Food was so delish and the lunchtime specials portions sizes were large. I swear we got dinner portions and I ain't mad. We had a hard time deciding which meal to try because everything smell amazing. Service was hands down epic. The owner/manager was on top of everything from the moment we enter. The following is my opinionated view and observations...I placed two orders on Saturday, and payment is required prior to preparation. During payment, the owner moved items (paper & containers), wherein I observed insects scatter across the counter. The owner quickly attempted to smash the insects and swipe/wipe the vectors to the ground. Upon observation, I requested an immediate refund, wherein I was informed that the food was already purchased and no refund would be provided. An accusation of starting trouble all the time was stated, wherein I stated I have not ordered anything in two years--a feeble attempt to not refund. This place is filthy and has rapidly declined in atmosphere. Young children are also running around in the lobby and kitchen area, which is another safety concern. The health department (Davis County Health; John) has been notified with filing. I will not return to this business and strongly recommend others not to frequent this business. read more

I have eating at this business for over 3 years. I can say there food taste and prices are the best in Northern Utah. I am probably the cheapest person around, so if I like something, I like to announce it because I would be the first to bitch about it, if it wasn't good. The people here, have treated me great, they know when I am calling and accommodate me if I am in need of something strange. The atmosphere could always be better but then everything would change because everything cost more money. So I would rather have a simple setting and good food than a great décor and the food tastes like every other Chinese restaurant. read more

On Christmas Eve I made a large, desperate order for abt 15 people for our traditional Chinese meal on Christmas Day (a la A Christmas Story). Another restaurant closer to us had canceled on us last minute. And Chinese Kitchen saved the day. Even though they were about to close, this cute little family-run buseinss was both welcoming and accommodating. I was picky on the menu and changed things around several times as the order developed. Food was hot and ready for pickup the following day. They went out of their way to be respectful and appropriately happy for our business. In particular we loved the tempura shrimp. And the shrimp in the other dishes was fresh for a land-locked region of the U.S.A. Their house lo mein was delicious! We also got the singopore rice noodles which only some of us liked. The chow mein/chop suey was also very well liked. The orange chicken was good, tho not fantastic. Their Char Siu (bbq pork) was quite good for a Utah restaurant. Fried rice was full flavored and the teriyaki style chicken was gobbled up quick. Shrimp in the "house" combo dishes were nice and big. They did not have garlic eggplant with tofu. But their Tofu w/Vegetables was actually great! We were not given fortune cookies with our order, perhaps an oversight or just a new trend if you don't ask for them. One thing to note is that the items they have listed as spicy are actually spicy, which for me is great. But they don't toned it down for the local population, be sure to specify if you want mildly spicy or not at all spicy. Personally, I enjoyed the spiciness but some in our group could not. Two challenging elements for their ambiance as a sit down restaurant are, first, it's location east of the AFB and outside the area's greater shopping and dining flow. Also the premises themselves look rather tired and run down inside and out, though it really is clean (including the men's room, as I needed that). The dining room is small, with maybe six tables and six booths, so they would not be good for a big party. We will be ordering takeout from them again for small or larger orders. I'd give it 5 stars for its service and friendliness and 4 stars for its food. read more

This is a new owner since about December of 2022 or January 2023. A great improvement in food taste and service. Very good Chinese food!! Finally found a consistently delicious Chinese food. All others have lacked flavor, were overcooked and too expensive for what you got. It's conveniently next to my hair salon which is how I came to try it under the new ownership. The girls at the salon highly recommended it so I gave it another shot. So happy I did! This restaurant has made some flavorful favorites that I go back to each time. Lunch time! I ordered the 2 item combo, general tso chicken, kung pow chicken with ham fried rice and opted for a cup of hot & sour soup. The lady that helps you when you come in is quite voicetorious, she is always telling how good it is, what was funny is after she delivered the meal she came right back and asked for cash or credit card payment, that's okay, but I throw down a ten dollar bill and the bill was for 8.50 she said "a buck fifty for tip, thank you" not allowing be to offer it. This is the BEST Chinese food here in Layton. We LOVE Chinese food. My husband and I are super picky, but this is the best Chinese food we've had here in Utah. The veggies are perfectly cooked, crunchy and fresh. The sauce for the General Tao's chicken was the most delicious sauce I've ever had. Their fried rice was so tasty and fresh; and the egg drop soup had the best flavor that was not overpowering. The Lo Mein was not overcooked and soggy, it was so yummy. My husband hates crab wontons, but he LOVES theirs. We have absolutely no criticism or complaints. It is PERFECT. We will never go anywhere else for Chinese. read more

