Outstanding! Best dining experience in the last several years. Inventive, delicious, and beautifully presented dishes, lovely cocktails, very friendly staff, and amazing desserts. Highly highly recommended. !

A modernist upstart to Montreal's fine dining scene highlights creativity and playfulness with an outstanding tasting menu, impeccable service, and a boisterous dining room that occasionally breaks out into cheers (for birthday cakes). The tourists go to Joe Beef, and Toque is where you take your partner for an anniversary. This, though, is the restaurant your cool foodie coworker keeps raving about. Pro Tip: Solo diners end up getting large portions. Eat alone and enjoy the gluttony. I'd also encourage the tasting menu, but grab a couple dishes from the regular menu too. Worth the higher price. If/when Michelin arrives in Quebec, this is a likely one-star spot.

At some point in the evening a little boy dressed like a skeleton came by our table and dropped off what looked like communion wafers. It was one of the most conventional parts of the evening. Stellar service. Outstanding food. Killer wine list. Theatre of the absurd meets white tablecloth.

Probably my favorite place in Montreal. The ambience is bright and whimsical. Food is also phenomenal. Waiter service is also great because they change plates after each course. I especially love their seared foie gras.

Check out Montreal Plaza for some shareable plates and to enjoy the light and fun ambiance, there were 2 birthday parties and it sounded like a blast! Remember to book your reservations ahead of time. Food was delicious and plated beautifully. My favourite was the Fish Tartare + Popcorn, the different textures and layers of flavours (spicy, salty and tart) work surprising well together. Plus the miso butter in the Bourgots Miso was very nice, I could eat an order by myself! Service was great, they called in advance to reconfirm our reservation and to make sure we were okay with bar seatings.

Advertised as one of the best restaurants in town, Montreal plazas flavors didn't disappoint. The crowd a site to see or be seen in. The flare of the place was like a Manhattan or SoHo vibe, but really behind it was a tone of awesome tasting unique French dishes. The menu couldn't be less helpful, you don't know what you're getting. Popcorn sashimi? What kinda fish comes in that? Is it really popcorn. You're along for the ride. But great flavors throughout. The vol-au-vent was a favorite but everything was extremely good. The only knock on this place, they want you sitting and ordering more and more booze, so expect 15-20 minutes between each dish. Worth the wait, just don't do a 9pm reservation like we did.

Came here after my graduation for dinner with my family. My parents were very familiar with the chef and the restaurant as it has been featured in many articles and radio shows. The concept is eccentric. The decor is unassuming at first but once you sit down you realize "oh. So that was an Elmo plushie sitting alone at that table over there. There's a makeshift air plane on the fan and an upside down dollhouse on the ceiling." It's very entertaining to try to spot all the Easter eggs. The menu is also very out there. Portions are bigger than an entree but smaller than tapas. It's meant to be shared and for four people, we were told to order around 8-10 dishes. My parents went for the tasting menu which is $85/person. I went with the lamb tartar, the Caesar salad, and the Creton Big Mac (menu of the day). My sister got the lamb navarin and the cheese mushrooms. The food is well presented and the service is impeccable. The servers really know their stuff. The attention to detail impressed us all. My parents said the wines they chose to pair with their meal was excellent. On my end I think some meals were a hit and some were misses. I really loved the tartares, just wish there was more of it. The popcorn and tuna was the standout. Absolutely delicious. My Caesar salad was huge but it was lots of assorted vegetables and the sauce was a bit too sharp for my taste. The creton Big Mac wasn't at all what I was expecting. It was supposed to be a toast with creton reinvented but it was tiny and didn't taste like anything. My sisters lamb was amazing would recommend. My parents also got some fish and it was great too. For desserts we shared a tartatin, a puff with blueberry cream, some dark chocolate pie mousse thing, and some ice cream. Again the desserts were hit or miss. Didn't have any particular standout but the puff was pretty good. What really sets this place apart is the service. In my opinion that's what you're paying for. And then you're paying for a unique menu with out of the box textures and flavours. As well as an ambiance that's unlike any other. It was a full house on a Monday night despite the construction on st Hubert! That's saying something.

