My brother and I hosted a party of 10 here for Sunday brunch. Everything was perfect! We had reservations for 12:30 and were a little early. They seated us right away. David was our waiter and he did a fantastic job. He was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, personable, and attentive without being intrusive. He did a very nice job. He recommended we get two orders of the pastry baskets and they were spot on. Everything was fresh and delicious. My sister-in-law and I both had the shrimp and grits. The grits were creamy and perfectly cooked. The same thing with the shrimp. A lot of places tend to over cook the shrimp but not Chez Ami. These shrimp we're perfectly cooked. Others in our group had the eggs Benedict with homemade Canadian bacon. My nephew had the chicken and waffles and others had the steak and eggs. Everyone raved about how good the food was and how tasty it looked. Kudos for a spectacular job on presentation. Chef Bruce and his crew made a wonderful experience for all of us. Very beautiful hotel to stay The spa is incredible and specially in winter is amazing. Restaurant can use a new chef , I had a dinner for my birthday , the next table was laughing hysterically and very loud. Great experience dining here. Food was on point and our server, David was amazing. He was very attentive and informative. The mr had the 20oz steak with mushrooms and potatoes. The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly to medium rare just how he likes it. I got the pasta of the day which was a Cavatappi pasta carbonara. It was a small portion but perfect for me. The pancetta was melt in your mouth heaven and the pasta had so much flavor. My drink, (purple lemonade drink) was delicious, great recommendation by David! Sighhhhh where do I begin??? The only reason this place gets 1 star is because the décor is gorgeous. But that's it. Blah food and overpriced drinks. You are pretty much paying for the décor and atmosphere. So a few of my friends and I decided to come here for brunch this past Sunday. Originally we wanted to go to the VUE rooftop lounge upstairs, which I always enjoy, but today it was closed. So we thought we would try out Chez Ami, which is downstairs, for the first time. We got to the restaurant which had free valet. That was actually a nice surprise, since I was kind of worried of where to park downtown. Valet guys were super friendly. So we walk into the restaurant and was not greeted by a hostess. I had to ask the hotel front desk girls if we could sit at the bar. So we sit at the bar and our bartender barely greeted us. We got the impression that he did not want to deal with us at all. I asked if there was any drink specials and the bartender sighed and said 2 for 1 mimosas. Did not provide a price or any other recommendations. Then we ask to see a brunch menu and got attitude about that. I understand working in the restaurant field is stressful, but there was only 2 other people at the bar, so it was not busy at all. So I order the eggs benedict and usually eggs benedict comes with an English muffin. This was just potatoes under runny eggs drenched in hollandaise sauce. It was the sloppiest presentation ever. Even the lady sitting next to me asked me where was the English muffin? Later on I accidently spilled my drink on the lady sitting next to me and was handed a smelly, dirty damp rag to clean the mess. So when it was time to pay the bill, the bartender asked if we wanted to split our bills and we said yes. He then proceeded to take our credit cards without giving us the bill. Luckily my friends and I checked our bank statements on our phones. Chez Ami charged me $39 and some change to my card, which was about right, (two orders of the 2 for 1 drinks and 1 eggs benedict). So the bartender handed us back our cards and went on with his business. He never gave us a printed receipt to sign. I found it strange, so I asked the female bartender if we can have our receipts and I noticed when she went to print them at the register, she had a confused look and said she would be right back. She went to the other side of the bar where our original bartender was standing and retrieved the receipts. My bill showed $28 and some change. I asked the female bartender why there was a difference and she explained that one of my drinks were comp'd. Ok..... I am all for free drinks but 1. why was I comp'd when the bartender barely tended to us and 2. why am I still being charged the drink? All of it was real sketchy and both bartenders tried explaining that the correct amount that I am signing for will clear in my acct. I am not bright with finances but I do know that if a receipt states one amount and your acct was charged another, something is not right. I just want to know why it was ok to charge my card more than the receipt? and why was I not given a bill or paid receipt before I had to ask for it? The only thing I enjoyed from this experience was the super friendly valet guys who I generously tipped. Too bad the bartenders were sketchy or else they would have been generously tipped as well. I will never return to this restaurant, If you go to this restaurant be mindful of your charges and don't expect 5 star cuisine. I say skip Chez Ami and go straight to the rooftop bar. read more

