So I had to move after ten years in my rental with 64 days notice from the property management company because my landlord wants to sell. I kinda knew it was coming because Bethany houses are selling for a LOT but I have had five really just bad years ( Covid,cancer twice, kid issues, my parents both died, my kid was recently in the ICU for a month on a ventilator) and piles of belongings and just stuff. Piles. I hired organizers and packers because I'm just not well enough and had no PTO. They brought their preferred movers, these guys, with them.I had other movers in mind ( Rose City Moving has always been great) but I went along with this to make the organizers happy because I was desperate. Very very desperate. I am gonna admit my house was not the cleanest ok. I have seen worse. But there was dust and cathair and it was just not pristinely sparkling. One bathroom had a broken toilet and was gross. (I got that fixed) I mean do you clean before a move? But Paul the moving rep wanted me to hire housecleaners for $500 to clean before the move as well as pay for the housecleaners I had to hire for after the move for my property people and I just couldnt afford that. I think he might get a comission for the cleaners or something. IDK. It was weird. He was pushy. Or possibly the organizer was exaggerating. It was hard to tell. My organizer kept bringing it up to me and forwarded an email from him that was on the rude side, and the organizer said " we don't wanna have them show up on move day and turn around and cancel because it's not clean and we dont want to expose our guys to that. "I was also told the bathrooms had to be clean so the movers could use them. All of it was so shaming and embarrassing that I seriously considered trying to find someone else and let these guys go. Because I was already demoralized by the whole thing. The last five years have put me in a low place tbh. I needed more tact than what I got. Anyway. We Chlorox wiped and swept and my organizers wound up doing some cleaning and the bathrooms were cleaned up. They murdered my brand new vaccuum sweeping up the rugs. I never even got to use it. On move out day three nice efficient guys showed up on time and they got it all done. The move cost less than half the original quote. No one said a word about cleanliness or dust to me or my minions who helped out at the other end ( because my kid had an important medical appt in the middle of move day). It worked out. I never heard anything negative back. A couple more things. Michelle the move coordinator whom I spoke to on the phone several times was just so very lovely and kind. And the guys did a great job navigating the very tricky parking situation at my new place. The minions were impressed. Would I use them again? Only if my house is sparkly clean. read more

I would prefer to give zero stars, because my experience was terrible. From beginning to end, I was bullied and demeaned by Chipman movers and packers. I'm a 65 year old lone female, and I have moved more times then I care to remember, but never have I or my belongings been so shabbily treated. During packing, I was told I just had too much stuff and I should just move into a mobile home. Other discussions among the packers were conducted in another language, but since I'm not an idiot, I knew that it was more negative comments about me. The packing, which of course I paid for, was the worst I've ever seen. I own a number of antiques that have been in my family for generations, and they were given no special attention. The result? A treasured antique dresser, damaged beyond repair; two precious family pieces - one smashed to smithereens and the other merely damaged. The crew who delivered my belongings were just as bad. One man was "in charge", and his two "helpers" ran in and out of my home as fast as they could, all so they could receive a promised bonus for finishing early. I was left with heavy boxes stacked to the ceiling that I couldn't begin to move. Don't waste your money on a company that charges an arm and a leg and abuses you in the process! read more

Moving MiniMe's things from NY, wasn't going to be a walk in the park for a job in the West Coast. Her new company sent these guys to pack her stuff to be shipped there. Although hubby and I weren't present during the moving process here in NY, MiniMe mentioned that United was entirely swift and professional the whole time. MiniMe's new job company minimized all the effort it takes to move and made it as seamless as possible for her. Not that we had to, but my daughter organized and planned ahead leading up to her move. We had gotten her those big, plastic snap-close containers just so she can put her smaller tchotchkes and that was it. And knowing about United now, I'm sure they had teeny-tiny boxes for such things. I mean...these guys came equipped! We didn't set a budget- as MiniMe's new job took care of all moving costs- but she tipped the guys nicely. The rest, United took care of with an excellent eye for what goes where and what size box would be right for the item(s) with specialty boxes, packing tape, bubble and stretch wrap and tape- to get the job done right. As promised, my daughter's boxes got to the West Coast in tact in a matter of days, placed in storage then transfer her things to her new apartment- until we made the trip there ourselves. When we got to the West Coast to help our daughter sort her things, we realized at that moment- how efficient and committed United is. read more

