Respect to the beauty of the So Cal neighborhood Mexican restaurant. I'm in the area a lot, but usually for Chinese / Vietnamese food. This time, it was a little after rush hour and I had 25 minutes to kill before an event down the block. I also had a mean hunger. It was hot, the event was a performance in a space without AC, and the idea of being hungry and hot was sort of daunting. So Chonitos it was. I asked the host if the kitchen moves quickly, because I needed to be somwhere. He said 'no problem' and seated me. Now I need to acknowledge that my request could be interpreted as annoying. I mean, me being short on time is not the restaurant's issue. But Chonitos was open to the task at hand. The space has a dark sports bar vibe. Plenty of folks enjoying their Thursday evening, drinking, eating and watching the screens. My server was Saul. He had a drink in my hand in less than three minutes and took my order the moment I was ready. Saul was very cool about getting me fed quickly. The food came out in less than 8 minutes, a taco enchilada combo. Just what I needed, homemade for sure, and both satisfying and comforting. A little corn cake rounded out the experience. I wolfed it down, thanked Saul for being supportive, then paid the check, and arrived early at my next stop. Chonitos is dope. Recommended. brunch buffet Not sure why the front door is the exit so you gotta go through a side door. Walk in and grab food and pay after. Food is decent. Enchiladas, chicken, eggs, etc. The selection is limited, like 20 different items. but definitely worth trying once. I asked for Horchata Drink and a staff handed it to me. It was filled to the brim with ice. It wouldn't have been a problem but I wasn't sure how to get a refill... they came to pick up my plate but not refill my drink. Came to watch the ufc fight and it wasn't on but when I asked, they immediately changed the tv for me and they were so sweet. Food was good and there was a tiny mistake and our Server Georgina made everything right. She was sooo attentive and just such a sweetheart and my family was so delighted to have her. She took such great care of us and I'm grateful because it's been a while since we've had great service. On a side note: they had like a little Banda or mariachi or dj I'm not too sure so if you're feeling like a little dancing machine, the patio is your place to be. read more

Today's buffet lacked! Trays were empty, starting w/the chicken fajitas, spinach enchilada, potatoes, Chile colorado, asada, rice I had to scrape! The Chile colorado was not the same in consistency from prior times I've been there. Also, menudo was not available. I did see chicken pozole( no hominy) available + a different item (sopes) but already prepared looked messy! What really made our day here , was the young woman server, so attentive & on top of everything, making sure we were doing alright. 10/10 I tried the spinach enchiladas 7/10 Salad 4/10 wilted salad no bueno Rice is good Chicken fajitas 7/10 Chile colorado 5/10 not he same today Asada adobada 6/10 Cucumber gets soggy after a while mixed in lime juice w/the cantaloupe & oranges. The food is good but on a 80 dollar bill for two beers and two plates of food- I did not expect to pay almost 4 dollars for sour cream that they forgot to put on the burrito. When ordering it photos show it comes with sour cream but was still charged extra for it because I requested it be on the side and also when they brought the chips the basket wasn't even half way full. It was also only 2pm lunch buffet closes at 3 but it looked like they weren't refilling it. I have been there a handful of times and Maybe it was just a bad day but I didn't like the extra charge on the bill. read more

Chonitos Mexican Restaurant is one of the best places for authentic Mexican food in town. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the service is consistently friendly and attentive, and every dish is full of fresh, authentic flavor. I especially love that the guacamole is prepared tableside--it's always fresh and delicious. Their micheladas are also some of the best I've had. We were there for Mother's Day and it wasn't crazy busy we were seated at the time of our reservation our waitress was very nice and friendly. The food was... Ok. Not impressed. I really didn't like the music that was played which was all reggaeton to me it wasn't really what anyone wanted/expected to listen to since most of the people who were there were middle aged/older people so maybe the ambience could of been a bit more appropriate for the aged folks who were there. read more

Stopped in for lunch while working in the area and opted for the buffet, which was the best value. The food and service were decent. Not great but it got the job done. The space has a nice modern cocina feel, though the music was a bit loud for a lunch crowd. Overall, a solid stop if you're nearby, but not necessarily a spot I'd go out of my way for. read more

Well right off the bat I came to try Chonito's all you can eat breakfast brunch I've been wanting to try and it didn't disappoint! The service was real good all the waiters including the Manager/Owner was super kind and welcoming. I thought I had the stomach to really eat but 1 1/2 plates of food is all my stomach allowed me lol I loved their Chile verde de puerco it's so flavorful and tender like butter not rough at all, I tried their Chile Colorado as well but it can use a bit of seasoning but still the meat was tender soft and juicy texture overall was perfect on all the meats! It's really clean inside and I love that they played some chente and other og Mexican folk music. Chonitos has turned divey and dirty over the years. I remember coming here back when they first opened and the experience was definitely different compared to today. The food experience is alright and plenty of drunken afternoons were had here! I feel the quality has changed, and drinks are getting pricier. Never tried the lunch buffet, but have heard it's not too bad. The service is a bit slow here, waiters kind of disappear in and out. The overall layout of the restaurant is a bit odd as well. I think they need a bit of modern renovations to bring the place up to date. Overall experience was alright. I think I would return to try the lunch buffet. A modern update and step up the service a bit would make the experience better next time. read more

We had a blast! We celebrated my moms 83 birthday with Sunday brunch at Chonitos. It was 37 of us. Vanessa took out reservation and everything went smoothly. Our server Trinidad was AMAZING! Attentive, friendly, quick service. Let's talk about the food, great flavors my favorites chile colorado & pozole. Wide selection of Mexican dishes which included seafood. Everyone enjoyed the food and went for seconds and even thirds. One of the best cafe de ollas I've had. Omelette station was awesome. One suggestion more breakfast foods like bacon, sausage, pancakes maybe waffles, french toast either one of those griddle items would have been a nice addition. Stopped by on a weekend for lunch. Parking can be a little hard but there is a lot and residential parking. Make sure to read the street signs. Portions were generous and both the food and drink menu have a huge selection. Our server was really sweet and checked on us regularly to see how we were doing. Pretty disgusting. Tried for the first time. take out. It was so incredibly salty that it was almost inedible. Only could get through half of it. At first I thought it was just salty beans, but everything was salty and greasy. I just wanted comfort food but this was not enjoyable at all. I ordered the enchilada style beef burrito with rice and beans. Bad choice. Maybe other things are better but I won't be coming back to find out. our service was great. We went for the brunch buffet on a Sunday. We only had to wait 30 min. We didn't know till we were almost done eating that sodas and aguas fresca were part of the buffet too. The horchata was amazing. we wish we knew they were part of the buffet in the beginning. The food is amazing, The only problem I had was when I wanted an omelet the chef was not there. I want to like this place so much more than I do . It's very close to home. Food is great but every time I come and order a drink it's just off. First time I got a margarita in a warm glass that must've just came out of a dish washer or something. Then another time I got Margarita in a tumbler.
