Tried this stall when my go to place was closed. It was a Wednesday night and there wasn't a whole lot of business. Positives: Free egg drop and hot and sour soup (also, it's more than water it's actually pretty good soup). Free tea and free rice. All of these things are standard in a more traditional place like this one. Good value proposition. Got the chili seafood hot pot (medium) and it was still pretty spicy. It was fine, but nothing to write your Grandma about. We also got the basil chicken. This was a complete disappointment. It had very few pieces of chicken and a ton off filler veggies (onion and celery). Nothing makes me more peeved at an Asian restaurant than a dish that is 70% filler veggies. Oh my what a gem this place is. If you like eating legit culturally immersed eats you have to try this place a few times.

As a Chinese American born and raised in the south, finding authentic Chinese places is an experimental game of Easter egg hunting. But truly, Chong Qing is where my family and I always go when we visit Atlanta. You know how it's authentic and special: great Sichuanese food items that no one offers. Atlanta's Chinatown is somewhat isolated and has other food stands that come and go, but this business has endured the review of the Chinese community and withstood the test of time. Sichuan is a province in China known for their spicy cuisine that had a unique numbing effect, called "mala." They're known for their hot pots (a medley of spicy oil marinaded vegetables and meats) and unique Sichuan dishes such as cold noodles and dan dan noodles. Don't let the humble food court style fool you. The owner and staff are very attentive to your needs and are awesome. Great prices for family and friend sharing! read more

Stopped here while in Chinatown food court - only thing I ordered was the Mongolian Lamb, and apparently they are more known for their hot pot and beef rice noodle, but it was pretty good. I give it four stars because the onion to meat ratio was a little high and the taste was great, but not life changing - maybe a little on the sweet side. That being said, the portion was big, a nice amount of rice was included and the cook was pretty friendly. read more

If you're restless for some new, delicious Chinese food in the ATL burbs/Chinatown region, then come here, and you can be the Chong and the restless. As for Simba, I guess when he first became king, he was a Chong King. As for the hot pot, I'm not into pot, regardless of the temperature. The Lamb Cumin they serve here is unlike other Lamb Cumin dish I've had - but it's nevertheless absolutely delicious, and comes with yummy thick chewy homemade flat noodles, and lots of great spices and veggies mixed in with the tender flavorful seasoned lamb. It's also extremely affordable and massive and will last you for 2 meals, and is great for sharing between two hungry people. Or four not very hungry people. Or six people with tiny appetites. Or 8 people who just want 4 bites each. Or 16 people who want 2 bites each. Or 32 people who want 1 bite each. Or 64 people who only want half a bite. Or 128 people who wish only to have a quarter bite. Or 256 people who need only to procure a quarter bite. Or 512 people that can handle just an eighth of a bite. Or 1024 people that are in the mood only for a 16th of a bite. Or 2048 people that want just one 32nd of a bite. Or 4096 people that... OK you get the idea. It's inside the Chinatown Food Court which is unequivocally the best destination for food in Chinatown Atlanta, because you have three or four different amazing restaurants (stands, really), all of them cheap, all of them good value, all of them delicious, and all of them within 10 seconds of each other - so you can try a bit of everything. So, the Lamb Cumin. Get it. This was actually one of the best meals I've had in Atlanta and my favourite item inside this excellent food court - so make sure you come here and give it a try. This review update for Chong Qing Hot Pot is for one dish and one dish only: the Chong Qing chicken. This is a great Sichuan dish that is also known as Shan City chicken at Tasty China and Peter Chang's. It consists of several chopped and deep-fried boneless chunks of chicken stir-fried and tossed with a plethora of red Sichuan chili peppers. Two people ordered this dish at the UYE (http://www.yelp.com/events/atlanta-buford-highway-uye-chinatown-food-court) a few days ago. It's a pretty intense dish. Very flavorful not only because of the peppers, but also because of the salt and other seasonings that are used to prepare this dish. Because of all the sodium and oil, it's not a healthy dish, but boy does it taste good. It's best that this dish is shared. It's not as spicy as it looks unless you eat the peppers themselves (which I like to do, but only a few). Another deceiving thing about all the peppers is there is not as much meat on the plate as you think. The pieces are small and they are concealed by the peppers. Chong Qing Hot Pot seems to be the current king of the Atlanta Chinatown food court. The owner is certainly dedicated. read more