We were moving from Washington to Texas to be near our grown children and families. It was overwhelming to think of moving ourselves at our ages (67 and 73). But from the moment I was put in contact with Chipman Relocation and Logistics through Mayflower things fell into place so smoothly. Moving Consultation and Estimating were done with Ron Freeman and it was done virtually so we didn't have anyone coming to the house. In the end it was amazing to see Ron was pretty spot-on with his estimate as we didn't owe anything. The next step was moving consultation with Jennifer Thomas. If I had a question she responded within the hour. She kept me up to date with everything going on and would call to see, along the way, if everything was going as planned. I felt so secure with her and felt like she really cared about us and our household goods. Everything went seamlessly! The day of packing Freddy Torres showed up with his crew (Leonard and Abi) on time and they were such fast and hard workers. It took them 6 hrs to pack our entire household. They were such a nice group of 3 people, so polite and friendly. Not one item showed up broken! The following day Willie Rubio and his crew of 4 showed up right on time to load the truck. Again another nice bunch of people and we really enjoyed them. They worked consistently and had the truck packed within 5 1/2 hours. Willie, who would also be the driver to bring our things to us in Texas told us he'd see us in 14 days. 14 days later at 8:00 Willie showed up with Gustavo and John to unload boxes and furniture in 3 hours. They worked up quite a sweat unloading all into the correct rooms. Once again, they were extremely polite, nice and hard working. The entire process from beginning to end worked seamlessly and was a very smooth moving experience. This bunch of people made it a memorable and good decision!! read more

Chipman made our move from LA to Portland easy. They were mid priced compared to other estimates we got. We packed all the boxes ourselves and they loaded and did the furniture. We moved from a 3 bedroom townhouse and didnt have enough to fill an entire truck so our stuff combined w/ another move in the truck. Wasnt a problem. None of our furniture was damaged or missing at the end. Everything was accounted for. The guys on both end were hard fast workers and very pleasant. We highly recommend! read more

The company sent Chapman. I am glad that most of the reviews are good. And that people had a good experience with them. My experience was not so good. The estimator did a terrible job of it. He assured me that everything would fit into one truck load. He was way off. Both my brother and I had to use our pick up trucks 2 times each to get the stuff that would not fit. The worst part was the time estimate. The company is paid by the hour. And I was quoted it would take 6 hours. Give or take an hour. Sounded good to me. So we budgeted for that. At 8 hours the 3 man crew suddenly began moving super slow. Suddenly they didn't know where the clearly marked boxes were supposed to go. And were just generally dragging ass. We had to stay on top of them to keep them moving. We did this by encouraging them and by helping to unload things ourselves. It dawned on me that they were getting paid overtime for anything after 8 hours. So the slow down started making sense. I ended up telling them to just start throwing stuff in the garage. This sped things up but it took a total of almost 11 hours for the across town move of one 26 foot truck. The cost was way over what we budgeted for so it really put a strain on us financially. I will say to be careful when talking things over with the estimator if you decide to use them. read more

Dwight and Mike loaded my belongings and took really good care to wrap my furniture well and document things on the inventory for the unload crew later on. I previously had a great experience with United, so I decided to move crosscountry with them again from Portland to New York. Unfortunately, when I contacted them for a move, they had me go through Chipman Relocations. Chipman is a DISASTER. Use another mover unless you want to overpay for NIGHTMARE customer service. Chipman lost a $1200 leather chair (how funny they "lost" one of the most expensive items being moved). When they arrived, the driver rushed me through signing, but I was assured that if I later discovered something missing, I had 9 months to make a claim. Later that day, as we were putting everything away, I realized the chair wasn't there. I immediately called my move coordinator (again, a few hours after the move) to let her know. (And to her credit, she was great--it was everyone else at Chipman that sucks.) She said she would call the driver and he would call me to let me know what had happened. Well, I never heard back, and when I went to make a claim, they denied me because I had signed the papers saying everything was there. I could accept this if the driver hadn't rushed me through signing the barely-legible paperwork with the assurance that I had 9 months if anything ended up missing. I got quotes from several other movers and Chipman was by far the most expensive, but because of my great experience with United, I decided to pay because I thought I would be getting a company that values customer service over scamming customers. I was wrong, and I will never use Chipman or United again--and I recommend that you don't, either. If you're gonna get screwed by movers, you may as well find a cheaper one. read more

