Been here twice now, and it was even better the 2nd time! I sat at the bar, which is a single traveller's secret of how to get the best service and better conversation than if you brought a partner! Bartender/ Master of the House Kristen was very engaging, great to talk to and clearly has many regulars that keep people coming back. The service was awesome and the whole experience was easy and enjoyable. My one and only complaint/criticism really: stock the wine better. Perhaps there is not a demand for it in this space, but something mid-grade should be available for the slot warriors having simultaneous drinks. We liked the food and service enough here to go back for the 2nd evening of our stay. 1) Service is great. Thomas and Angelina were wonderful and personable. 2) The quality of ingredients is really good. Fish was fresh and vegetables were nicely blended and cooked. Our only quibble is that was that the "spicy" food is really for folks whose taste buds have never been near so much as a peppercorn. We found ourselves adding a lot of red chili sauce and mustard to various things (NB: this is informed from decades of eating Chinese food at places without English menus). Still, the flavor overall was quite good and I'd recommend it over the other restaurants at the Peppermill. Oh, and portions are pretty large, so bring an appetite! read more

Great Restaurant! I want to say we have lived in Reno for 15 years and never have tried this restaurant and now we are kicking ourselves. The waiters and waitresses are great and really made my daughter's birthday dinner a hit! The food was great and the suggested menu items from the waitress were really good all of them! They gave my daughter a complimentary piece of coconut cream cake with coconut gelato that put the cake I made her to shame. It was a large piece so we could all share and then came the hot towels. The potstickers and vegetarian spring rolls were the perfect introduction to this fine restaurant. My friends and I ordered Appletini's which were perfectly made and super delicious. I did try their pineapple margarita and I would recommend it if you're a fan of vanilla but I personally thought it was a little too sweet for me. The orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, vegetable chowmein, and pork fried rice are A MUST when eating here (the perfect portion for 5/6 people). Went here earlier this month and Linda was our amazing server! She constantly checked up on us and was super sweet. It was our first time here so we ordered based off her recommendations. We ordered the hot and sour soup, Mongolian beef, general chicken, sweet and sour pork, and Szechuan shrimp, and the appetizer plate. All were amazing! Also, you could tell how great a Chinese restaurant is by their hot and sour soup.. theirs was pretty up there, but not the best I've tasted. First the atmosphere is beautiful. We were sat and we're given our menus. My husband and one of our friends menu was empty with no menu print inside. No problem! We get it, they need to get wiped down. We let out server know and she was very quick to bring new ones. We a all ordered the Chi Dinner, which is a 3 course meal. We ordered 2 sweet and sour chicken, 1 general chicken and 1 Mongolian beef. All this was Served with Appetizer Platter: Vegetable Spring Roll, Deep Fried Cheese Rangoon and Chicken Wings in Spicy Pepper Salt (per person). This also included unlimited steamed or brown rice. We also ordered additional sides, egg flower soup and an order of pot stickers. Food was brought out and it looked delicious (we are all about presentation). I was surprised to see the large portions! The food was delicious!! So tasty and flavorful! No way one person can eat the entire meal. Dessert was served which is house gelato and an almond cookie! Had a fabulous meal! Thomas our server is the consumate professional. His service was attentive, not oppressive. He gave us time, but was always ready. Been here a few times when we've stayed at Peppermill, always great food and good service! Good sized portions for the most part. (Except the honey walnut shrimp, for $27 I would expect the portion to be as generous as the other entrees) but yummy food none the less! My party got a little private room in the back and it felt so vip! only reason I'm giving it 3 stars was because I felt the portion and the Quality of the food could have been a little more worth going to. I had a large party and ordered two of everything I wanted. The food didnt seem like it was enough to feed my party of about 18 people. Besides the food and the portion sizes, the customer service is great. The servers were quick with the food, came in and checked on us every 5 minutes or so and I felt like I was really being catered to. It was such a great experience! Located in the Peppermill Casino on South Virginia st. The service here is first class and they have an excellent menu. We especially like the Peking Duck which is the closest thing I have had to not being in China. They also have a nice assortment of wines and mixed drinks. Been here quite a few times and I've always enjoyed their food. From the reviews of other Yelpers, looks like this place is a hit or miss. Luckily for me, it was always a hit :) Flavorful chinese food without that unnecessary grease and oil all over it - a super plus! I love their peking duck with mushu flatbread. Crispy skin, tasty duckmeat, and delicous sauce all inside a mushi bun - yummy! Some of my other favorite dishes there - orange chicken, mongolian beef, sweet and sour pork, steamed bass with ginger and scallion, and deep fried calamari in spicy salt. Nice dinner. Had the Chi dinner at 25.00 each. Started with appetizers that were good and for dinner each person (5 of us) selected entree. We had general chicken, lemon chicken, pepper prawns, beef broccoli and Kung pao chicken. We also ordered side of mixed veggies, which wasn't needed because we had plenty of food. Also included white or brown rice and gelato dessert with almond cookie. Service was great and they even brought out custard dessert with candle for birthday. Since Chi is a more "up-scale" version of your Americanize Chinese food, I decided I wanted to order the salt and pepper shrimp instead of my typical go-to, which is general tso's. In my mind when I ordered the salt and pepper shrimp, I imagined it to be lightly stir fried with salt and pepper (obviously) and jalepeno slices... that's the salt and pepper shrimp that I'm used to. At Chi, the shrimp was dipped in batter and then fried (instead of it being peel and eat which is common for this dish) and seasoned with salt and pepper. I was disappointed at first since I was envisioning something else. The dish itself was TOO salty for my liking and not enough pepper... I don't remember if I finished the dish or not, but if I did... I must have guzzled a bunch of water afterwards. Everyone else at my table played it safe and ordered dishes that they were all familiar with such as orange chicken and a whole bunch of other variations of chicken dishes. Chi would not be one of my go-to restaurants in the Peppermill. You can probably get something similar if you venture off the casino for cheaper. Staff at the Chi were really friendly and the interior were nice as well. read more

