This might sound a bit odd to some, but the fried cheese wontons (8 pc) makes for an excellent dessert with the sweet sour sauce! You get the fried outside (like a pie), the creamy cheese inside (like cheesecake), then the sweet and sour sauce is like the sugary icing on the cake! So that was the reason for my most recent visit, as I was completing a steak dinner after the fact. And I have to say; it was all delicious! This restaurant has the best price on this item which includes two sweet and sour sauce small cups and a gratuitous fortune cookie. See my fortune in the photos. It's actually one of my most favorite sayings;+) Strange synchronicity there.... I will say the cheese wontons were stuffed with cream cheese to the point I had one lying low belly side up in the red river sweet and salty flo cup :+) ....alas, they were alll fried to perfection with excellent texture and portion size per each. Wondering if this restaurant carries hot mustard? I've requested it during takeout orders but never received any. Anyways, hot mustard and wontons go well together in a dinner (not dessert) form. My palate loves trying new and spicy things! Point being, wontons are very versatile so have some fun and good food that won't break the bank! read more

We have been looking for a good Chinese place since we moved to this area. This is the second time we have tried them, and we love them. I love that they don't have MSG, even though people say it brings the flavor. The portions are great. We love their egg rolls. The hot mustard is the bomb. I like shrimp, while my family likes chicken, and it works out great. I also love how they call you if they have questions or can't fulfill a certain order. Today, they gave us free noodles and the plain fried rice had peas and carrots because they were out of plain fried rice. They are awesome, and I love the leftovers. read more

Quantity v. Quality China Fortune Restaurant has great customer service and surprisingly large portions. However, I would take *quality* over quantity any day. Customer Service & Wait Time: We ordered online to be picked up ASAP and received a call after 5-6 minutes after our order was sent in. They told us out food was ready. Wait time at restaurant, 30 seconds or so. It was great! Food, Servings, & Taste: The lo mein was all grease and had a strange smell. I ordered sesame chicken and it smelled like old grease. Taste of Sesame Chicken 4/10. Taste of Sweet and Sour Chicken 6/10. The cheese wantons and fortune cookie 10/10, chicken dumplings 6/10, and Godzilla Sushi 8/10 (however it was over-priced). Serving sizes were surprisingly large! Taste is the food was surprisingly disappointing. I'm no professional food critic, but I won't likely be visiting this restaurant ever again. Had a 2:45P weekday lunch. No other diners present. Restaurant was neat, no yucky smells and I could find a table with outdoor lighting by which to read. Chose the lunch special of pork w/veggies, served w/egg roll, egg drop soup, ham fried rice and a cream cheese wonton. It was under $7. LOTS of rice, which was okay, and lots of pork, which was just a touch dry. Plenty of tasty sauce but would have enjoyed more veggies and less meat. Also ordered the Lancer Roll - spicy tuna & avocado - w/soy paper. (Upcharge as expected.) Left off wasabi and provided plenty of ginger as requested. It was tasty as well. Service was prompt, attentive but not hovering, and she offered to fill my drink. Overall okay but not sure I'll return. Just didn't blow my socks off. read more

I got a pamphlet in the mail for this restaurant, so I figured why not. I called to place an order for two value meals, not knowing the sizes or portions. The man's response on the other end was immediately, "wait really?!" it honestly made me feel like I was being a major fatass.. listen, I know I am, but it wasn't just for me, it was for my family. I explained that a little and said we wanted leftovers, so he was more understanding (not that he'd deny me food, anyway..) but this is what lost one star. The redeeming quality, however, was how fast they were with the food. I tipped them a couple of bucks, because they brought the food out to me in my car. The food was yummy, and not too bland to me... but nothing addictive. they advertise "no MSG" but MSG really is the king of flavor. ;) I'll probably give this place another try in the future, just don't make people feel fat. read more

