Return Sunday lunch visit, repeating three items that were good the previous time and trying two new ones. I forgot how swanky looking the place was, and that still impressed. -- Egg Rolls: Cradled in a wicker basket, crisp on the outside, celery, and pork on the inside, a bit dry, but good flavor. A little above average. -- Spare Ribs on the bone: Painted on every surface with a nice char to complement the glaze. A thicker cut than most. Just like last time, they looked like a reheat, but still had very good texture (tender, moist) and decent enough flavor. Above average. -- Pork Egg Foo Yong: A trio of thick patties flooded with light brown sauce. Good crispness underneath. Soft and tender with big chunks of pork that wasn't dried out. Good overall flavor from the fry, the onions, and the pork, as well as the sauce. Near-elite to elite. -- Kung Pao Chicken: A little different here, with much larger shreds of chicken, a little darker than most, less celery and peanuts than most, a profusion of peppers, and pleasing spiciness to the soy-based sauce. Very enjoyable. Above average to well above average. -- Peking Noodles: A little different, and in a good way. More of a fine shred than a crumble, much spicier, and a little gloppier. Good feel to the egg noodles. I don't get this dish often enough to compare, but I enjoyed it. No OMG moments, but no complaints. Solid lunch, flavorful entrees, and I departed with a higher opinion than before. Upping to 4 stars. read more

Dined at the Medford location last night and was pleasantly surprised ... After a horrendous experience at thier Everett location a few years ago ( check my review ) , I was a little hesitant to try thier new location. And though it wasnt without a couple of hiccups , Im giving the new location a solid 4 stars ! The new location is immaculate and seemingly newly renovated ! The wood floors were gleaming , the open space was very well kept and even the bathroom was clean / orderly ! We ordered the pu pu platter for 2 , pineapple fried rice ( presented in an actual pineaple split in half ) , sesame beef and the food was exdellant !! So why only 4 stars .... Well , I wasnt crazy about the hot and sour soup. I expressed my displeasire to our waitress. She apogized and took it away ( yet it still wound up on our bill) . In thier defense, I'd taken a few sips of the soup and it was only $6 bucks so I let it go . Further, our drink orders took awhile to get to our table ( but once I again I gave them a pass because it WAS busy evening . Im mentioning these things now because they took away from our experience . In closing ( and despite those hiccups ) I'll be back and I encourage you to check it out too ! read more

We were looking forward to trying this place. Now we'll never, ever go back. Friday at 5:45 isn't exactly rush hour but our two drinks took 30 plus mins to hit the table I only wish I was exaggerating. I asked the waiter where they were after 15 mins. He said bar is busy. Our food came out shortly after but still no drinks. A full 15 minutes later I got up looking for him and stood by the kitchen waiting. Finally i had to ask a hostess for help. She got the drink that had been sitting. I had to physically get up a second time to accost the waiter and beg for takeout boxes and our bill. Service was a negative 10. Food was ok but nothing special enough to get rid of the bitter taste of horrendous service. Avoid. read more

Nice place, first time here. Old Tiki Island spot. We got way to much food, but that's common at Asian restaurants. I got a sushi roll. It was fresh & good. We got a pu pu platter for 1, MO shi chicken, beef & pepper, chicken lo mein. Took a lot home but every thing was good. We will be back. read more

Ho Win Palace is such an awesome addition to Medford! There is ample parking and the restaurant has a lovely bar and great atmosphere. All of their food and drinks are very fairly priced and they have excellent lunch specials, sushi, and classic chinese dishes. The chicken fingers, boneless spare ribs, hot & sour soup and pan fried noodles were awesome. Our server was absolutely fantastic as well. Definitely give it a try! read more

We're always looking for a go-to spot for Chinese. This place does the standard American Chinese food staples well. Pork fried rice was tasty and fresh though on the greasier side. Boneless spare ribs were well cooked, not dry. The teriyaki beef had a kick of curry which was nice. The chicken wings were just ok. I love this place. I've tried many dishes here and I haven't had a bad one yet. General Gau, Sesame Chickecn, Orange Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Beef Fried Rice, Egg Roll, Lo Mein, all have been fantastic. Everything is fresh and you don't get that awful feeling sometimes after you eat Chinese. I've tried Chinese food from different places in the area and this is my favorite. It's a fairly new place so inside has been remodeled and they have a nice bar if you want to sit at the bar. The staff is always very friendly and greets you with a smile. Can't recommend this place enough. It's my go to place for Chinese. read more

Definitely found our new favorite Chinese restaurant! We ordered the Seafood Combination, General Gau's Chicken( best we've ever had) and Singapore Rice Noodles with Shrimp. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Plenty of creative cocktail options to choose from. The Scorpion bowl is a sight to behold. Sammie our server was wonderful. I can't say enough about Ho Win!! We have had family parties in the back function room to eating here at least twice a month! The food and staff is just so amazing. Always so fresh never a bad meal. We did a take out at this restaurant today and were pleasantly surprised. we have never been the biggest fans of the other Ho Win but decided to give the one a try. The food came out very quickly and was delicious! The sushi rolls tasted fresh and did not fall apart. The place is slightly on the pricier side but we got a lot of food for our money. My "test dish" for any Chinese restaurant is salt and pepper calamari- easy to make ... but very easy to screw up too:) The calamari was up to par. Definitely will be back to check out their Mongolian lamb and the drinks everyone is talking about;) read more

