Off all the places I got to try during my very short visit to Austin, this place was the best. Admittedly we had trouble finding this place after following a couple of faux directions on the map leading us to no where, we finally decided to call them. Apparently there are no more food trucks and they're finally able to set up shop at numerous locations. The Kim chi fries are worth all the hype and must try we ordered the spicy pork and the chicken one and they were both fantastic! I also enjoyed the honey butter chicken wings along with the sauce that was served with it. The beef tacos were also great. What I didn't like however was their Gangham style wings I thought it was just way too saucy and overpowering along with their chicken tacos. read more

The decor was very cute but there was not a lot of seating available when we arrived. You order up front and receive a table number. The food was good but not anything too special, sort of like a Korean version of Chipotle. The kimchi fries were our favorite and was packed with a lot of flavor. We weren't a huge fan of the wings so I wouldn't recommend those. read more

Parking and restaurant space are both scarce. It's not a standalone restaurant so don't be looking for that when you visit. Expect a wait to get a table on the weekends. Kpops - my personal favorite here! both flavors are delicious and the perfect blend of ingredients for flavor Fried rice balls - not sure what Chilantros is going for with this item, its literally what the name says with a slight kimchi flavor, not impressed at all and felt like this was a waste of money Burger w/ beef bulgogi - on par with the food i'm used to eating from their food truck read more

I first tried Chi'Lantro during SXSW via one of their food trucks parked on 6th street. My experience wasn't too good. The food from the truck was cold and didn't taste fresh (they clearly pre-made everything many hours ago). BUT, I still decided to give the location on S. Lamar a try in hopes that I would have a better experience. The decor is sleek, fresh and clean providing a good ambiance. Servers/ cashiers were friendly. However, the food was just OK for me. We had the bulgogi burger w/ kimchi and the kimchi fries with spicy pork. The burger was messy, literally everything was falling out of the burger (this was before I even took a bite!). The bulgogi is cut into little bite sized pieces and were burnt! And there was a watery red sauce dripping out (I suppose from the Kimchi). That definitely made for a werid combination. So in conclusion = the burger wasn't really that good. The fries on the other hand were much better. Topped with caramelized kimchi, spicy pork and other goodies, the fries was a meal in itself! read more

For some reason, my meal here was not as good as what i had in the truck. The place was packed, maybe my chicken tacos were not as crispy because they were a little rushed. A solid good meal, for sure. With unique flavor that blends Mexican and Korean. But i was expecting better. read more

Woohoo! So glad I gave this another try. I'd have to say my experience at the brick and mortar was much better than my experience at the food truck. I highly recommend: Bulgogi Tacos -- Great sauce and meat consistency. The tortilla was delicious, as well. K-Pops -- These wings are a MUST. They did such a great job of making these easy to eat. The Gangnam sauce was quite tasty. Go and give them a try. Good stuff! read more

I was pleasantly surprised how tasty the food was here. When my friend said she wanted to go to try this fusion, I thought it may be more of a sit-down restaurant instead of order at the register. Either way, the food was really tasty, the sauces were spectacular and I loved that beverage choices were unique (think basal peach lemonade, YUM!). I saw an article about the fries here are some of the best in the country. That was what led me here. Overall the place is good, but I can't say its a must in Austin. I got the rice bowl with spicy chicken and it was good, seemed fresh and the ingredients were good. I can't say they have the best kim chee I have ever had, it wasn't too spicy and didn't have big pieces of cabbage. The fries are good, spicy pork on those. The fries themselves get soggy, that being said the toppings area great, you have to eat with a fork. It was really crowded here, hard to find a seat. read more

Our service was awful during our last visit. We arrived at least half and hour after opening and they still hadn't made the beef (what has to be their primary ingredient for most orders) so the wait for our order was at least fifteen minutes long. To top it off the guy who took my order managed to get it wrong even after I had repeated myself twice to be sure. He never offered me a receipt so I didn't know this until we had already waited much too long. The guy didn't even pretend to care or make it right. Meanwhile my wife and three year old have been waiting all this time for their food--part of which wouldn't be coming. The food is usually good but poor and insulting service will keep me from coming back. If he had offered to make it right he could have saved the situation but he didn't make a move. This company won't survive its expansion in this city if their employees and managers don't care about the people they're serving. read more

After reading many great reviews we decided to check it out ourself. Clean place and great atmosphere. Food came out fast. Never had I had friends with beef and cheese. Very tasty and different. Their Kim chi noodle bowls were a lil but good. read more

