I am a chef and business owner. I have high standards but also understand the craziness of the industry and therefore can give a pass when a pass is due. I reviewed The Colden Mill 5 years ago. The experience was awful. After posting my review, Matt W. (Chef owner) posted a retaliatory negative review about me as a person, on my business Yelp. Matt W. has never met me nor hired us yet felt the need to retaliate. A cowardly move for sure. Today, we tried again. I'm always hopeful that improvements have been made or the last time I visited, was an off day. Not in this case. The owner and one of "Buffalo's best bartenders" was at the helm as we sat at the bar. He seemed confused that we were sitting at the bar to eat and drink. We had to ask for a drink menu. Then we waited ... he was busy chatting with his buddy who was the only other person at the bar. Chuck took so long to get back to us that a server came to take our order. Cocktails were mid, I've had better at worse places. She was lovely and took care of us as Chuck looked at his screens. Appetizer - crab cake Smelly old crab. It was massive and pressed out into the size of a pancake. The tomato/pepper relish was just chopped grape tomatoes with a strip of roasted red pepper. A relish it was not. The server removed the inedible item as the owner and one of "buffalo's best bartenders" stood by and did not engage us, did not apologize and in fact, completely avoided us (still, the only people at the bar) until we left. The Fish Fry special was cooked well but lacked flavor. The tartar sauce had a prominent flavor of horseradish which isn't typical or expected in tartar sauce. The French fries were undercooked and the slaw/mac salad was was made without regard to flavor and texture The eggplant entree was undercooked and the fresh veggie medley was over seasoned. Some of the veggies were over cooked while some were under cooked (if you know you know). Hey, Matt W and Chuck, it helps if you care and try to improve. Make Josh Allen proud. Christ, make yourselves proud.

Have not been there in probably 20 years so we figured we would give it a try for something different. The inside is so rustic. Such a cool vibe. Waitress was very pleasant and paid attention to our food allergies. Good quality drinks. Filet and steak were both delicious. We will not wait another 20 years to go back.

The food is always on point and the service is great. We didn't have a reservation for Saturday night we walked in a little after 7pm and had no problem getting a table. Quick service to be able to get food while very hungry, as almost all tables in the restaurant had been occupied. Ambiance was relaxing sitting next to the fireplace and lighting was low with a candle lit on the table. Very nice for a date night! We would go back anytime fore sure.

Went here on a Wednesday evening during phase four Covid reopening, we made a reservation although the restaurant advised us that they were not very busy. We opted to sit on the open patio even though it was threatening to rain. While we were seated it did rain but the tree cover was thick enough to not allow many drops to reach the table, we stayed outside. Order a deep fried Brie which was fabulous along with a bottle of California wine, also quite tasty. Our server was pleasant and attentive throughout the evening. I ordered a porterhouse steak special which was equally delightful over rice. We finished off the meal with a rice pudding dessert. This seems like a diamond in the rough as we have been here twice and it was uncrowded yet fantastic each time.

I just needed to have something to look forward to and that felt "normal" during this crazy time, so I made a reservation for here. Even though we live relatively close, for some reason we had just never been here before. I read the reviews and somehow it looks like we missed a great restaurant. When we arrived, we were seated right away. The staff all were wearing masks and the tables were well spaced out. I felt comfortable ! Our waitress couldn't have been nicer. She was so friendly and spoke so fondly about some of the menu items, that we have to go back and try others that we discussed. We both had whiskey sours that were fantastic. My husband and I love French onion soup, so when we saw on the menu an onion soup made "two ways" we were curious. When it arrived it came inside of a bowl that had two reservoirs. One contained a rich dark traditional looking onion soup topped with a crisp bread and cheese, while the other had a creamy white onion soup. We can't say enough and how much we love that soup! It was as delicious as it was unique. I'm just sorry that we forgot to get a picture of it. My husband ordered a filet that was on the specials menu and I ordered the crab topped fish. My fish was delicious, but I got a taste of his steak dunked in the Demi glaze sauce and it literally melted in my mouth! Wow!! We were too full from the meal for dessert, but everything was so well prepared that we had to see what they do for dessert, so we took them home..lol. I had a rice pudding with almonds, cinnamon and dried fruit. Just fantastic. My husband had a brownie dish with ice cream, yes they packaged that up separately to assemble at home, and it came with fresh fruit. So good! We are so happy we found this great restaurant, so close to home.

This place was so cute inside, I went about a month ago and the decorations for Christmas were so cute. The coconut shrimp was huge and so delicious. The French onion soup was good and fun to try it a different type of way.

Had 2 apps, coconut fried shrimp & calamari. Shrimp was really great, fresh crisp nice flavor. Calamari was good but a tad over seasoned for my taste. We had the bacon wrapped meatloaf & duck for our entree. My wife really enjoyed the meatloaf. Very moist and definitely made with love. The duck was moist and paired perfectly with the sauce. The crown jewel of the evening was the peach amaretto cheesecake. Soooo delicious.

Fresh bread brought to keep us entertained until food arrived. Very good.

A solid four stars. The service was excellent. They had plenty of staff on hand and they all seemed to work together. Food was good, quite a few beers on tap, friendly staff. We will definitely be back.

Contacted the restaurant for a private party for 30+ people. Chuck and Matt put together a lovely menu and provided us with the best service! The character of the restaurant is amazing and the staff is outstanding! Thank you! It's April and snowing in Colden. The Colden Mill brought me a fabulous onion soup, roasted romaine and gorgeous banana fritters... Perfect! If nothing else... The banana fritters will change your mood, period. A DON'T MISS! It's Autumn and gorgeous, a beautiful view out every window! Prime rib, chicken wrapped in bacon, potatoes lasagne, pumpkin cheesecake, chocolate bread pudding and apple fritters with ice cream! Absolutely delicious! Thank you Chrissy for a lovely night! It's December! 'Tis the Season to be Jolly! Grilled romaine, Broiled Haddock... saving calories for desserts! Servers are lovely, ambiance is perfect. Cheers!

