China Dragon is a pretty okay place for some Asian food. For certain it's not terrible, unlike some other Chinese places around here. It might be the best place for this in Pilsen. Good location by the Pink Line. The place looks kind of sketchy but forget about that and order. Got some items to go. It was lunch and we had to eat later. This was conveniently close to the 18th Street Pink station. After getting off, the order was almost ready. We got the Orange Tofu. It's $7.25 at lunch. This has a stickiness and sweetness. Good for something at such a bargain. The tofu also was firm unlike many of these other places who have this soft squishy kind we don't like. Here's proof Pilsen has more than only good Mexican food. It's better than it looks. Take a train here, get off, then get back on with your cheap meals. read more

The food was mediocre. The chicken teriyaki was not good. It does not taste like teriyaki, it tasted more like fried hard chicken skewer with a light covering of original recipe KFC. I do not reccomend. The cashew chicken had 3/4 inch cubes of vegetables. The carrots were not soft.but rather crunchy 3/4 inch cubes. I have ordered from China Dragon on several occasions but last night was my LAST time ordering. I called my order in and picked it up on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 8:38 PM. I'm writing this review to WARN anyone who is getting ready to order from this establishment: DON'T! I ordered Jumbo Shrimp Fried Rice and added vegetables as they NEVER put vegetables in their Shrimp Fried Rice. I was charged for extra veggies which is fine, HOWEVER, the implication that there is a $3 charge for "extra vegetables" is misleading because there are no vegetables in this dish to begin with. Next, they are pretty closed fist about giving you extra soy sauce. They rudely tell you that there's soy sauce in the bag. And when you ask for extra, they only give you one. But here is the straw that broke the camel's back. I get home and begin eating my food. I take one bite, open my soy sauce and pour it over my food, stir, and then go in for another bite only to find RAT DROPPINGS IN MY FOOD!!!!! It was COOKED IN MY FOOD! I know what food looks like as I am a cook. I know what bits and scrapings from deglazing a pan look like. I know what burnt seasoning looks AND smells like. And THIS wasn't THAT! I put it into the plastic bag my food came in, and I literally smeared it and smelled to be sure. It smelled like FECES!!!!!! I was utterly disgusted! I immediately closed the lid to my food and placed it back in the bag it came in. I called and notified China Dragon that there was rat feces in my food. The woman on the phone asked me for a picture and she said she would talk to the cook. She then tries to tell me that it's soy sauce and that it gets stuck to the pan. I politely told her that that was not soy sauce. It wasn't rice nor was it vegetables. It was rat droppings! She gave me the refund and sent a picture of the voided transaction. One thing I know about Chinese establishments, they are NOT refunding you any money! So for her to willingly refund me, she KNEW they had rats! I will say this again, do NOT eat from this establishment. I have provided photos of my food, the rat dropping, and the receipt below. First thing Monday morning I am reporting them to the Department Of Public Heath! read more

Whenever I'm craving Chinese, THIS IS MY GO-TO!! Great staff, super quick, and most importantly DELICIOUS food! You cannot order takeout without getting crab ragoons, and China Dragon's is not one to miss. Each time I have ordered them, they are always my favorite part of the meal. Go for the 10 piece, which is not even that expensive thankfully(!); you will finish every single one. The filling actually tastes of crab, delightfully creamy, and the shell is a great crunchy contrast. China Dragon's whole menu really is amazing. China Dragon fell out of favor with us. We f**ked with it heavy after moving into our first apartment in Pilsen b/c it was walking distance, and even right next door to my former favorite bar (before China Dragon moved down the street). So it was super convenient. I'm not sure if they got worse, or we just realized how sub par they were once we dabbled with other places. They still make pretty bomb egg rolls though. I can't pin point any specific items but we began to feel gross after every time we ate here. Not food poising severe but just sluggish and slightly nauseous. Their food tends to be overly oily and doesn't taste the freshest. If you live in the area and are looking for local Chinese take out/delivery, I recommend ordering from Happy Panda down the street, which ironically resides in China Dragons former location. read more

I placed an order via Postmates for Happy Panda located at 1343 W. 18th St. It was my first time using Postmates. Postmates never said that Happy Panda is currently closed and allowed me to place the order. I ordered from Happy Panda's menu and via the postmates app on my phone. The food came and it was in a bag that said China Dragon Restaurant. The receipt said the same thing which I found odd but didn't think much of it in the moment. We ate the food, which wasn't great, and watched a movie. This morning I examined the charge on my credit card and looked at the receipt again. It was then that I noticed that address for Happy Panda and China Dragon are completely different. China Dragon is at 1737 W. 18th St. I googled Happy Panda and realized that they're closed. The website just says, "on vacation" and nothing more. There was NO notification on Postmates alerting me that the restaurant is currently closed. So basically, Postmates decided to substitute my Happy Panda order with China Dragon without my consideration. Postmates didn't call to say that the restaurant was closed or to ask if it was okay to substitute my order. That's some bullshit but it's not China Dragon's fault. My order should've been canceled or Postmates should've called to ask me if I wanted to substitute my order with another restaurant. We received all the items on my original order from China Dragon but the food was bland and very disappointing. We didn't really like any of it. The shrimp fried rice and the Mongolian beef had no flavor whatsoever. The shrimp kow wasn't good and made my mom very ill hours after she ate it. She also said the spring rolls were nasty. My sister did like the sweet and sour chicken and I thought the egg rolls were good. There were no free fortune cookies or almond cookies either. They did give ample condiments and plasticware though which was awesome. We all thought the portion sizes were a little small too for the prices. I'll never use Postmates again and won't ever order from China Dragon Restaurant either. FYI - This morning the Postmates app now says that Happy Panda is currently closed. Damn, some of these reviews are savage. I've only ever ordered delivery but I have experienced this place in the dead of Chicago winter, before and after Covid-19, including this week. We have used Grubhub and typically order directly over the phone. One time they gave us a free order of Char Siu pork (delicious) because we ordered like $65 worth of food for 3 people. That's a big spend considering their prices are low and their portions are fair. I order the Empress Chicken. Big favorite in our household. It's a breaded chicken in sauce with a luxurious texture. Highly recommend for a night in. I typically support Chinatown but love to order from this Pilsen spot when I crave that Empress Chicken or Beef Lo Mein. read more

We had delivered: fried rice, sesame chicken, and egg rolls, result of a chance encounter with a stack of takeout menus at Garcia's Liquors ( or whats it called, f&y? b&f, y&r liquors?). Glad we took a chance, we have a new fave Chinese order-in place. The food was NOT heavy with grease, salt, or cloying sauces, and I could taste the individual flavors within the dishes. The take out menu offers the most popular, (for American restaurants) Mandarin, Haunan, Szechwan and Cantonese dishes, with the option of brown rice instead of white, also pad thai, and in the fried rice section, a Mexican fried rice. Printed on the menu is "tastier &healthier Chinese food". I can't wait to try other dishes, their photos look so good on the back of the menu. There is a nice selection (35 dishes/variations)of lunch specials for $4.95, 11:30a-3p that include egg roll and chicken fried rice, and large and smal dishes are about the same as in China Town.