You know when you look at a food picture and you salivate just from the THOUGHT of how good it will be. That's how I felt after reading these reviews. Chong Qing is located in a food court in a small Asian shopping plaza that has been there for as long as I can remember. With that said, parking can be a challenge since it is quite cramped and Asians can't drive or park so be careful. This isn't racism. This is merely an observation. Anyways, this is a very low key place. You order at the cashier area. The owner who is very informative will bring out your meal to your table. Get as much white rice or hot and sour or egg drop soup as you want. Although, I would skip the soups. It's essentially colored water. We ordered the most popular dishes here. Chong Qing aka Spicy Chicken: Reminded me a lot of the Taiwanese fried chicken nuggets. Too much sodium and not enough other seasoning for me. There was way more peppers than actual chicken pieces. Spicy Seafood Hot Pot: Very good although a little bit oily. The flaky big pieces of fish fillet were the best part. I recall squid and some pieces of shrimp but mostly glass noodles and cabbage. Not much else in terms of seafood. Good soup base. Dan Dan Noodles: LOVE the soy sauce. The other peanut sauce at the bottom of the bowl was too creamy for my taste and I thought the aftertaste was weird so we were glad we didn't stir up our bowl and mixed everything without trying. As excited as I was to try this place, I wouldn't make a special trip here. If I was in the area, I might consider trying another hot pot here. read more

Tons of fun when it's open and especially Chinese New Year! It's not a fancy place at all. It can be challenging to find a table. Inside can be warmer in the summer time and colder in the winter. People usually come and go. So expect a good court experience. 2) Parking is just fine except for any special occasion. Then it's difficult. 3) Leon, the owner, has been here through the tough times and he has done well at adapting through the rules. 4) I'm hooked with a few of their dishes. When you find perfection you don't venture out. Their chili chicken is mouth drooling. Dry fish hot pot!! Oh my gosh it's incredible. My mouth is watering and I'm not hungry lol. Plus their green beans with shredded pork! Yum digity!! 5) They are fast and prices are very reasonable. This was the first time we had hot pot and loved it. The hubs ordered the beef, not spicy, so he could control the heat with the chili oil provided. I had the shrimp hot pot. Chong Qing has the best Chong Qing Chicken I have had outside of CA and NYC. And, it is in a food court of all places. The Dan Dan Noodles are decent, but I mostly come here for the Chong Qing chicken. I have had this dish at other places in Atlanta and none of them even come close to the taste and mouth numbing crispy amazingness. A great cross-over dish for those that are not that adventurous yet, and even works well for take-out. Take-out only if you are not ready for the Chinatown Food Court Experience, that-is. For those people that just eat white meat chicken, you seriously don't know what you are missing! We always order so many dishes that the owner comes out and shakes his head at us. The owner basically runs the entire Atlanta Chinatown Food Court scene with his pushy, yet caring attitude and central location. There is no possible way that we could ever finish all of the food, and we dirty up too many plates then ask for to-go boxes. I know, we are bad people. I had a friend from Chengdu (Sichuan) visiting from out of town, and I wanted to go some place that has good ma-la flavor .. what's ma la? It's that spicy-numbing flavor that Sichuan and Chongqing does so well. We headed to this stall in the Chamblee Chinatown food court. I figured "chongqing" is in its name, so it's gotta be legit. Maybe it was the day we went (Saturday late afternoon), but it was not legit. We ordered a seafood hot pot and a fish dry hot pot, and neither was "ma-la" or spicy! I mean the broth was red, but the flavor and spice was more of a Korean tang or soup flavor. It was still ok, but not what I was expecting and not sure if I'd go back. The employee did warn my friend that it's not as authentic as she might expect from her hometown, and that the dry hot pot has western broccoli in it - a tell-tale sign of an Americanized Chinese dish. We came to this food court today for lunch and were overwhelmed by all of the different stands. We finally settled on this one. I think that the self serve white rice, complimentary egg drop soup, hot and sour soup and tea was the deciding factor. Pretty good food. I got the General Tso Chicken and asked for it to be extra spicy and it wasn't the least bit spicy. Still good though. It was very crispy which I enjoyed. I wish my co-worker liked fish. I was craving the Szechuan Fish in Spicy Chili Oil. Haha my non-Asian co-worker was eyeing the Sweet & Sour Pork and Kung Pao Chicken. I caved and we got the Crispy Chicken w/ Garlic Sauce. They do have self-service complimentary white rice, hot & sour soup (tasted very oily), and egg drop soup (didn't try). Also note - this place is CASH ONLY. CRISPY CHICKEN W/ GARLIC SAUCE - $7.25 As evident by my photo, they did a sorry job covering all the chicken w/ sauce. I wasn't crazy about the chicken either - it wasn't crispy and it was rather bready with sometimes little chicken in sight. No surprise they use dark chicken. The two good things I can say is that the sauce was good, and the portion was generous. STRING BEANS - $6.25 I did love the green beans, very flavorful, served hot, and the portion was huge. We ordered some of my favorite classic Chinese dishes: Mapo Tofu - chili tofu is very spicy and sits perfectly in my tummy with some self serve steamed white rice. Seasoned (魚香) String Beans - I don't know why but this is the simplest but tastiest way to cook and eat green beans, hands down. Southerners don't know what they're doing when they're straight up steaming them.. Seasoned (魚香) meat pieces (肉絲) - I have no idea how to translate this, this is the most literal way to translate the mandarin into English. It's a very popular Szechuan dish and goes well with a steaming bowl of white rice. You can't go wrong with any of the dishes above! read more