I never knew what I was missing until I tried kimchi fries during ACL. Now, I crave them. Who knew topping some fried potato with caramelized kimchi, sriracha, cheddar and monterey jack, onions, cilantro, sesame seeds and 'magic sauce' would create a flavor-explosion. Who knew when I returned to Chicago I would Google, "Kimchi fries Chicago" to get my fix. Who knew an artery-clogging item could be so good I'd think of all those calories as my dear, dear friends. Come on over, dear friends, I'd love to host you for the three minutes it will take me to INHALE THIS GOODNESS. I didn't visit any of the trailers or shops, but the stand at ACL hit the spot. I decided one day to pop in to this place after I tanned on my lunch break because it was close. I have now eaten ther 4 times in the past 2 months! I heard of this place through an episode on Shark Tank! & I'm so glad that I finally went to try their food! Everything we had was so delicious. We tried the wings which were so good! Didn't even need the ranch dipping sauce. We also had the rice bowls & their signature kimchi fries I like how you can customize your rice bowls & pick your protein for the kimchi fries. Overall I would highly recommend this place. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Does the bulgogi taste authentic? No. The esquites? No. Do I care? Absolutely not- the food is great (as well as cheap) and the service is friendly! Over the course of our week long trip to Austin we visited Chi'lantro three times. "Why?" you ask especially since there is a wealth of amazing restaurants in Austin (don't worry, we ate a our fair share of them as well). Because their freaking esquites spoke to my taste buds in ways I can't explain. "It's only corn with mayo and cheese" you say. But it's CORN WITH MAYO (aka "magic sauce") & CHEESE. For me, that puts it right up there with foie gras, Otoro, and Spam as potential last-meal-before-I-die foods. Seriously though, the food here is cheap, good, served up pretty quickly some damn friendly people. In addition the the esquites, we tried the k-pops, rice bowl (with spicy chicken) and the bulgogi tacos. Generally, I steer clear of anything Asian Fusion because I'm a food bigot and find that many who try to combine the flavors of different cultures in one dish usually fail to balance them properly but Chi'lantro did it well. read more

I have eaten at this location several times in the past, and have enjoyed their food as well as their staff's professionalism. Picking up food from this location today (2/23/2021 at 5:30 pm), was not what I expected. As I am picking up the food I stopped to ask a question, before I grabbed all the items to ensure that everything that I was getting was correct, before I walked out of the restaurant. I started walking over to the front counter, and a young black female employee was walking towards me. I was ready to ask her a simple question, and she just rudely blurted out a response that had nothing to do with the question that I was getting ready to ask her. And she spoke in a tone and manner as if I was bothering her. I could understand if I was being disrespectful toward her, but that was not the case. It doesn't surprise me that more and more people are choosing to order their food online, and through apps. And with everything that is going on, the last thing that you want to do is be disrespectful to those that have supported your business prior to, and during the pandemic. Also, there were other customers in there that were sitting and waiting for their food, who witnessed her absolute disrespect towards me. There are other locations of this particular restaurant franchise that I will go and continue to support, here in Austin, but as far as this one...Highly Do Not Recommend. One star! read more

I was craving Korean so badly and this was a perfect fusion of Korean and healthy yet tasty. Enjoli was my cashier person and she was the sweetest and most patient as she helped me pick what to order (rice bowl with bulgolgi and spicy fries). Also got a great local Hefeweizen. The bowl was amazing, the sauces so tasty, and Enjoli always made sure I was okay with my food. I'm coming back ASAP. read more

Love, love, love this place! Every time I come through Austin I MUST stop here. Having been raised in Hawaii, I know what good Asian/Asian fusion food tastes like. As far as I'm concerned, this place tastes like "home"(which is really hard for me to find in Texas). The spicy pork tacos and kimchi fries are my go to items on the menu. The spicy pork has so much flavor and the kimchi fries are fusion perfection! I also love that they serve Maine Root Handcrafted Beverages. Their beverages are SO delicious. read more

my partner got the burger (chicken) and I think he enjoyed his food more than I. I think I may prefer my kimchi a little more chopped.. the large pieces are beyond overwhelming. I went to this location because they had later hours. the staff was nice and the quality of the food, too.. it's just, not my cup of tea, unbeknownst to my tastebuds. read more

Those Kimchi Fries everyone's talking about? Yup - they're the sh*t! Crunchy, spicy, savory, bulgogi-french fry deliciousness. I thought the chicken pops were good, but a tad sweet for my taste. I don't know what it was, but I was underwhelmed with Chi'Lantro in restaurant form. The food was okay, but not as good as it was coming straight from the food truck window. The inside is cute and cozy, but had tons of dirty tables. Kind of a bummer- I brought my bf here and he didn't really get why I wanted to come here so bad. I guess I left thinking that too :/ Hopefully it was just an off day! read more

