I've heard about this place from family and a few friends but had never been in so my girlfriend and I were in the area and were craving Chinese, so we thought we'd give it a try. We were not disappointed! They have a very affordable lunch menu offering all the favorites. I had the number two which was chicken wings, boneless spareribs, and fried rice which was all heavenly. I don't go into crazy details because I have a life and being an Elite yelper is not it. I DO highly recommend China Garden though however. Lunch for two was $18 with plenty of leftovers. You can't go wrong. We can't wait to go back.

This place is probably one of the best chinese take out places i've been in a while. Its surprising to see a chinese take out place that is rated more than 3 stars with over 10 reviews. Surprisingly a lot of people order from this place, so it must be pretty good I got what seems to be their specialty. I got the #18 which came with fried rice, egg roll, 3 chicken wings and 2 spare ribs. First of all the fried rice that usually comes with take out restaurants taste like shit. They are usually hard and tasteless. This fried rice was actually very flavorful and quite soft, which always makes a meal more enjoyable. The chicken wings were hot and sizzling when i ate them which you know they make them fresh. Now time to try the spare ribes which was the bread and butter of this restaurant. What i imagined it to be was tough to chew and tasteless, what it actually tasted like was very flavorful, tender, and sauced! It was very pleasant to eat and chew. Never really tasted anything like this but it was something worth paying for. The place is cash only so i recommend you having enough cash before you come to this place. With that being said, this place is def worth coming back to and trying other things on their menu.

I enjoy American Chinese food occasionally and usually I'll just want some appetizers and takeout and China Garden is the place to go. I've been coming here fo take out for as long as I can remember my friend used to own a bar around the corner and it was guaranteed At least once a week back in the day now the bar is gone I've stopped drinking and cut back on the once a week Chinese food. But I gotta tell you it's always delicious it's always the same it's always fresh and this is dating back years it's no wonder they're always busy. I get pretty much same thing give or take usually all appetizers like this time however I've gotten dishes which were always terrific so you cant go wrong with anything dishes or appetizers. On this night I got boneless spare ribs I like them a little burnt got couple orders Pee King Raviolis couple orders Chicken Fingers and large order egg rolls. I get extra hot mustard and duck sauce. Everything is prepared right in front of u kitchen is wide open it's clean and I like that u can see everything plus over all the years I've never had a bad meal not 1 single time that's a lot of meals. If your looking for American Chinese takeout you will definitely be happy that's for sure

I thought I should share this "compliment" I received from, Yelp User, Narin Nhem. Thanks Narin.

Can someone explain to me why this place acts like Duck Sauce is made with flakes of gold and can't be given out ??!? My husband and I ordered from here at least once a week. I guess it was out of habit since their food is exactly like every other Chinese place in Massachusetts. After last night I will never order from here again. I got my usual Pork Fried Rice and Scallion Pancake. My husband decided to try something different from his usual and ordered some beef and broccoli dish (did not look appetizing to me). I went to get my plate out after the food arrived and realized there was no Duck Sauce. Are you kidding me? It is bad enough when we usually get it the container is filled half way so I have to be careful not to use it all at once so I can have some for my leftovers but now there is NONE? No, but we do have 2 different kinds of soy sauce and spicy mustard!??! Great! I can't eat pork fried rice without duck sauce. Do you know what this pork fried rice is without the duck sauce? Dry and disgusting. I am really mad, my dinner is ruined. I call the restaurant and tell them they forgot the duck sauce. The RUDE MAN on the other end of the line tells me that they only give us duck sauce if we order an appetizer. WHAT?!?!? I have been eating Chinese food for 30 years and now you want to make up your own rules about duck sauce and when you do and don't give it out??????? I said, I have Scallion Pancake right here, where is my duck sauce? He then says, no you need a different appetizer. This is insane. I will tell you what he should have done. He should have apologized for forgetting the duck sauce and told me that they'll send some out the next time the delivery driver goes out. Instead, he argues with me about DUCK SAUCE to the point where we will never order from them again. Lets see... about $40 a week, (plus my husband always tips very well so tell the delivery driver you're welcome) $160 a month, $1920 a year. Because you just had to keep your duck sauce. Good luck to you. I would also like to mention the "compliment" I received from Narin that I have posted. I wonder if this Narine works at China Garden, is possibly the rude man on the phone or is somehow related to someone at this place but I think it speaks volumes on the type of people this restaurant associates itself with. I am glad I have enough self esteem as to not take your petty comments to heart, however, you should realize that diabetes is not a joke and it doesn't only effect heavy people. Please educate yourself and know that by calling people names on Yelp because you don't agree with their review, really does not reflect well on you or the business.

