    Casey's Club (toasted)
    Jennifer B.

I love veggies on my sandwiches, burgers, salads, pasta, just about everything. So I went with their California Sunshine Club. It comes on a French roll and is layered with turkey, ham, crispy bacon, cheddar, provolone, real sliced avocado, tomatoes, and lettuce. It was piled nice and high and the bread was soft. I didn't get the roll toasted, but that is always an option. After asking the person taking our order what their favorite sandwich was, my brother ordered their Casey's Club, toasted. The way the person at the counter suggested. The Casey's Club has the same meats as their Sunshine Club, but none of the veggies. If you're ever in the Valley for lunch (NW corner of Sprague and Evergreen), definitely give them a try and don't forget to have some of their free popcorn -- at Casey's Place.

I have said before that the sandwich is nature's most perfect food. I have also said the best kind of food is where it can only be had one place on earth. Casey's is a locally owned, one location sandwich shop. Sweet! Prices are about on par with Subway. You don't get to watch them concoct your masterpiece though. Maybe I am spoiled from Subway doing that (other places too). Got my sandwich, it had been microwaved...and the bread was chewy as a result. It was suppposed to be an italian thing, but what little pepperoni was there was dominated by super salty ham. I actually could not finish the sandwich. The only reason for using ham that salty is for making soup. The staff was really friendly, but I was really unhappy with the sandwich I got. I may try something one more time from this place, maybe not. If you do go here, don't get anything with ham.

I always seem to miss the hours for this place. Not today. I had the club. The lunch was pretty filling and the only drawback was the bread on the sandwich. As I ate towards the end the sandwich seem to fall apart. Happened with both halves. The meat quality was pretty good and although they don't make their own soup it was pretty good. Going to eat here again next time I am in Spokane.

    10th sandwich free card.

Before going back to Idaho from running errands in Spokane, we stopped in for lunch. I wanted to try something different this time and ordered the half-size of the Caruso's Signature Salad and as described by the menu, it consists of: Dried Cranberries, Candied Walnuts, Parmesan, Tomatoes, Onion, Salad Greens, House-Made Croutons, House Vinegar & Oil Blend, Blue Cheese Dressing. I opted for the house of vinegar and oil and really enjoyed their blend. The salad was a delight and the candied walnuts were so scrumptious! The half-size portion was really filling too. My roomie ordered the half-size Meatball sub. I love how they hollow out some sourdough then stuff the meatballs, sauce, and cheese inside and afterwards close off the sub by using the inside bread they hollowed out to plug up and close the sub. Genius idea! My roomie says his meatball sub was really good, super oven hot, and pretty saucy tasty. He's big on cheese and wished it had a little more cheese. Overall, he said he'd get it again. For my birthday dessert freebie, I went with the raspberry cheesecake. It was a pretty big slice and had some height to it, not like the normal standard size you commonly see and it had a decent amount of crust ratio. Ambiance was quiet as it was after the lunch rush and before the dinner crowd. The male worker helping us was super cool and chill and even wished me a belated birthday, which was nice. I think next time, I'll try their pizza.

Since this was my first time it really put me at ease. Water is free with cups supplied! I had a half meatball sub on sourdough bread. I don't know how they did it but the end was wrapped around keeping everything together. The bread was soft, meatballs were good not a ton of spices, and the sauce had a robust tomato flavor. Also wanted something sweet and had the carrot cake. Not overly filled with spice or a strong cream cheese flavor. While I would have preferred more of both it also was not overpowering and still enjoyable.

We went right where it opened, and it was very quiet. I was honestly surprised to see how rundown the restaurant was, specifically the seating. I'm usually pretty understanding if people are short staffed or super busy. But I've had better service at a fast food joint, but I did when I walked in this place. Honestly, if I wasn't so tired at that point-I would've walked out and just gone to the mall and see what other chain restaurant I can eat at. We found a table in the bar area. Up to this point, our experience was not a positive. Enter Sean. Sean was our service in the bar area and he was outstanding. Warm, personable and professional. We ordered some calamari and the Kahlúa pork tacos , along with a couple of cocktails. Both dishes were quite tasty. On 2 separate trips to Spokane, I've visited the Grain Shed 3 and 4 times over the course of 3 days (yes, if you do the math, I went twice in 1 day, and the restaurant was NOT just around the corner!) Everything I've tried is delish, but in case you have to limit yourself, I highly recommend the OG, the beets and feta toast, the bread flight with sauces and cheese, the molasses ginger cookie, and maybe a chocolate croissant. I've heard their bread pudding and pumpkin pie (holiday special) are out of this world! And of course moving on to the beer... the primary motivator to come here. I got the Kölsch beer here called Field Trip. I do love a good Kölsch as they are nice, light bodied beers. And they are especially nice in the summertime. Flavor features in this beer is maltiness, breadiness, a bit of hoppiness and a dry finish. Another beer that Steve and I tried was the INWPA which was a Pale Ale. It was also a nice light bodied beer which again hit the spot despite it being a different drinking session. Flavor characteristics in this beer is citrus, a yeastiness, hoppiness and a biscuity trait. Good beers and sandwiches and we are aiming for a return whenever we are in Spokane again.

I made mine a combo and added the homemade roasted garlic salad and a drink. When our order arrived, my sandwich sure did look tasty and it was! As taken from the menu, John's Veggie Bug consisted of: avocado, cream cheese, pepper jack cheese, olives, cucumbers, sprouts, green onion, lettuce, tomato, pesto mayo and balsamic vinaigrette, on a grilled parmesan panini. This sandwich was super fresh, had great flavors, and I loved that it was on yummy grilled bread that was warm. All the ingredients were plentiful too. I liked how it came with pretzels, something different than chips and the pickle had a good snap to it. You could tell the roasted garlic potato salad was homemade and it wasn't overpowered with garlic. The flavors had a nice balance. My friend's Cuban looked meaty and says he liked it. It was so filling he only ate half and took home the rest for later. The Cuban is worth it's value.
