A group of us decided to get some dessert and one of us came here previously for tres leches. We got there around 7:30pm on a Sunday and the line was kind of long and the atmosphere was casual. One of us got the flan and I got the tres leches. Others got the deditos de queso and a guava pastry. We all enjoyed our desserts/pastries. The deditos de queso looked good, so I planned on getting some for the road. We sat in the seating area to eat our treats, and I attempted to get the deditos but they were sold out. Flakey pastry make sure you got a napkin with you. With one bite you get the combo richness of the Guava with the Dulce de Leche. We get 4 of them cause they are so delicious. Service is always bad but I like panes de bono, panes de queso, deditos de queso, pasteles de pollo are the best and avena. I used to go very often with my best friend and the lady touched his feet with her broom ON PURPOSE and she didn't even apologize, while we were sitting she was trying to sweep his feet and we had to leave. Last time I went they gave me a rotten avena and I asked them to replace it without being mean or asking for a refund but they were mad at me and I just didn't drink it. Food deserves five stars. Our go to order also includes the large pan de queso which is super cheesy soft buttery loaf of bread. The service line is quick moving although sometimes long and out the door. The space is tight but nothing compared to years ago before they expanded they now have little tables to sit and enjoy your coffee and snacks. Unfortunately I didn't witness any staff cleaning the tables despite the heavy customer influx--but that didn't stop customers from coming in and sitting non-stop as others left. And here's an important tip: pay attention when you pay--there's one cashier who has a knack for shortchanging you (as in giving you back $10 when she should have given you back $40). Loved the pastries here. Finally.... I found a bakery that sells traditional yucca bread. I love yucca bread but most bakeries in Jackson Heights no longer make it for some reason or they sell out really early in the morning??? I ordered a Pan de Queso [$1.35] which is a bagel shaped bread, speckled throughout, with what may be an Edam or some other soft cheese. The pan de queso was delightful, slightly sweet and just a bit salty. The dough was soft but crisp along the edges. This place opened up about a month or so ago, and business is really starting to pick up. It's first and foremost a bakery, but also does hot sandwiches (think egg and chorizo on fresh enriched bread) and fresh juices (orange and the like, see photo). I saw an espresso machine, brew coffee and a small selection of teas. Various cakes and jelly rolls, and obviously to have true Latino status, flan and tres leches. You can also buy loaves of bread here to make sandwiches. Their plainest one is great for chicken salad and other lunch meats. My absolute favorite is the pan de bono (but I freaking love pan de bono). Good size, costing a buck each. These freeze well, so the bf and I bought a bunch to keep in the freezer. Scooping out the innards and mixing that with some eggs and milk and cheese veggies and restuffing the shells also makes a killer brunch dish, but that's not the point!!! The point is, the interior is cute, service is friendly and prompt, there are bathrooms and a seating area and it's a good, bright and clean addition to the Roosevelt usual. This bakery is really nice, very inviting and everything looks new a s clean. They have lots of typical deserts available like flan, trees leches, cheesecake etc. They also have savoury pastries like empanadas. Really good.
