I have always had a pleasant, personable experience with Dr. Chika and her office staff is cool but I won't be returning. Granted, adults should remember to their appointment times but when you schedule months in advance, a reminder within 24-48 hours of the appointment is extremely helpful. Considering the snow the area received & the fact that my neighborhood streets had yet to be plowed and were covered in ice, I missed my appointment on Jan. 9th but hadn't received a courtesy call to remind of the appointment since 11/25, the year before. I was to be charged a $45 no show fee. They won't get it and I can visit America's Best and walk out with a free pair of glasses! read more

Somebody is lying in the reviews because this office was a complete waste of my time. I have a 10:00 appointment, they're closed. I'm outside, there's a sign on the door that says "closed". Google says they're open and my appointment again was scheduled for 10 and so why exactly are you scheduling people for 10:00 if no staff is there to open the door. I get in and the receptionist is basically screaming my info across the room so that everyone can hear. I'm noticeably annoyed at this point but just trying to get to this doctor so I try my best to work with her. Let's back track for a min. so when I made the appointment, the same receptionist took my insurance information and said that she would run it and call if there were any issues. I said back that if I don't hear from her, am I to assume that there's no issues. She replied yes and rushed me off the phone. 7 days later with no confirmation, I'm at the appointment and she is calling my insurance on SPEAKER yelling at the dial tone that she needs to speak to claims to verify my benefits. It's 1023 at this point and my patience is thin. She takes another call from a patient, returns to my benefits line and hangs up and reports to me that she tried but that I can call if I'd like. I kindly reminded her that she told that she would do this ahead of my appointment in which she replied that she did and couldn't get through...sooo call again? OR call me like you said you would if you had any issues. That being said, I'm sure Dr. Chika is lovely, but I'll never know when you can't make it past the incompetent front desk and that speaks volumes for your practice. NEW Patients: I'd use caution booking here and Dr.Chika, I'd spend some time training your staff. Watch out for the sales staff. My elderly mother got her eyes checked and asked me to assist her with picking out new frames. Once we found some she liked, the salesperson first assumed she wanted transitions, which those of us who wear transitions know are good in some, but not all, scenarios. I had to explain that my mom had tripped going in and out of buildings on a sunny day because even the best transitions take several seconds to fully adjust to low light. This was annoying, because normally it isn't *assumed* that transitions are desired (especially when they haven't been ordered before). But the real issue came when the salesperson started reading off the pricing for my mom's progressive lenses (low Rx strength, low astigmatism). The salesperson included blue blocking automatically, which raised the price of the lenses over $100 (for only a 1.57 lens). When I explained my 80+ year old mother, who looks at a phone, computer, and TV a total of maybe 1-2 hours a day, did not need advanced blue blocking, I was forced to do so twice because the salesperson seemed to not want to take "no" for an answer. She also confused my mom by referring to the blue blocking lens add-on only as "anti-glare," which often means things other than or in addition to simple blue light blocking. The salesperson finally asked my mom a third time if she spent a lot of time on her phone or computer, and after I answered "no," the salesperson didn't even look my direction before condescendingly saying "I was asking her" (referring to my mom). I replied that she could either deal with me or we would take my mom's business elsewhere. My mom was confused (she has a little cognitive loss) and I was forced to explain that she was bring upsold. The removal of the blue blocking option lowered my mom's post insurance cost from over $350 to under $200. My mom uses multiple pairs of glasses for different purposes (like blue blocking readers for her computer and Rx progressive sunglasses for outside) and it's ludicrous that she or I would needs to explain all that to an overly aggressive salesperson, instead of simply declinjng an option. So, my advice is the following: don't let your elderly parent/relative pick out/pay for glasses at Chicka Eye Care alone. My mom would have walked out if there paying upwards of $500 with both transitions and blue blocking that she didn't want or need because this salesperson didn't bother to figure out if she those options were actually best for her and then had trouble understanding the word "no." Upselling an expensive life necessity (like corrective eye glasses) to seniors on a fixed income is morally corrupt. Not sorry. The optometrist, Dr. Chicka, is very competant and thorough. She seems to work well with patients with challenges and disabilities, unlike a lot of other eye doctors. But this business needs to retrain their salespeople to either take the time to truly ask someone about their daily activities in order to figure out the best lens options for them, or literally don't offer them. Also, when a family member who is serving as a health advocate for an elderly client says they *don't* need something, that needs to be more important than getting that nearly $600 glasses sale (because they look like they can afford it). This review is specifically unfortunate to write. I have been bringing my children to Dr Chika since 2017 and she is a sweetheart. however, the woman at the optical department who is also the manager is a horrible person. Her communication and demeaning attitude is a complete turnoff in the office setting. I stopped getting glasses at the optical department once I realized she was overcharging customers. This particular time we came my 13 year old daughter did not want to be seen because she was unhappy about the women's attitude and how she spoke to me. Although I really like Dr. Chika that Asian office manager is the worst. She is rude and has zero people skills. She wanted to charge me 60 dollars for 2 missed appointments. 1 of them is from Jan and I've been there since January and wasn't charged this fee and the other one I called to reschedule...but, according to her, I didn't call in time to avoid the fee. Nickel and diming people, I don't have money to give away. What a foolish reason to lose a patient. I really don't understand why she keeps this lady on. After having a vision issue Dr Chika spent over and hour with me correcting a prescription, getting me an appt with a specialst and making sure everything was correct. I highly recommend her for any eye care that's not straightforward. She takes her time and really cares. read more

