Oh man, I love this place. As hard as it is to transit through the city, this place is worth circling the block to find parking a few times for. Small in indoor space, I was surprised by the portion sizes. I expected to get a couple of small bites on the plate but there was so much food i almost couldn't finish it. We ordered the Not So Orange Chicken and the Spicy Soy Glazed Double Fried Wings. The wings were great, not necessarily spicy but seasoned and delicious. The orange chicken came with a dipping sauce that was good, but it was the additional toppings on top of the chicken that really set it off. Fooled by the reviews and the photos, we decided to give this place a try. It's more like a fast food restaurant. Think of panda express or Xi an famous. Food was heavy and greasy. We ordered their famous cumin lamb noodle stir fry. Taste was ok but no much noodle and the lamb was very fatty. The bottom of the bowl looked like a soup of oil. Service was ok. Fantastic lamb dish! I walked in after being intrigued by the menu. You order at the counter. Placed was packed. Ambiance wasn't great but didn't matter. They do lots of volume and you can watch chefs cook. Wait staff were friendly and got my order fast. I ordered the lamb in cumin stir fry and quite simply one of the most amazing meals I've eaten in a year. I substituted asparagus for the mushrooms and cooked to perfection. I ordered a spicy cucumber side dish that was super spicy and delicious. I eat this dish frequently and it had this gravy to it and I still can't figure out what that flavor was. I walked out of there a happy man blown away by how yummy the meal was. Lamb was ample and cooked perfectly. Cost was typical DC. Reasonable for the area. Can't recommend enough. read more

I hate de-rating good food for poor service, but that's the fact here. Food was excellent. Tasty and filling. Service was abysmal. I've had better service at Chick-Fil-A. Tables are not waited; you can only order via app, and food is simply brought to you. Among other things, this means a) there's nobody to answer questions about the menu, and b) your water probably will not get refilled unless you go out of your way to flag down the (very busy) server. The water thing was especially frustrating since I ordered a spicy dish. Also frustrating: our appetizer and my dish arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. However, 15 minutes after ordering we were still waiting for my wife's dish. After asking, I was told the kitchen was backlogged with take-out orders. That is 100% UNACCEPTABLE. What an awesome flavor experience! I was blown away by the meal I ordered which came with kimchi, potstickers, and a lamb stir fry. They packed my bowl with delicious kimchi, which I brought home to repurpose into fried rice. The potstickers were tasty and juicy! The dipping sauce was excellent. The stir fry was full of so much flavor - I just failed to read that it was spicy, and spicy it was! I had to drink a lot of water with this dish, but it was so worth it for the flavor in this dish. I wouldn't get it again at this spice level, but maybe I'll ask for less spice. Regardless, there's so much that Chiko offers that I am excited to try. I found the green beans to be a bit spicy, and obviously the bulgogi was spicy but the orange-ish chicken was rather sweet. My wife loved the bulgogi and gave it a big 2 thumbs up. The service is friendly, but I found the Korean Garden Noodles were bland and the dish was too sweet (but also had lots of salt). A couple of other considerations: If you are on your own they have counter service, and so it's great for the solo business traveler. Note the counter is high, so not great if you have mobility issues, but they also have other tables that are regular height. This place deserves all the hype. I ordered the veggie dumplings and the salmon dish fully knowing that it would be a lot of food but also willing to explore the dishes. For the first coldest day of the Fall so far, I was seriously craving something you know....on the comfort food, meaty, noodley....spicy tip! After bouncing around on the decison of a soup, noodle dish or pho.....I settled on Chiko for lunch and a great decision it was indeed. Up the stairs and into a small, unassuming DC townhouse-rowhome, you will find an open restaurant with a unique, curated menu serving simple, but excellent food with fast, friendly service. This is ChiKo's at the Dupont Circle location! The food is Chinese and Korean mixed (hence the name "ChiKo") and very flavorful; including foods with kimchi and the majority of the dishes being Sichuan or wok cooking. I'm partial to the kimchi and not a huge fan. But, there are familiar twist on dishes such "Orange-ish" Chicken as they call it, Beef Noodle Soup, and Smashed Salmon, Spring Rolls, Salads & Wings which will appease to many. This was my first visit and overall I was impressed with my takeout order of just Spring Rolls and Spicy Cumin Lamb Noodle Stir-fry. The spring rolls were were crispy with a great blend of ground