The new Tiki Island is now Ho Win Palace. Ho Win is a big win. It's wicked clean and remodeled very nicely and has a more yuppified look. Admittedly though, I really miss the "old school" look of nostalgic kitschy and cheesy Oriental-theme decor and red pleather booths, etc. But I am Zen with their efforts to update this place. Kudos. The bar is very extensive, and it's stocked with lots of everything -six rows deep of Woodford and many more boozes. They even have a bottle of Louis XIII Cognac front and center and all sorts of fun paraphernalia like a shot-glass Ferris wheel and much more. Classic New England libations are available on the drink menu including the ever-essential Blow Jobs and Woo-Woos. Hats off for this attention to our New England favorites! Service is attentive, prompt and friendly AF. The menu is "the usual" -quite extensive and includes the de rigueur Subgums, Moo Shoes, Kow Pangs, etc. We ordered two Mai Tai to start. Admittedly, they were good and well-presented but were in a tall glass and so they were very unboozy tasting and quite sure they contained only the Massachusetts state-law amount of booze and no more. They do have many types of phun glasses and Tiki mugs for each type of drink. Kudos for that. We ordered 'Goons which were good but I actually prefer a greasier 'Goon but that's just my pref. Moey ordered the Singapore Noodles and I got the Three Delight Kung Pow. Her dish was pissah and she loved it. My Kung Pow was very good and copius but again I prefer the more "old school" Kung Pow which is greasier and more ghetto. Again, this is just my pref. The food here leans towards a slightly more "gourmet" style. I also dig the Ho Win Palace monogram dishware. It's highly Festivus and adds a touch of class and shows that they don't cut no corners. I also got a Hot n' Sour Soup. It was wicked good and was thermally wicked hot which is a big plus. I've experienced cold/tepid soup commonly at many places and it's a big no bueno and speaks volumes about caring or lack thereof. Most importantly, it had the apropos woodear 'shrooms (NOT the Pennsylvania 'shrooms which has become the "new normal" but is unacceptable not to mention wicked unauthentic -and done so to simply save expense). Six bucks was quite reasonable for this good-sized and quality soup. Kudos, again... I will be back to Ho Win Palace. I wanna sample more phood and get a Blow Job too. I was long-time devotee of their predecessor, Tiki Island, which, to me, was the best Chinese food restaurant outside of China Town. I have to say I had trepidations when they were sold, and saw that new management was taking over. My trepidations went away once I learned that it was Ho Win Palace that was taking over. The other location in Everett, after all, is quite good! Now, after my third visit since it reopened, I'm convinced that they are just as good as the fabulous Tiki Island! I've only had take out from here, but I do love what they've done with decor and design of the eat-in space. It's very warm and inviting with a stunning bar area! The food is just as delicious as before and the staff is just as knowledgeable, professional, and kind as they were. They seem to be slightly more expensive than Tiki though. I'll be coming back often. By the way, their Orange Chicken is quite delectable! read more

The food was good, but I wish there was more of it. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken lunch special today and it was $13 with plain white rice and a choice of appetizer. I chose the beef teriyaki as my appetizer. If you want to add fried rice, then there is a three dollar or four dollar charge depending on your protein. The same is true if you'd like to substitute for lo mein. The portion was extremely skimpy therefore a $13 lunch special with plain white rice and the actual entrée is expensive. I may give them another shot because the food itself was actually tasty. Maybe ordering à la cart for dinner will be a better experience. I work hard for my money so to feel like I've been ripped off it's not a good feeling. I really hope that they increase the portion size of the lunch entrées so that I'm not sitting here with almost a cup of white rice leftover once the entrée component is finished. Friendly service. They have a parking lot. It can get a little congested there because the car wash is next-door as well as the gas station. This is the old Tiki Island. Tiki Island had great food with extremely reasonable prices. It makes me more sad that they're gone now having tried Ho Win Palace. read more

Ho win Palace opened last year and I keep coming back. I have been probably 10 times whether it be take out or dine in. Top meals I have had include the Pineapple Fried Rice, wide variety of sushi, and the pupu platter for 1 being my number 1 choice. The Pupu platter is a great price for the amount of food and has amazing large chicken wings. The drinks are also very good, the service is excellent and the ambiance is fun. This was our first time at Ho Win Palace, which replaced Tiki Island, a local favorite of ours. The new owner did a great job sprucing up the place to make it much warmer and more modern! Went to eat with my grandfather today, it was just the two of us. While dining half way through our meal the check was brought to us. We paid in cash with a tip. The server came back to the table and told me he was not going to give me change as he was going to deduct a 5% tip. Gratuity was given but he was not satisfied and took an extra $6 from me. I went last night with my girlfriends and we had such a great experience the owner was a pleasure and fun. The server was so pleasant an unbothered by 6 loud girls throwing questions left and right and requesting a separate liquor tab.