I love Chinese American food and decided to give this place a try, based on reviews. We ordered from the dinner menu; I got General Tao's chicken. I was surprised they also included sweet and sour chicken, part of the dinner upgrade I guess. The flavor of the General Tao's was good, but it was the spiciest I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant. I didn't mind that, but my wife (a heat wimp) couldn't handle it. So be forewarned if you have difficulty with heat. (It had a Thai or Vietnamese vibe which made me wonder if the owner's ethnicity came from that region.) I also ordered Hot and Sour soup and really didn't like it. I'm a hot and sour soup junky, but this soup didn't do it for me! Very strong white pepper seasoning. You might like it, I didn't. The ham fried rice and egg rolls were average. I was visiting a relative in Layton and searched online for good restaurants before I arrived. I thought this place was take-out only, but it turns out they have four booths. At any rate, I got take-out for us. We ordered shrimp with mixed vegetables. The shrimp (and they were good-sized) tasted so fresh, and the vegetables were like they picked them out of their garden that morning and brought them into the restaurant to cook with. My boyfriend introduced me to Chinese Kitchen about 2 years ago and it has become my absolute favorite Chinese food in Utah. We recently moved up to Brigham City and will drive down to Layton probably once a month or more to have good Chinese food! We have tried to find a good Chinese restaurant a little closer to us and have not been able to find one that comes close. The family is super nice and the customer service is on point. The food was ok but for some reason the rice was very dry. Additionally, they seem to have forgotten my soup. I tried to call to see if they could make it up next time, but alas, nobody answered. The food is outstanding. The store is amazingly clean. The dinner combo includes a side of orange chicken wich is just brilliant. The on line ordering does not always work. It requires you to enter a 4 digit code it texts or robo calls to you and on my Android device it fails about 9 out of 10 times usually requiring me to re start the entire order multiple times to place the other. I love the food though. That being said i will only fight the robots for a bit . So I frequently start the order and rage quit ending up eating somewhere else. read more

I mean wow! I've been here several times and me and my girlfriend both think this is some of the best Chinese food we've had in the area. Compare to Panda Express (which is where most would go for some quick Chinese food) where you get noodles with almost only vegetables in it, crappy service, overpriced garbage. With this place you get a steal of a deal. Cheaper prices, better food, better service, and a real Chinese restaurant experience. Nope. Never again. I used love this place. Not any more. I've lost too much money. And losing money on top of enduring the rudeness is just not worth it. A few months ago I ordered some food only to find out they charged me an extra 10 dollars when I got home. Ok so maybe I should pay more attention. Next time I ordered I made sure to check the price carefully before paying only to find they left out an 8 dollar item when I got home. It was even written on the box! Tonight I ordered cashew chicken and guess what? Not one cashew to be found! Not even a piece of cashew! Been back tonight and the Mongolian beef was great. My wife got chicken and vegetables. Both were hot and fresh. A full meal. Also got a large hot and sour soup. All for under 20. Price is right. Great to go order place. Can't deliver. No biggy go to Wallmart or other places and while your there order out. 15 minutes go pick up your food and head home and eat. No cooking. Not super fancy but has good variety and tables to hang out and read some magazines and or talk if you need something to do. Shrimp and mixed vegetables are great. Chinese is there specialty. They do everything to make it right for you. Remember they are bilingual and trying hard to bring their homeland dishes here. So they are not a franchise. Only to cook all day for you. Chinese kitchen is a pretty good "Panda Express" type restaurant. They have basically the same setup as PE where you can get rice or chow mein with 1, 2, or 3 entrees. I ended up choosing the chow mein with BBQ pork and Beef with Broccoli. I have to say the BBQ pork is really good. My coworker, who's Chinese, even told me how authentic it is. The pork is red on the outside due to the marinating process which leaves the meat juicy and full of flavor. Compared to the well-cooked pork the chow mein wasn't the best, I've had better. It kind of made me wish that I had chosen the rice instead. On a plus side, the staff there are really friendly and anxious to help in any way they can. My very picky toddler ate a lot of my sweet & sour chicken. The crab rangoon was outstanding. I did have to subtract 1 star because our order wasn't 100% correct. I asked for no onions or veggies in the Mongolian Beef, and she said that would mean a smaller portion, since it was just meat. I said that was fine, we'd just throw the veggies away anyway. Our order arrived with mushrooms, zucchini, and onions. My husband picked through and said the meat was good. Next time we'll just order 2 portions of sweet & sour chicken, it was FANTASTIC. It's run by a family from China and it recently got passed down to the daughter of the previous owner. They have a wide menu that all ranges from vegetarian to classic chinese options. I found this place one day when in the area. It is run by some Chinese from Hong Kong. The food is great for the price and they will always cook it fresh for you if you want. Portions are pretty big for how much they charge. In Layton this is the only place I have found so far that will serve Cha Shao that is actually good and authentic. The service style is like Panda express, but I think the food is better. Not much seating inside so take out is sometimes preferred. What they consider spicy is really not that spicy and the fried rice is pretty generic. My rating is really around 3.5 stars for this little place to eat. read more
