Wife and I just had a marvelous dinner without breaking the bank and the lady that served us was delightful. We hadn't been there before, so we bought the sampler appetizer of fried shrimp, fried pot stickers, veggie rolls and cheese wontons. My wife loved the fried cheese wontons and we both enjoyed the veggie rolls. We also bought 4 entrees: veggie fried rice, Kong Poa Veggies, Veggie Lo Mein and General Tso's Chicken. We enjoyed everything very much and the entrees averaged out at about $12.50 a piece, so it was not expensive. read more

The food is pretty good but the place is expensive and the portions are small not a good combination we bought enough food for 3 people about $90.00 worth this gives us enough food for at least 3 meals each. At this place that same $90.00 did not give us enough for a real meal for 3. I am sorry to say money is to tight for those prices again. Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. Went a few miles off my trip to try this restaurant based on Yelp rating. Was unfortunately underwhelmed. Service was very prompt and pleasant, and food was cooked to order. Ordered the Teriyaki chicken bento box which comes with soup, salad, 2 potstickers, fruit or veggies, and steamed rice. Hot & sour soup had more ingredients than I've had at other restaurants, so probably their own recipe. It was very good. Salad was just lettuce with creamy sesame dressing. Fruit was 2 orange slices. Potstickers were fried - I prefer mine steamed. Steamed rice was good as was the Teriyaki sauce, but there was too much sauce and the chicken had a strange texture, almost like chicken skin. $10.29 There were lots of other items from which to choose; maybe something more traditional would have had a better outcome. However, really out of the way from where I live, so probably won't make a second journey. read more

Way too expensive for very for mediocre food. $42+ for Sesame Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken, 2 orders of fried rice and 1 order of wontons. At our favorite Chinese places in Salt Lake County we can order all of that + soup and pay nearly half the price. The wontons were lacking in flavor. The ham fried rice needed salt and it was an extremely small portion for being $8 each order. Every chinese place we have ever been to always serves the sweet and sour chicken with the sauce on the side. This was not the case here which made the chicken extremely soggy and not very enjoyable since we are used to it being still crispy. The flavor of the sauce was decent. The sesame chicken wasn't very good either, it was also not very flavorful. If the prices weren't so high we'd be willing to give some other menu items a try but unfortunately it's not worth the money and we won't be back anytime soon. read more

On Yelp, this place comes up as a suggestion for sushi. After looking at pictures of the menu, I called and orders 1 Philly roll and an order of egg rolls. The picture of the menu online said the Philly roll was around $5 per roll then $2.95 for egg rolls. When I walked in to pay, the total came to over $16, about double the price I expected. Then I opened the sushi container to find the rice wet, the wasabi looked very old, and it smelled very fishy. The egg rolls were good, but the sushi tasted bad and I threw most of the expensive roll away. When waiting for my food, I looked at the menu in the store and sushi was nowhere to be found, so I wish they had just told me they don't make it anymore and I would have gotten an $8 lunch special of orange chicken. read more

My friend and I needed something to keep us alive after riding our motorcycles to antelope island and hiking around all day. Enter China Grove. The place was completely empty when we got there which normally isn't the best sign, but given that it's a Chinese restaurant I assumed they did a lot of take-out (I did see someone come to get food and the employees were also on the phone taking orders). My friend ordered the General Tsao's dinner special and I went with the Sesame Chicken. You get a good amount of food with the specials, including rice, wonton, spring roll, shrimp, soup, and your entree. I would say the food was pretty good, although I have never had sesame chicken like that. It was a bit saucier than expected. Not bad, but different. I will say I liked the General Tsao's dish much better, but that might just be personal preference. It had a nice flavor, but wasn't overpowering. read more

We came based in reviews, but we should have checked the demographic. The menu didn't have pork dishes, which is a Chinese stable. She said we can order pork, they have it, just not on the menu. That begs the question, are we eating really old pork or are they putting it into food without diners ordering? She assured we were getting the "Chinese" version of foods. Hot and sour soup: tasted like it was packaged, but not bad String beans with shredded pork: very thickly cut pork. It didn't tasted Asian. Yiuxiangrousi: again, not very shredded pork... Shrimp tempura: not at all crispy. Food was not great, but service was fantastic. Shouldn't be expecting much from a Midwest Chinese restaurant. read more

