2 of us had 6:15 dinner reservations for a Sunday evening. There appeared to be a few open tables and almost all the bar was open. Service: Excellent. This is one of two areas that tipped this review to be 4 star and not 3. Our server Julianne is pleasant, attentive and has a nice sense of humor. Dan (the manager?) checked on us several times throughout our meal. Food: 3 star. This makes me sad as I expect when I go to a steak place I want to get the most excellent steak I can get. The Chicago ribeye ($56) was good but not exceptional. I got the truffle fries as an app (if you've seen my other reviews you know I LOVE truffle fries). They were OK. The high bar is Gibbet Hill in MA. Chops City fries were good, but could have tasted fresher. The aioli made them tasty. The Caesar salad was excellent. A nice touch is when the butter is delivered, it is room temp so easily spread on the warm bread. I also liked the olive oil in the base of the the butter dish as it added nice flavor. BAR: Extra credit as my cosmo was served with a lime, which was strategically off the side of the glass in a cocktail spear balanced with a berry on the bottom. Which means the garnish was not touching my drink unless I then wanted to squeeze it in. After seeing a lot of undesirable bar behavior when it comes to garnishes, I really liked this method of garnish delivery. The downside is Titos was an upcharge and for a $16 cosmo it was a little watery and not overly full. The other surprise is I ordered a house Chardonnay, 9 oz. The bill then revealed the price. $28. For a large glass of house wine. Not cool. And the glass was silly large. The globe part was at least 6 inches, I felt like I needed to hold it with 2 hands. I'd recommend a more appropriate glass and a more appropriate price for a house wine. The bar had plexiglass in between each 2 seat sections. We usually like to sit at the bar to meet and chat with others, so this is not the environment for that type of interaction with others. But if you like to sit at the bar and be on your own or with the one person you arrived with, this is a nice set up. ATMOSPHERE: Excellent. The other point which leaned towards the 4 stars. We got a booth, comfy, classy. There are small pillows and as I am petite having back support is a nice touch. The booths are all separated by plexiglass. I'm on the fence if I'd try Chops City again. It's been recommended by several people but our first experience was just OK and for the $200+ bill I'm wondering if there is a better steak place who can make an awesome cosmo elsewhere in Naples. Great place for a romantic celebratory dinner! My salmon was very good, a bit unique with the glaze but great flavor. I didn't know the cauliflower potatoes that came with it. My husband got regular mashed potatoes and they were bland. The wedge salad to start was very good. The dessert was their new one on the menu; some chocolate one and it was below average. While the steaks we had were very good, the appetizers and dessert we had were only fair, although very well presented. Beware , the $12 sides are very small. We ordered the Delmonico steak, the American WAGYU ribeye, corn crème brûlée, mashed potatoes and green beans and it was a feast fit for royalty. This place is phenomenal! When I'm in Naples I love to make a visit here. The service is always outstanding and the food is excellent and it's plated beautifully! The last time I went I came with my daughter, aunt, and uncle. Started off the night with wine and they have a long list of wines to choose from. We all had a caesar salad to start with and its one of my favorites! For my entree I had the Chicken chop with the 3 cheese jalapeno au gratin potatoes. My daughter had the fresh vegetables plate... And that was a delicious beautiful meal! My aunt had the petite filet with the 4 cheese mac and cheese. My uncle had the Chicago cut rib eye with loaded mashed potatoes! Both of their steaks were cooked to perfection! And... Of course, we had to have dessert! My aunt and I shared the Melting carrot cake and the classic chocolate! Valentine's Day dinner tonight at Chops City Grill. I made reservations 2 months ago for my wife and I to enjoy what I thought would be a fine dining experience. We arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation time and noted that there was a piano player playing tunes just inside the entrance, which was nice. The restaurant was packed, probably due to the day and with seasonal guests in town. The restaurant looked very nice inside, but the restaurant isn't really that large and we wondered where they were going to seat newly arriving guests. Our question was answered a few minutes later when we were led to a weird velour booth with cushions at the furthest back end of the restaurant directly next to the kitchen. We had the pleasure of sitting directly next to kitchen staff preparing food, stacking dishes and servers plating food, talking, etc. It was definitely not a fine dining experience that this restaurant portrays itself to be. The manager did happen to stop by our table and I explained to him that his staff should advise guests prior to seating them, that they will be practically be sitting in the kitchen. He did apologize and explained that they were packed due to Valentine's Day. He gave me his card and said he would accommodate us better the next time we dine. After this experience, there won't be a next time. It appears that they over booked themselves and seated customers, who are expecting a fine dining experience, wherever they could squeeze them in. We both ordered filet mignon, medium and medium rare. Both were undercooked and my wife was told by the waiter that her medium rare steak (cold in the center), is supposed to be rare in the center. Chops City Grill may present itself as a fine dining experience on 5th Ave, and for the price it should be, but sadly it's not. read more