I picked this restaurant for my birthday dinner. Reading the menu choices does not do it justice. There were three of us in our party and it was recommended that we share 8 dishes. I think it depends on how hungry you arrive. We would have been happy with 4 appetizers and 1 main dish. I noticed that many people at other tables had the tasting menu which is five courses at one twenty per person. Is a completely different menu and chef's choice. After looking at other people's plates I would definitely choose that next time. Our meal was delicious, though. We had the razor clam, the fried sunchoke, the walleye, the sea bass, tuna tartar, fried oyster with beef tartar, the Cornish hen. My husband tried an orange wine from the piedmontese region of Italy. I had a nice white from Portugal. For dessert we had the Frozen grape cake and I had the Japanese squash ice cream with matcha powder. All of it was fantastic. We come to Montreal once a year & we will definitely come here again. My only complaint was that the waitstaff kept hitting my chair to get to the other two tables.

I didn't get to photograph the entire dinner but we recently discovered Montréal Plaza and what a little gem it is! It's located in Petite-Patrie and has a bright yet cozy atmosphere furnished with subway tiles that serves elevated modern French bistro vibe food and great selection of natural wines. The reservation was a bit harder to get, and we were seated at the bar although we enjoyed our experience and the interactive nature of sitting at the bar. We were a party of two and ordered from their a la carte menu: shared the smoked sturgeon cream, almond macaron with foie gras, Brussels sprouts, cavatelli with braised lamb, chicken yakitori (and an amazing dessert of the day that escapes my mind right now and I unfortunately did not photograph). Prices were not cheap, though the quality of the food and service well made up for it. I enjoyed the quirky touch such as the subtle appearances of the toy dinosaur. The portions are overall quite small. If you have a big appetite, I suggest ordering at least 3 items per person (if you take this into consideration, the $ can be a bit steep, so perhaps the sharing menu at $105/person would be a better call). Overall it is a bit far from where we normally dine out, but I would not hesitate to come back! I was here for a date night but I think it would be a fun atmosphere for a girls night too :) Food: 5 Value: 4 Service: 5 Overall: 4.

(Americans, make sure you have proof of vaccination and your ID. Digital proof seems to be fine.) I'm gonna be real with y'all, I think MP is 100% worth a visit but I don't think the actual taste of the food (at least the night I went) matches its notoriety or price. Let me be clear, however, a few items are complete knock outs and make this place a solid five stars. Those things are foie gras, mushroom and cheese, whelk with milk bread, crispy fruit, honey dessert and the spice cookie. The tuna on dinosaur was also a crowd pleaser, but I'm not a huge fish person so I can't vouch. If I could redo my experience here, I'd order these things all over, but double it. Hehe. I think the best dishes were more of the "appetizer-y" dishes. (One unique thing about MP is that they don't group the menu into courses. You order the things and your waiter will pace it out as they see fit- which I thought was super cool!) The "entrees" were the letdowns for me: duck + marrow and tuna steak. The dishes weren't really cohesive and quite honestly, the duck was under seasoned. BUT I'm firm with 5 stars because of the sheer creativity of all the dishes and the utter deliciousness of the plates mentioned above. Save room for drinks and desserts. Order all the desserts. If you're early for your dinner reservation, head across the street to Bar Nestor for a drink. If you're a fatty and want ice cream afterwards, there's an awesome, artisan place one door down: L'Armoire à glaces.

My local Montreal friend took us here and i was not disappointed. we had the sharing plates and it was wonderful. For the price it was so much wonderful food. from the first dishes of razor clams, white fish dip i between shrimp crackers and shrimp and daikon cannelloni i was impresyMd my taste buds are woken. there had many unusual combinations that surprised me like raw scallops with local strawberries. it was weird combination in my mind when they said it but worked when you ate it nonetheless. the last savory course included an even stranger combo of mussels, bone marrow, tonkotsu (pork cutlets) endives, clementine oranges, and fresh basil. i was like what is this! but it's an epic looking plate that i could somehow see at a Michelin star restaurant like Noma. the desserts were equally impressive and we were so full we had a hard time finishing it. we almost got there but not quite. we had this lovely dessert of meringue chips raaneeeu sorbet cream and raspberry sauce. i loved it. then there was a honey comb thing filled with apples and a squash ice cream with rice crispiea on the outside. all 3 desserts were fantastic. absolutely fabulous meal and service. would definitely highly recommend this place for a decandant night out.