First time here and it won't be the last. It's a food court so don't expect linen tablecloths. We did take out. Very large portions. I had the seafood hot pot with egg drop soup. There's enough left for a meal tomorrow. When they say spicy, they mean SPICY. I got mine medium spicy to be safe and it was smokin'. I mean that in a good way. After all, it is Szechuan. My wife had General Tso's chicken. Not really on the menu (and boring) but she is accustomed to Westernized prep, so she loved it. She also added Wonton soup. Again, portion sized to feed the PLA. She gave me a wonton dumpling and it was tastier than most. The only disappointment was not finding fortune cookies in the bag. Chinese food on New Years Eve has been our tradition for years, and we look forward to those corny aphorisms. Seems fitting to close out 2020 without a "fortune". read more

Nestled inside the food court, you can clearly tell that this is the most popular spot there. You look up at the board, and what? It's all Chinese symbols! I cannot understand anything, what do I do? Yes, I could look at the pictures they have on the right side with English labels or the paper menu, but come on, that would be boring. The girl working there recommended that I try spicy chicken and the Schezuan fish. Both looked appetizing, so I got the spicy chicken. This place is super delicious! They give you big portions for the price. We got a bowl of spicy fish and a plate of eggplants. The fish was nicely seasoned and tender and the eggplants were flavorful. Your meal also comes with self serve rice, soup (hot & sour or egg drop), and water/hot tea. It's also a nice thing that the cafeteria hires people to clean up the dishes from each table so there are clean tables as soon as someone leaves. I really appreciate their hard work! read more

