I believe that Chez Bacchus is one of the best, if not the best restaurants in Long Beach. They have wonderful and reasonable wine selections, fantastic appetizers, and perfectly prepared entrees. Last night we had the cheese plate, baked bread, pork belly entree, shrimp pasta and basque cheesecake. All were really great. The space itself is elegant, clean and calming, and the service was expert and friendly. We were welcomed and felt as such during our entire meal. My husband and I wanted to host a celebration with our friends. We have about 25 people in our party with babies, so is definitely a baby friendly restaurant. Anthony, the restaurant manager, super informative. Explain everything to us, and even gave us tips on how to host a party. They created a pre-fix 3 course menu for us, and printed them nicely. Guests are allowed to choose the second entree and dessert, given with two options. We also added the octopus to share, on top of the menu. We love their simple but elegant decorations they put up. Exactly what we wanted!! Nothing too crazy. It felt so warm and welcoming when the owner talked to us about their vision and constantly checking on us. All our guests love the food and the cocktails are amazingly good. We absolutely love the experience and highly recommend this place to everyone!! These are the food we got (personal experience): Cocktail Athena Very impressed with the drink. It has this creamy froth on the top and it smells great!! Bacchus bread Gosh!! I want to buy a loaf home!! LoL!! You can taste the quality of the bread, and it's homemade!! I dipped it with a little bit of olive oil. The outside the of the bread is crispy and when you bite into it, the center of the bread has perfect moisture and flavorful!! Like seriously, you guys should sell them, hehe.. Charred Spanish Octopus It was tender and soft, great seasoning. I love the combination and the texture of the octopus. You can definitely taste the char, and eat it with the aioli sauce... Yumm... Delicious!!! Winter Salad Salad is delicious as well. The vinaigrette dressing is not too strong, just the right amount of vinegar. Love the butter lettuce and there's a surprise squash hidden inside the lettuce. You can taste the freshness of the lettuce, very interesting combination. Didn't expect the squash will go well with the salad. New York Strip Loin I had two bites of the steak, it has perfect seasoning. The center of the meat is juicy and tender. I'm not a steak expert, but I liked it. And all my guest who got the steaks love it. Opah (fish) My fish has perfect seasoning, the outside of the fish is crispy and the center is soft and juicy. I loved the charred cauliflower, I can eat that whole day. The sage brown butter goes well with the fish. Flourless Chocolate Torte Very thick chocolate but not too sweet. I feel slow that I've only just learned about them as they've been open for about 7 months, but I'm sure they are here to stay. A group of 6 of us went for dinner and tried the octopus, hamachi, cod, lamb tagliatelle, the vegetarian celery root, and steak! It was all delicious. I don't typically order vegetarian dishes, but was presently surprised with both the textures and flavors in mine. We topped the night off with flourless chocolate cake & the almond cake (omg! The Almond cake sooo good). My favorite thing was the incredible service and the wine presentation. So elegant. Their corkage fee is typical ($25/bottle), but they have an excellent wine list. Our waiter recommended a Cote du Rhone that was absolutely delicious for the price point. Definitely will be back. read more

Was pretty disappointed by the sloppy execution It's clear that they care and want to put on a good show but just don't have the systems set up to pull it off. It started off on a high. Charming hostess (one of the owners). Witty and pleasant server. They acknowledged our anniversary. But the service just started falling apart from there. Food - the bread basket was boring and mostly a bunch of the same bread. Served with a thimble of olive oil and balsamic. - the octopus was ok. It would benefit from a little more char. - the steak was fine but served with a whisper of chimichurri - the fish was great The wine list is robust but poorly designed. It feels like it was designed by a novice wine buyer. Lots of very similar wines in the same price range. As a former Somm, I'd love to consult and help them create something spectacular. We ordered a bottle of wine with our dinner. It arrived after we had finished our meal -- so we sent it back. The said they were giving us some desserts to make up for it. It took a LONG time. And then they were mediocre. The water service (which you pay per person for) was sloppy and we often had empty tables after. Probably won't be back. At this price point -- they've got to execute at a higher level. Our server was clearly overwhelmed. And none of the management team seemed to know how to lead a restaurant floor on a Saturday night. read more