When we needed to get a moving estimate FAST while considering a cross country job offer, Ryan came through, squeezing us into his schedule the next day -- (Everyone else I called wanted to schedule us at least a week later but we only had 48 hours to give an answer on the offer.) -- and getting us a preliminary estimate the same day. That gave us negotiating power on the offer even though the company wasn't offering to pay moving expenses. Cimber, our move coordinator, went out of her way to be supportive and helpful. She was a calming influence and addressed every issue that came up for me. The packers did an uneven job -- some boxes were done quite well but others, including high value items, were practically thrown in a box without any padding. Many boxes were crushed. I'm still unpacking so I don't know yet how much damage there was. I'm shocked that some of the items I've unpacked survived the move based on the way they were packed. (But they did survive, so maybe I shouldn't complain?) Damage has been minimal so far. The packing is the only reason I dinged them a star. read more

Mayflower/Chipman was hired to move my home furniture from Tigard to Newberg. In the process they damaged numerous pieces (washer/dryer, chairs, tables, bedroom furniture, dining room furniture, antique furniture (150 years old)) The movers that came to our home noted that every piece of furniture in our home was in remarkable condition. When the furniture arrived at our home after being stored at the warehouse for a few months the washer and dryer were dented, gouges/dents furniture, the mirror on the antique bedroom furniture was smashed. When we filed a claim they offered a couple hundred dollars and told us everything was like that when they got it. I would never use this company to move anything anywhere read more

We just had the team from Chipman here to move an entire house of items and store them for a relocation to Redmond OR. The team showed up exactly on time and were as professional as any mover we have had. They took time at the beginning to prep the house properly in order to make sure there was no damage to the property. When they brought back empty hand trucks they carried them in instead of rolling them in to keep the house clean. Super respectful. We thought their price was fair and are very pleased. They wore masks 100% of the time and were extremely polite. I can't say enough good things. read more

My experience with the Chipman team was great -- from Ron, who did the estimate, to Jennifer and Dixie, the move coordinators, to the crew who moved us. Their estimate was also much less than another company I had checked with. And even when the third party they hired to take apart some of my furniture was pushed back by a day, they still packed up and delivered all my things on time. We moved three times recently, and once again, used Chipman. As usual, the experience was excellent. For our first two moves in April, Bill was the lead assisted by Chance, Heath, and Jordan. We were in a time crunch, and the whole crew went out of their way to make the move meet the limited time frame. On the second day (of a 2-day move), Bill brought a carpeted "shelved" cart that allowed (since we were moving just a floor away) smaller, unboxed, last minute items to be moved quickly...what a time saver!!! The third move, in early June, was the delivery of items in storage with Chipman. Joe was our lead assisted by Paul and Brandon. They delivered to two locations, and it was a quick, efficient move. All the crews we have had have been fantastic. They are professional, focused, and efficient. For all five of our moves with Chipman, Paul Jelderks was our salesman, and Pamella Merrill was our move coordinator. Both are outstanding. They are professional, knowledgeable, and truly kind. Whenever we had a question, it was promptly answered, and we have always felt comfortable using Chipman because the experience has always been as stress-free as moving can be. Worst experience ever. Terrible service, poor communication, and an all around bad experience. I have left at least 15 messages for my move coordinator this past week regarding a 1500 dollar refund I was supposed to get - not a single call back. They failed to deliver my car on time, many of my things were broken, and for the price tag (13,000 for a cross country move), I should not have had to nmake 3-4 phone calls each time I had a question before someone got back to me. I had to move my very I'll father in 3 weeks, from Oregon to California. Debbie came to the house, looked over everything, gave me all the information in a binder that held all my paperwork in one place. She quoted me a price that never changed. She then handed me over to Cimber who took care of me. She also set up for the car to be transported. Allie called me to set it up. Samuel and his helper came out to pack up the house, which was difficult, as I was only taking my Dads sentimental items. The car arrived when Allie said it would. And my movers Michael and Jerry called me a couple of times thru out the day. Keeping me posted on traffic and another stop before me. When they arrived it was 5 days earlier than I expected. Not only were they moving boxes and furniture to where I wanted it all placed, they even unpacked a couple of boxes of statue's that I couldn't lift onto the table. This company destroyed some of my belongings during a move from the bay area to Portland. After reporting the incident, I was reassured from Day 1 that "it will all be taken care of". Guess what? It wasn't. In fact, they denied my claim stating that I didn't have proof and that it was MY fault for improper packing. The estimator in Fairfield was a nice enough person, but I believe all office staff are trained to tell the customer what they want to hear (to get them off the line), then send the ugly letters telling the same client that their company is not accountable for anything. I have used United Van Lines before with no problems, but would not recommend using this Portland-based company. Debbie did the inventory, which was thorough. She also seemed to have a good solution for my need to store my belongings in Portland for a month or two before moving. But maybe I didn't ask enough questions or Debbie was not transparent enough as I did not get what I thought I was getting. Debbie recommended using containers to move. Since United has container shipping (similar to Pods), I thought that is what I was getting. I was told that they would pack the container at my location in Portland and hold it in storage at their warehouse and then transport when I requested. The night before my move, Cimber called and left a message saying that they would be shuttling my belongings and packing the container at their warehouse -- which was different from what I was told (part of the appeal of the container shipping was that my belongings were not moved repeatedly). Eight weeks later, when I contacted Cimber to arrange the cross-country transport, she said that my belongings were going to arrive the following week -- this seemed very quick to me, so I was not totally surprised when she later pushed the date back another week. But then, the date was pushed another week, then another day, then another day... Cimber seemed to have no idea where my belongings were or when they would arrive and just kept giving me some rehearsed response about weather (there were not any major storms at that time). I believe that they contracted out the delivery to another shipping company and did not use a United Van Lines driver or truck. Once I finally received my belongings, I saw that they had packed them into large wooden boxes (which was not what I was expecting). Almost all of my boxes had big holes in them. A side table had been wrapped only in paper (no moving blanket) and the wooden top was chipped. The plastic covering on my cream-colored sofa had been ripped off and the cushions were stained and dirty. The lids on two plastic bins had been crushed and the contents damaged (even though Debbie had specifically said that I did not need to repack these bins into cardboard boxes). Shelves in an entertainment center had not been removed before packing and were banging around inside. So, if Chipman ever offers container shipping as an option, understand that it is not the same as United Container service and you are taking a big risk with your belongings. read more

