The meatball sandwich was absolutely fantastic, soft, well seasoned meatballs on house-made bread. No complaints from me. The tomato soup was also delicious, fresh and flavorful. My friend got the pesto grilled cheese and tomato soup and said hers was amazing too. A smidge pricey, however, with current inflation, it's pretty equal with any other Spokane restaurant. SERVICE: the staff was friendly and attentive. AMBIANCE: casual dining environment. I had a tough decision between the turkey pesto sandwich, the pesto grilled cheese or the meatball burrata and basil sandwich. I chose the meatball , burrata and basil sandwich. I believe they make their bread in house and same with their meatballs. The meatballs were so soft and tender. Paired with the burrata, yum. Burrata is just always a must have if it's on the menu. It gets a little messy and the meatballs were too big to fit the whole sandwich in my mouth. But nothing is wrong with too big. The tomato basil soup accompanied with it was delicious. I'm not a big fan of pickles and mustard, but their pork belly Cuban was phenomenal. The pairing of pork belly,combined with mustard and the pickles, it almost seems like they make the pickles in house too, makes me crave one right now. The clam chowder was very delicious too. So much that we should have bought a bowl and not a cup. The steelhead trout chowder had a great ratio of trout to chowder and they smoke they're own steelhead trout. I love the little crackers that were sprinkled on top, they had really good seasonings on them that I could just snack on those by themselves. Such a great chowder and sandwich place , and I can't wait to come back and try more next time. I only wish they were open longer than 6, because I had to rush down from the hill to make it there before they closed. The food is well worth it. Second time o got the banh mi and tater tots with the chicken pot pie chowder. The owner has won many awards locally before recently opening his own spot. I ordered from Uber and here are my thoughts Sauces requested were wrong. We ordered 2 tartars and 1 fry sauce and got 3 honey mustard) Tots were soggy. Cheese was not melted on grilled cheese sandwich there was also a thick layer of mayo inside. Meatballs are not seasoned on meatball sub and there was no basil. Cheesesteak was about as good as bruchis. ($12 vs $20) Fries were the only thing that were seasoned and they were burnt and dry. The chowder - unseasoned potatoes, flabby bacon and hardly any clams in my order. It was also more like a creamy broth VS a chowder. (Rhode island clam chowder) Not what we were expecting, Wont visit or order again but some people might love it. Edit looks like the chef? Staff? Reached out to me, but not to ask how to change my review or what my suggestions were or apologize for the poor experience. To call me names. Chowderhead has become a Spokane staple ever since it opened up. Currently the bahn mi reigns supreme in my books, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. A friend of mine led us here for lunch yesterday. What a delight!!!! Tyler (who was single-handedly waiting, bussing, and tabbing customers out!) was so friendly and welcoming, answered questions, and never left us wanting or needing to ask for anything at all! The menu is an array of delicious sounding items making it hard to choose! My friend had the tikka masala fries, and I had the chicken parm. The parm was uniquely served on a thick slab of delicious sourdough rather than pasta. And the fries were topped with fresh pea shoots! We loved them both! And the clam chowder was fantastic! Customer beware. Whatever you do, do not ask for salt and pepper! I went there with my young son to have a relaxing mom and son lunch date. The restaurant wasn't full, but there was quite a few people. None of the customers look to be irritated or upset, but there was some guy helping the server deliver food in a panic. When he delivered our food, I asked for salt and pepper, and he gave me the nastiest look I've ever been given by someone. Before he delivered the salt and pepper to my table, he stopped at another table and crucified me with the old couple sitting there... right in front of my face. I don't care who you are. Everybody has a different taste buds. Nobody should be crucified for asking for salt and pepper to go with their food AT A RESTAURANT. I definitely won't be going back. However, the food blew me away with the amount of flavor and the attention to quality. Everything from their sauces to the baguettes are made in house. I tried the meatball sub and cheesesteak with the side of their soup of the day - Elote chowder. The meatball sub was so delicious I had to consciously pause myself to take a breath between bites. My wandering eye also caught their gigantic salads as they walked past and I'll be back ASAP to try those.
