Seriously one of the best meals I've ever eaten in my life. Service was top notch and the food is indescribable. Do yourself a favor and go!

Packed house on a Friday night for excellent food and great vibes! I enjoyed a perfectly grilled hangar steak which has been a longtime option at this popular spot! My after dinner coffee was delicious as well, I highly recommend this spot in Montreal's St Henri neighborhood!

What an extraordinary restaurant -- and within walking distance of our BnB. We started with six lovely, briny oysters. Followed by the best chicken liver pate I have ever had. With a tiny rectangle of savory bread pudding to spread it on and fabulous home pickled veggies. Did I mention the crisp chicharon de pollo inserted into the top of the pate? Wow! My friend had the amazing, extraordinary hangar steak avec frites. The best hangar steak ever. (I had the leftovers for lunch the following day -- that's how big it was.) I had the magret du canard. (Duck breast to us gringos.) It was huge. Several ducks' breasts? And lovingly prepared. And delicious. The downside was that we had no room for dessert. Did I mention a fabulous bottle of wine? It must have been a rose but in fact the color was more towards orange than pink -- and it was fabulous. If only I could remember the name. Truck Shop is a five star, don't miss, take an Uber from downtown sort of restaurant. Be sure to make a reservation. Even on a week night. It's that good.

Fab meal from start to end: heirloom tomato &burrata, eggplant & smoked mozzarella mezzaluna pasta, and a massive pork chop with grilled peaches. Terrific cocktails, lovely service, can't wait to come back! Ps: too full for dessert but it looked great!

It's a very good restaurant, and one of the original fancy/comfort food places in this city. Cooking-wise, there is nothing particularly revolutionary about the food, but almost every dish tastes like a treat of sorts......kind of like tuck for those of us who went to sleep away camp as kids. With an weekly changing menu, they often feature cod, cornish hen, braised beef, pork belly, and seafood pasta. Nevertheless, in the half dozen times I've eaten here over the years, I have a hard time ordering anything else but their hangar steak with chimichurri and fries. The hangar steak is amongst the most tender pieces of meat you will find. The chimichurri, however is what sets this dish miles above the competition. You can get steak and fries at 1000 restaurants in this city. You will be hard pressed to find a chimichurri like this in Montreal. The parsley is fresh, coarsely chopped, deliciously salty, and bright green. It packs an acidic punch and pairs very well with the flavourful beef and the fries which are excellent. Their market salad, although boring at first glance, is actually an elevated dish. They subtly weave in ricotta, nuts, pomegranate seeds, and citrus with very fresh greens and vegetables. I'm not usually a salad guy. Although I enjoy them, I usually order something a little more exciting to start a meal. Even with excellent appetizers like sea urchin, octopus, and beef tartare, this salad is worth it. On my last visit, my wife and I shared the market salad and corned beef appetizer to start. My god was this corned beef amazing. They only give you a 2 ounce portion as an appetizer. (It's brisket, not beluga caviar. Give me a bit more for chrissakes!) Nevertheless, one bite of this cured meat and I'm transported to Katz's deli in NYC. The flavours were that rich and deep. It really makes me wonder what they could accomplish if they wanted to feature this as a main somehow. Or, how about just keeping it as an appetizer and serving it with some good mustard and a pickle. I don't need it placed upon a bed of red cabbage puree with barley and 5 other "foodie" like components. Don't get me wrong because I like "foodie" composition of elements in a dish if that's what is called for and it adds something. With corned beef however, just serve it properly. The protein shines on its own. Their pecan pie and brownie with ice cream desserts are both excellent. On the annoying side, they don't take reservations online, and even by phone, securing a table during regular dining hours is like winning a raffle at your office. The restaurant is small and quite cramped. You always have to leave a message and wait for a callback. I'm sure they have their reasons for this, but from a customer's point of view, it's annoying, slow, and inefficient. On our last visit, service was generally good, but our table never got bread and butter. Also, when we ordered a couple of single malt scotches, they came back with one of the stingiest pours you can imagine....not even a finger....maybe a child's finger.... Despite the glitches. when you finally do get a table here, you probably won't be disappointed.

We had great early dinner last night. Everything was spot on, grilled octopus with pancetta and potatoes, the artichokes were a tad on the salty side, beef cheeks and the cod. Great job on the presentation and texture combination. Be aware that it is noisy and the tables are super close together.

Ok so... I was actually really looking forward to having dinner here. The space is nice, the greetings at the door by the staff was very pleasant. I was running a little late and my dinner party was already seated with wine. Then our waitress came and explained the menu, so on & so forth. She was not rude or anything but she was not the most enthusiastic person I've ever met either. We settled for the pork belly, the lobster mushrooms, the steak, the crudo and the fish. Everything tasted good, although the lobster mushroom was not what I usually had before and it was kinda bland. When we were almost done, the waitress came back to let us know that we had to leave for the second service to come in (which we knew already) and said that some items on the dessert menu would take too long to prepare while verbally going through them. We were a bit taken aback as it felt... passive aggressive. Another waiter came by a few minutes later and brought us the actual dessert menu and was very nice about it, to which our waitress later claimed (half jokingly) "He always makes me look bad doing that!" We are all allowed a bad day or two I guess but I'd try to keep my personal issues from surfacing while at work. Now don't get me wrong, it wasn't the worst experience I've ever had but it was however nothing special and I have other places to try before I come back here.