Do not use Chipman Relocation Services for your move. When moving from Portland, Oregon to Indianapolis, Indiana, my wife and I reviewed and bid out moving services for our two bedroom apartment to several moving agencies, including United Van Lines. We chose United based on the experience we had with the estimator that came to our apartment to give us a quote. After signing the paperwork, our move was outsourced to Chipman Relocation and the trouble began. Time and again, we were assured of a positive experience and every time, we were let down. While our move coordinator was always pleasant to talk to, she set our expectations high and we were let down every time. When will we know what time the movers will pick up our belongings? - Oh, you should know that at least a week before they arrive. Reality: We were given an arrival time less than 24 hours from the time they came to our apartment. When will they actually show up? - They should be there at 8 am. Reality: The movers showed up at 9:45 and didn't finish until 4 pm or later. All of our boxes were already packed. When will we know the delivery date of our possessions? - You should know that date on the day the movers pick up your load. Reality: On the day the movers picked up our possessions, a driver had not even been assigned to the load, so they had no idea when it would be delivered. We were told different delivery dates not once, not twice, but three different times before we were finally given the truck driver's cell phone number to call him directly. When we called the truck driver directly on Friday, we asked when the load would be delivered? - It will be there on Sunday. This was confirmed twice. Reality: After rearranging our weekend, it was delivered on Monday. When we told the truck driver we were dissatisfied with the level of service we were receiving, he threatened, "If you don't like the way this is going, I'll just put your possessions in storage and you can arrange to get them out." When we asked what time on Monday he would arrive, we were told 10 am. Reality: He showed up at 11:45 am. Throughout the process, I calmly and articulately explained these were problems with Chipman. I offered to help provide them feedback and truly expressed genuine interest in helping their business get better. As a professional with nearly a decade of customer service experience, I'm passionate about creating a positive experience for people who pay money for goods or services. To this effort, Mr. Kuntz (General Manager) left me one voicemail and when I called him back? No answer. No replies to 3 emails. No returned phone call. Unfortunately, I must recommend using another moving service. I don't like sharing negative experiences, but nothing was done to make up for these problems. The poor customer service at Chipman starts at the top and permeates throughout the business all the way down to the truck drivers. If I were United Van Lines, I would drop them as a partner. read more

