So I've heard so much about this place and I finally got around to trying it because I heard so much about certain fries they serve here which I wanted to try. I came with my brothers whom they got the 2 for 7 tacos and a burger and fries. Not sure if the fries my brother got were the famous ones but they were nasty! Everything else they got was pretty good. Now my self I got the race bowl which was awesome! I also got queso and chips and a drink all adding up to $18 freaking dollars after tip... That's my complaint about this place, I knew it started as a food truck so I assumed it was cheap(my own fault I know) but also the limited space in here sucks. As soon as I discovered that there was a brick and mortar location, I made plans to go the next day. Came here on Saturday right at noon. They were about half full, but it got busier as I waited on my to-go order. I was disappointed that they didn't offer their burritos (which have been my favorite for years) and with the length of time I had to wait on my to-go order (at least 15 minutes.) I will make a point to call in my order next time. The food was totally worth the wait. I ordered kimchi fries with bulgogi, bulgogi tacos, spicy pork and spicy chicken tacos, and 10 wings/k-pops 1/2 and 1/2 of the flavors. EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. I felt like it was consistent with the quality of food the food truck serves. I saw that they sell Austin East Ciders, regular beer, Korean beer, and wine. What are they perpetuating an Asian myth where the meat is too small for the bun?!? It was mostly bun and small meat, so really couldn't really taste the ribeye. I'm an Asian male and my meat is more than adequate and can fill a good size white bun!! It's all in the proportion. Restaurant space is small so you may have to wait during prime time. One of their new items are their wings!! I got the wings in gangnam sauce which has a kick of spicyness. Highly recommend!! Like their food truck, you can't go wrong with their bulgogi burger or kimchi fries! My friend ordered a breakfast bowl...there wasn't that much food so i don't think that was worth. This place defiantly lived up to its name. Usually, food truck food places like this are overated, however, this one was not. We orders the K fries, kimchi fried rice balls, a rice bowl, and tacos. Everything was flavorful and delicious. If you drink, it is the best hangover food. We were eating this for lunch and you could say it was on the heavy side, but the flavors were there. I actually came here quite awhile ago, but never did a review for it until now. The first time I came for a snack, so the only thing I've actually tried here is their kimchi fries. It's been awhile, so I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the toppings consisted of ribeye beef (you can pick from several choices of meat or tofu), caramelized kimchi, onions, cheese, sriracha, and cilantro. There's a lot of hype about these fries and I'd say it met my expectations decently well. I don't love them, but I'd definitely want to go eat them here and there. They're pretty good, but kind of heavy since it's loaded with so many toppings. Can I just take a moment here and say that although I did like these fries, I always wonder why they're called kimchi fries. Yes there's kimchi in it, but I feel like at Chi'lantro and other places that have these kinds of fries, there's really not that much kimchi in it? I feel like the cheese and sriracha always just overpowers most of whatever kimchi is in the dish. It's just puzzling that most of the spice comes from the sriracha when there could be enough spice coming from the kimchi if there was a decent amount of it. It's been awhile though since I've had kimchi fries anywhere so my memory could be a bit fuzzy, but that's what I remember from most of my experiences. But anyways, I've heard good things about their other items in the menu and I'll definitely try some of them the next time I come here! read more

Okay. The workers are really friendly and cool. They get a 5/5 for being personable. But the food...the food. Imagine chipotle with kimchi and bulgogi. That is basically this place. My friends and I got almost one of everything on the menu except salad. We tried every meat too. And we all agree that the only things to eat here is tacos. The rice bowl is NOT like bibimbap. It is like salad with hot sauce, kimchi and corn. I personally think they put way too much pico dear gallo and the rice is soaked in it. Its all personal taste. They DO give a lot of meat on the food though. And the kimchi fries are too overwhelming with the sauce for my taste. So I just ate off the bottom and dipped into the sauce. It was Mich better. But my friends liked it so to each their own. The place is also dirty. Since it is so packed the tables are cleaned every once in a while but not enough. Even for someone like me who can't do spicy. I took that taco down like a boss. I would like more drink options, but hey, I should drink more water anyway! The service was great. Since the first time I ate the bulgogi burger and kimchi fries my freshman year of college (4 years ago!!!), I have been infauted with chilantro's quality of food. Burgers have consistently been one of my top choices of entree since I was a kid, so I have eaten more than my fair share of bread-patty-toppings-bread combos. Out of the literally hundreds of burgers that I've eaten, chilantro's easily ranks in the top 5. The perfectly marinated slices of beef paired with fresh garnishes and a creamy home sauce sandwiched between two crispy (but not too crispy) toasted buns should always be a part of your order, and once you get the bulgogi burger you will be singing its praises and dreaming of your next encounter. Between 3 people, we ordered the bulgogi burger, kimchi fries with bulgogi, kimchi fried rice balls, 10 kpop wings (half with the gangnam sauce), and a rice bowl with pork. *This is a good amount of food if you are going for dessert afterwards.* The burger and kimchi fries were delectable as usual. It was my first time trying the other three menu items. The wings were perfectly fried, but the gangnam sauce was too sweet for my personal taste. The rice balls were a bit too gooey in the center, and it lacked any special flavor. I was extremely disappointed with the pork rice bowl. The rice was completely flavorless, there were too many beans that were also quite bland, and there were only a few pieces of pork. I highly recommend AGAINST getting the rice bowls, and the rice balls are just mediocre. read more

