Ughhhhh. After being stranded at Hill AFB for a week I decided to stay in and make it a netflix night. I called in my order and picked up. It is literally 15 seconds from the base at the top of the hill. I went at 7pm on a Sunday and it was completely empty. I had to ask for military discount. I ordered 4 egg rolls. They were spring rolls with pork. Very thin wrappers. I ordered beef and asparagus. I swear they gave me every nasty end piece they had. I spit out every single piece that wasn't obviously a tip. I'm terribly disappointed. Then I opened the container of "beef lo mein" to find flat white noodles and a grayish-white beef. Sad again... The only saving grace was my husbands general tso's chicken because I haven't tried it yet. He's not home and I'm over this. After I finish writing this review I'm getting a Caesar salad and steak to go from Outback. So incredibly bummed. -------- UPDATE By 930 pm I was vomiting. Tasty Chinese food by the South Gate. Big portions so we normally split a meal and have left overs. I don't like that they charge extra for fried rice with no ham but I imagine the fried rice is precooked and they have to make the fried rice without ham fresh... or at least that's what I tell myself to justify the extra $3 for no ham. Ordered over the phone (like we always did.) She repeated everything back to us right. Picked it up, took it home, and discovered it was wrong. No big deal- we took it back. Apparently it was a big deal for her. She yelled at us and told us we were wrong. Any restaurant that cannot listen to and talk with their customers will not be getting any business from me! read more

Real nice place, clean and great service. Waitress was kind and speaks English. Food is very good. Had the orange chicken, general tao with ham fried rice also assorted triple treat. We had the lunch specials just enough food. Definitely would go there again! read more

It is okay if you are just looking to scratch the itch for Chinese food. But at the end of the day, it's like every other Utah-converted Asian restaurant where they have just modified the normal recipes to just add a bunch of flavored, sugary syrup to every dish to accommodate the palate of the typical Utahan. read more

Excellent hot and sour soup. The lo mein is great! Haven't had a bad meal here. Atmosphere is alright and service is very good.

I haven't found a better Chinese restaurant inn all of Davis and Weber county! Did is always on point, good prices, large servings, very clean, and very friendly service. Absolutely love this place. If you live in Ogden, I believe they own one called Fuji Dragon and it serves the same food. read more

Decent food at a decent price. Not great, but not bad for the Layton area, which Seems to struggle with Chinese food.

China Hill used to be our favorite Chinese restaurant in Layton. I'm disappointed to say that the food has gone downhill. We ordered the Chicken with Cashew, Orange Chicken and the House Special Pan Fried Noodles. The orange chicken came batter dipped and fried, swimming in sauce. Unfortunately the chicken was rubbery and the sauce thick and sweet with only a hint of orange. The cashew chicken fared slightly better. Lots of veggies, cashews and chicken, but again the sauce was the dish's Achilles heel. It was thick and too salty in my opinion and smothered the dish like a wet towel. Lastly, I ordered the House Special Pan Fried Noodles. In China Hill's defense, I've never ordered it before and somehow expected it to be a lo mein like dish whose noodles would be a touch crispy and caramelized from the pan frying. Alas, I was wrong. Smothered in a sweetish brown sauce, the noodles had all sorts of vegetables as well as shrimp, chicken and pork. The shrimp tasted faintly of iodine- never a good sign... Trust me, I'm a classically trained chef with lots of experience in commercial kitchens. The noodles were fine, but I would have been happier with their lo mein, which I've ordered a number of times in the past. The sauce in this dish was heavy handed with the soy sauce and the resulting dish was again, over salted. Overall a disappointing outing for China Hill. I think we'll try the place on 193 next time. read more

Eaten here twice now. First time, food was very typical Americanized Chinese. It was ok. Not bad, but not great. Second time we got take-out and decided to try out the sushi menu. The crab cheese wontons were great. The sushi......not so much. Spicy mayo was not spicy. In fact, it had no flavor at all. The lemon slices on the sunset roll were waaaay too thick, and the rest of the sushi was bland at best. The fish tasted old and I literally could not chew through the tough and stringy seaweed wraps. I had to spit them out. The best I can say for their sushi was that, so far (24 hours later), I haven't gotten sick from it! read more

The food here is okay, not the greatest, but not the worst either. The service is HORRIBLE. I ordered delivery from them and the girl who answered the phone sounded like she was half asleep the whole time. She couldn't do basic math to figure out if I qualified for a coupon that had a min order amount to get (I literally had to tell her X+Y=Z so I have met the min amount to qualify for the coupon). When I tried to tell her my address for the food to be delivered it was more work than getting to the moon and she couldn't seem to grasp the concept of what an apartment building was and didn't believe me when I told her I lived in apt Q, (why I don't know)! When I got the food, which was not that long of a wait, I noticed that the total was much more than the state tax would have bumped it to, so I tried calling them back. It took four attempts of her answering and mistakenly hanging up the phone before I finally got through to tell her I had been overcharged. She went from near comatose to outright rude when I again had to point out her faulty math and instead of admitting she had overcharged me told me to consider it a delivery fee and hung up on me. I feel like given the way I was treated, two stars is overly generous, but I'm trying to account for the fact that maybe the actual owner didn't overhear the way she talked to and treated me and that they would never treat a customer that way. Long story short, the food and delivery time were decent and well within expected, but the customer service factor pretty much negated that. I won't be back and highly advise others not to patronize this restaurant, at least by delivery. Hopefully in person you would get a better experience. read more

My family and I have been going to this restaurant since we moved to Layton in early 2000s. The environment is relaxing and food is amazing. Servers are kind and always make sure you are at home and enjoying your meal! We order take out with friends and close family often and they all agree it's the best quality Chinese! Ordered Family Dinner for 4 to be delivered. Delivery was prompt and price was $34. Quantities of food entrees was generous EXCEPT the wanton, soup and spring roll was not as expected. I found a small bug in the rice... disgusting! When I brought it to their attention they agreed it was a bug but said it couldn't have come from their restaurant and basically called me a liar. Disgusting and bad customer service, hard to say anything good about this place. read more

Best Chinese Restaurant in the area! I have tried them all! China Hill serves a lot of food for lunch. Great for leftovers! Three of us can eat there for less than $20. Staff is friendly and respectful. Great place to go with co-workers. read more

Recommended by a friend. Went in for lunch on New Years Eve no lunch specials because of holiday. No big deal. Ordered 5 dishes. Peking beef which was excellent, Hunan beef which was good, Singapore noodles which were excellent, Szechuan shrimp and scallops which were good. Surprisingly the black bean chicken was not that great. The flavor was very light and that dish usually has a strong flavor. Service was prompt but not overly friendly, I think in part to a language barrier. Over all pretty good. Would go back. read more
