    Casey's Club (toasted)
    Jennifer B.

I love veggies on my sandwiches, burgers, salads, pasta, just about everything. So I went with their California Sunshine Club. It comes on a French roll and is layered with turkey, ham, crispy bacon, cheddar, provolone, real sliced avocado, tomatoes, and lettuce. It was piled nice and high and the bread was soft. I didn't get the roll toasted, but that is always an option. After asking the person taking our order what their favorite sandwich was, my brother ordered their Casey's Club, toasted. The way the person at the counter suggested. The Casey's Club has the same meats as their Sunshine Club, but none of the veggies. If you're ever in the Valley for lunch (NW corner of Sprague and Evergreen), definitely give them a try and don't forget to have some of their free popcorn -- at Casey's Place.

I have said before that the sandwich is nature's most perfect food. I have also said the best kind of food is where it can only be had one place on earth. Casey's is a locally owned, one location sandwich shop. Sweet! Prices are about on par with Subway. You don't get to watch them concoct your masterpiece though. Maybe I am spoiled from Subway doing that (other places too). Got my sandwich, it had been microwaved...and the bread was chewy as a result. It was suppposed to be an italian thing, but what little pepperoni was there was dominated by super salty ham. I actually could not finish the sandwich. The only reason for using ham that salty is for making soup. The staff was really friendly, but I was really unhappy with the sandwich I got. I may try something one more time from this place, maybe not. If you do go here, don't get anything with ham.

I always seem to miss the hours for this place. Not today. I had the club. The lunch was pretty filling and the only drawback was the bread on the sandwich. As I ate towards the end the sandwich seem to fall apart. Happened with both halves. The meat quality was pretty good and although they don't make their own soup it was pretty good. Going to eat here again next time I am in Spokane.

    10th sandwich free card.

I ordered the Fig Sandwich and the Fancy Pants Sando because I could not decide between the two as they both sounded very unique in different ways. I called the place up and arranged to come pick the food up. The person on the phone was very thoughtful in keeping in mind at what time I would arrive so he could arrange for the sandwich to be toasted at the right time. I appreciate small details like that. When I arrived, I noticed there were several tables and a bar where you can essentially get brews and food. I noticed they had several beers on tap which I was very curious about, but unfortunately did not have time to sit down and eat at this establishment. The person at the bar was extremely friendly and made me feel very welcome. The two sandwiches came up to $40ish. I brought the sandwiches home and first tried a few bites of the Fancy Pants Sando. I will have to say it was the better of the two sandwiches. I appreciated the goat cheese in the sandwich and the mix of different ingredients, but it was not something I would consider to be a great sandwich, at least not for me. Others might find it pleasant, but I did not care for it much. The fig sandwich was the one I was more excited about and expected some sweetness to be cut down by the bacon. I don't think it was a perfect balance between the two, and I got a tad much of the overwhelming sweetness of the figs in this sandwich. Again, others might enjoy it, but I didn't care for it. I really wanted to give this place a great review, but unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. The beer looks fun though and might be a good reason to give this place a try, and you may enjoy their sandwiches and many people have. For me, that's a no-go.

We arrived about a half hour after they opened and I felt they were already getting kinda busy. Took a look at the menu and The Deadliest Catch immediately caught my eye and I went with that and added provolone cheese for an extra .75 cents, which isn't bad at all. My roommate ordered The Barnyard. I told the voisterous jolly gentlemen taking our order that it was our first time here and he suggested we sit out back on the patio. Loved his suggestion! The patio was really nice and spacious and it was a beautiful day to enjoy it. Now the winner of the day, was my tuna sandwich--it was, hands down, THE BEST and MOST FRESHEST albacore I've had in a long time. The quality of their tuna is outstanding compared to many other places I've tried. The veggies were also fresh and crisp--and the cheese I added? Sooo thick and good, not that paper thin kind you sometimes get. Totally worth the .75 cents! Not to mention, the sandwich was huge and on the freshest yummiest sourdough that they bake in-house. My roommate also loved the fresh baked bread and said his sandwich was great. I took a peep and it was loaded with a mountain of turkey. Vibe and ambiance was relaxing outside and all around the service was awesome. I even told the jolly man how good his tuna was--I'm an instant fan and definitely will be back!

On 2 separate trips to Spokane, I've visited the Grain Shed 3 and 4 times over the course of 3 days (yes, if you do the math, I went twice in 1 day, and the restaurant was NOT just around the corner!) And of course moving on to the beer... the primary motivator to come here. I got the Kölsch beer here called Field Trip. I do love a good Kölsch as they are nice, light bodied beers. And they are especially nice in the summertime. Flavor features in this beer is maltiness, breadiness, a bit of hoppiness and a dry finish. Another beer that Steve and I tried was the INWPA which was a Pale Ale. It was also a nice light bodied beer which again hit the spot despite it being a different drinking session. Hangry's is in my pasture--my neck of the woods--and because of that, I want it to win. When Hangry's first opened, I remember lifting my head from the grass and thinking, Now that's something different. A small, independent burger stop with real personality. Not a franchise. Not a copy-and-paste joint. Real food, real effort, real care. Burgers with heft. Flavors with backbone. Portions that didn't insult a full-grown cow like myself. There was pride in the grill and warmth behind the counter. You could feel it. That's why this is hard to chew on. The food is still good. Let me be clear--I'm not saying it's bad. But the spark has dulled. The uniqueness that once set Hangry's apart has lost some of its flavor. The service doesn't carry the same energy it once did. There's a tension in the air now, a kind of hangry mood that doesn't come from hunger, but from strain. It feels less like a place excited to serve, and more like a place trying to survive. And that worries me. Because I don't want Hangry's to become just another Zip's. Another forgettable stop where burgers are churned out without soul. This place was never meant to be that. It was meant to be a friendly, fun, neighborhood joint--high quality, generous portions, bold flavor, and people who cared deeply about what they put on the plate and how they handed it across the counter. I know running a business is hard. Even a cow understands that. Starting strong is one thing; staying sharp is another. Motivation fades. Criticism piles up. The grind wears you down. But the answer isn't to lower the bar--it's to return to the basics. To remember who you were when you started. To cook like you still have something to prove. To serve like every customer matters, because they do. Hangry's doesn't need to reinvent itself. It needs to refocus. Quality first. Pride back in the process. Fresh eyes on the food. Confidence instead of survival mode. If that happens, this place won't just hang on--it will thrive. This bull is rooting for you. You're in my pasture, and I want you here for a long time. Get back to your roots, sharpen your edge, and remind us why we noticed you in the first place. This cow is all in.