These guys are exceptional! Anyone in the Pacific Northwest that's going to move Chipman should be your first and only call! Judi Whiteman is phenomenal. There weres 4 months between selling and buying. My household goods were kept in storage during that time. I had nightmares that some of my boxes may be lost. I worried for nothing, Judi tracked my shipment from my old home(Hillsboro Or.) to my new home,(Colorado Springs). She kept in contact with me during those 4 months to let me know everything was on track. When I asked her who I called in CO. to set up delivery she laughed and said "nobody that's what I'm for". It was so reassuring to know that I was dealing with a professional. Judi made the calls in my new location set up deliveries per my request. Totally a worry-free move! And when you're in transit for 4 months it's really easy to misplace paperwork, Etc! Not a problem with Chipman, all I had to do was call Judi. I can't say it enough if you're moving Chipman is the company to call ! Everything they promised, they delivered! And Paul 's guesstimate of the weight of my household goods within 300 lb! And the price they quoted me was the price I paid, no extra add-ons, it was so wonderful to only work with one point of contact. Judi you're the bomb. read more

We recently moved from Oregon City, OR to Covington, WA and chose to use "United" for a second move, the first one being 4 years ago. We initially had another company (MovingLink) come out and their estimate of our household weight was grossly exaggerated. They would not adjust the estimate even after I explained why the estimated weight was not possible based on our previous move. We then called "Chipman United" and Paul J. came out to do a walk thru inventory. He was so thorough, friendly and his weight estimate ended up being just about right on! We were then connected with our move coordinator, Judi W, out of the Portland office. She has been such a blessing to work with through this move! She has been in constant contact with us, explaining what is happening next, asking how we are doing, checking on how the packers/loaders/unloaders are progressing. Although I have not had the chance to meet her in person, I feel like she has been a friend through the stressful time of moving. Our packing/loading team, headed by Samuel, in Oregon City worked so hard! They were so respectful, careful and pleasant! The only unfortunate thing..I was glad I walked the house after they were 'done' packing, as some items were left that I had to point out to have them pack. Not a huge issue though, as that is what a final walkthrough is for. Our items went into storage for about 8 days until our house in Covington was available. The items were carefully wrapped and protected to be put into storage. Our 'move-in' crew arrived at the scheduled time, with semi driver Matt (and his puppy Dallas, who he kept leashed near the truck). He was so organized, pleasant, and kept things rolling smoothly on the unloading and reassembling of furniture. That crew worked so hard! Wow! Service is not dead and it's alive and well at Chipman Relocations. Our furniture had been warehoused in Alameda, CA for nine months prior to our move into our new housein Portland. Travis, Michelle, Kyle and Mike were just great. They were friendly, industrious and knowledgable. Our goods arrived in near perfect condition because of the care they took in its handling. The Chipman Relocations/United Van Lines guys were great - knowledgable from knowing how to package and get the huge desk out of my front door to while speedily wrapping and boxing tiny doodads, they were amazingly fast, but never seemed rushed. Sorry I can't remember their names - I had to wait a month until my new apartment became free, The office staff people and managers were equally well-organized and on the ball. When Debbie or Cimber said they would call - they did. The van drivers also fulfilled their assurances about what time they would come or call. And everything arrived undamaged. Yay! read more