Here's what I love about Chi: the 20% locals' discount. I kid, I kid...but only kind of. The cool thing about Chi is that you can get a full-on fine dining experience at a chain restaurant price. The atmosphere here is nothing short of LUSH. Every part of the dining room is richly decorated, incredibly comfortable, and the last time we ate there I even had to take a moment to appreciate how artful the lighting design is! I have a particular weakness for big, circular booths, and Chi is filled with them. The one thing that can really hinder your enjoyment of the ambiance is that there are slot machines right up to the doors and no barriers to block the noise or smoke, so ask for a table in the back so that you can get some distance from that. While we don't have experience with a lot of the menu, what we have ordered has all been incredible. The Honey Walnut Shrimp is outstanding, though very, very rich. I've had both the Egg Flower and Hot and Sour soups, and they are both very well made. Husband has had both of their duck dishes (his favorite food), and he has been happy both times. The Calamari in Spicy Salt is addictively wonderful! The cocktails are really lovely as well--I am a fan of the Asian Mule--but they are pricey and the discount does not apply to alcohol, so you can really run up the bill there if you're not careful. The servers at Chi are very good at their jobs. We haven't had anything but a top-quality experience both times we have been to this restaurant, which was for our last anniversary dinner as well as our Christmas Eve dinner, so our expectations were pretty high! It really just is a wonderful place if you want to feel fancy but don't want to drop a ton of cash. read more

The pad thai was a terrible rendition, the mongolion beef was nothing great, and the general's chicken had absolutely no flavor. You would think with the staff actually being from Asia (our server was from Hong Kong), this place would have some legitimacy, but I was definitely wrong. The pad Thai was ok nothing special. The lemon chicken was juice and I loved how they didn't skimp out of the lemon glaze it was great. Now,if you live shrimp like I do the Honey walnut shrimp is a must! The shrimp are HUGE coated with a sort of crispy tempura lathered up with the honey glaze. To my surprise the plate also had small honey dew and cantaloupe pieces THEY WERE DELICIOUS. The combination sounds odd but it was sooooo good. Our waitress Grace was a gem! So pleasant and spunky. The ambiance and service here are good but the high prices and so-so food are not worth it. We ordered the appetizer platter, hot tea, salt and pepper shrimp, cashew tofu, and chicken chow fun. 1. Appetizer The spring roll was tasty; the crab and seafood wontons were overcooked and so crunchy as to be painful. Hubby says the chicken wings were so-so. 2. Hot tea Good; not too "flowery"; very hot. 3. Salt and pepper shrimp The shrimp were breaded and deep fried and salted, which tasted okay; the peppers were very mild so as to have little flavor and definitely no spice. I like my "salt and pepper" dishes with flavorful spicy jalapeños so this was a disappointment. 4. Cashew tofu This dish has promise with tofu that was cooked well and good cashews and veggies... but way, way, way over-salted (and I like salt). 5. Chicken chow fun Bland... terribly disappointingly flavorless. I would not return to Chi even if staying at the Peppermill- there is much better Chinese food in Reno for a fraction of the cost. read more

