We went for the closing weekend, heard this place has been an iconic staple in the area for twenty years?! The food was incredible!! This location will be dearly missed and we are hoping for a new location to open soon. The favorite was the walnut shrimp, crispy and in a cozy savory sweet sauce. Disclaimer: I'm Asian so I have a higher standard for Asian food. But from what I had here, it isn't even great for American Chinese food. And I'm really puzzled by the high ratings of this place here on Yelp. I had the sautéed beef, which is listed as "Sa Ti" on the menu, so when it was brought out and announced as "sautéed beef," I was a bit confused. While the vegetables were decent, the beef was tough and from the flavor was a cheap cut. The hoisin sauce was not thick enough and a bit too runny like maybe water added.(?) This also made the flavor weak. After the first disappointing bite of beef, I only picked at the vegetables. I didn't finish it nor did I ask for a take home box. In my opinion, looking over at the people at my table (I was at a club meeting), everything looked on the cheap side. They all seemed to enjoy their meals, though. The portions are huge, so you'll get a lot of mediocre food. The service was OK. We were a large party of about 45. They knew beforehand we were coming. We noticed that even though our table was first to order, we were one of the last to get our food. One person at our table got her food significantly later than we did. There was one table that still didn't have their food when we got our checks. Water refills were never checked and neither was my soda. The Dr. Pepper was good... 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Entering the restaurant, it smelled good like fresh food instead of stale cooking oil. The sesame chicken was the best we've ever had, delicately crispy with tender bits of meat. The hot and sour soup was also the best we've ever had with just the right balance of flavor and delicious aroma. We also enjoyed the Kung Pao chicken and the appetizers (breaded shrimp, egg rolls and cream cheese wontons). Sadly, new building owners doubled their rent so it's impossible to stay in business. They will close their doors permanently in April. We will try their Sandy location and if the food is this good, we will drive the distance for their excellent food and good service. read more

Came here with a coworker for a lunch meeting. We hadn't had the opportunity to review the menu so I asked the waiter to give us a moment and the rest of the time there the waiter wouldn't look at me. The food on the other hand was fantastic! We had the Bo Bo Platter to start with, which is great if you want an appetizer but don't know what you want. Then I had the Mango Chicken. I enjoy this dish as it is lightly breaded. Joy Luck is a hidden gem and there is no place better to go with your whole entire family. The food is delicious and they can accommodate all kinds of allergies and preferences from gluten to vegan. The portions are big, the variety is abundant and the owner remembers everyone and treats them like family. I really appreciated that the chicken was actually spicy for me. It would definitely order the spice level again since I like spicy food. The chicken was a little tough to eat because it was so crispy on the outside. The sauce on the chicken had a really good flavor- it was more of a spicy and sweet sauce. We've been getting take out from Joy Luck for years! They are hands down some of the best egg rolls I have ever had consistently. The cream cheese wontons & the fried pot stickers are crispy and delicious. The fried rice is good, the cashew chicken, beef and broccoli are all pretty standard. A great local business to support. The staff is always very nice and friendly. The Thai tea is usually a hit or miss. Sometimes they make it too sweet but when they make it well it is hands down the best Thai tea in town. Came here for lunch on Saturday about noon. The restaurant was empty when I was seated, but a few families came in during lunch. I had the hot and sour soup, which was good. I added on cream cheese wontons, which were okay. Sandy location seemed to make theirs from scratch, which rocked. I then had the lettuce wraps. They were kinda tasteless. The sauce was a mix of ponzu sauce. A thick plum sauce or any thick sauce to help keep everything in the wrap would have been great. The sauce just ran out of the holes in the lettuce. I'm really sad to leave this review as someone who's grown up eating here. Something has changed significantly. It now tastes like over cooked dry, chewy chicken and watery sauces. Like you made enough sauce for 8 people but had to water it down to feed 30. We had 8 kids to feed including hungry teens and every one of them remarked that it wasn't good. Our youngest that likes Chinese food, brought back his full plate and asked me for a piece of toast instead. That's pretty bad. The pot stickers were good and honey walnut shrimp was too. Everything else was extremely chewy and dry we had to toss it. The noodles were soggy with very little flavor. It all tasted the same except for the orange chicken which tastes like sunny D with spice. We got take out so I'm sure it sat for a bit, and I know that doesn't help, so it's likely better in the restaurant (I gave an extra star to account for that). It's fairly priced, but I couldn't eat here again. Super bummed. read more

This place was a really good surprise. I saw some of the recent poor reviews and was hesitant about this place but really had the opposite experience. I really thought the food was yummy, generous portions, and inexpensive overall. Our waiter was in training, and despite that, our service was really good. I especially liked that not everything tasted salty, which can happen at lower quality Chinese restaurants. Despite the recent poor reviews, I think this place is definitely worth a shot and it makes me sad that other's did experience the quality of food that I did. read more

Consistently good. The salt baked ribs are amazing. I'm a big fan of their hot and sour soup which is very important to me. Their service is always fast, or as fast as possible, given how busy they usually are. Tangerine chicken - so good! More orange flavor than the typical sweet-and-sour, and not as cloyingly sweet - a very nice change. Shanghai Noodles - could really taste that Chinese Five Spice, yum - might be my new noodle standard. (Had this dish recently at P.F. I eat there a few times a month and he remembers my name, knows my favorite entree, when we chat about what's going on, the next time I see him he remembers what we talked about and follows up...who does that!?! My sister has celiacs, and they were very accommodating to make things gluten free, and many things were naturally gluten free! The General Tsao's chicken is unmatched, and the cream cheese wantons are SO good. We did the "classic family dinner" and it ended up being about $17 per person with tax and tip. This is my sons favorite restaurant. It's very good authentic Chinese food. Large portions and everything Jack always cooked well. The food is good and the service is great. Bella was our server and she was very sweet. I couldn't decide what I wanted, so I let her surprise me with whatever she thought was good. She picked her favorite meal for me. I think I made her feel bad because I had anticipated something with a sauce for the rice and she selected more of a satay. It was good, just not what I expected. I really didn't mean to make her feel bad because I absolutely encouraged her to choose for me. I hope her manager understands that. I think it didn't help that we didn't eat much of it, but we had been taking on the way to the restaurant that we had a problem with breakfast before going to Arches in the morning. Our restaurant didn't have breakfast, and we needed to find a protein and it dawned on us the satay would be perfect. I hope this review helps show I wasn't upset. I have been meaning to try this place for a while now. We were a medium size group ; they accommodated in a very reasonable time . Menu was very diverse, we ordered starters and dinner family style . Egg drop soup was very good and a must have if u visit this place . Singapore noodles were awesome , it the Peking spare ribs were definitely the most memorable. The Lemon chick was in large flat pieces that was supposed to be breaded but definitely not your traditional Chinese breading. The chicken was so tough I could hardly chew it much less swallow it. The Lo Mein was just spaghetti noodles and lacked any decent flavor. Shrimp tasted like it'd been frozen too long. Won't be back anytime soon. read more