chicken and mixed vegetables. The Spicy Cumin Lamb was the highlight of my order. This dish was so tasty! My order was filled with shredded chucks of super-seasoned lamb.....stir-fried with noodles, shallots and spring onions in a spicy sauce. The use of spice, herbs and flavorful ingredients in this dish makes for astoundingly delicious spicy eats with plenty of kick! And, when I say spicy....that's an understatement. You definitely feel the burn and each bite is tantalizingly worth the S&M torture on the tongue. At the suggestion of a staff member, I also ordered the Spicy Sichuan Vegetables and added it to this dish....it was sooo good and heighten the flavor even more! I literally couldn't stop eating this dish and almost drove back to order another serving!! LOL. I also tried the the Double-Fried "Dry Spice" Wings and it was a knockout choice as well. Potstickers are served in a bowl because they are so saucy. Savory. Slices of spicy apples are a lovely touch. So good. Orangeish chicken gets name from candied tangerines which are delicious but need more and they fall to bottom. (Maybe if they didn't dice them as fine, they would not get lost in the bottom of the dish.) But so good. The chicken is fried to perfection, very crispy, with a savory dipping sauce (good, but I wish i were orange flavored). Bulgogi tater tots. Very clever. Great bulgogi on tots with sauce, onions, gooey cheese (what a surprise, damn, it works!). Soy brisket is really corned beef, surprisingly, but it works. It's a sweet and savory, sticky soy glaze. Chiko was one of my favorite spots for a fast and delicious bite in DC, and four years after my first visit, it was wonderful to find that they were just as wonderful as remembered. We stopped in right when they opened on a Saturday and had the place to ourselves. We got the crispy chicken spring rolls, which were crispy, not at all oily, and served with a bracingly sharp mustard sauce. We also got the pork and kimchi dumplings, which were huge - and super tasty. The little apple slices in the accompanying slaw were my favorite bites of the meal. We also made the mistake of ordering two portions of cumin lamb noodles - which were delicious, perfectly cooked, and filled with succulent bites of lamb - but also huge. I was so, so full two bites into the noodles, but they were so good, I somehow made it through 3/4ths of the bowl (and my dining partner made it through the whole thing!). Our meal came out to ~$70 for two people who ordered waaaaaayyyy too much food (I was not hungry until lunch the next day). I was sad to have to forgo the brussels sprouts and half-a-cado salad, both of which I love, but could not have eaten another bite. Service was friendly and the food came out fast. Great dining option in Dupont. Got the Stir Fried Spicy Rice Cakes; Garlic Shrimp Dumplings; Korean Style Potato & Egg Salad. The food was largely excellent. Absolutely loved the stir fried rice cakes, which mixed sliced rice cakes--think a firmer mochi--with onions, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, and gochujang sauce. No meat, but it was a hearty dish with plenty of flavor thanks to the mushrooms and gochujang. Similarly loved the garlic and shrimp dumplings, which were unique in flavor, generously packed with filling, and pan-fried to deliciousness. There were only two weak points with the lunch. One was the Korean-style potato & egg salad, which unfortunately had no egg in it but far too much potato. The other was that the dominant flavors for the menu are gochujang (if you go Korean) or Sichuanese (if you go Chinese). Especially with the lunch combo, that could potentially make for some very one-note meals, as my friend who ordered the Sichuan Spicy Vegetables and Sichuan Hot-Fried Chicken Sandwich found out. That said, the food is excellent, full of wonderful flavors, and a good value. Service is excellent, though a bit slow during the lunch rush. Would happily visit again. read more

I follow Chiko on Facebook and saw their post about entering the chicken sammy market and was super pumped because I heart Chiko. I was actually already planning on ordering the sammy from another restaurant but of course had to give Chiko a whirl! I usually patronize the Barracks Row Chiko but they are dinner only, so I ordered lunch delivery from the Dupont location. I ordered their hot fried chicken sammy combo which came with tots and a soda, as well as a side of the potato salad. The sammy was HUUUUUGE!!! Definitely way bigger than I was expecting! The bread was big and crusty, and the pickled daikon was a nice refresher from the spiciness of the chicken. The sammy was a little wetter than I was expecting but still delicious nonetheless. I loved the tots, especially that they had furikake on them! The potato salad was very yum as well! The meal didn't travel too well as it took my driver over 30min from pickup to delivery, so I'm sure it's even better if you get it straight away from the restaurant. It was super easy to order using the QR code and food came out