Whether it's the group of grumpy men playing Mahjong outside on the hyper-Chinese decorated patio or old ripped television shows that run on the TVs (with very slow moving banner ads on the bottom), I have a love affair with my favorite Atlanta food court. And Chong Qing Hot Pot is no exception, especially since they now take credit card (even if there's a 3.5% surcharge). LOL. Everyone has their Sichuan favorites. Here are my two: *Sichuan Boiled Fish ($8.95): They provide a lot of broth and a hefty helping of cabbage. However, they do skimp out on the fish, unfortunately. But the flavors? They're on point. --Try at least once. I would opt, for a different dish of theirs, next time, though. *Eggplant w/ Garlic Sauce ($6.50): Love their take on it. Super garlicky, solid amount of spice, and so much eggplant I couldn't finish it. They use a bit too much oil, but hey it's cold outside, and I need some more fat on my body. Highly recommend. I've also had two of their non-Sichuan dishes: *Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup ($6.95): Fantastic noodles, flavorful broth, and lots of bok choy and other fixings. This is my favorite Taiwanese beef noodle soup in Atlanta, no doubt. *Steamed Dumplings ($5.95): Probably my least favorite thing there. Filled with pork and veggies, they taste pre-frozen and lack flavor. Don't order them. Like any legit Chinese establishment, the service is blazing fast. This is one of the few places I associate with comfort food. It's cafeteria style eating situated in Doraville's Chinatown square. I always alternate my ordering between the seafood and pork rib hot pot, extra spicy. The hot pot flavor is absolutely delicious thanks in most part to their chili oil. Also, their eggplant is sooo good. I've never had a taste for eggplant until I tried it here. Another perk is the free soup and rice to accompany your dishes as well as the other stands. The food is good, and the portions are very large. The have unlimited rice and soup making this a very economic option. The cumin lamb had to much cumin, which overpowered the lamb and vegetables. The Mongolian beef was very good. The beef was tender, and would definitely get again. With a very extensive menu their is a lot of options to come back and try. And I must say that the food was ten times better then before. The Sweet and Sour pork was the best I've ever had , and had the perfect texture that other Sweet and Sour Pork dishes dream of. The Eggplant had a very unique flavor produced by their special in house chili oil, which makes it a must buy. This place is quickly becoming my go to Chinese spot in Atlanta. My boyfriend and I love coming here, especially when we don't want to cook at home but want something inexpensive and that isn't McDonalds. In fact, the food here will fill you up for less than what you'd spend at McDonalds! The first time we came, we ordered the beef hot pot and we asked for a side of rice and hot and sour soup. The cashier then told us that the rice and soup were free and to help ourselves! Free is a very pleasant word and from that point, I knew our experience there would be a good one. The hot pot came within 7-8 minutes and they brought it right to our table so that we didn't have to set ourselves up for the possibility of a dangerously hot spill. What amazing food court service! The beef hot pot came with tofu, lettuce, onions, zucchini, carrots, noodles and lots of spices and chili peppers. It is spicy yet flavorful and leaves you feeling so warm and satisfied. We came two other times and each time, I wanted to try something different off their extensive menu selection but at the same time, I craved the hotpot so badly! So we ended up compromising by trying their boneless chicken hot pot and the pork rib hot pot. We enjoyed both of them but I found the pork rib one to be my favorite, the meat was so tender and added a delicious pork flavor to the soup. Their hotpots are around $10 and its enough to feed 3-4 people, my boyfriend and I always end up with some to take home. This is inside of Chinatown mall so you go up to the counter, order and then wait for your food to be ready. Then you get your own rice and water to go with it. Don't be fooled by the "Hot Pot" in the restaurant name. Yes, they make hot pots and they're awesome. But they also make great Chinese food in general. The braised fish filet with eggplant is excellent. We would have never ordered it off the menu but we saw another table that had ordered it and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. I also like the egg and tomato dish. Very simple dish but a lot of restaurants still manage to screw it up. As others have described, you get your own rice and your choice of hot and sour or egg drop soup. The soups don't have a lot of ingredients but they"re free. And it's nice to be able to get as much or as little rice as you need. It's a food court restaurant but the quality is better than most full serve restaurants. Like most of the restaurants in this food court, they recently started accepting credit cards...but they tack on 3.5% to the bill. Based on the 5-6 times I've eaten here, I rate it a solid 5 stars. read more

I discovered this gem from a couple of Yelpers in which we met up for lunch. I'm semi vegetarian so I wasn't sure what would be good for my diet. It was suggested for me to try the Dan Dan Noodles. Worst chinese food I have ever tried. Quality was terrible, stale, and tasted old. We ordered around 8pm so I guess they sent us the leftovers of the day!!! Not even the soda was drinkable.
