Really enjoyed my dinner experience here. The ambiance is very cute and cozy. They have 2 buildings with a middle patio. Any of them are great options but I did like the indoor seating a bit more for intimacy. The main building is a hit louder and the 2nd building with the bar has a quieter vibe. Service was great and so was the food. The onion soup might have been my least favorite, although it was still good. I felt it was just a tad too sweet for what I normally expect in an onion soup. There wasn't enough onions inside but I did enjoy the amount of cheese they topped it with. My favorite was the duck leg. It was extremely tender and the sauce paired very well! The hash brown that came with it was a little salty. The sea bass was also very delicious, it came with green beans and had a great flavor profile. Good texture and not over/undercooked. My friends and I came here for dinner when we were in town last weekend for a bachelorette. Definitely make a reservation if you plan to come here because the place was pretty small and filled up quickly. They had a lot of delicious sounding things on the menu so it was hard to decide what to get. I got a French martini to drink, which is one of my favorite drinks and I rarely see it on a menu. It was tasty but not the best I've ever had. I got the shrimp appetizer to start and then split the duck confit with my friend. The shrimp was tasty but the shrimp was a tiny bit mealy like they were overcooked. The polenta it came with was tasty and much too big of a portion to finish. If you're not a big eater, an appetizer might be enough for you because it was a good sized portion. The duck was super tender and delicious. I highly recommend getting this. Some of the others ordered the steak frites, the pesto pasta, and the French onion soup. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. Service was friendly and attentive so no complaints there. Well the food is not something wow but what it really disturbed me was customer service in 1 hour they came like 10 times and interrupting our conversation if we needed something else. They were really annoying and rude by doing that! At the end we couldn't wait to leave so I guess that was their point too... and they don't care because they tip you at the bill even if you didn't like the service! This is a small but elegant restaurant with excellent service and on point food. The dining room is well appointed and the food is reasonably portioned and lovely in its presentation. The food is not pyrotechnic, just really solid. Great wine list. There is a nice outdoor area off the street and a gorgeous wood paneled bar in the adjacent building where one can order food but they don't take reservations. Went here for Valentine's Day. It was the perfect romantic atmosphere. Our server went above and beyond, and was incredibly knowledgeable about the entire menu. It had been many years since our last visit, and so we decided to return for some good old-fashion French food. The dinner started out well, but the dining room got quite loud by the time we finished (acoustics were not great on a Thursday night). I'd recommend the betteraves (although the Roquefort clumped together instead of being distributed) which had a nice composition of beets, lentils, and walnuts. The confit de canard, as others have mentioned is great - so tender and moist, completely unlike past ones I've had - with a delicious semi-sweet sauce. My husband found the scallops starter to be just okay (small, he felt scallops were limited relative to the other ingredients). Pot de creme for dessert was nice - not too heavy. Especially nice wine options (a Beaune pinot noir). The service left room for improvement however. It seemed a bit chaotic at times with servers bumping into each other all at once and a limited greeting upon arrival. I rarely take the time to write reviews but I knew I had to after having an amazing meal here! My friend and I were exploring Georgetown and stumbled upon this cozy restaurant. We walked in around 5pm on a Friday and they were all booked for the rest of the night, but luckily the hostess offered us seating at the tiny bar (definitely only big enough to seat 2). We had the betteraves (beet salad) as an appetizer and it was simple but refreshing. We weren't very hungry so we shared the moules frites (mussels) entree and it was DIVINE. Easily the best item of the night-I would come back just for that flavorful creamy sauce. What really made our experience was the service from our bartender Hernan! He always made sure our waters were filled and checked in on us often making sure we were always taken care of. He made an amazing French martini and also brought us extra bread. Overall a 10/10 experience and would definitely recommend to anyone craving French cuisine in Georgetown! read more

This has been a long awaited review. I've been to chez Billy sud quite a few times. It's a staple restaurant for me in this area. I've sat at their restaurant, but normally sit at the bar area of their cocktail bar, called Bar a Vin, but they serve the same menu so it doesn't matter. Everything on the menu is delicious. I've had their duck, their mussels, burgers, sandwiches, desserts, almost everything and nothing disappoints. The service is so nice - the first time I went was alone and the bartenders were very friendly to me. The ambiance is nice - a bit of a speakeasy /cocktail vibe, but I never feel like I need to fit that vibe to go there. My guess is there's a correlation between those who whine about a fair 20% service fee and their reviews. Plus, couples who "gang up" to write bad reviews shouldn't bother to begin with (9/13/24). I have need to visit DC about every 3 months, stay in G-town, and eat at Chez Billy. Never a bad meal or experience. The staff is always friendly and the food is always excellent. Excellent servers, most notably, Fluke, who explained the dishes perfectly, was attentive and gave us complimentary sparkling wine for our anniversary. Service was lovely, and the ambience was quiet in the early evening, growing more lively as the evening progressed.