You come here for the atmosphere...luxurious with high end wait staff, valet parking, trendy feel. Food is good too...the guys I went with swear by their burger. They ordered a side of fries with it as it comes solo. I went with the shrimp lettuce wraps special. It was good, but too small. In fact, the one guy ended up ordering a burger and fries after ordering the same thing. Nice wine list starting at $30/bottle. Free valet...just have some cash for tip. Called ahead to have 10 people for brunch at 10:30. Was told it would be "no problem." We arrived a few minutes early and they were still changing over from their complimentary breakfast for hotel guests (my brother was staying there). We were seated at 10:40. No problem. The waiter was slow but took our order after bringing water and coffee. At 11:45 everyone around us had their breakfast, some had eaten and left. A few minutes later we asked for the manager who came over in a huff, no apology but instead giving us a minute by minute assessment about why it was totally normal for our breakfast to take over an hour to be completed. We left the restaurant at noon (starving) to look for somewhere else to eat. We will never go back. read more

I typically never write reviews but....I came here for lunch as I had been so excited to try this new restaurant. I have never been so disappointed. I ordered the pesto pasta dish, and the 3 people I was with had ordered sandwiches. When my lunch came out, it was the SMALLEST plate of pasta I've seen, especially compared to the sandwiches my friends had ordered. They were the SAME PRICE, yet the amount of food I had was tiny compared to the others, and I was left starving still after lunch. In my opinion, the menu should state that this is the smaller portion (dinner menu offers two options), otherwise I would have ordered something else. When I commented on this, I was told there was nothing they could do. So I left hungry and disappointed, all while paying the same as those with much larger portions. Additionally, my friend's fries (which didn't even come with the burger, had to pay extra) had a dark hair on them which ruined her meal as well. read more

I had high expectations of this place. Charcuterie board was great. Chicken on the chicken Milanese was very over cooked and dry. Wasn't great for $32. Scallops didn't have much flavor. This letter was sent three weeks ago to the Curtiss owner & Chez Ami manager; we've still received no response of any kind: "One night in July 2019, we were celebrating not one but two happy occasions. That Tuesday we arrived early for our 7:00 p.m. reservation and we were seated right away in the patio area of Chez Ami. There were about seven people at the revolving bar, no tables inside the restaurant were occupied for dinner, and approximately three other tables on the patio were occupied, so it appeared to be a quiet evening. Our server visited our table about ten minutes after our seating and took our drink order. About fifteen minutes later, our server returned to the table without drinks to take our food order. We explained that we wanted to "pace" our dinner slowly, so we could enjoy the evening for a few hours, and he happily agreed. We ordered bread service, salads, and dinner. Our bread service arrived at the table approximately ten minutes later, but we had to ask our server once again as he passed by for the drinks that had been ordered almost half an hour prior. He brought our drinks shortly after that. The salads arrived within minutes. The problem was that, just after the salads arrived at the table, a server from the kitchen came out with the side dish we ordered with dinner, the brussels sprouts. When we told her that was ordered as a side with our dinners, she told us they were hot and it would give them a chance to cool. After our salads were finished (about 20 min. later) our server returned to the table to tell us our dinners were on their way (so much for the pacing), and he noticed the brussels sprouts that were placed on the table after the salads. He removed them and, when the dinners were brought out shortly after, what appeared to be a new iron dish of brussels sprouts was brought out. Our server explained to us, apologetically, that the staff in the kitchen was a bit "frazzled" because a family-style dinner was being prepared for a Nigerian basketball team in town who would be arriving shortly, and although the restaurant was slow (by now only one other table was occupied for dinner), everyone was quite busy. When we finished our dinners, a friendly staff member came to remove everything and box our leftovers. At this point, our server returned to the table with dessert menus and took our dessert order: bread pudding and vanilla gelato. We thought we'd enjoy our dessert, maybe another glass of wine and/or cup of coffee or cappuccino afterwards. We were never given the opportunity. Before the dessert was brought out, a staff member BROUGHT US OUR CHECK! So the process of checking us out was started before coffee or another beverage was offered, and before dessert even arrived at the table. We held onto the folder with the bill, not prepared to pay because we expected to order additional items. About fifteen minutes after ordering dessert, the kitchen staffer who brought the brussels sprouts early arrived at the table with, inexplicably, the bread pudding in one take-out container, and vanilla gelato in another take-out container (!! yes, gelato in a take-out container, already melting !!) to bring home. We looked at the items placed on the table and we asked her why these were in take-out containers...that we planned on eating them at the restaurant with coffee or perhaps wine. Her response? To get us two spoons so that we could eat them out of the take-out containers. At this point, we lost interest in dessert, coffee, wine, anything. We told our server we did not want the dessert and asked that it be taken off the bill. The fact of the matter was that we planned to spend the evening at the Curtiss enjoying a leisurely celebration. Instead, we paid $104 plus gratuity for a dinner of mishaps, only to be rushed out of the restaurant before it was even dark outside. Our server finally returned with an adjusted bill, and once again disappeared. By this time, nobody was left on the patio, and the man who boxed up our dinners was finally passing through when we asked him to please give our credit card to our server so that we could leave. We are not critical people. If this happened at a restaurant that does not have the superior status and reputation of the Curtiss Hotel, we would have been largely unaffected. It also would have been somewhat understandable had it been a busy evening for the restaurant, with more than just a few tables filled for dinner and more than just a few people at the revolving bar. We saw that the basketball team was located in one of the enclosed rooms, but the number of them plus the 2 of us still did not remotely come close to the total number of people filling a restaurant, including Chez Ami, on a busy night. For an upscale restaurant of the caliber of Chez Ami, and for an evening during which we spent more than $100 (and were prepared to spend more had we been given the opportunity), this entire experience was highly unacceptable." read more