Restaurants in Montreal with the name of an Italian region - 2 of 2…read more I had seen Restaurant Siciliana before. It is on Rue Stanley, not too far away from the Peel Metro Station. Rue Stanley always makes for a chuckle. I have known very few people with that name. However, it's the eponymous name of a (not even) B movie about someone's dangerous pet snake. I looked at the menu board at around lunch time. It seemed like a generic Italian restaurant, with a broad-based Italian menu and not one that was particularly Sicilian. But this was at lunch time, and I was walking down the street with something to do. I returned for dinner another day. Everything at Restaurant Siciliana was sort of perfunctory and ordinary. The interior is old school and has the red and white check tablecloths. The wood fired pizza oven is visible from the restaurant. They seat you quickly and I wanted to sit closer to the back and next to a wall, to which they obliged. Since I could not find a wall outlet, they were willing to charge my phone for me. I did not want a pizza. For that, I might go to dei Compari, which I very much like. I was looking for pasta. Since I couldn't see what it might look like or what others had ordered, I settled on the trio - three types of pasta. I've seen this done before at other Italian eateries and, within reason, they allow substitutions. Here, the wiggle room is not that much (that means no filled pasta or lasagna/e) and there is an upcharge for the allowed changes. I wanted to swap out a pasta with Alfredo sauce and they did so for another pasta that is also on their menu at the same price, but with a $3 upcharge (for U.S., divide by ~1.36). Is that that much of an inconvenience? Everything was ok - one in a Bolognese sauce, one in a rose' sauce, and one in a pesto sauce - except that the pesto sauce was a little oily and didn't sit with me. To drink, I had a ginger ale. I'm beginning to like that stuff. The service was good. It was also expedient, albeit a little reserved. This was a 3-star event and, going forward, I will continue to look for other Italian (and Sicilian) restaurants in the area. I would love to know of an authentic Sicilian restaurant in the agglomeration that is Montreal. The very first Italian restaurant at which I ate in Montreal was just up the street, at Stanely and Maisonneuve. Either a Chapters or a newer building went in. That restaurant was more of a diner, which explains why it wouldn't be there - close to the financial district - anymore. Change can be hard to accept. I remember that that was also the first time I had heard the term rose' sauce. This is what Eastern Canada refers to a pink tomato-cream sauce. The middle-aged dark-haired woman who helped me had to have been from the western part of Montreal or its island, spoke perfect English with mannerisms suitable for an Italian neighborhood the Northeastern U.S., and looked like Kaye Ballard. I would have preferred a restaurant like that to this one for the price-quality rapport of the food and a Rue Stanley/Financial District location. If you are a tourist and your time is metered, I might skip this one. If you are a local, you can try Restaurant Siciliana for pizzas and/or pasta and see if it suits you.

Restaurant Siciliana - Since, like French, Italian is gendered, Trattoria Siciliana would be correct but I'm not so sure about Restaurant Siciliana.

Inside this little place there are maybe a dozen tables ... mostly for two. The place was casual, unpretentious, and relatively inexpensive. Service was friendly and spot on. Now the owner who drew us in - whatever his name - does it all here. He seated us, we saw him clean off some tables, and he goes back and forth in the kitchen personally making each dish. He had only two helpers ... one doing dishes and the other helping wait the tables especially when he was fixing a plate. The meals are essentially light pasta with light sauces ... nothing much heavy here. It is meant to be a quick lunch spot, and only stays open a while after hours. The menu - posted in the front window - is written on a sheet of paper and usually is about 8 different pastas and sauces; after you sit at a table you will find that the current list is generally smaller as they have run out of stuff during the day. Be that as it may, it was pretty good food. We had the Canelloni Rossini (4 stars with a light red sauce), Penne Arrabbiata (4 stars with another very light sauce), and a Calypso Salad (4 stars with very nice greens). The big takeaway was that he can make any kind of quick pasta and put any one of his light sauces on it for a quick meal. The sauces were nice - very light but nice. The pastas could have been a bit fresher. Interestingly, they only take cash - and that is not mentioned on the front window. He does have an ATM machine inside to help you cover the cash, but he should really announce this out front, especially for all the tourists that are in Montreal. Our bill came to $70 and he wrote down $80 ... maybe he included the tip for us - don't know, but pay attention to your bill on the way out. In fairness, the prices are reasonable here - $4.95 for a glass of the house Chianti, and every one of the pasta meals were simply $9.95. Canoli were $6.00 each.