Ahhhh Montreal Plaza. Amazing service. What a cool place. Lots of fun toys and cartoon nostalgia around the joint and the food was really unique in preparation and flavors. It was quite the treat. If you visit definitely get the tasting menu because they give you so much stuff that's off the menu. My faves of the night were the foie gras with fresh strawberries, razor clams and the duck salad that had crunchy duck confit as a topping. I swear if they sold that confit as a snack I would put it on everything.

Got to try some delicious food during my short weekend trip to Montreal Quebec…read more A friend organized a lunch for everyone before we all headed to the airport and funny enough this restaurant was in the hotel my friend and i stayed at. The restaurant was super quiet when we went as it was a Monday afternoon when most people were probably at work. The interior was quite elegant very clean and royalty looking. The service was 10/10. Waiter was very attentive and we could tell he paid attention to detail. He gave great food recommendations and definitely had knowledge of what's on the menu. Now as for how the food and prices were? Prices i'd say are pretty standard and reasonable. The squash soup was so yum and comforting. It had a puree texture to it. Good serving size. I would order it again! We obviously had to have some mimosas and yes we paired it with orange juice. The duck confit may have been a bit too much for me. Large portion and i couldn't even finish half of it. But it wasn't dry and the veggies had a nice crunch and the lentils were very filling and healthy. The flavour notes all went together but i'd definitely say the dish was more on the healthier side. The chicken supreme on the other hand .. although healthy it was still cheesy and buttery. Considering it was chicken breast it didn't even taste dry so i definitely appreciated that. The risotto paired with it was the star of the show! The restaurant takes resos online and they do have brunch on the weekends, happy hour menu looks promising. If i'm ever in town again and in the area i'd want to try their happy hour or chacuterie spread!

(Hotel restaurants, can be good/bad) We were definitely not dressed up which I was worried about but it wasn't an issue, we started with beef carpaccio and charcuterie, the pate was absolutely amazing as were all the cured meats. The beef carpaccio, was for me a little bland, I would have hit it with a touch of salt, but once you got a piece th at had balsamic drizzle it really opened it up and changed my mind. (I wish there was a little more of the balsamic. My husband had the Cornish hen, and I had the filet mignon, both were absolutely amazing, I even stole a little of his Bleu cheese for my steak. Steak was cooked perfectly, the sides were amazing. Our server was on point, his name was Pedro, I had asked him to send out a dessert privately and it was our 1 year anniversary, even though we were not dressed for the occasion as we were both exhausted from travel, We will probably be in for lunch tomorrow!

There are 2 sides of the restaurant: the more casual order what you want brasserie side and then the fancier multi-course chef menu side. I chose the brasserie side, where I had a reservation for a bar seat - turns out that wasn't really that necessary as there were several individual bar seats open; A group would probably have a difficult time getting a seat on a Friday evening though. For drinks, I had a paper plane and a last word. Those are my two go to cocktails for nicer bars, and they pulled them off fantastically (they also knew what I was talking about which is kind of rare for the last word). For an extra nice touch, they clipped an actual paper plane to the paper plane drink. Fun! For food, I ordered the Duck Confit. It was super crispy on the outside, but the meat was super tender and juicy and melted off of the bone. My mouth is watering while thinking about it. It also came with bread service. For dessert I had the tiramisu. I would give it a 4/5 - it was a little more bland than others I've had - not bad at all, but not my favorite one of all time. They seem to be serious about their coffee (see pictures). Since I was sitting right in front of it I had to order one to go with the tiramisu. I had a basic americano, and it was a great addition. My only real complaint is the bar seating felt a little bit exposed as the main walkway through the restaurant goes along the bar seating. Drinks 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 5/5, Ambience 4/5