This is the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten, and wasn't cheap. I bypassed my local take-out favorite, Chinese Kitchen, because they aren't open Sundays. It was a mistake; I should have gone for the Panda Express level of disappointment instead. Overcooked, few and poor quality ingredients, and flavorless. I had been looking for a new local place to get Chinese food since I decided to boycott Panda Express after years of HORRIBLE service from every location I went to! I love their food, but it's not worth the bad service! I had been trying places from time to time around the local area and found them all to be kind of "meh" and thought maybe I would just have to have just okay Chinese food from now on, when I noticed this little place off of Hillfield and decided to give it a try! So glad I did!!! I can only rate what I have tried so far, but I would guess the rest of their food is just as yummy! I got the lunch special Teriyaki fried chicken and subbed lo mein for fried rice, you also get soup, and a fried wonton with it. If you go with the rice option, it is cheaper than Panda Express, if you sub the lo mein like I did, it is apx the same as their "plate" option. Everything I got was just as good, if not better than Panda Express! You get more food for less then PE for apx the same price, plus the soup and wonton, which PE would charge you extra for! The staff are friendly, good at their jobs, and the service is FASTER than I have ever gotten in and out of PE (esp the drive through)! China Fortune also has their own drive through, so if you know what you want or have called ahead and are picking up an order, you don't even have to go in! I really like this place and I am so happy to have found a wonderful Chinese restaurant that I can go to again, and I'd much rather give my money to a local business that treats me well, then some corporation that doesn't see me as a person, just a dollar sign and doesn't care about providing good customer service because they are so large they can stand to loose a customer here and there and not suffer any major losses. If you're like me and wanting to find an alternative to the corporate guys and support a great local restaurant, give them a try! In closing I also want to add they have the GOOD chopsticks you don't have break apart and always split unevenly! They have the nice ones that are two separate sticks! Their fortune cookies are also the old school ones with REAL fortunes not just generic quotes like, "You are humble and wise", it's an actual fortune! I was actually pretty impressed with this place. Staff was friendly, restaurant was clean and the food was great. I got the general tso dinner which came with the entree and a side of white rice. The portions here are huge! I couldn't even put a dent in my food. My boyfriend is the type of guy that will eat all his food, and then everyone else's who can't finish theirs, but he couldn't even finish his own! I would recommend getting the combination rather than the dinner. They're the same price except you get a smaller entree portion (which is still pretty big) plus you get soup, rice, egg roll and some wontons. They also have sushi here. I'm not a sushi fan, but my boyfriend is. He got the spicy tuna roll. He said it was....okay... he's had better, but not the worst he's had. So that was our only complaint here. This is one of my favorite Chinese food places in Layton! I've dined in, done carry out, and have food delivered; it's been a great experience every time. Whenever my parents or in-laws come to town (and feel like Chinese), this is the place for us. Some of my family's favorite dishes are the orange chicken (has a bit of a spicy kick), the vegetable beef, and the chicken vegetable. I really like the cheese wantans and ham fried rice. Not Campbell's chicken noodle soup with eggs like some other Chinese restaurants. Their Chinese dishes are Americanized but wonderful. The sweet & sour chicken had a great breading. The portions are very generous. I don't eat fish/seafood but our dining partners do and they claim that the sushi is fabulous. I had them make me a vegetarian roll and added some special requests which they seemed glad to fulfill. The ambiance is modern. The staff is very friendly. Came into this place right at opening and a young man served us. His service was great. Attentive, quick to answer questions, and friendly. We got the dinner for three and had plenty of left overs. Yes it is full portions. Surprisingly my favorite was the egg rolls. Usually not a huge fan, but they were fresh. Soup was good. The entree were good but the chicken was just a little chewie. The floor in the kitchen is dirty n filled with trash everywhere. My story is I saw they posted it for sale on ksl and I schedule for viewing the kitchen, long story so make it short! The owner restaurant wanted me to put down my deposit (earnest $) $5k which is no refundable accept if landlord won't assign the lease to me. So the rent+cam+property tax came out $700 more than what they advertised on ksl, so I want my deposit back and now they want to take my deposit due to I back out on the deal , so they sitting on my $ for a month then I threatened them will take them to court n report their realtor to Division Of Real Estate then they give me my full refund. I haven't try their food but I saw the way their kitchen, store their foods I will never want to try!!! read more

Chinese Fortune is directly across the street from our complex, so I thought it would be nice to have convenient carry-out Chinese. I was absolutely wrong, and should have realized that there are rarely any cars in the lot. The food was TERRIBLE, and cold. Too many people are too negative, and if one thing goes wrong they give a terrible rating. How many times do people screw up in their own kitchens? People need to calm down and understand that no place will be 100% every day. Read between the lines, throw out all the bad reviews, and judge for yourself. I've been here a few times in the past few months simply because of it's easy access. Everything I've ordered has always been pretty good. Not fantastic. Nothing unique or different than any other typical american chinese restaurant. Just pretty good. The mongolian three kinds is yummy. We usually don't eat all of the fried rice in combination meals but the sauce on the mongolian three kinds was so good, we ended up mixing it in with the rice to get every last bit. I don't recommend the sweet and sour anything. It's mostly just breading and sometimes all breading. Egg drop soup and hot and sour soup were good. Typical but good. I like the cream cheese wontons because they are pretty big and have a lot of cream cheese in them. The dumplings are decent. The sushi is also decent but the prices are a bit high for just decent sushi. So if you're craving chinese feel free to try this place out.
