This is a curious place. In a nutshell, excellent eats, but quite rough off the plates. I'll…read morestart with the maitre'd/host, who was sufficiently surly that you might actually mistake him for being a French caricature out of central casting. Our seating was really great, nice and spacious. Our server was simply... the best. She was attentive, gave us excellent recos -- we elected for a smattering of shareable à la carte small plates rather than the three course tasting menu (there seemed to be so much overlap between the two menus anyway, so we elected for the flexibility of à la carte). The boudin with small prawns was fantastic -- the boudin itself held up in flavor yet was delicate in texture. Excellent burrata that came dressed with really fresh accompaniments and mad points for the rustic bread that came nicely toasted. The octopus was generous enough for four of us to have a good taste and move on -- it came with a lovely red sauce that I wanted to mop up with bread. The tuna tartare was brilliant, the french fries that came with it seemed a tad unconventional. And a big win for the lobster risotto, absolute perfection. I wish I could remember the names of the cocktails we ordered but suffice to say, they were all delicious, never harsh in any way. So one thing I wanted to point out was how this one server -- not our main server who was, again, THE BEST -- kept clearing out plates in the middle of eating. Literally, we're in the middle of enjoying a dish and he'd just swoop in, swipe our plates, and dash off. WTF is that about. This lack of awareness definitely took points off an otherwise rather enjoyable meal. Just watch out for the surly host at the front of house and be prepared to fan off the guy trying to take your plate and you just may have yourself a delightful meal here!

We throughly enjoyed Chez Victoire. It was the waiter who made the difference. Very professional…read more Recommended cocktails and wine. The young woman who actually brought the dishes to the table explained each one as she delivered it. We started with a tomato salad with a kind of whipped burrata. Then wonderful grilled octopus. We finished with magret de canard (duck breast) -- prepared medium rare but not as tasty as I would have hoped.

Creamy, smooth, nice texture. Breadcrumbs were delicious. Stracciatella w/ Bottarga (8.5/10): Very unique dish. I loved the bottarga-flavored radish. Added a nice splash of seafood taste into the salad. The stracciatella was amazing. White Asparagus (8.5/10): Very well-executed. Asparagus was tender. The greens on top were nicely charred. Sauce was tasty. Buckwheat Cake (8/10): Excellent cake. Simple, but decadent. Not too sweet either Though this is the top-ranked restaurant in Montreal, I still have to say Beba is my favorite. Although Mon Lapin is good, the service and taste both fall short of Beba's.

I know there was a high expectation from this restaurant and I will say they even exceeded those…read more We did the tasting menu and added the leeks. I am obsessed with the leeks and scallop toast. I will crave those!! The only critique I have is the duck was a little chewy and could have been a little more crispy/fried. But aside from that everything was amazing and fresh. Also, the wine selection was great. The staff were informative and nice. They timed out all the course perfectly. I told my husband I'd literally fly to out here for 24 hours just to make dinner reservations here and leave the next day. It's expensive but it's very well worth it. Also, the size of the restaurant looks small, but it is very spacious. You don't feel crowded.

Heard it opened last year and always meant to go try it out…read more Cute little place with small tables or seating at the bar. I personally prefer the bar when we are only 2 people. Since we were 3, we opted for a table by the window. Got there're around 5:30pm and there was probably 1-2 more tables. By 8pm, it was packed on a Wednesday so it's a good sign! The good menu is not very big and they are tapas style meant to share. Started with the mouse de foie de volaille...probably the best one I had in my life! So good that I had to order a second. Also tried the beetroot also delicious. Homemade pasta was also very good...Al dente. The radis mackerel dish was meh...you can skip that one. The eggplant dish was alright... They have an extensive wine list and pricing is very reasonable. Asked our waiter to recommend 2 bottles that would pair with our food and they were $65 and $75. This is not the kind of pricing you will find in a wine bar downtown or old port. Would definitely come back for the ambiance, wine but really for the mousse de volaille

We had just gone shopping for a couple of bottles at the SAQ on Beaubien, just 3-4 blocks from…read morevinvinvin and decided to try it out. It was around 3pm and of course we were the only people there, but generally didn't find the service to be that friendly or accommodating - it was more courteous and efficient as opposed to being very welcoming, which is totally fine. Overall, like many wine bars in Montreal, the BTG and bottle list skews very heavily toward natural or minimal intervention wines from all over the world (except the United States due to tariff boycotts). Although Quebec is a burgeoning wine producing region (often overshadowed by BC wines from Okanagan and ON ice wines), I found many lists did not offer much from the region, which is really disappointing. vinvinvin definitely had the most options available (perhaps 5-6 total of 40-50+ labels) and many BTG, which is great if you're looking to try some local wines. They do offer food, but the kitchen doesn't open until 4pm so we didn't try anything. Overall, I like the decor of the place and it seems like it'd be a really fun place to hang out with friends. But given that we were the only clients there at the time, I wish the service was a bit friendlier.