I am a local from Reno and really enjoy the Peppermill, me and boyfriend decided to check this restaurant out for his birthday. We were greeted very nicely by the hosted. The busser was amazing ! Very attentive. We ordered the general chicken and the sautéed shrimp which was amazing ! The quality of the food was great, a very good Chinese spot, can be considered authentic. Now this is the part that explains the 3 starts!!!! Our server was Linda. She was honestly a rude server. Not attentive at all. I had asked for cups of soup and when she delivered the appetizers she also had a bowl of soup which I thought was ours I'd figured she misunderstood me, so I said "oh I'm sorry do you have just cups of soup" which she responded. "This isn't your soup I'll bring yours later." With an attitude. We could tell she didn't want to serve us. She dropped off our food and never came back to check on us. The busser pretty much served us. There had been a table next to us, to whom she was very attentive to, got their food boxed before us as well as their check. She came to ask if we were done, brought the check and didn't bother to ask if we wanted dessert. Which I was honestly looking forward to since it was my boyfriends birthday. I actually used to work at the Peppermill at one point therefore I've experienced nearly everything they have to offer in entertainment and cuisine. Chi had a lot of hype once in was opened a year ago, I've been to the other excellent restaurants and it led me to have high expectations of this place also. Sadly, it was a major disappointment. The food we ordered was very basic: chow mien, fried rice, appetizers. Everything we ate that evening was bland, basic, and over priced. The service was definitely above average, the waiter even remembered our last names! The value just wasn't there for the food. We ended up paying $60 for what should have been $30 and it tasted extremely bland. I will not be back to Chi because of the food itself. I know a lot of people that eat out at nice places that have great service and elegant settings, but I go for VALUE. If it tastes great and it meets a fair price, expect to see me frequently! read more

I travel to Reno about every 6 weeks and I stay at this hotel mainly for the 4 or 5 fine dining restaurants in the hotel. Chi is TOP of my list in Reno for great food. Often I eat at the bar the bartender give me great service. The spare ribs and the won ton soup are the best starters. I only gave them 4 stars because at times when I bring a group into the main dining area the service can be a little slow. Since I am there on weekdays I suspect it is because they do not have enough staff like on the weekends. Once I complained to the manager and here personally took our table and comp'ed some dessert. As a footnote, it seems like a lot of locals are getting to go food there and since it is inside a hotel/casino it is not easy to just grab it and go. read more

I live in San Jose, California and there are Asian restaurants galore here in the Bay Area. Chi "in the Peppermill Casino in Reno" is our favorite Chinese food restaurant ! The food is great every time and is very delicious. We have tried atleast 10 different items off their menu and all have been excellent. The decor is upscale and is overall a very nice restaurant. The best part is that it is in the casino and attire isn't really scrutinized. You may dress in a tux to a t-shirt and shorts. Very relaxed atmosphere and the service staff is excellent, friendly, and accommodating. I label this restaurant as a must dine ! We eat here every time we stay at the Peppermill. Love this place. I've been to many nice Chinese restaurants- in So Cal. Came here while in Reno and it really impressed me and my family. My brother, sister-in-law, and I shared an appetizer of tasty pan fried pot stickers (hotel coupon), bowl of good hot and sour soup (more than enough for the three of us), and dishes of lemon chicken, Mongolian beef, and stir fried greens. Everything was fresh and flavorful- perfectly prepared and generous. We wanted to finish everything, it was so good, but after stuffing ourselves, we just couldn't. Of course we couldn't pass on the almond cookies, which seemed freshly baked in-house, and they were wonderful. Best I've ever had. The service was very friendly and attentative, and the decor is kind of elegant traditional Chinese, with good, tranquil Asian music playing in the background. If I'm ever back in Reno and want Chinese, I'll def go to Chi. read more

Came here with my family, I really liked that they accommodated us even though we called the concierge at 1p to make a reservation ans didn't even made that reservation, super upsetting!
