Full disclosure. This is another one of my favorites. It's food is consistently solid, the wait staff treats us great, and the decor is Southwest New Mexican/rustic modern, which works well. Even though their margaritas are delicious, the main draw for me is the BBQ Beef Fajita Burrito. I've tried other things on the menu before, and all of the items were good, but for me, the BBQ Beef Fajita Burrito is Chili Verde's signature dish. A burrito, meant to be eaten by using a knife and fork, is drizzled with tangy BBQ sauce. I don't know why more Tex-Mex places don't do this. Some advice. If you go to Chili Verde on a Friday or Saturday night, you will wait to be seated. This place gets packed, and once you eat there, you'll understand why. read more

Not seeing the great reviews here. They have an extensive menu to choose from as well as a the typical margaritas and beers. This restaurant specializes in New Mexican dishes. Mainly all are spicy, so be careful if you don't enjoy spicy food. The staff immediately serves you with chips and salsa, which I really enjoyed. For dinner, I created my own dish and ordered a tamale and chile relleno. I love chile relleno and I think it speaks volumes on the quality of a Mexican restaurant when done well. The tamale was good. Well cook and tasty. The "Chile Relleno" not so much. It looks like a chile relleno on the plate, but when you start cutting into it, it was this egg batter sort of fluffly. The chile was almost not there. It was not a full stuffed chile but just slices and the cheese tasted like cream cheese. I was very disappointed and could not finished it. I told the waitress but she said that is the way they cook it. The dished was served with rice and beans. Rice was not memorable and beans (to my taste) needed a bit more cooking. OK - no point of saying more.. Margaritas looked very good. Not sure if I will give it another try when returning to the area. read more

Amazing food- it's like I am hanging out with my family from New Mexico! The tamales are tasty and always a good go to. However let's talk about their fry bread- wow, yum, more please! These are amazing and way more food than one person should eat- I manage to find room somehow. I recommend this place to anyone that like a good SW mean, or wants to browse the menu and try something new. read more

A poor excuse for a "New Mexican" restaurant. No real green chile (they serve a watered down tomatillo sauce), no fresh tortillas (they are right out of a plastic bag), no posole, no red chile, no carne adovada, no sopapillas, etc. Instead, they serve basic Old El Paso-type Mexican slop and oddball, made up entrees like a salad with Anasazi BBQ sauce (does anyone think this ancient tribe cooked with sweet BBQ sauce or ate salads?), green chile crab cakes and shrimp fajitas (seafood is not New Mexican), and gluten-free New Mexican rice, whatever that is (FYI: there is no gluten in rice). As others have noted, they have a real over-salting problem in the kitchen. This is basically a terrible Mexican place with a few New Mexican posters and baskets. I am not a local but love this restaurant food. If your middle aged and enjoyed chi chis there is something about this meal that reminds me of the grande burrito. The good: cucumber salsa, perfectly seasoned pinto beans that weren't mushy, shredded beef chimichanga, crab cakes. The bad: a vodka Arnold Palmer with practically no vodka The ugly: a good server who just had too many tables. Wasn't able to keep up. I was impressed with the food, and the portion sizes were large. Large enough that I could only get about halfway through my chimichanga. And our server was very friendly, he just seemed to be a bit overwhelmed with how many tables he had. I lived in New Mexico for years and trust me, this place is not even close to authentic. When I saw crab cakes, Hawaiian fajitas and shrimp on the menu, I expected the worst. New Mexico is landlocked... The core dish in New Mexico is green chile, made from fire roasted Hatch chilies (Hatch is a town in NM where this is grown) and it is used as a sauce (pureed), or as a relleno- a whole chile that is battered, stuffed with cheese and deep fried, or it is combined with pork for a soup/stew. They have these items on their menu but they are weak imitations. They do not offer red chile, which is the second most popular dish in NM. The green chile sauce is watery, too salty and has very little actual green chile in it. The relleno was a dough bomb with way too much batter and the green chile stew was made with beef and tasted like a can of spicy Dinty Moore beef stew, and again, was too salty. These dishes were clearly made with canned chiles (and not many of them) with no roasting evident, and I'm guessing, cheap tomatillos as filler, which are actually green tomatoes. If the name of your place is Chile Verde (green chile), you should learn how to make it. My wife had a shredded beef taco, a shredded pork taco and pinto beans. The meats were dry, and the pork, beef and beans were too salty. Not sure what's up with the oversalting but it is a real problem here. Also, the soft flour tortillas were cold and like rubber. In the end, this is just another strip mall Mexican joint, and an expensive one at that ($9.50 for a tamale, $11 for a breakfast burrito??). Columbus is still waiting for real New Mexican food. read more

