    Mexican Concha bread.

I was in the Woodside area and stopped by La Fe Bakery to satiate my carb cravings. Arriving pretty early in the morning (around 7:10am) I observed a lot of the display case empty (they probably put out more items along the day), so I chose a Columbian Bunuelo and the classic Mexican Concha bread. Bunuelo 3.5/5.0: Positives were a tasty rich flavor and spongy texture. Negatives were the heavy feeling after eating it and also that it has a really short freshness lifespan as after only an hour the Bunuelo gets quite greasy and dense. Concha 3.0/5.0: Positively, this Concha was lighter than other versions of this bread I've eaten and also more risen; offering an airy texture. However, the sweet topping was not that sweet and actually a tad bland. Not bad, not great, and ultimately pretty average.

This is my favorite place. The food and the bakery is beyond exceptional. I'm always pleased with their customer service and the quality of their food. Importantly, due the COVID-19 they have been taking the appropriate safety precautions which is incredible. I highly recommend this place.

I went to La Fe with the hope that they would fulfill my cravings for a good . First of all, the pan de dulce selection is limited to three types of conchas. I purchased a vanilla, chocolate and media luna. Three breads cost me $4.75, which is pretty expensive for pan de dulce (usual rate is 80¢ to $1.25). The worst part honestly was the taste. The paste was okay, but the bread was salty. Disappointing "pan de dulce".

I ordered a cake from La Fe Bakery for a friend's farewell because I was looking for good tres leches cake since it is her favorite. I read the limited reviews about the tres leches at La Fey and decided to take a leap of faith. I called them to see what their prices were like. The price for a cake to feed 10-12 people was extremely reasonable-$28! They did decorations and a message for free. They require two days notice for cakes, especially if you want something other than a basic tres leches or tres leches without nuts. The bakery is right off Roosevelt Avenue and 64th Street. The people who work here are very pleasant. They are primarily Spanish speaking so make sure you speak Spanish well or ask if anyone speaks English which I did. I didn't want my Spanish to mess up the message and it end up being something inaccurate!! La Fe has a lot of baked good which I can't name because I am not familiar with those items but it all looked scrumptious! La Fe also serves food! They have a nice breakfast menu as well as a lunch/dinner menu with Mexican cuisine. The place is modestly decorated and you will find about 10-15 tables if you want to dine in. All the food I saw as I waited to meet up with my friend looked delicious. The cake was ready and waiting for me when I arrived to pick it up. That was a plus because I hate when you have to wait around because they didn't properly plan out orders. As you can see from the photos they are on point with having cakes prepared! There were at least four other cakes ready and decorated in the cake display area. The cake I ordered was much larger than I anticipated. I imagined a tiny cake the size of a Pizza Hut pan pizza- it was actually the size of an average cake. The fruit decorations they used were really nice and I was so excited to present this to my friend. The cake was huge hit and very delicious! I was so relieved that the cake lived up to my friend super high standards since she makes phenomenal tres leches cake herself. I will definitely go back for a meal and finish it off with tres leches or one of the other many desserts they have there.

Should've known both reviews were fakes, and found the $1 "cinnamon sweetbread" dry and forgettable. Staff was nice enough and there's seating if you're into that, as many seemed to be.

I decided to try their Coconut Pandan cake which was enjoyable except for the jelly they had in the middle. The cake itself was pretty moist and the cream had a nice Pandan flavor. The Portuguese egg tart is what you would expect from one of these bakery's, very basic but it was nice and flaky. The milk tea was also okay, we asked for less sugar so it was not too sweet. We also got the sesame mochi to go and this was delicious! Definitely the best thing I bought from this bakery. The sesame paste was nice and strong but not too gritty and the mochi was super soft. I have to go back to grab another when I get the chance!

Not impressed with their chicken sandwiches for they were hard and there is tendon in one other chicken sandwich has area that was not edible. The quality definitely not what it use to be here. There were lots of seats and tables for patrons to sit. Notice less foot traffic at this store.

A friend recommended it to me, and I've already ordered two birthday cakes from here. The tiramisu cake was absolutely delicious, honestly one of the best I've ever had. I didn't even know you could customize a tiramisu cake since it's usually served the traditional way, but they made it exactly how I wanted. As someone who loves tiramisu, this really stood out. I also ordered a strawberry shortcake, and it was just as impressive. The buttercream was so good , light, flavorful, and not overly sweet. Everyone loved it, and there wasn't a single slice left. The owner's son (I believe) was super helpful, he really takes the time to understand what you want and brings it to life perfectly. I've also tried their croissants, which are huge and delicious, and the hero bread is excellent too. Just a heads-up: they only accept cash.I'll definitely be ordering all my cakes from here moving forward!

It has actually been a while since I've had it and my friend made a special request specifically for strawberry shortcake for her 50th birthday. Du Bois for the first place that came to mind. Took a quick look online from pics from previous customers and was surprised to see the number of different designs they can do now. I picked this pink flower one that the owner made out of fondant and it was so pretty and exceeded my expectations. There was no additional charge at all. Back in the days....40 years ago, there was one style I remember getting and it was white cream with strawberries. Now there's so many you can pick from. The birthday girl was so happy with the design. I ordered a 20 person cake. There were 2 choices-round or sheet cake. Round is $60 which is what I opted for since I thought it looked prettier and the sheet cake is $50. The round cake actually came out very tall but gorgeous. Harder to cut too since it was taller. The owner was so nice. He custom made the top of the cake box to make sure the cake fit and doesn't get damaged. The fresh cream on the cake is so good. Not too sweet and very light. Perfect with the strawberries. The cake part was moist and yummy. I forgot how much I love this cake. All the nostalgic memories of eating it when I was younger came back. Honestly, I think it's even better than I remember. And the price was so reasonable for such a beautifully decorated cake.

Their hot milk tea is a cozy, comforting drink that warms the soul. Fay Da's milk tea may still hold the title for my favorite, but Yi Mei's version is a very close contender. The sponge cake? A pleasant surprise. Despite some folks claiming the bread isn't fresh, I've never really had a negative experience with them. But then again, I only get the sponge cake and I can't differentiate fresh vs not fresh between them (I'll just assume that if it's NOT fresh, I would have been able to tell). For ethnic places like Yi Mei, I don't put much weight on service standards. Comparing them to American restaurants would be like comparing apples to oranges. What truly matters is the authenticity and the food quality, and Yi Mei nails both. So, if you find yourself in the area with a rumbling stomach, swing by Yi Mei Bakery.