First off let me say, the food was really good...well the main dish portion anyway. I ordered the Pon Pon chicken dinner combo and my wife got General Tsos chicken combo. Both the main chicken dish portions were really good, however, the extras were average at best. The fried rice was ok...maybe a little bland. The egg roll was ok but really...I mean really small. The fried shrimp was pretty much breading and really small as well. I guess that was a theme for this restaurant. The entire meal was small. It felt like a lunch portion. Even the pieces of fried chicken were really small. I guess I am accustom to most Chinese restaurants that provide pretty good portions on the dinner menu. Most Chinese restaurants leave me with leftovers for a great snack or lunch the next day. I will say that the Hot and Sour soup was delicious. Overall this was just average for me. read more

*** Update to this review below *** Tried China Grove tonight after reading reviews. Was excited to see they deliver. The food was okay, although I was a bit aggravated about the price of what we ordered. Not sure if they have a hefty delivery fee or if we were inadvertently overcharged. Wife called in an order for delivery in evening of 4/17/15 We Ordered: beef lo mein- $7.50 6 pot stickers - $5.95 Cali roll - $3.95 Fried sweet potato roll - $3.25 We expected to pay about ~$21 + tax plus tip. Food was delivered and the total was $30.35. Someone else got the door, signed and gave a $3.00 tip on top of the overcharge. So in all, we ended up paying $33.35 for what I expected to be considerably less. We just got a credit card receipt and no itemized receipt. As mentioned, I was a bit put off by this overcharge so it was a bit difficult to enjoy the food and write a fair review about quality. I may try them again some day. If so, we will get take out or dine in for sure. No more delivery. After checking their site, I saw the only requirement for delivery was the order had to be at least $20 minimum before tax. Nothing about a delivery fee. Moving on. We still have some lo mein. We'll see how that might taste in the morning. No way I would waste any of this food after the premium we paid. *** Update 4/30/2015 *** The evening of 4/28 we were watching some forgettable TV rerun trying to unwind when the doorbell rang. We were surprised to find it was our delivery driver that had delivered our original China Grove order a week or so prior. He had realized the mistake that was made and wanted to make it right! He stood there at our door and gave us back the money that we had been over charged PLUS brought us some fresh food as an apology for the mix up. He explained that the evening we had ordered, there were some recently hired staff in training which resulted in the mix up. He was very apologetic. I can say that we were pleasantly surprised. I never did get his name. The beef Lo Mein and egg drop soup he brought us was pretty good. I thought it meant a lot that he made the effort by coming to our house to fix the issue and we really appreciate it. We'll definitely be back to China Grove again. We had Chinese and sushi delivered. The delivery service we used was excellent. The Chinese dishes were good. The sushi was terrible. Out of 6 rolls only one was good-the Volcano Roll. Also, we ordered hand rolls, and they were NOT hand rolls, they were regular small rolls. On top of that, the hot Maki rolls were packed together in the same container with the cold rolls, ruining BOTH. It was a total waste of over $100. We got two decent dishes and only ate 1 of the rolls. The rest went to the dogs and into the trash. I gave them two stars for the Chinese and because I should have known better than to order sushi from a Chinese restaurant:-) read more

I unfortunately feel that I have to leave a review. I'm going to review the food and the food alone. It was awful. We ordered so much food from starters, combos, sides and sushi. I would absolutely not order any of it again! The egg drop soup was terribly bland. The ham fried rice was officially chopped hot dog in an off color rice. It truly deserved a picture. The chicken curry was edible as were the pot stickers. We refused to eat more than a few bites of the beef and broccoli or the sesame chicken. We put the lo mein in the fridge but never could bring ourselves to eat it. The sushi was not restaurant quality. It was not awful, but being surrounded by awful food made you question whether or not it should be trusted. There are other choices nearby. The reviews led me to give this place a try. Decided to try a new place. Reviews seemed ok but takeout was disastrous. First the food itself was cold and very unappetizing. It looked old and smelled old, the soup was gross. The fried rice had large peices of burnt egg in it, the rice and ham were gray and was off putting. The portion size was not a dinner size more of a lunch size. The chowmein was gross. Overall I am not sure of the other reviews but I would avoid this place. The food was horrible and overpriced. read more

