Had an absolutely incredible dinner here! The duck was a true standout, crispy skin and melt in your mouth meat. And the rice pudding was so delicious and fluffy. The old fashioned was tasty with a twist. Friendly and really thoughtful service! We had a small event in their private room which was very comfortable for our group of ten. An amazing evening!

Food was great. It's a bistro type of restaurant and was packed on a Friday evening. We had a bottle of wine to share after being promptly seated. I had tuna - and it was cooked perfectly. The seasoning was a bit much but I tend to usually like less salty food. Service was punctual, menu items seemed to have an option for almost everyone. Great date night spot.

The French onion soup was the best I've ever had. This is an adorable little café, right near Georgetown really enjoyed the fries and the escargot, we thought that the steak tartar was just OK. It was a little bit too saucy. Great service, highly recommend...don't miss out on the soup!

Chez Billy Sud was a wonderful French escape in the heart of Georgetown, conveniently near my workplace as I had the chance to stop for a solo lunch. It was certainly packed even during the off-hours, which speaks to its commitment to high-quality service and food delivery. Reservations would be highly recommended for dinner hours. I was immediately seated in their outdoor space, which made for a great ambiance with wall decorations representing traditional Parisian street signs and art. Service was consistently strong, and I appreciated the recommendations when I asked on popular menu items. Their bread was soft, delicious, and delivered quickly after being seated. My only hesitation from the fifth star was that the Steak Frites listed as a New York strip, but my cut of beef was sadly a different variety. The flavor was absolutely delicious, with its peppercorn-crusted top, but it made it difficult to cut--especially since I wasn't given a steak knife. I still thoroughly enjoyed my meal, but did feel a bit disappointed in the tougher cut. The fries and béarnaise both complemented the dish well, so overall I still had a great experience. Overall, the environment and service were strong highlights. I also give props for fairly affordable prices for the high quality of dishes on their menu. I'd revisit for sure to try more plates, but definitely it's a spot to try for a solo meal or with others.

Food- overall good food. My favorites were the mussels and escargot. Fresh and deliciously seasoned. The tuna was also good but very basic. I do not have the branzino but my sister-in-law said it was great. Ambience- intimate and romantic. Service- excellent.

We came by here at lunch time on a Saturday and we're very happy with our choices. The bar is stocked and able to create expertly crafted cocktails. The quality of the food is top notch and the service was quick and friendly. We did come right before close, but we did not feel rushed. The interior was clean and roomy. We sat outside as we had brought our dog with us. She was allowed in through the outdoor entrance and the staff were very sweet towards her. I enjoyed the steak tartare, cooked perfectly to medium per my request. The French fries were SOOOO crispy and the steak has a fabulous sear. Both the goat cheese and fig plate and the tomato salad were delicious. The combo of fresh tomatoes, tomato jam and crispy bread was down up just right. I found the pricing to be quite fair for Georgetown for the drinks and the food. The entire experience was a 10/10.

We ate at the bar side of the restaurant and the dark wood paneling and tall ceilings made a lasting impact on my memory. But for such an elevated restaurant I was expecting the food to be a little better. Escargot is solid, but I prefer Le Diplomate and LBV for burgers.

Chez Billy Sud is about as classic a French bistro or brasserie you will find in Georgetown, replete with wicker chairs, tile floors, and blue and white stripes. The seating area is small, perhaps a bit tight, and the lights are a bit bright. I wouldn't exactly describe it as romantic as some of the other reviews have, more chic perhaps. Our server was very bubbly, and she gave glowing recommendations of some of the menu items -- the confit canard, in particular. We started our night with the beet salad, which was good although a bit disorganized. It can occasionally be fun to assemble your own bites, but in this case I just found it a bit annoying to try to wrangle things onto my fork. For mains, we split the confit canard and the sea bass. The sea bass was similar in some ways to the trout almandine I enjoyed at Le Diplomate. I found the Le Diplomate rendition to be a bit better -- a crisper cook to the fish and a more coherent profile to the accoutrements -- although this was also quite good. The confit canard was a true discovery though. I've never truly felt succulent was an appropriate description for a food until I tried this dish. The accompanying potatoes and sauce were also excellent, well cooked and flavored. I probably could have eaten three servings. The ducks out in the park will truly need to keep their guard up around me for some time after this. We finished the night with the cheesecake, which was stunningly cooked. And the berry compote was a quite pleasant accompaniment.

Cute French bistro in Georgetown. It's a small dining room with large outdoor seating. Their brunch menu doesn't offer many entrees but I saw many tables with the omelette and burgers so decided on the bistro burger. It tasted like French onion soup with Gruyère cheese and onions. It's a smash burger so it's very messy to eat but tastes so good. My daughter enjoyed her buckwheat crepes. This gave us the fuel we needed to do shopping in Georgetown.

MANGO SORBET
Alex K.

Located in Georgetown, Chez Billy Sud is a short walk away from M Street, just far enough to create a peaceful dining experience where you can get away from the city whether you join them in their indoor or outdoor seating. While the interior is not as large as other Georgetown restaurants the layout accommodates for many tables the restaurant has done a nice job of making the interior feel welcoming and inviting. What the indoor lacks in space however, the patio seating makes up for. The patio seating is spread out and runs the entirety of the depth of the indoor seating. In terms of the menu there were many options that would be a great choice. I ended up going with a specialty option that was not on their menu, a lamb dish. It was fantastic. It was flavorful and the meat was so well cook that it easily fell off the bone. In addition to the main course, I got dessert and tired both the "CRÈME BRÛLÉE" and the "MANGO SORBET" which both were delicious. Overall, I would recommend Chez Billy Sud for any occasion. The food is great and the environment is nice. Definitely stop by Chez Billy Sud if you have the time or occasion.

