Egg rolls (has a bit of peanut butter)
    Michelle G.

This place is so good, it feels like exactly what I imagine when people say hole in the wall (I don't love this term or use it often, but here I mean to say it is super lowkey and casual and the food is so delicious). I've been here at least twice and last time we got the egg rolls, pea pods, salt and pepper scallops, and one of the egg foo youngs. Everything was delicious - egg rolls sound basic but I'd read somewhere they use peanut butter and it has a different flavor and it's more subtle than it sounds but so good. I loved the salt and pepper scallops and I'm sure their other salt and pepper items. Egg foo young was good too and especially yummy as leftovers the next day. Service was nice and just what a great meal - my friend and I loved it and I'd come back when I'm in the mood for Good Chinese Food. Also affordable, which we love.

    Egg drop soup yummy

This is always always been my go to in Chinatown. Decided to go there Sunday afternoon me and two other guest were possibly spent $160 in there. Wewere treated terrible I'm not gonna knock their food. Their food is good but as far as customer service, the lady that works behind the register, this lady needs to go to school or take a class in how to treat customers and then I was offended because she told us we had to pay first before we even got our food that was kinda like an insult. I forgot my cousin asked for extra bean sprouts and water chestnuts she gave us a small bowl of them and charged us $10 for them and they were cold out of the refrigerator. I think this lady fell off the bed that day or something she just was terrible. I had to get Up ask for sweet-and-sour sauce, hot mustard. I had to get up out my seat also and ask for more napkins a terrible experience there.

Chinatown staple only worth (IMHO) stopping in if you're in the area for a late night cheap eats. Nice customer service. Unfortunately eggrolls were frozen and the veg ones hardly had any veggies. Crab Rangoons had pink filling, did not like. Chicken Fried rice was good. (No pic)

When I was sent here for orange chicken, I was surprised at the flavor. I was not expecting to taste orange! The sauce was perfect. The chicken was fresh, not over battered and not over seasoned! The next time I order any breaded chicken I would ask for any sauce on the side. I love the crunchy texture and if I could get crunch out of every bite, I would be a happy eater! The steamed rice was very fluffy. The egg rolls had large chunks of pork and nice blend of veggies. The crab Rangoon also had a large amount of crab blended with the cheese which also had a great flavor. This was my first time here and when I'm back in Chicago, I will bring friends and family!

    Heads up!

Our large group was accommodated easily, and we were served relatively quickly after an initial delay while we were waiting for someone to come by. Food came soon after that. We ordered a wide range of things: honey shrimp, beef tripe, pork intestine, Hong Kong style fried noodles. Everything here is solid and delicious. Portions are reasonable too. Ambience is nice, clean, and modern. Only issue while we were here is that some in our group tried to order their baked chicken over spaghetti and they were out of spaghetti. Interesting basic ingredient to be short on here, but rice was not a bad substitute. Would definitely come back here if ever back in Chicago!

The music kept disconnecting and cutting out, completely ruining the atmosphere. If your restaurant automatically adds gratuity for parties of five or more, DECLARE IT CLEARLY UPFRONT. Don't wait until customers are leaving to explain it. We had already tipped, but our waiter actually ran outside to tell us it wasn't enough because it HAD TO BE AT LEAST 18% GRATUITY. Forcing an 18% gratuity after providing terrible service and mid food is unacceptable. Be transparent about your policies from the start instead of putting customers in an awkward situation after the meal.

Be prepared to wait a little bit for a table, or share a big one with another party at peak times. Prices are reasonable and portions are pretty generous. ===== Kind of lost count of how many times I've been. Love getting the dim sum and noodle dishes here. Some favorites: beef cheong fun with egg, siu mai, Singapore noodle, xo rice noodle rolls, spare ribs, pork and century egg congee. All the food has been very solid. Inside is always bustling and can be a bit crowded. Service is pretty friendly as far as Chinatown goes, and very efficient. There's a guy who works there who I think is the manager or something, because he puts in 200x effort and is always hustling. When he's not around it feels like something is missing. Prices are very reasonable and we like ordering a lot here so that we have tasty leftovers for later. This place has quite a few big tables and is good for large groups. My only nits are that very occasionally a dish or teacup will have a dirty spot, and that the bubble tea here is kind of meh. I don't remember exactly which one I ordered, but it was a little watery and lacking in flavor. It's also probably tough since they're boxed in by boba places now. Pro tip: When you first get your table, they'll ask you what kind of tea you want. If you ignore them or don't know how to answer, the default is green tea. Another one is to come at off-peak times. Not only will you get a table faster, but I think they tweak their portion sizes depending on how crowded it is. Definitely will be back! And I recommend you visit too

Communication was a challenge since very little English was spoken, and the descriptions of the dishes were lacking. I don't enjoy gambling on menu titles that sound good but end up being something completely different from what you expect. Some of the more familiar dishes were solid. The Kung Pao Chicken and Mongolian Beef were both pretty good and tasted like what you'd expect from most Chinese restaurants. Other dishes were much harder to understand, even after asking questions about how they were prepared or whether they were sweet or savory. We ordered the Sauteed Chicken in Hot Spicy Sauce Rice, which turned out to be very heavy on Sichuan peppercorns with a strong floral aftertaste. The chicken sat on a bed of what looked and tasted like deep-fried kale, and despite the word "rice" in the name, there was no rice in the dish at all. That's one item we won't be ordering again. We also tried the Fish Filet with Hot and Sour Lime Sauce. It was basically a sweet-and-sour style fish dish. It wasn't bad, but it leaned much sweeter than expected. Another thing to note: none of the dishes come with white rice--it's completely à la carte. We only found that out after ordering. With prices being what they are these days, it would be nice if they included at least some white rice like most Chinese restaurants do. Overall, the food wasn't terrible, but the lack of clear descriptions and communication made the experience frustrating. I prefer restaurants where expectations are clear rather than discovering surprises after the food arrives.

I really enjoyed the lunch special here (I got char siu and pork belly with rice-the char siu was excellent in particular). A couple of notes for next time, though...I felt like the lunch special was difficult to order, and the menu wasn't clear as to how it worked, so there were a couple times I felt like I was about to order a different item, or something that wasn't compatible with the lunch special and I don't feel like that was made clear to me. Additionally, for an order at the counter type place, they specifically press you on the tip and put you on the spot about it. Whether I intended to tip or not (and for the record, I don't think a tip is required at an order at the counter place), I didn't feel comfortable with being pressured, and think the customer service could use some work. Thankfully, that wasn't the case--I enjoyed the meal overall, even if it wasn't a "wow, this is the best meal ever" experience. The biggest surprise for me was the dried chili chicken. I almost didn't order it because so many reviews said it was overly salty and spicy. We asked for less salt, and they were happy to accommodate. I actually thought the spice level was very manageable, and it ended up being one of my favorite dishes. The orange chicken was another pleasant surprise. I expected it to be a basic, Americanized option, but it was delicious and ended up being one of my favorites of the meal. My friends really enjoyed the dan dan noodles, which seem to be one of their signature dishes. Personally, I thought they were good but not particularly memorable compared to everything else. The mango shrimp was tasty as well, but it wasn't something I'd consider a must-order on a return visit. Service was great. The waiter was friendly, accommodated our request for less salt, and we were seated immediately. We arrived about 10 minutes before opening on a weekday to line up, and that seemed to work well. overall a great experience!