Excellent treatment by staff every inch of the way from entry to seating to table service to wine selection to exit. Utterly delicious food: I had bison. She had shrimp ravioli. Both looked beautiful and were cooked perfectly. The wines they suggested for our meals were absolutely perfect: their wine pairing is so excellent that it is on a psychic level. They recommended a carafe of a Cabernet for the bison and a carafe of a white for the ravioli. Perfection. Beautiful space. Wonderful music. They seem happy to take both the well-dressed diners (like us) as well as those out for a more casual evening. I told the waiter (very nice fellow with long dark hair and beard) and the owner (blond fellow around 48) how much we enjoyed the entire experience. Highly recommended. read more

What a gem this beautiful Long Beach setting is indeed. John was gracious; Melissa was attentive and of course beautiful; but Danny the chef was simply superb. It was not a regular Sunday brunch, we had looked over the menu ahead of time and were hoping to be served some of the specialty dishes. The management team and chef made an exception and whipped something together for us: a beef dish, a shrimp/pasta, and a grouper speciality. We shared the dishes and were delighted by every bite, preceded by an excellent Caesar salad. What an experience. The wine was delightful and the two desserts were scrumptious. I wanted to love this place. The staff was incredibly gracious and accommodating, which is the reason for the 3 stars. They could dial it down a bit so not to be interrupting diner so frequently. Sadly, while the entree descriptions sounded great and the food looked beautiful, it lacked in flavor. If there was an option to give 10 stars , I would absolutely give it and then some. Chez now holds a special place in my heart and where ever I go I will keep this experience in mind. First off, I have to mention that I came pretty much 40 minutes before closing. I was the only other party. I felt so bad but I was so Hungry and I made the right choice by coming. From the time I walked through the door to the time I walked out, it was honestly utter perfection. I have nothing bad to say, nothing to nitpick , it was the perfect dinner experience. The host greeted me at the door and his "hello, we were expecting you" was very warm and welcoming so it set the tone in the best way. I had the perfect seat in the corner so I could see the whole restaurant. My waiter also , was the greatest waiter I have ever had at any restaurant. Wyatt was his name if I'm not Mistaken and he was awesome, that's my guy. He took care of me the whole time and I felt like I was talking to a friend. He recommended the pork chop to me and in his words he said "it's the best pork chop you'll ever have" and he was absolutely correct. That was the best pork chop I have ever had. The crust was flavorful, the meat was tender and juicy, the rhubarb compote was out of this world and the Brussel sprouts are one of those sides you could eat by itself. Accompanied by a glass of Sancerre it was an absolute perfect meal. Then the dessert just put it over the top. It was phenomenal. Nice and flaky, light but it's still sweet like you want a dessert. With the sauce and the apples ? I can't describe how perfect it was. If you're in the area and have the time to go, come here. I will miss this establishment until my return. This place is a gem, John and Rayna are the owners and they make you feel so welcomed, really enjoyed talking to them. We went for my husbands birthday dinner, Chris our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu but also lots of interesting details about France and Spain. I was looking for fine dining experience for anniversary celebrations and Chez Bacchus turned out to be a great choice. We were greeted by our host upon entrance and she made the effort to set up corner table for our party of two. The waiter is very knowledgeable of their menu and wine suggestion. Both our host and waiter were very attentive throughout the course of our dinner. The chef even came out to greet us and answer questions about their social dinner night. The restaurant ambience is pleasant with old school jazz playing in the background. You don't have to dress fancy to fit in, but you also don't want to look out of place wearing shorts and t-shirts. Our meal were very delicious, even for the vegetarian one. Chef Danny has created food experience you don't normally find in other restaurants, the ingredient, the flavors, the presentation, all very unique and pleasant. The restaurant locates right outside of the Long Beach downtown area, so you are in a quiet neighborhood but close by all the night lives after dinner. Their valet got our car ready at the door and walked to our table to hand over the keys, I thought that was a nice touch. I am definitely coming back to Chez Bacchus and looking forward to try their brunch and social dinner meal. read more