As someone who lived years in Korea,I really wanted to like this place. We need good Korean in the 04 and fusion Korean is awesome! However the food is in small portions for a high price point and lacks a good mix/fusion of flavors. The menu is limited and what they do have could be so much more than it is. For $23 I had 6k-pops (half a chicken wing) and two pork tacos with a drink. No sides came with that besides a bland take on Korean pickles and I leaves little hungry and my taste buds craving more. It fees like they took a limited food truck moved it to brick and motor and only increased their prices but not offerings. It's "A-ok" and I fear this place will go the way of its previous tenant. read more

My complaint here is there was nowhere near enough kimchi on them. You had to dig to find it. The wine was really sweet so I didn't end up drinking it. Zero selection and whoever buys their wine obviously doesn't drink it. The rice ball might have been the most interesting flavor combo I've ever had. It was good but really rich; a few bites was all I could do. The kpops - I am not a fan, at. all. I do not get it. Yuck. Overall, I feel like this place is not somewhere that I'll revisit. For a small restaurant, this place packs a big punch. My friend ordered the tacos, and I ordered the burger, along with the kimchi fries and K-Pops (chicken wings). The fries were amazing. There's a little bit of everything for everyone - sweet, salty, savory, spicy. None of the ingredients overpowered the other. The kimchi added a tangy twist to this tasty treat. There's enough to feed two to three people (or one if you're generous). The burger was immense. Despite its size, I finished everything in its entirety, and I didn't feel too stuffed afterwards. The beef/onion combination was juicy and full of flavor. I never thought about using a fried egg in a burger, but it works. The K-Pops, surprisingly, were filling. For their size, my appetite was overwhelmingly satiated. My friend and I ate a total of six, and by the time I was on my last one, I couldn't even finish it. However, like the previous two foods, the K-Pops were absolutely delicious. The coating was finger-licking, mouth-watering succulent, and the meat was juicy and moist. These were some of the best wings I had. On the side note, I tried my friend's tacos. They were light and refreshing. It's not a big meal, but it certainly is satisfying. Overall, I like how the dishes complements the other, no matter what you order. The atmosphere/vibe is warehouse-like, and the restaurant uses a different style of drinks. The only problem was the limited amount of seating, but everything managed to work. Chi'lantro has won me over with its iconic kimchi fries. I think Austin is lucky to have Chi'lantro and I am more than pleased to see that they expanded beyond their food truck. Their Kim chi fries are addicting and the bulgogi tacos were the first menu items to get me hooked. I think the bowls are decent but they don't suit my tastes as well as the other dishes. Maybe there's just a bit too much fusion going on and some of the flavors do not work well together. I do miss the food truck days and believe that the food was better quality then. You can't beat the egg on the Kim chi fries with they unfortunately don't do anymore. Still a great establishment nonetheless. read more

Asked if they had bulgogi fried rice and I was told they didn't have it. But had bulgogi styled meats and steamed rice. Paid $1 extra for 1 little ass egg. Get my food. Get home. And it has all this extra stuff. I showed it to my cousin and his response "it looks like a regular Schlotzsky's salad with beans, rice, and meat". The rice was bland. The carrots were bland. The beef was hard to chew. Yeah I'm never coming here again. It's hardly a Korean restaurant. Just some new age crap restaurant. And they didn't even have real soft drinks.