Took the tour of the Spectacular new Curtis Hotel, which finished with lunch at Chez Ami. Went with my 80 year old mother and 82 year old Aunt. We sat at the section with floor to ceiling windowgreat for people watching. Ordered the Chez Ami burger which is the best burger I have ever tasted. Such phenomenal flavor! I was told they grind the meat themselves with sirloin and rib meat. It was cooked to perfection with homemake chips on the side. But the best part of the meal was dessert! When I heard they had homemade desserts, it was a must! It was decided we would split the Poached Apple torte. Sooo glad we did, because it was heavenly. Flakey, buttery homemade crust drizzled with Carmel sauce. I was so impressed with Chez Ami that I bought a gift certificate for a friend's birthday. I can't wait to go back! read more

To say we were excited to go to dinner at the new Curtiss hotel was an understatement. We saw how beautiful it was from outside and really looked forward to dinner inside. The decor is top notch. It's big it's grandiose but the food fell way short !!! Disappointment at every turn during dinner. The butternut squash as an app was great, very tasty. The NY strip steak was massive. Very thick and very grizzly. My wife's steak was terrible, she barely ate any of it. Mine was Ok, very little flavor not a good cut of meat all. Very disappointing from an owner of Chophouse where we have had delicious steaks there for years. Dessert was olive oil cake which was very dense and blah. We will not be dining there again. Curtiss hotel is good for Vegas priced drinks on the rooftop $10 beers $16 mixed drinks and a wonderful view of a parking garage. I'll stick to going to Russell's for great steaks. Unfortunately food standards does not meet the pricing on the menu. Very average at best food, started with crispy burrata, $14 for a ok sized piece of cheese and two grape tomatoes and some dressing drizzled on it. Ordered the striploin steak and aged ribeye. Steaks were very sub par for $48. Striploin came with bonemarrow that wasn't cooked nor served properly. I would expect a much higher quality for the prices. Also, little things like our appetizer being served within 5 min of placing the order and then 50 min wait for the entrees, mis matched silverware and our dinners being placed on the wrong table. I understand this place is new but would never recommend it to anyone or would go back. Unfortunate that we spent our 3 year wedding anniversary here. read more

