with eggs, chicken, and veggies. Unlike some places where the veggies feel like an afterthought, these tasted fresh. The portion size was great, flavorful and more than enough for two people. 3. Chicken Sizzler: There is nothing like hearing that loud sizzling sound when food is brought to your table! I initially expected it to come with fries and veggies, so I was pleasantly surprised to see it served on top of a huge bed of noodles. It was incredibly tasty. My only minor critique is that the menu just lists the name of the dish without a description. While I could have asked, it would be helpful if the menu explained what the sizzler entails, especially since their other menu items have descriptions. The Perks & Ambiance: Free Tea: A wonderful touch! They offer free, unlimited aromatic hot tea for dine-in customers, served in cute little espresso cups. Service & Seating: There is plenty of seating available. The service is prompt, though you might occasionally need to wave them over to get their attention, but it's definitely not a dealbreaker. Parking & Access Tip: There is ample parking in the complex, but getting to it can be a bit tricky right now due to the ongoing roadwork on Fremont Blvd. From the street, it almost looks like the restaurants in this plaza might be closed, but don't be fooled; they are absolutely up, running, and well worth the visit!

All that changed with the pandemic. Quite a few Indian restaurants have tried to bring back the buffets but for a good one you still need to travel to the south bay. So it was a surprise to find out about this place serving a daily lunch and a weekend dinner buffet! I called ahead to get an idea of what they serve and it seemed like a good deal for $20 a person. I also liked that they had equal vegetarian and non vegetarian items so husband who is currently not eating meat could have some options. The buffet itself is small but there are enough and more options for any kind of craving. Two vegetarian appetizers. A lentil (dal), and a legume potato dish. A goat curry, a chicken curry and tandoori chicken . Indo Chinese offerings of vegetarian fried rice and noodles and one paneer and one chicken entree. White rice in addition to the fried rice, and naan brought to the table. Two desserts, chai for post dinner. And the piece de resistance- the momos !! Both in veg and chicken. Service was quick and friendly and all the dishes in the buffet tasted fresh because they made them in small batches as needed. The place itself is no frills and simple but seating is plenty. I don't know if we will ever go back to pre pandemic buffet levels, but for now we have this decent Indian buffet right here in Hayward.