After discovering Monarque in the Michelin Guide, we made a reservation during our time in Old Montréal, excited for an elevated dining experience with some adventurous dishes. We started with the bone marrow and also ordered the schnitzel, duck, and swordfish. The clear standout of the evening was the swordfish. Beautifully light and flaky, paired with a delicious couscous that gave the dish just enough substance without taking away from the delicate fish. It was easily my favorite bite of the night. The schnitzel and duck, however, didn't quite live up to the same standard. While both were good, I felt the heavier citrus-forward sauces did much of the work in bringing the dishes together rather than allowing the proteins themselves to shine. I appreciate a kitchen willing to experiment with less conventional dishes and bold flavor combinations, but some of these felt more interesting in concept than execution. The duck in particular is something I could have done without. Where Monarque truly excels is hospitality. The service was easily the highlight of our evening. The staff was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful in navigating the menu. This is the kind of establishment where if you drop your fork, someone is practically there with a replacement before you've had a chance to pick it up. The pacing was seamless, and the entire experience felt thoughtfully orchestrated. The atmosphere is elegant and formal, with dim lighting, white tablecloths, and an upscale setting that lends itself beautifully to an anniversary or special occasion dinner. My biggest hesitation comes down to the value. At this price point, I expect the food to be just as memorable as the service, and unfortunately, that wasn't quite the case for us. My verdict: 3/5 stars. Monarque is worth experiencing once, especially if you appreciate exceptional hospitality and an adventurous menu. But while I left impressed by the service, the food didn't earn a spot among my top-tier dining experiences. If you do visit, the swordfish would be my recommendation!

While the restaurant is highly celebrated and located within a Michelin-recognized hotel building, it does not hold a Michelin star of its own. But it is extremely classy. We decided to do lunch instead of dinner and it was a little more our speed, but if very, very attentive waitstaff is not your thing and $200 for lunch I'd skip this spot. We went because it had reviews for amazing beef Wellington and my husband hadn't had any in decades. And we were on vacation so let's go! The food was beautifully plated and service was impeccable inside of an amazingly decorated dining room that looked like a library in a mansion. The meals themselves weren't obscenely expensive but add a glass a wine, bread (it was not included) and coffee and it put us close to $200. This is inside a hotel and the lobby/bathrooms are very nice. Would recommend getting a reservation since there are limited tables and it was busy/full even on a Thursday evening. Came here on our first night in Montreal with 2 other girl friends. To start we all got cocktails and I had gotten the Right Word which has gin Tanqueray, liqueur St-Germain, Lillet, lime. It was a nice cocktail but nothing that special. I was a little disappointed that a fancy place like this did not have any unique cocktails. Most things on there were just basic cocktails you can find just with a different name. For our meal, my friend and I decided to get the beef Wellington and halibut and share as we both wanted the beef but also something lighter vs eating that much beef. Both dishes were very delicious but I didn't think they were amazing for the price you pay. Portions are on the smaller side too. To start, we had also ordered the focaccia bread. It comes out with a mound of butter with the Bar George logo on top and some sea salt crystals on a cute black slate board. The focaccia was fluffy and great, especially with the salted butter. It was nice that they cut up the beef Wellington into 2 parts already as we were sharing. Our other friend got the Lobster Risotto and I have to say hers was the best one of the 3. It has a curry flavor to the sauce and was just so flavorful and unique. The risotto soaks up all the flavor so that you have a delicious bit every time. The beef Wellington was recommended at Medium and it was perfect, Juicy and tender but it could have used a sauce on the side or a better side to bring in some more flavors. The halibut was a bit plain as well and needed a sauce. However, both dishes were still delicious. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. He helped answer any questions we had and gave his recommendations. Overall, a very pleasant experience, but just lacking a bit for me due the upscale vibes and pricing. Would still make a lovely meal if you are visiting Toronto.

We made it over from St Denis and were graciously seated in the window - perfect lighting for selfies and food photos! It was happy hour, so we indulged in oysters (NB and NS I believe), as well as their scallop on half shell; this was so delicious with the hazelnut oil and fermented beets and butter - we pretty much drank the liquid afterwards (unapologetically - I had it dripping down my chin I think). Next was their special of the day, ricotta and mushroom filled anglotti with ceps, smoked matsutake and another mushroom, garnished with shavings of truffle and Parmesan. This was earthy and warming and delicious. For me it was fall. I wished it was on the permanent menu! We also shared the prime NY steak with green sauce and baby heirloom turnips. To end the meal we shared a pudding chomeur aged Louis d'or cheese. This was a creamy bread pudding- like dessert with grated Louis d'or on top.
