    Stand

Got pupusas from here today. Maybe that was my first mistake , but mind you, the owner is the same guy that owns several pupusa stands in El Sereno. The stand he has near "Big Saver" is really good, really yummy pupusas. I go there when I can't go to "Las Cazuelas" on Figueroa street. I would assume that a restaurant would be even better than a stand on the street, but this is not the case at all... My pupusas here are so thin. It was all dough. The curtido was meh, and the salsa was inedible. It tasted expired it had that nasty awful bloated taste to it. Wouldn't recommend. Staff is very friendly, that's the one star I'm giving. Here is the comparison between both pupusas. Stand vs restaurant and you tell me if you can guess which is which.

I got the tamale breakfast with scrambled eggs ($15). Huge portions. Tamales were fluffy and flavorful. Eggs were also light and fluffy. The senora taking orders is warm and attentive. Just a nice vibe all around. Plenty of street parking right outside. They take credit cards.

They need to change their name to Tamale Boy!!!! For starters the tamales are so small now. Not like they were before. AND they charge $45.00 a dozen now. That's just wrong. If they were the size they used to be, they'd be worth 45 bucks! And they charge a different price per dozen if you pay cash. What's that about? As for the pork tamale I had, it was mostly masa, although the pork had a good flavor, the meat had a canned meat texture. If you've ever had canned roast beef, that's the texture it had. AND... they used to saucy & sloppy. Now they're wrapped in paper, all 2x5 inches, hehehehe, no sauce all over it like before. I will not be getting tamales from Tamale Boy again. Size matters in this instance. And for $45.00 for these lil things! No thank ya. See attached pictures to see for yourself....

I been driving thru this street for a long time and I seen it but it was always closed Finally I saw it open and I took the chance t try the tamales that many Sereneans talk about I got one of each tamales and a menudo Unfortunately tamales weren't one of my favorites they have no meat, the only one that might save the day would be the cheese one, the sweet tamal was the worst of them all, and I love sweet tamales but this one was lacking flavor and of course it didn't have any pineapple flavor or chunks Service is whatever, the cashier is young and careless The ambience is family oriented Don't trust my review go try it for yourself

Service was great and the food was too.. I tried the chilaquiles and a couple of tamales.

Craving an authentic Mexican breakfast? The tamale man never disappoints us! ...great prices and large portions! Provecho!

We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and everything was presented really well. The enchiladas were flavorful, the grilled fish was cooked perfectly, and the tortillas with the short rib were a table favorite. Portions were great for sharing, and the sauces really tied everything together. Service was friendly and our server checked in on us throughout the night without making us feel rushed. It did get a little busy, so there were a few waits between courses, but nothing that took away from the experience. Overall Great atmosphere, solid food, and a fun place for birthdays or date nights. I'd definitely come back!!

Our waiter then told us we needed a specific Dine LA reservation, something that was never mentioned when I called or when I made the reservation. I've been to plenty of Dine LA restaurants and have never experienced this. The service wasn't necessarily bad, but it was very dismissive. No apology, no real explanation--they basically just brushed it off. Thankfully, the food saved the night! The Michelada oysters were TO DIE FOR--seriously one of the best oyster flavors I've ever had. We also had the short rib plate, which was delicious. The outdoor atmosphere and decor are really cute too. I would come back, but ONLY for those oysters--definitely not for the service.

Sonoratown was our first stop as it was highly recommended by my boyfriend's brother, and it did not disappoint. It immediately earned a spot in our top five favorite taco spots for carne asada in all of Southern California! The location that we went to is located in between Elysium DTLA and Perfumeria Starlux on E 8th St in downtown LA. There is only paid(?) street parking around the area that could be extremely difficult to find during work days. Because we couldn't snag a spot, my friends and I opted for takeout and didn't end up eating until about 30 minutes later. Despite the travel time, the tacos were still absolutely incredible--I can only imagine how spectacular it tastes fresh! My friends and I ordered the carne asada tacos, and my boyfriend opted for the cabeza. Before I even took a full bite, I tasted a piece of the loose carne asada and was blown away; it was perfectly cooked with a wonderful tenderness and deep smokiness. The use of a single, thin, handmade flour tortilla--rather than the standard double corn--was a total game-changer and exactly how I preferred my tacos. The salsas were equally impressive, offering fantastic flavor and a great kick. My boyfriend's cabeza taco was just as standout, featuring super-tender meat with a rich, savory profile. Wowowow! Between the exceptional meat quality, bold flavors, and great value, this is easily one of the best taco spots I've visited. It's a huge bummer that they don't have a location down in San Diego, but we will definitely be back!

Cute building with lovely patio seating: from the trailing hanging pothos plants, Spanish tiles, to relaxing latin-house music the vibes were welcoming. I'm not much of a drinker though, when asked if I wanted to make my pina colada a "float" I thought incorrectly about ice cream. It was graciously explained that you take an additional shot of rum and float it on top of the drink or mix in to make it extra boozy. The pina colada is top notch they hollow out a real pineapple to make the drink and it's the size of your face! The watermelon cocktail was delicious and there is also a mezcal option. Tasted like if a watermelon aqua Fresca was combined with a margarita, there is a hint of salt that brings out the fruit sweetness. We special ordered a bunch of different proteins and vegetables at half portions to make a feast: Aguachile- Light refreshing starter, kanpachi perfectly marinated and great for the summer heat. Crispy potato- Phenomenally done fingerling potatoes. Whipped beans- Carnitas on top made this dish. Fried chicken tacos- Found the chicken slightly on the dry side, if there was a creamy/thicker sauce would be even better... nothing wrong with flavor, good mild heat. I did enjoy the fresh shredded cabbage and carrots, reminded me of bahn mi. Empanadas- Loved the acidity of the sauce that cut through the fattiness of the ground meat. Light shell. Crispy Squash flower- Delicate crunch, like an angelic version of a jalapeno popper. Lamb chops- Definition of "treat-yourself" luxurious meat lollipops. Celery salad- Simple dish but the lemon flavor and tartness really helped break up the richness of other dishes. Churros- Light crunch and small, petite dessert. The thin caramel sauce is addicting. Fine dining, for those special occasions or if you just want to splurge for a morale boost highly recommend this restaurant. Valet parking or park across the street or around the corner in a lot for $5-10.