Although parking took a bit of time (par for the course in Georgetown), the location and outdoor ambiance at Chez Billy Sud more than made up for it. On a slightly chilly April evening, I opted to sit indoors and was pleasantly surprised by how warm, cozy, and inviting the space felt--almost like dining in someone's beautiful home. I went with my usual go-to: the escargots, which, as always, did not disappoint. Rich, garlicky, and perfectly prepared. The côte de porc was another standout--juicy, tender, and packed with flavor (thankfully, not even remotely dry). For dessert, we split the Basque cheesecake, though I'll admit I was tempted to keep it all to myself. All in all, a lovely evening with memorable dishes--I'll absolutely be coming back.

This might be one of my favorite dining sceneries in all of the city. My friend and I were lucky to get a table in their bar area right in front of a fire, and it is as dreamy and romantic and serene as you can imagine. I ordered their burger and fries, and it is one of the best burgers in DC. The wait staff is also amazing!!! So kind and attentive. Can't get enough of this place!

Jeff C.

Enjoyed a scrumptious lunch featuring Tartine, tomato soup and steak frites. The soup was sublime, creamy and filling textured. The streak was tender and cooked to perfection, while the fries were tasty and light. Our server, Maxine, was knowledgeable and explained all the gluten-free options. To my delight, there were many on the menu. We shall return.

The frites were tasty and crispy and the steak was cooked well. The steak was slightly small. The roasted salmon was cooked perfectly--very moist and a crisp skin. The fava beans and pea sauce was very creamy. The trout amandine was also cooked well with crispy skin. FYI It is cooked in a ton of butter. Dispelling the myth that French cuisine is pretentious, we felt like we were in a home, and that we would be fed full to the brim. Came in while it was packed late into the night. We were sat immediately and had a wonderful time. Our waitresses were patient and had great recommendations for our first time trying French food. They seem incredibly experienced and added comfort in the way they spoke to their customers and ran their tables. We were even greeted by the owner who was great and cheery to each table he visited. The one night we went, it was incredibly packed with people having intimate, lighthearted, and laughter-filled gatherings, tables with multiple rounds of wine, everyone sharing their fries, and so he should feel proud of this place. Touches like this made it as though we were dining in someone's house. And I love that they start you off generously with bread and butter. Its a type of french loaf that is nice and fluffy, and I'd recommend setting some on the side if you're ordering a brothy dish. We ordered Moules Marinières, which came in a delightfully large cauldron of juicy plump clean muscles swimming in an herbaceous-garlicky white wine sauce. Unassumable from the simplicity of ingredients they threw together, but incredibly complex in flavor. This is one of the few times I actually tasted bay leaf, and amongst the fewer times I found the use of rosemary not be so overpowering. The mussel liquor at the bottom was perfect when soaked up in bread. What an incredible dish. We also tried a classic, Le Steak Maison, which was also distinctively flavorful. Our steak had a perfect cook at medium rare, and was uniquely seasoned with some sort of blend of herbes de provence. The fries were pretty standard and substantial, but paired with the Béarnaise sauce, it was such a tangy play of richness and acidity. Again really simple ingredients just executed so well. Great job, looking forward to coming again to try more on this large menu.

I walked in and was seated at the bar. Rachal, the bartender, greeted me with a glass of water and asked me if I wanted a drink while I studied the menu. The restaurant space is very charming, giving off Parisian vibes. I ordered the Artichaut à la Grecque as a starter and the Salade Lyonnaise. The artichoke dish was simply delicious... steamed perfectly and accompanied by my new favorite sauce, sauce Ravigote. The whole plate was beautiful, but the way the sauce enhanced the flavor of the artichoke, not mask it, was just perfect execution. After taking my time with the artichoke, I switched over to the Lyonnaise salad... also simply perfect! The frisée was crisp and the lardons were cooked well. I'd say the only issue was the poached egg was a tad overcooked, but ever so slightly and it didn't ruin the dish. I sat at the bar after finishing both dishes and felt so much satisfaction from the food. The bonus was the lovely conversation I had with Rachal, at least until the rush of people started showing up... when I walked into the restaurant, it was quite empty, but when I left there was a line around the corner and every table was packed. There was no excitement, positivity or welcoming words. No one in the restaurant said happy Mother's Day or even Hello - they looked exhausted and like they were just trying to get through the evening. Perhaps they were overwhelmed and understaffed, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The good: - clean seating area - quick check-in - espresso martinis and the French 75 were good cocktails - the vegan entree was good - the mashed potatoes were good The bad: - seated for three people at a table with two of the seats not fitting, one diner had to endure the meal with half of their back against a protruding wall and on a bench seam. - appetizer tray showed up missing one of the four appetizers, when we asked about it, they commented that they were out of it. They brought us some more cheese puffs. We would not have ordered that had we known. - we had to summon the waiter to take our entrée order well after the appetizers had been completely cleared - we had to share Waters when we could not get refills after trying a couple times - atmosphere was bland, didn't seem like effort went into the decor or the experience The ugly: - their signature dish was ordered medium rare: it could not be cut with the table knife and there was no steak knife because it's supposed to be a melt in your mouth dish. It was well done and had to be returned. From our seats, we could watch them inspecting it and talking while one of them rolls their eyes. They bring out another one that was cooked to order. - when we got the bill, they charged for both steaks which was an $82 charge. - again, we have to find somebody to help us with the check. There were no apologies and no offer for compensation for the appetizer, the service, the food, the overcharging, anything. It was really sad because that was to be a very special meal for me and it would be easy to at least try to make things right. :( Please know there are other things I am not including in this review because we are a family that has all worked in the service industry. I hate giving a negative review, but no way around this one. And, yes... my son left a substantial tip. We aren't jerks. :)