really quick. -Orange-ish chicken: loved the super crunchy chicken with their special seasoning/salt blend. Even without the sauce the chicken was crispy and tasty! I liked how the sauce wasn't as "Americanized" and as sweet but still retained a good orange-y, citrus-y flavor. -Soy glazed brisket (on rice): the brisket pieces were chewy and juicy. The soy glaze, runny egg yolk, and furikake made this staple dish super flavorful. Wish there was the a higher meat/egg to rice ratio, nevertheless. -Lamb dumplings: appreciated the spicy oil and soy-based sauce and how it complemented the lamb flavors. Absolutely wonderful Chinese-Korean fusion food! Everything about this restaurant spoke to my soul -- from the beautiful harmony of traditional Chinese and Korean flavors, to the laid-back and casual energy of the restaurant, to the incredibly friendly and welcoming staff, every part of my experience with Chiko was practically perfect. I visited Chiko with a friend for a Saturday dinner, and we were immediately seated by the window, which gave us a lovely view of Dupont Circle. It was nearly impossible to decide on what to order, given my own indecisiveness and the multitude of tasty-sounding dishes on the menu, but we eventually settled on the wok-blistered green beans, garden vegetable noodles, and shrimp and toast. They were pretty generous with the portion sizes, so three dishes were definitely far too much for the two of us, but they were just as delicious the next day. The wok-blistered green beans were delightfully smoky and crisp, and they and the ssamjang were like a match made in heaven. The shrimp and toast was also absolutely delicious -- the griddled ciabatta had an amazingly crispy exterior with a light and fluffy interior, and these textures were a wonderful contrast to the springy (and amazingly fragrant) shrimp. Also highly recommend dipping any extra toast you have into the shrimp's sauce -- it was such a flavor bomb! The garden vegetable noodles were solid, but they didn't stand out nearly as much as the other two dishes. The dish was basically a vegetarian take on japchae, a classic Korean noodle dish, but it didn't wow me in the same way that the green beans and shrimp and toast did. We were stuffed, but we saw that their seasonal dessert was coconut custard and just couldn't resist. The custard was rich and delightful, but not overly sweet, and all-around a delightful way to end the meal. The candied almonds and pieces of dried coconut were also a phenomenal contrast in texture, and the lime zest helped to balance out the caramel sauce and custard. read more

When we came to pick up the food we could tell the restaurant had good vibes with cool murals and decor, and I'd love to come back and eat in when I have more time. The food itself was really good. The pork and kimchi potstickers were juicy and very flavorful. The kimchi was interesting because it had fermented apple instead of the typical cabbage, which I really liked. Would definitely order those again. The chilled peanut noodles were good but I think could have used a bit more sauce (although perhaps we just did a bad job scooping all the sauce from the takeout container!). So in the past, I have ordered from the Capitol Hill location, but unfortunately that location does not do delivery to my experience. So I came to the Dupont location and ordered their lunch special, in addition to their orange -ish chicken. For the lunch special I got the Bulgogi hoagie, the spicy vegetables and the dumplings. I would rate the lunch special a 10 out of 10, it was amazing, but beware the vegetables are definitely spicy! And it's a pretty decent price for a good amount of food at $18. I've had the orange-ish chicken before from the other location, and I would say that this chicken wasn't as good. It didn't have as much flavor throughout and it was lacking, it may just be an unfortunate batch that I got, because I know that I do love their orange-ish chicken. Will be back for sure read more

I did not come with high expectations since I did not have a memorable experience on my first visit - however, I only ordered chicken wings back when they first opened. After years of not revisiting, I was pleasantly surprised! The Cumin Lamb Stir Fry dish is their best dish by far. The meat is perfectly juicy and the spices in the noodles are perfect. I also thought their Orange Chicken was very unique and tasty compared to other Asian restaurants because the sauce is on the side. This definitely helps keep the chicken nice and crispy. I tried a couple of other dishes like the Salmon and Short Rib. I noticed their other Chiko locations weren't as consistent/tasty as this DC location. Although their desserts were above average I will probably pass on them. The coconut custard was refreshing and not too sweet which should fit most people's preferences. Can feed about 2-3 people. I feel most people will be surprised by the high prices considering this is a fast-casual experience. I will still highly recommend giving them a try. read more