A little above average. -- Spare Ribs on the bone: Painted on every surface with a nice char to complement the glaze. A thicker cut than most. Just like last time, they looked like a reheat, but still had very good texture (tender, moist) and decent enough flavor. Above average. -- Pork Egg Foo Yong: A trio of thick patties flooded with light brown sauce. Good crispness underneath. Soft and tender with big chunks of pork that wasn't dried out. Good overall flavor from the fry, the onions, and the pork, as well as the sauce. Near-elite to elite. -- Kung Pao Chicken: A little different here, with much larger shreds of chicken, a little darker than most, less celery and peanuts than most, a profusion of peppers, and pleasing spiciness to the soy-based sauce. Very enjoyable. Above average to well above average. -- Peking Noodles: A little different, and in a good way. More of a fine shred than a crumble, much spicier, and a little gloppier. Good feel to the egg noodles. I don't get this dish often enough to compare, but I enjoyed it. No OMG moments, but no complaints. Solid lunch, flavorful entrees, and I departed with a higher opinion than before. Upping to 4 stars.

The minion bao did not have the proper decorations. It did not look like a minion. 3. The durian swans do not taste like they use real durian. Got a large variety of dim sum items and it all came out pretty quickly. My favorites were the chicken feet, tripe, shrimp and chive dumplings and salty egg yolk charcoal lava bun! The steamed tripe was super flavorful in a ginger onion sauce and all the shrimp items were really great with plenty of filling. We got both the regular steamed salty egg yolk lava buns and the charcoal one and I have to say, you gotta get the charcoal buns as the filling is way more flavorful and has that runny, ooey gooey texture I love! Parking can be tricky in downtown Malden but there is a parking lot in the back or metered street parking if you can find a space.

Friendly service. -- Chongqing Style Spicy Chicken: The classic dish with as many red chile peppers as bite-sized chicken nuggets. Smaller pieces than most, but crisp without being dry, and full of flavor even beyond the spice. Solid. -- Crispy Fried Pork W/ Sweet Sour Sauce: This isn't your daddy's old school Chinese American sweet and sour, and that's a good thing. But first, the pork: thin, flat slices with an even thinner batter reminiscent of tempura-- so light and crispy it crackled like broken glass. The sauce had syrup consistency, golden color instead of the old school red, and more sour than sweet. A spectacular dish if you like sweet and sour, and a good one even if you don't. -- Sautéed Pork Belly with Hot Pepper: Firm slices of pork with so little fat you can eat the whole thing without inspection. The hot peppers weren't so hot, so while this was enjoyable as a simple pork and vegetable dish, it had no spicy flavor pizzaz suggested in the name and evident in similar examples elsewhere. On the other hand, it did have pleasant black bean flavor. -- Sautéed Shredded Beef With Long Horn Pepper: Numerous slivers of tender beef with more of an understated thin gravy than sauce, with the peppers crisp but not that peppery. Mild but substantial. Bonus points for all of the following: - The server coming back and double checking to make sure we still wanted a dish we ordered after letting us know it was cold. - A tablet on the table with the menu showing photos of every dish to assist in ordering decisions. - A municipal parking lot across the street. - Cute branded takeout bags.