I was extremely pleased with Chile Verde. I took my daughter for her birthday, and we both greatly enjoyed our dinners (this was my first time, but she had been here several times before). I was most impressed with the very interesting menu. I had the Green Chile Cheeseburger with a side of Green Chile Mac and Cheese, and loved them both. The burger had an explosion of flavors that all perfectly complimented each other, and the Mac and Cheese had a wonderful building heat, and the leftovers heated up excellently for lunch the next day (I couldn't finish the Mac and Cheese). There are two reasons they get a four instead of a five 1) The quality of the server. I don't know if she was new or what the deal was, but she was not great. She was pleasant and all, but had absolutely no knowledge of the menu. When we asked simple questions, she was obviously guessing at the answers. She also brought us ice cream on the brownie dessert which we indicated we were too full to eat and wanted to take to go. 2) The ice cream on the otherwise delicious brownie dessert was freezer-burnt and basically inedible (of course I took a couple of bites; it was there, after all). Luckily, it was free (birthday dessert), so that's not so bad. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Enjoy! read more

After four weeks, we decided on our first curbside pick-up meal of the Quarantine. We decided on Chile Verde, one of our usual go-to restaurants in normal times. We tempered our expectations, assuming a carry-out meal would not quite be the same as eating in the restaurant and we were prepared for that. Instead, we got a delicious meal that not only exceeded our expectations for a carry-out meal, but was every bit as delicious and complete as anything we've ever enjoyed in a restaurant. They did not miss one detail which amazed us. Since we live about 20 minutes away, we did need to pop the enchiladas in the microwave for just a few seconds. After we did that, we enjoyed the best meal we've had in weeks. And the food was absolutely on time, loaded in the car, and we were on our way quickly. Good work, Chile Verde. This is one of my fiancé and mine's all time favorite go to restaurant. They have delicious chips and salsa and their queso is to die for. Now the menu is more of a New Mexico type of food. It is sort of a mixture of Texas and Mexican food. So they have normal burritos and enchiladas but a twist on them. I usually get the burrito with the mild sauce, and they are still very spicy, delicious but spicy. Another reviewer said they have spicy food, and be warned their food is spicy! The restaurant is clean and the servers are friendly and helpful. They only have indoor seating. You must go to this place. read more