Breaking the rating down: 4 stars for food and our waiter 1 star for the horrendous horrible manager Should really be 2.5 stars but I'm feeling generous in the spirit of the holiday season and I rounded up, not down. It's actually kind of funny because after the situation that happened this evening, I came right to Yelp to read the reviews, and the EXACT same treatment was given to another group of people just one day ago. (Updated FYI: this person's review was removed. I'm not sure if by themselves, or if the restaurant fought to have it removed. Either way, the play-by-play was almost virtually identical to my situation, but it also involved some sort of escalated confrontation between this particular manager and a customer.) We had a reservation for 5:30pm, but wound up showing up fairly early since we didn't account for a lot of stores being closed on Christmas Eve. We walked in around 5pm and the place was completely empty. My mother inquired if we could possibly sit at one of the five empty tables that lined the window by the front. The manager said no, that he was unable to give us any of those tables. We wound up sitting outside in the alleyway. It bothered my mother a bit that we had been there early, and we were denied a table at a completely empty restaurant but she had let it go over the course of the night, perhaps others had reserved those tables specifically, so whatever. We ate and when the bill came my father tried to use an American Express gift card that he received as a holiday gift. The card was loaded at $100. The waiter told us that gift cards were not allowed, but he went to double check, and he was correct, this place does not accept pre-paid cards. This was the straw that broke the camel's back, and my mother went up to say something to the manager. She explained how she was disappointed that they weren't able to give us a table by the window, and that it was crazy how they wouldn't accept our form of payment. The manager said something along the lines of, "well you seemed pretty happy with your table outside." To which my mother responded, "well of course the night isn't going to be ruined because of that, but it was disappointing." She then brought up the gift card, and apparently he was like a deer in headlights and had nothing to say in regards to reasoning on not accepting the card. I wound up looking it up and it's basically up to the restaurant whether they will accept the card, however we used one last night at Campiello's on 3rd street, and there was no problem whatsoever. It was at this point where the manager then got nasty, got in my mother's face and said a condescending, "Merry Christmas!!" Um, what? Learn how to communicate with your patrons. Food was pretty much OK. Definitely not the best steak I've ever had, these weren't top cuts. I got a 7 Oz filet ordered it medium well, came medium rare. The watermelon salad was barely passable. It's absolutely not watermelon season at all, but figured if it was on the menu they knew what they were doing. Nope. Watermelon was very pale, not sweet, and rock hard. This absolutely should not be on the menu if the main ingredient is out of season. Pork chop was good, my father loved it. Loaded mashed was good, and black truffle bernaise sauce was a perfect steak addition. The trio of creme brulee was also a good choice. All in all, we don't live here, so we're obviously not going back, but a bad experience with front end managers can really put people off from ever returning, regardless of the food. read more

My family and I came here for a birthday dinner. Although the restaurant is on the more expensive side of restaurants in Naples, I do think it is worth the expense. The food was delicious (highly recommend the clam chowder, spring rolls, Australian waygu beef, the corn brulèe, and the mashed potatos). The featured cocktails are definitely on the more experimental side (think: candied bacon and spicy cocktails) but they do have the capability to make anything classic you would like. The only draw back I would note is that you can tell they have relaxed their clothing policy. Although the decor is more formal, many people showed up in shorts and casual attire. read more

