The menu had a lot of variety, and we ultimately ordered a pork sambab and the seafood tofu soup. - seafood tofu soup (4.5/5) had good consistency in the broth and the tofu was very soft! I wished there was more seafood but maybe it's because I was sharing with others that I didn't feel like I got much. The medium spice is not spicy at all if you like spicy - pork sambab (5/5) had a lot of flavor and the portion was very good! New owner! Lets try it. Here is the breakdown of what I experienced today. We ordered this combo suyook(boiled meet platter), squid stir fry, sagol mandoo ricecake soup, seafood pancake, and the "yook"(beef) sul lung rang. Squid stir fry had a good spicy flavor to it, best out of the things we ordered, but the portion is too small. $24.99 The combo meet platter... it was good, but the saixe it came with was lacking & there was TOO MUCH green onions. It felt like green onion with meat, not meat with green onions. The soups were mediocre at best... even though their saying its their signature dish. Seafood pancake... was super fat not crispy, and sadly lacking seafood ,the main ingredient. Over all food was okay. Portion & price was definitely questionable. I think it needs to be adjusted. BTW, inside the store is super warm. Not in a pleasant way. They needed to turn the AC temp down but the manager/owner came and turned up the AC temp so it never came on. So I asked the lady if they get rid of the fish roe tofu soup. And she told me she's the new owner of Chodang. And they don't serve fish roe anymore. So I was disappointed first. Then I ordered intestine tofu soup and my hubby ordered beef tofu soup. I was worried a bit if everything would taste different since the new ownership. Bathroom was okay, could've been nicer regarding upkeep and decor, was a little dirty. I had dinner here with my brothers.. I believe they have a new manager here. I used to come here once or twice a week back then because Chodang was the only kbbq that was opened in Chandler and there weren't many kbbq opened in Arizona at the time.. The menu looks a bit different. It's a little pricier on the side but the food was great.. Their galbi is one of the best I've ever had. It has that good kbbq marination and you can definitely taste the delicious flavor.. The rib soup is great as well. I wanted to wash out all the greasy-ness from the galbi so the soup was perfect with it.. Oh and they have purple rice now! I love purple rice. My fave ! Service was good .. It was a busy night here when we came and the server did well checking on us from time to time. The new manager also checked on our table to make sure our food was good and if we're doing okay.. I'm sad to say this place has gone downhill since new ownership - they are very cheap now in every way. My family and I used to go here for 10+ years but I'm saddened to see the decrease in quantity, quality, and variety of food with an increase in price. Ordered a bibimbap to go for $17 and I was shocked not only at the size (only half filled) but also at the actual quality of the food. The container is about the size of an iPhone (see photo). No utensils or napkins were provided. Bibimbap is supposed to have meat and a variety of vegetables - this only had spinach, radish, and 2x serving of bean sprouts. Where are the carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, or burdock root? Not expecting all of these, just SOMETHING. Important to note that this is the same free complimentary bean sprouts that I would have received if I ate in person. The complimentary side dishes when you order to go are the same as when you eat in person minus the bean sprouts. So basically, for $17 you can get a half-filled "bibimbap" of meat, spinach, and radish. Please go get more authentic Korean food for better price and quantity up in Mesa - it's like a 15 minute drive north. You will also get a side of hot bone broth soup most likely - the proper and authentic way to eat bibimbap. I ordered the clam tofu soup with egg (mild). It comes with rice. Side dishes were bean sprouts, kimchi, spicy thin cut cucumbers, cubed potatoes. Excellent portion for lunch. I recommend finishing the soup before the side dishes because the kimchi spiciness is amplified due to how hot the soup is. The soup is in a clay pot and will stay hot for 30 minutes. Bathrooms are clean but no paper towels. Parking lot is adequate for lunch on a weekday. read more