Chipman Relocation's was great on the front end - coming out for the estimate, explaining the process, getting the truck there, packing. Our stuff was going into storage, and that seemed to go well, too. Things went badly from that point. Our move coordinator checked in as we were leaving and told us "Just call me seven days before you want your items." Per those instructions, once we'd found our new house, I called a little over a week before I wanted our household goods and arranged delivery. The move coordinator said "No problem, the driver will call about 24 hours before his arrival." The day before the delivery I still hadn't heard anything so I called to check on the status. "What are you talking about?" was the response I got. Uh-oh. I explained I had called the week before to arrange delivery and was expecting to hear from the driver. I was told that the move coordinator misunderstood my request and thought I wanted it *next* month, not tomorrow. I was told it would be another week before they could get my things to me. So I was now paying a mortgage on a new house I couldn't move into as well as another week of temporary living expenses. Fortunately, United Van Lines, who Chipman Relocations represents, has a $125 per diem for every day that a shipment is late. I asked how I went about applying for this, but was told that the delay was not United's fault and that they wouldn't pay. This was simply a misunderstanding between myself and Chipman, I was told. Misunderstanding or not, Chipman promised delivery on a certain date and the household goods were delivery 7 days after that date. All attempts to reason with Chipman failed and they continue to refuse to honor the $125 per diem delay reimbursement from the contract. Despite the pleasant front end experience, it is the final delivery that counts when moving, in my opinion. Chipman Relocations failed completely in this regard, greatly inconveniencing my family from both a time and money point-of-view. I cannot recommend against Chipman Relocations strongly enough. From experience I know that finding a better moving company won't be easy, but it would be difficult to find worse. read more

Amazing moving service!! Joel and Isaac were our movers, and they were professional, fast, and very meticulous. On top of doing their job very well, they were friendly, funny, and an overall joy to work with. I would definitely reccomend Chipman and choose them again for future moves. This is the second time that I have used Chipman relocation services. From start to finish they are a first class operation. The crew has always been friendly and prompt, communication is great and they are clean and tidy. From the first call to Debbie Banta, she sent out Debbie Brewer for the evaluation and cost estimate. Debbie was fast and courteous. When we contacted her to go ahead with the move, the date was set and coordinator Cimber Dahlstrom called me to organize and oversee the move. She was in constant contact with me to make sure every thing went smoothly. How could it not with a driver like Fredy Torres and his crew, Saul Carrillo and Michael Downey. There were two other gentleman, but I am sorry to not remember their names. I highly recommend this service if you are relocating! read more

We have moved our household several times and have not had any issues with any of those moves, certainly no disputes until we used Chipman Relocation. Firstly, I would like to compliment the packers and driver as they did a fine job. The issue is with the estimating/quote process, and specifically lack of information provided (relates to changes in policy and experience of prior moves and lack of information as to what is not covered by insurance) and miscommunications which led to charges being incurred by us that we did not expect. We were able to prevent the unneeded insurance costs by asking questions in advance and revising the contract, but despite calls to discuss, they have refused to reimburse us the contract amount for items which they did not move. Additionally, my wife asked for a "guarantee" from all the moving companies we interviewed to alleviate her greatest fear....that the truck would not be able to accommodate all our goods. And, despite assurances from Chipman that there would be ample room on the truck for everything, near the end of the loading day, substantial disassembly of many items was necessary, many of the goods ended up in the driver's cab and they even strapped one item onto the back of the truck. If that were not enough, we gave away one large item to allow the truck doors to close and we were still charged by Chipman for moving that item even though we were provided oral assurances that we would not be charged for this and another item if they were not moved. As a first timer using a moving service (cross country nonetheless), I was pleased with the customer service from beginning to end. The remote appointment made the estimate process easy for both myself and the United representative. Cimber was accessible and followed up when she indicated she would which was most appreciated amidst the chaos a move brings. The packers were efficient and were transparent with their communication. It was nice knowing when our containers arrived at the destination cross country and being stored until we arrived. Cimber worked her magic and was able to get the containers delivered a day before scheduled which was a huge help! The guys who unloaded the containers (from AC White out of Macon, GA) were equally efficient and polite. While some of our things were dinged up (likely due to our packing), we were pleased with the experience overall! While I have no interest in moving anytime soon, it's nice to know who to call if and when the need arises. read more

I would strongly recommend NEVER using this company. We moved from Portland, OR to Philadelphia, PA and they could not have been more miserable. Once they had our money they were very unresponsive despite repeated calls. Even more frustrating, when we actually did speak with someone, they were unable to answer our questions. I suspect that they did not even try to follow up hoping we would eventually give up. While the pick-up was OK, I can see now that they damaged a lot of our goods. For example a corner desk that was disassembled is missing multiple pieces and cannot be reassembled. Additionally, the movers here in Philly did not get any parking permits (although Chipman promised they would), were supposed to show up between 8am and Noon but did not arrive until 3pm, and they forgot one of our beds and other furniture! Suffice to say I do not think Chipman could have done any more to ruin our move. In an already stressful process all they did was make it worse. I could go on but do not want to waste any more of my time with these people. read more