If you know good food this is not the place to come. We came with 3 adults and two small children who fine dine regularly. The front experience was very pleasant probably the best part! Very friendly and welcoming. Once sat we ordered a dirty martini(great), glass of white wine(great), kids got chocolate milk(great) and then the bacon old fashion(very mediocre, small quarter sized chip of candied bacon)..we ordered the crab cakes(way over sauced, was super disappointed with the lobster etc was looking for great seafood flavor but all you tasted was sweet over powering sauce), we also ordered the wedge (nice presentation but all we ate was chunks of blue cheese). Main dishes. We ordered the steak cheeseburger $28 hockey puck! Terrible! That was for the kids. They eat medium rare and that was well over done. The fries were great, hot, light and crispy. And when asked they could not split a burger for our two kids, with no room on a table to split of burger with all of our entrees out sat at a 4 person table. Side note they only serve chicken fingers for kids otherwise pick from the menu. Kind of ridiculous. New York strip medium rare, no flavor at all, served with the smothered in blue which was very lack luster to say the least and for $12. Chicago cut ribeye rare, a ton of intermuscular tissue and silver skin running through that made it nearly impossible to cut, served with a peppercorn sauce that was not enhancing to the steak. The special lamb shank that was recommended by the server saying it was the best with no real description so we thought ok let's order that and give it a try, it was smothered in some kind of gravy or reduction sweet sauce and served with parsnip and mashed potatoes way over sauced and lame. The steaks were cold , salty and over cooked . The butter on my baked potato was so cold it would not even melt . Chops City Grill was an enjoyable dining experience. The service was friendly, expedient, and knowledgeable. I didn't expect to come here and get great "value". I knew that dining at an upscale steakhouse on Fifth Avenue in Npales, Fl was going to demand a nice size tab. That said, I feel as though there were a few aspects of the dinner that could be improved upon. Before I get into the weeds though, here are my main takeaways. 1. You are going to overpay simply bc of location, but you know this going into it, so enjoy the decor and how professional the staff is. 2. The sides, Short Rib entree, and crab cake appetizer were EXTREMELY good! 3. The filet was a good cut but the chef that cooked mine was too aggressive, I ordered medium rare and it came out medium well. This is the main reason they are getting a 3 star and not 4. 4. More space between tables would have been nice, not because of pandemic, rather, we felt like sardines. 5. I don't mind overpaying for food when I know why I am overpaying (location/ambiance), but if you are going to charge me nearly $20 for a Woodford Reserve, at least have a solid pour. So, if you're still interested to read more...here are my small critiques/compliments. - The table for two we sat at was small and cramped but the plates and wine glasses were very large. We had to have the candle removed from the table just to fit two plates and the bread plate on our table. -I've never had Corn Creme Brulee...it was out of this world good. If you like corn, you simply have to order this. -My wife ordered the short rib entree and it was delicious. A really nice mixture of flavors and the tenderness of the meat was outstanding. - As noted above, I really felt like I was getting the short end of the stick on the drink pours. I know rent is expensive and there's a large over head expense at a restaurant of this caliber, but the one thing that isn't costing you an arm and a leg as a restaurateur is your booze. Let's throw away the jiggers and help the liquor reps sell more bottles... - Maraschino Cherries are in no way shape or form comparable to a Luxardo Cherries. I was shocked to have my first cocktail come out with a Maraschino Cherry hanging on a toothpick outside of my glass and dripping bright red cherry juice all over the table cloth. I guess it's a nice touch that the garnish is served on the side of the glass? I've had quite a few Manhattans at very nice places and this is the firs time I recall the bartender making an effort to give me the choice on whether or not I wanted to include the cherry in my drink. But whatever, if that's their thing, that's completely fine, I don't mind dumping the cherry in my drink. What I was shocked by though was the fact that they stock Luxardo Cherries, and when you order a Manhattan, they choose a Maraschino as the default...MADNESS!! My server saved the day on cocktail #2, but good heavens, Maracshino over Luxardo?!?!? - If you're going to charge $65 for a 10 oz filet, the kitchen should know how to cook it medium rare (I was comped a free $14 desert to make up for this, don't feel quid pro quo worked in my favor). - I thought the salted perfectly spreadable room temperature butter in a bed of fresh and delicious oil was a nice touch to get the meal started. My two guests had something similar. To say this was the best meal I have ever had, well, I'm saying that. If you're well-heeled ($$$) or having your last meal. You won't be disappointed. Everything I had was exceptional. Our waiter was Tyler H. He added to this experience. Getting back to the restaurant opening with new staff. I'm a FEMA housing contractor. I was assigned to inspect an address the owner of this restaurant owns. He requested the two duplexes he holds be allocated for housing displaced people. After we talked a bit, I asked him if he knew a few places I might go for dinner. He mentioned the few he has an interest in, but only one was currently open because of the hurricane. I asked how hard it might be to reopen with new staff. Who can stay unemployed for the time it might take to reopen a restaurant? He told me employees never missed a paycheck. He was covering their loss until he could reopen. This guy serves excellent food in a great atmosphere. He cares about the people in this town who have suffered loss. He is a great human being.