Food was wildly over priced, a fish dish was $38 dollars and turned out to be a tiny piece, 1/4 cup rice, and three little pieces of veg. Drinks took 25 minutes to arrive to the table--unthinkable at 6:45 on a Saturday night! We needed to ask the waiter about the specials several times and when water refills were requested the never materialized. There are hundreds of restaurants to go to in Buffalo! We were so excited to go to Chez Ami and so very disappointed with our dining experience. The positives were the appetizers. The clams were delicious as was the fried burrata. The scallops were perfectly prepared. That's where it ended. The main courses were another thing. 2 guests ordered the filets medium rare, the steaks were served medium well to well. The halibut was over cooked, therefore very dry. The pork loin was more fat than meat, not edible. The guest wanted the chef to know about it. The chef sent a message back stating pork loin is always fatty. Our waiter was condescending and challenging. We were surprised that there were no rolls/bread offered, no soups, no main course specials. Very pricey. We won't be returning. read more

Had my wife and 8 other guests for dinner on Wednesday night. Everything started out great....appetizers were delicious. When we were ready to order we were advised that there were no vegetables available. We were told that due to the 'new menu' they didn't have any vegetables available. This posed a problem because 4 of the 10 of us are on a diet wherein we have protien and vegetables for dinner. No Polo Caps Allowed! Tattoos & Piercings welcomed! We visited the Rotating Bar recently with an out of town friend of my wifes'. My wife loved the place, as we've stopped in many times before, and she was excited to share it with her friend. We ordered a round of drinks from the barmaid. As she brought me my beer, I was asked to remove my Ralph Lauren Polo cap because "this is a 5 star, upscale establishment", the gentleman said. (As a side note, I found a picture of Hulk Hogan in the Rotating Bar with a bandanna on his head posing with Mark Croce, so I guess it depends on who's wearing head gear) I looked around the bar and saw no one else with a cap, although I did see a woman's "5 Star" breasts pouring out of her stressed out top, with tattoos all over her chest, neck, and arms. Oh, and a gentleman with piercings & tattoos. On a previous visit to the bar I remember seeing another guy with his belt half way down his butt - you know, the way the upscale cool people do. When I told them we were leaving instead, the barmaid asked if I was going to pay for my untouched beer, although she never said a word about my hat as I placed my order. We then went down to the rooftop bar @ 500 Pearl where we were "accepted" the way we were. Ironically, 500 Pearl looked much more swanky than the "upscale" merry-go-round we came from. I suggest folks check out 500 Pearl. As far as the bar that goes in circles, we won't be back, which should free up a couple seats for those with tat's, piercings & those who can't pull their pants up - you know, the sophisticated crowd. BTW, check out their Health Score! 7 Health Code violations in July of this year! They will argue that they have been corrected and verified by a followup visit by the health department, but what about those patrons that visited while they were in violation? And what does that say about their controls going forward? Doesn't sound upscale to me. Maybe that's why the bar rotates - so patrons don't hone in on violations in front of them - a moving target of violations - genius! However, the best way to avoid the violations is to simply find another establishment, which there are plenty of in Buffalo. read more

The Curtis Hotel overall is 5 stars for the city of Buffalo. This hotel is an amazing addition to the city. Chez Ami is everything you'd expect in an upscale boutique hotel. Steeper prices with smaller portions. I had the Gnocchi pasta and a bottle of Portillo red wine. Good food but the portions at other restaurants in Buffalo are so large - I left a bit hungry at Chez Ami. The Curtis is still one of my favorite atmospheres in Buffalo. read more

3.5 stars . Food was good but menu was lackluster. Bar wasn't spinning when we arrived (came on a holiday and the place was dead) no biggie we can have drinks at the table. When the drink menu came there wasn't a cocktail menu which apparently hasn't been crafted yet. Kind of disappointed but again not a biggie. No bread with dinner, ok fine but close to $10 for a basket of bread? Come on people this is buffalo for crying out loud. Ended up with glorified mac and cheese for $16 it was good but not $55 good for 2 small plates of pasta and a side order of brussel sprouts. Maybe I'm just being cheap or maybe it's just that you can find plenty of decent high end places that have more to offer and better prices for what you actually get. First time here. The food and wait staff were out of this world. The filet was one of the best I've ever had. However, the first impression was tainted by the host stand, who upon checking in greeted us with "we give tables away if you are fifteen minutes late (we were 10 minutes late on a miserable snowy evening after driving 45 minutes). A "welcome" or "good evening" would have been a better greeting from the hostess. I realize there is such a table policy, especially on busy days but the fact that the table wasn't even ready for another 20 minutes after checking in made for a tainted first impression. read more
