Thankfully the chocolate chip is ever present because it's the best one. The rotating cookies ($4.50) can vary from okay to way delicious. Just had the cinnamon roll one ($6.50) which was quite magnificent. The chocolate chip features a generous amount of dark chocolate and has a gooey middle with firmer edges. It's substantial: weighing over 6 ounces and measuring roughly 4 inches in diameter. Even if you can't enjoy your cookie right away, a few seconds in a microwave will do the trick. And on a side note, Chip City has the cutest cartoon cookies on their boxes. Because this location is tight, most people take their treats to go but there are a few stools at a counter. Don't go too close to closing time since they might be out of some selections. There's also a discount if you pay by cash. Nice employees too. Despite the relatively new name change (#1), Chip has been a household name the moment they opened the oven. Their original location just a few avenues down has been a hit and this Ditmars location is no different. They feature some of the best cookies available in NYC today, real talk. And similarly to the other locations, the smell from their ovens is intoxicating. I know I have to keep the line moving but I always get excited when they bring out a fresh batch and placed on display. Since they only make a handful of cookies each day and feature a few flavors at a time, I'm usually game for all them. Seriously. Their chocolate peanut butter is bomb. The funfetti is colorful. Oatmeal raisin is better than it's classic counterparts. PB&J is addicting. Where I think they truly excel is the fact they offer limited seasonal varies like strawberry shortcake, lucky charms, pumpkin spiced latte, blueberry cheesecake are all delightfully gooey and sinfully delicious. Cookies don't come cheap at $3.50 and change but they're nice and large. I think a boxed half dozen makes for a great gift and a good way to try a variety of cookies. I'm really glad that Chip is still open for takeout with the current situation of things. I came here to grab some cookies and was super excited to try to Key Lime Pie seasonal flavor- and yes, it lived up to the standards I held it too. It has the key lime pie filling in the middle with white chocolate chips and I believe also crumbled graham crackers but not sure on that. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and although I would've liked the key lime pie filling to be little bit more tart, I would still get it again. I also got the chocolate peanut butter (one of my all time favorites) and the chocolate chip. For some reason the classic chocolate chip wasn't as good as I had remembered it to be (I mean it was still amazing don't get me wrong) but it was a little too cake-y. On the way back from a trip, I drove past Astoria and had the munchies for some freshly baked cookies from Chip NYC. Although this little gem is hidden on a side street in Astoria, it can be easily spotted due to the lines out the door. This shop is small. Walking in, you see the counter with the 4 cookie flavors of the day. Behind that is the actual open kitchen where the cookies are baked. I first discovered Chip NYC after seeing it float across my Yelp feed. Being a fan of cookies (and most other desserts), I decided to bookmark it to try whenever I found myself in Astoria. That time came the other night, so I decided to head over to Chip after finishing dinner nearby. There are actually a number of Chip locations - two of them being in Astoria. Judging from pictures this seems to emulate the same types of cookies seen in bakeries like Levain - big, warm, slightly crispy and nice and gooey on the inside. I was closest to the 33rd Street location so I made my way towards there. The bakery has a simple setup - walking in there's a small standing area to take orders and a few stools facing the outside window to sit and eat. It smelled amazing - I really could have just stood there and sniffed my heart out for a good while. I wanted to bring the cookies home, and looking at their menu I saw they had a special price for purchasing five cookies. Since they only had five flavors available at the time it worked out perfectly. The flavors I picked up were chocolate chip, cookies and cream, matcha ruby, salted Nutella, and Funfetti. I was informed that when you buy five cookies you get a sixth free - so I picked up a second chocolate chip. I decided to sample each type and have to say they were all great - big, warm, and full of flavor. My favorites were the chocolate chip and salted Nutella, though that Funfetti was pretty nostalgic and fun. Was it better than Levain? Ehhh I'm not convinced, but it's pretty damn close. Overall, Chip NYC is a winner - they properly execute the big cookie variety (I've been to places that fail), and they have a number of flavors to choose from. This is not everyday food for me, but for a special treat it's definitely worth it. read more