Excellent food! The portions are a bit small, but it's just enough to fill you up. Only complaint: We asked if their cheese wonton had crab or just cheese, and they said it's just cheese. But when we got them, they were clearly crab cheese wonton. Not a big deal; I love them, the wife just isn't a fan of crab. read more

My brother, his wife and I went to this place and had high hopes due to neighbors loving it. Boy were we disappointed. The waitress was nice, but inattentive and we had to get her attention several times due to missing silverware, no menus, and her not coming to take our orders. I got the beef curry, and it was the worst curry I've ever had. The beef was obviously boiled, because it had no flavor other than the curry, and it had the terrible texture of gelatin meat. The curry sauce was no better. I'm guessing they buy packets of the stuff from next door at smiths, because it had barely any flavor. ALL of the food came out warm, but almost cold. The cream cheese wantons were solidified, and my boba smoothie was mostly melted. The rainbow sushi roll was hit and miss, but mostly miss. The tuna was melt-in your mouth, but the salmon was dry, like it was sitting out for awhile. Also, they don't use enough rice and the sushi isn't packed tightly enough because it fell apart as soon as we picked them up. I don't know how this place gets four stars, because it's a one for me. read more

There was another group of 3 people who were seated before us and their food came out first, one dish at a time. My entree, of our two, came out first and even when I tried to eat very slowly, I was done before my wife's gluten free entree (at an extra $3) came out. You have to eat here!!! I just did my review for a horrible Chinese restaurant and realized I never reviewed this gem when we went here last year. I completely forgot about this place since we moved. It kind of gets lost in a strip of stores. I'm excited we will be going back this weekend. When we went they were fairly new to the area and super busy. The place is really small so we got take out. They did make a mistake with our order by giving us steamed rice rather than the fried rice we upgraded to, but they were immediately forgiven with the first bite of food (thus the 3 stars). The food was wonderful!!! I haven't heard any complaints from any of our friends either and we've all ordered several different things off the menu. It's making me hungry just thinking about it! The Chinese dishes are pretty good for the most part, the sushi that I have tried is mostly bland, and I would only get it because it's close. Better to drive to Layton and get stuff that tastes more fresh. Any if the Chinese dishes taste similar to one another like they all use the same base sauces. Food is good - service is fast. Not huge portions for the price. Love the eggrolls and sweet and sour sauce. Potstickers are good, but the dipping sauce is bitter. Pon Pon Chicken is NOT spicy. Uses "filler" veggies (onions, cabbage, bamboo shoots), but very light on broccoli, carrots and little to no zucchini. Teriyaki chicken was good and made a specialty garlic chicken for my husband since it's not on the menu. Haven't sampled the sushi. Very friendly service. read more

Last nights dinner. We ordered to go but while I was there noticed that there are lots of comfortable booths and a few tables. It was clean and inviting. I ordered two entrees, two appetizers and two sushi rolls. The chicken entrees, orange and Syracuse, were both very tasty, a very good sized portion, very sharable. The appetizers, egg rolls and veggie tempera, both fried perfectly. The sushi rolls are the only reason I am not giving a 5 star. While I know the California and Tuna rolls are basic rolls, I have had ones that have a bit more flavor to them. Not sure what was missing and they weren't bad tasting, just a bit too bland for me. Went here with my niece because she likes orange chicken. First off the place looks dirty, and the energy is just weird. It's almost like they haven't made it their own after the previous tenant. I decided to order a sushi roll with our meals because that would determine my opinion quickly. We told him what we wanted and that I would order sushi in a sec. He went back, dished up our soup then came back to get the final order of sushi then went back then came and brought our soup. By then it was cold. He then went to make our food. He hadn't combed his hair so it makes me wonder if he even bathed. We ordered orange chicken and sweet and sour chicken. The chicken was different. The strips were strips for sweet and sour and more circular for orange. To me prepare the same chicken and throw on different sauce. Mine wasn't yummy but my nieces was. Orange chicken was the good one. The rice was very different. They had kari out soy so the awful rice couldn't even be masked with salt. Low budget = horrible soy sauce. I wouldn't order it again. I ordered a Syracuse sushi roll. It was very rice filled and flavorless. Before I took a bite I looked at it and thought yuck. My niece liked it but I didn't. I don't plan on returning. I am not a fan of the workers gawking at us from a different table. Go in the back. Talk to your wife. We will be done eating soon.