I had a good visit my first time in Dr. Chika's place of business; however, two years later, I was very disappointed with the service of the office manager of the establishment and the follow up by Dr. Chika. I believe the office manager got my information mixed up with another customer, which in turn led to a fee I was charged. I ask for Dr. Chika to give me a call about the situation, because the office manager was very implacable. I am still waiting to hear from the doctor. I will never return to this office again. I had an appointment scheduled for today at 3PM. Since we were hit with a bad snow storm over the weekend, I was not about to try driving on those dangerous roads to the appointment. Therefore, I called Chika Eye Care and asked to re-schedule my appointment, the young lady told me there will be a $25 no show fee. I explained to her due to an act of God, I was not driving on those icy dangerous roads. She told me I have to take my chances on the roads or incur a $25 no show fee. Awful experience. Staff is obviously under trained and unaware of basic (yet important) front desk information. They wasted my time, money, and energy. Totally deflated by this place. I've been having real challenges lately with my vision and knew I had to get my eyes checked out soon. My insurance provides for one Optometrist exam each year and I've never used that benefit so I phoned around a few places to find an appointment. AND I always ask if my insurance is accepted when speaking to offices. My husband is active duty military (for over 17 years now) so I know to ask up front if they'll honor the policy. I spoke with the man on the phone who confirmed our insurance was accepted. He took down my information: phone number, email address, mailing address and our insurance information (which consists of my husband's SSN Number!!!) and scheduled me for a late afternoon appt several days later. On the day of my exam, I took off work early to get to this appointment only to be greeted at the reception desk with: "Sorry, We Don't Take Your Insurance." I beg your pardon?.... A) Why did the man on the phone TELL me you did when I spoke with him B) Take down all of my information INCLUDING insurance information C) schedule me for an appointment ........if you don't take my insurance? Even if it was a mistake on his end, he had 4 days to phone me and say that he made an error. I would have been bummed but at least wouldn't have driven all the way out there during the work day. I'm just disappointed at the lack of decency in people. Thanks for wasting my afternoon and setting me even further back in identifying what's going on with me eyes. :( Would not recommend because the staff doesn't understand even basic information. I been waiting 5 weeks for one pair of glasses I called my insurance Agency that they're supposed to be sending off my frames to have my lens put in well I been calling Chika eye care for weeks now and I finally call my insurance Agency to see what's going on well they never sent my frames over but yet I been calling for weeks they told me they already sent them the Asian lady there is the manager and she's just flat out rude and does not have good customer service skills i regret going here and I will never come back the only good thing I have to say about this place is the doctor is very great and she is very caring so this has nothing to do with her I would give her 5 stars but the staff that is supposed to be sending over my frames (which I think is the Asian manager) is terrible will not come here again they are not trying to offer express shipping or discount or anything they just simply do not care read more

I would give this place 0 stars if I had the option. I went to this place for an eye exam last October or so and needed contacts. This place nickel and dimes you and asks for fees under the sun. I called for a cheaper contact prescription because I wasn't accustomed to paying $80 for contacts. The doctor found a cheaper alternative for $25, at checkout my total was $35 and some change and I asked why the extra charge and I was then told for a lab fee??!!! I asked for what? The representative then explained its for shipping because they don't stock contact lenses!!!! I called back a few months later for my prescription for the cheaper alternative so I could buy contacts from another eye facility who would have them in stock so I wouldn't be charged an extra $10, and the representative told me that the contacts I bought are no longer manufactured that they were discontinued over a year ago!!! I then said how is that even possible if I just bought a pair a few months ago!! I then asked to speak to the manager who was on vacation! This place gives you the total run around!!! read more

Don't go here expecting super duper care and attention. The doctor is very nice, and not bad, but no one makes any real effort to make sure your glasses fit properly.
