The waiter called me an "@$$hole". He repeated it multiple times. 'Nuff Said normally. But, I'll tell the whole story. Earlier, I was left stranded with no service for about 30-45 minutes, and then although I was speaking with the waiter in English earlier on over multiple drink orders, he comes and speaks French to me when he hands me my last drink without verifying if I understood what he said despite me being an Anglophone (though I do know French too). The thing is I can sense BS from 100 miles away and I could tell that he was sneaking the French into the conversation intentionally probably because he didn't like serving an Anglophone for an extended period of time or something. Earlier on when I first arrived at the place, his service was fully in English and good. But, after I stayed for a while, all of the sudden the service was dead, and then it became in French. That's usually a pattern I noticed in bad waiters who hate Anglophones. That is no excuse to discriminate against a customer. I confronted him about speaking French to me, but he claimed he did it by mistake. The thing is if it was a mistake, he should have verified with me that I understood what he said when he brought my drink. I tried to ignore what he did, but I could feel the BS. If I wasn't sensing BS, I wouldn't have called out his bluff. So, here is how I tested if he was sincere about making a mistake or if he intended bad service. I simply told him I won't tip him for the last order (although I did tip him for an earlier order a big fat tip of 20%) as I'm the customer and the customer is always right. Also, I told him I was gonna come by next week as I've been there before, and if he treats me well next time, I would tip him. That's pretty fair given I am the customer and I decide if service was worthy of a tip or not. I was even considering to make up for his lost tip next time. You know what he says? He shows his true colours as not caring about me as a customer and discriminating against me. He tells me he doesn't give a shit about me. He tells me I am an "@$$hole". And, he even attempted to kick me out. I told him I didn't do anything illegal. He has no right kicking me out. I paid in full. I also asked him if I lied about them not serving me for about 30-45 minutes. He calls me an "@$$hole" again and he storms out. So, I stayed for 10 more minutes rightfully so as I've paid my bill despite the awful service. Not paying the tip is no legal reason to kick any customers. That would be considered discrimination. Anyways, by calling out his bluff, I proved that he truly didn't care about me as a customer, intentionally discriminating against me, and I found out for real that he's a bad waiter for calling a customer "@$$hole". In my experience at other places, the best thing to do in such a situation is to counterintuitively come to the place every day. Eventually, bad waiters quit if that happens. And, if the owner of the place shares the same sentiments for discrimination, the place would eventually close down. 2 places that discriminated against me last year closed down; a Buffalo Bill Chicken place and a Tim Hortons (which some people thought would never close down). I wouldn't mind in contributing to the closure of more places in Montreal if they abuse their customers, or if their waiters don't appreciate the concerns of their customers for bad service and don't care to serve customers in the best way possible (including remembering the language they spoke and responding with it) while assuming a position of humility instead of acting like they're more important than the customers. read more