This place merits one of the few five star ratings that I have written. There is something to be said for knowing what you want to be and doing it well and the Chili Verde hits the mark spot on. Straightforward Mexican food that is great quality and served by friendly staff. I recently dined there for lunch and as always it was an awesome experience. Two words: BBQ sauce. (Actually, that's one word and one acronym.) I got a steak quesadilla topped with Chile Verde's housemade barbecue sauce, and it was drool-inducing. Literally, I'm drooling right now just thinking about it. Neither my wife nor I could put our fingers on what was in it that made it so tasty, but we agreed it was incredible. Our waiter told us it has pickle relish and a spice blend. Whatever it was, it made the quesadilla the best one I've ever had by a looong shot, and I'm having trouble imagining a scenario where I ever order anything else here. My wife's choice was a little more pedestrian. It was described to her as a "Mexican lasagna," with layers of tortillas and drowned in cheese. She said it was fine but pretty generic. Our waiter kept us stocked with warm chips and delicious salsa (a spicy red one and a mango pico de gallo). The margarita was pretty decent, too. But it all paled compared to that BBQ sauce, really. Had the navajo taco with spicy beef. Pretty good but it is not crunchy like a tostoda. The staff was wonderful all around. The green chili is way too hot for my gringo mouth. The mild salsa seasoned with something i forgot was really good. The salsa woth the chips was quite good too. The chips came out a little bit warm, but not warm enough. We went to Chile Verde last Wednesday that polaris and although they are supposed to be open until 9 PM we were immediately suspicious upon pulling into the parking lot but there were no cars. The shades were all drawn and the door was locked at 8:30 PM. No sign on the door saying "gone fishing, out of business" nothing! We drove from North Westerville specifically to eat there it was very frustrating to be let down. Chili Verde may be small, but it packs a big punch. I have been here for lunch several times and am always pleased. I usually get the Uncle John's Fajitas, which is a big pile of chicken and veggies, without all of the rice, beans, etc. that normally comes with fajitas (and sits uneaten). Piping hot, super fresh. Yes, please. I've also had enchiladas, guac, soup... All good. So glad my friends suggested meeting here for dinner. The menu is full of New Mexican awesomeness! There were lots of good choices, so it was hard to pick exactly what to get. Luckily, they have build-your-own combos. I did a three item combo, choosing a tamale, chili relleno, and crab cake. I was a little wary of eating a New Mexico style crab cake smack dab in the middle of a landlocked state, but it was delicious! The tamale was average, but then again, when you've had Cactus Pear (in Cincinnati) tamales, everything else is. The chili relleno was one of the best I've ever had. The green chili sauce that I had on top of it and the tamale was great. It was very spicy, but still maintained a nice flavor. I almost forgot, the queso appetizer I ordered was also very good. They put a bit of pico de gallo right in the middle of it, which gives it a nice fresh taste. The atmosphere of the restaurant is decent. It's a bit dimly lit, but it's pretty quiet and the friendly staff was very accommodating of my friends' 9 month old boy. Despite being new, our server did a nice job. Probably the only downside to the place is the beer selection. They had all the standard Mexican options, and that was about it. Luckily my friend saw a small sign on the way in that said they had Ithaca Flower Power as a special. Too bad I didn't find out until I was ready to order my second beer, as the server never mentioned having it. This place is by far the best Tex-Mex restaurant in the city. The wait staff has always been friendly and knowledgeable and now allow me to begin with the food... The Green Chile Cheeseburger and seasoned fries are the bees knees! My wife salivates at the very thought of our next sojourn there so that we may feast on the deliciousness that abounds. I personally love the Tequila burrito with extra tequila marinade and a side of the Anasazi barbecue sauce. The flavorings of the cuisines are completely delectable. It is very unlike a traditional Mexican cantina such as El Vaquero or Abuelos. The spices and flavors are just extremely delicious. I was a first timer so I got a sampler and not just dropped off but a kind server to explain every little sample dish and then it was ON! I tried the fish taco, not to my liking but not bad. The chile relleno - DELICIOUS!!! The chips were good (not too salty) and the salsa was killer like pico and fresh fresh fresh. The beans were tasty and the green chile sauce took me back to cruisin thru Albuquerque. I am hooked. The next visit will be new things as they have caught my eye and I cannot wait!!! read more

This is one of those nice surprises sitting next to Noodles & Co. in a strip mall. Relaxed and somewhat typical decor for a nice family Mexican restaurant. The people are friendly, attentive and quick. I had the Signature SantaFe which is a super flavorful rice plate with shrimp, chicken and steak fajita meat, onions and peppers. They don't skimp on the meat or the flavor! The complimentary chips and salsa were good too. The salsa definitely not poured out of a jar. Prices are good. Most entrees running low to mid-teens but portions and flavor well worth it. read more

I had to come back after my first visit to try a few new items. I started off with the crab boules and they were great. The breading was crisp but dense and there was plenty of crab in the filling also. The crab was fresh and moist. I had the traditional chimi with green Chile pork for my entree and it didn't disappoint. The pork was moist and tasty and the inside was packed! They definitely didn't skimp here. I had another great experience here and will be back once again. On top of the food quality, I went on Cinco de Mayo and they were appropriately staffed. They need to take the salt away from the cook. The food could have been very enjoyable as you could see that it just was over salted. I spoke to server and she ignored me.