That's not to diminish the meat and potatoes being served up three nights a week. You will literally step back in time as you ascend the single step up into the rustic bar. The ambiance is so thick you can cut it with a knife. The interior spaces are a warren of wood paneled, timbered ceilings, wallpapered rooms, carpeted floors, lantern lit and heavily decorated with early American memorabilia. The doggie decor in the tap room is interesting, especially to a dog lover like myself. We had been warned that The Dog Bar fills up fast, so reservations are strongly recommended. We arrived at 5:30 pm to a neat-capacity situation on a Friday night. We also had been warned that dinner service would take between two to three hours due to traditional cooking methods, no air fryers or microwaves anywhere! So let's talk about the much anticipated food experience. We sat for the better part of an hour with our glasses of water before our cups of soup arrived at the table. The salad course came along 20 minutes later along with a basket of muffins and some of the best buttermilk biscuits I've ever had. They were tender and moist, slightly sweet and fluffy with a nice crumble on top. The salad was not memorable. The Dog Bar must be doing something right! Every table was full, the place was slamming-busy on this evening. Many of the patrons seemed to be regulars, comfortable with the menu and the wait staff. I ordered the porterhouse steak, baked potato and green beans. My steak was done correctly, was tender enough. Nothing stood out, for example there was no fancy compound lemon-garlic cracked pepper butter, no sautéed onions. This steak had to carry the whole meal on its own. My husband held his comments until we got home. His fried seafood platter did not live up to his expectations. The thin fish cutlet was dried out during the fry process. He loves his coleslaw and potato salad, so this was a huge disappointment for him. We ordered a Peanut Butter Mud pie to split. It was delicious and it arrived at 7:30 pm. I can't say that we'd return. There are much better restaurants in the vicinity.

The restaurant itself was super cozy very dark and eclectic. For the soup I had the onion soup and I was actually pretty underwhelmed with it. The rolls were absolutely phenomenal, fresh baked biscuits that were warm(always a bonus) and then cornbread with butterscotch chips which was one of my favorite parts of the whole meal. Got a house salad which was just iceberg lettuce 2 croutons and 2 tomatoes the house dressing was good but would have liked a little more toppings on my salad. For my meal I got the surf and turf the lobster was absolutely delicious!!! However my steak was very rare and I didn't even eat it, going to take it home and re-cook it. The baked potato have a chive sour cream which was amazing. The green beans were cold, like refrigerator cold. Also took all those home and going to reheat them so at least I have another meal to take home . Had a little cup of coffee after dinner and since it was my birthday they brought out a little confetti cake which was so moist and the frosting was phenomenal. Then back home for massage chair time and the cutest cookie cake ever!

The opportunity finally presented itself and, overall, it was a really nice experience! Three of us had made reservations for 6pm on a Thursday and when we arrived, there were zero issues. Parking for Harvest is primarily street parking but there are smaller parking lots nearby. The interior comes across fancy, modern, with nice views of Main St. and as you walk in to the dining room, the open-kitchen to our left and a warmly lit, nicely stocked bar to our right. We were seated at a table towards the middle of the dining room. At 6pm, most tables were empty but when we were leaving there were a good amount of people at both the bar and seated in the dining room, so it seems like people tend to come for a later meal. Our waitress came over and poured us waters and provided drink and food menus. This was a first for me - the menus lit up! Our waitress though was incredibly courteous and personable, she did a fantastic job checking on us. To kick the evening off, I ordered their Honey Hibiscus cocktail, which is mezcal, Grand Marnier, hibiscus, ginger, honey, cinnamon, lime, and fee foam. This was a nicely balanced cocktail with a more floral, fruity flavor. With the open kitchen concept, it was neat to see the chef and cooks working on our meals as we relaxed, talked, and munched on some warmed focaccia-like bread with a freshly made balsamic, olive oil, herb dip. The bread was so soft with the perfect amount of chew on the crust/exterior, and served warm. For dinner, I ordered Pappardelle Mornay and added (perfectly grilled) chicken breast for a few more dollars, which is simply pappardelle pasta in a creamy cheese mornay. Our waitress crushed some black pepper atop my dish before I started in. This was excellent - The pasta itself tasted so fresh, the cheese mornay was indeed very creamy, and the grilled chicken breast was cooked, seasoned, cut, and portioned perfectly. I am really glad I added the chicken breast to this dish as I'm not sure the pasta itself would've filled me up. I'd definitely order this again! To wrap up our meal, since it was Thursday, there's a "1/2 off Nightcaps" special, so each of us enjoyed a cold foam espresso martini afterward, which is coffee-infused vodka, Nue vodka, FAIR Café liqueur, dark crème de cacao, Steamworks espresso, chocolate bitters, vanilla syrup, and topped with an infused cold foam, which we went with the Frangelico Hazelnut cold foam, and a few espresso beans. This was ridiculously rich and delish! Harvest is an intimate, elevated dining experience, designed to have you stay a while, relax, and enjoy a more personal meal. All of us really enjoyed our evening here and have nothing but high praise for the staff and quality food. This isn't a fast, casual, cheap sit-down meal, but it's an experience worth the higher price. I look forward to coming back!

The live piano music was a nice touch, though we all agreed a tad loud to support dinner conversation. From start to finish, everything was pleasing, beginning with cocktails, the Bison ribs app, root salad, & entrees. We didn't order dessert, but I saw some others getting delivered, and they looked delicious. Service was excellent. We'll be back!