I got the rice bowl with avocado. My friend got the kimchi fries. We also had the three dip app. Soooo good! There wasn't that long of a wait for the wood. came here for dinner, they still don't have a permanent sign up, so we actually missed it at first, hard to see their small temporary sign in the dark on always busy S Lamar. It it is in the little shopping strip(with the Darque Tan store) across the street from the apartment complex that has the tapas restaurant Barlatas on the bottom. It was me and one other person, shortly after we arrived on a Friday night around 6:30-ish pm? a huge line of people started to form behind us, so we got lucky, because this place is pretty small, and the only place you really have to stand and wait for a table to free up is in the same area where you line up to place your order. awkward They were sold out of a couple things, the entree salad and the dessert, which was a little surprising, not sure of this is a common occurrence for them or not. we shared the k-pops and the kimchi fries, then I got the rice bowl with bulgolgi and my friend got 1 taco. $7 for two small tacos seems a dollar too much, but they enjoyed their one lone taco, said the sauces were really good. the highlights were definitely the k-pop chicken pops and the kimchi fries. The rice bowl was good, but it needed a sauce of it's own, or even just a lime wedge, because it had hardly any seasoning in it other than the seasoning from the meat. I later added some leftover sauce from my friend's taco and the k-pop dipping sauce and it was so much better. Also, we got the k pops with spicy sauce and the kimchi fries with spicy pork, but neither had a lot of spiciness imo. I saw some bottles of Siracha behind the ordering counter, but I didn't think to ask for one, so if you like your asian/mexican fusion food to be spicy, ask for some. definitely a great place to get take out from if you live in the area. Would return for the k pops and the kimchi fries, maybe try the burger which also looked really good. If you decide to some for dinner on a Friday or a weekend, come early if you don't want to wait, there is very little seating, which is the biggest drawback to this place. read more

Delicious Food!!! The Korean Fried Chicken was amazing!!!! Although they said they "ran out" of the spicy flavor in the beginning. The chicken was super crispy and flavorful. The Kimchi Fries are also sooo good! And the bowls are very good too, just depends what you're in the mood for. Definitely a place to check out when in Austin. Self service little place in a strip mall near UT Austin. I believe they have food trucks and other locations as well! Besides them being out of the spicy and having to get the sweet & sour was the only downfall. Would definitely recommend this place still. read more

Many businesses have suffered during COVID Chi'lantro being one of them. Chi'lantro was once a beautiful blend of ethnic food that left the palate wanting more. Those flavors were lost once Chi'lantro cheated the menu to make up for unqualified staff that currently try hard to serve Chi'lantro's dumbed down menu. What's left is a void of flavors with no originality becoming lost amongst the vast number of restaurants serving bowls. read more

Narrow Street 512 serves up Authentic Korean food with a personal touch. It feels like you're eating a home cooked meal at your Aunt's home in Korea. I experienced Narrow Street as a solo diner. My go-to dish I order 90 percent of the time I go there is the Chadol Plate (A3). It is beef brisket. You normally need to go to a KBBQ spot and get covered in a layer of smoke. Skip smelling like a campfire and get A4 at Narrow Street. The beef brisket comes with rice served in a metal bowl. You get 3 or four small plastic containers of banchan the rotates seasonally. There is a variety of different kimchi, fish cake, corn slaw, potato salad and more. Once in a while I like to switch it up and I order the Cold Noodles (F1) or squid and pork stir fry (A4). The cold noodles are refreshing with crisp cucumber, white radish kimchi, and korean pear. The noodles are bouncy with a nice chew. Great in Summer and Winter. The Squid and pork stir fry comes with a bowl of rice and it is quite spicy. It is spicier than average but still less spicy than Thai chili. The chewy squid and pork are nicely complemented with the crunchy stir fried cabbage. Once you taste it you can't stop eating it. The price at Narrow Street very reasonable for what you get in my opinion. It is sit down restaurant quality food in a fast casual setting. You can dine solo or go in a big group as there is plenty of seating at the Hmart Food court. You place your order at the counter and they give you a buzzer to alert you to go pick up your trays of food. The Korean ladies who work there are super friendly and will help you make your menu selection if you have any questions. I've been a dedicated regular since 2023. Narrow Street is my go-to for my Korean food fix!

It's saucy and has a nice play on textures because of the crispy fried bits on top. It is stuffed with a sizeable piece of tuna and has a sweet mayo sauce. It is definitely more fusion leaning rather than traditional. 2. Dak-Galbi - A spicy chicken dish with sweet potato matchstick slices and rice cakes. There could be more rice cakes and flavor. It was not spicy at all, more of that sweet savory taste you get from gochujang based dishes. The chicken was super tender and there was a good amount! 3. Beef Rib Stew - This was a warming stew with glass noodles, it is a basic soup that is salty and peppery (some may think it's bland). It comes with a bone in beef rib that is fall off the bone tender! Overall, while the food wasn't the most outstanding, I would definitely come back to try other items (namely the sushi). I would also love to try the inari tofu pockets I see online (not sure if they still have that though since I don't think I saw that on the menu). Also, their other fusion leaning dishes like the carbonara tteokbokki sounds interesting.
