Why have I not updated my review! Been here at least 5 times since. The food here never disappoints and the service is spot on. Today I had the prime rib with smashed potatoes and corn. They have the recipe from the Friars table that was here before. Melt in your mouth tender with au jus and horsey sauce. Will be back soon for my Cajun, creole cravings!

We were seated immediately by the waitress/hostess/bartender, and there's a full bar plus signature cocktails to choose from. This is a great place for a first date: The music is lively Delta/Memphis blues by Howlin' Wolf, Big Joe Turner, Bonnie Raitt, et al. Everything was attractively plated and perfectly cooked. I'm used to Southern cooking having a bit more mustard or cayenne or black pepper in it, but every table has four different bottles of hot sauce for your own adjustments. Private parking lot.

Food was delicious! So many options . Service was good not great , i'm thinking maybe she was new . She didn't know about a lot of items on menu . Coffee took over half hour to come , food was almost an hour ! For a small dining room it was not loud at all .

Heard good things about this place and decided to give it a try. The food here is so delicious. The waiters are very attentive. If you love Cajun/New Orleans type of food, then you will love it here. I will definitely come back soon.

Waitress was exceptionally - only she & bartender were in front of house...busy but did an exceptional job. Our happy hour fried pickles & crab cakes were delicious! Birthday celebrant hubs enjoyed his Yuengling, and full rack of ribs w/greens. The hush puppies - awesome! My seafood enchilada platter was suberb! this place - great menu w/terrific specific to day of the week specials, & casual atmosphere!

Food was excellent a bit spicy but that's NO Cajun style and I enjoy the spice lol. Waited 15 minutes before being brought a menu and asked what did we want to start with drink wise. Understandable as the waitress was handling the bar, take out orders, and the dine in tables, geesh..... Food portions nice the shrimp Po Boy was bomb. The gumbo was a bit too thick and pasty needed water but wasn't totally inedible. The only awkward and I mean awkward part (and reason for 3 stars) was when the waitress brought the check and said I'm going to turn around and wait and see how much you leave for a tip. Which we left 20% but that was wayyyy over the top and completely awkward and strange!!!

My mom and I come here at least every 6 months to enjoy New Orleans inspired food and have a good time. On this particular visit, my mom found it to be disappointing. Normally, it is extremely delicious. For starters, we ordered the Cajun popcorn, which are crawfish. They were absolutely delicious and it was served with a great remoulade. I ordered the blackened shrimp dinner. It came with coleslaw, Cajun rice and I chose the corn maque choux as my serious side. I really enjoyed my dinner. Everything was great and paired well. The corn was the big winner though. My mom ordered what she normally gets, the shrimp creole. She found it very salty and not as liquid-y as it had been in the past. It comes with bread to soak up the sauce, and she hardly used any because it wasn't saucy. The service was great and I liked the subtle decorations up for Christmas.

Everything was tasty. The Po Boy sandwiches were huge. The seafood jambalaya was very good and the red beans and rice was spot on. This was the best Cajun food I've had outside New Orleans. Definitely going back.

Finally got back to Chester's after quite a dry spell. It was worth the wait. We went in at lunchtime and were the only people there besides one guy at the bar. My one friend ordered the fried shrimp basket and an order of poutine. Both looked really good. My other friend and I both ordered the Big Easy Combo. With this you get chicken & andouille gumbo, seafood jambalaya (loaded with shrimp and crab meat), and red beans & rice. Perfect dish for those that can't make up their mind). All were great but next time I'll get the big bowl of gumbo. I felt like I could close my eyes as I was eating and picture myself sitting in New Orleans. Memories! 2021-142

The French Quarter with Greens

Blackened Shrimp appetizer 8/10. Right amount of heat on the shrimp. Flavored well. Rice was over cooked. Very soft and mushy. Sauce on the side was a little spicy, but like franks spicy with red pepper flakes. The Carolina 10/10. Pork was cooked well, the Carolina sauce is almost like pure vinegar by itself, but good in the sandwich. The creole mayo mixed with the tomato and pickle juice is such a great flavor. Slaw has the perfect amount of wetness. All the different flavors together blend very well to create the sandwich as a whole. Baked Mac and cheese (side) 8/10. Little loose. I wish the cheese sauce stuck to the noodle more. As it cooled, the cheese started getting gritty. The French quarter 10/10. Kyles rating. The meat was seasoned/blackened well. Meat was cooked good. Ellicottville BA raspberry beret sour. 1/5. Tastes like blueberries not raspberries. Gross. I only took 2 sips.

What a nice surprise!! I basically played spin the YELP wheel while searching for a new restaurant to visit for dinner. Yes, there's an inherent risk in associating Cajun and Buffalo with the Cajun eatery sitting inside a once popular upscale restaurant setting (The Friars Table held a prestigious reputation for years at this location but I never dined there.). As I walked into this VERY CASUAL and welcoming bar/eatery my first thoughts were 'how in the world was this ever an elegant restaurant' when it looks like a bar just off of Bourbon Street. Casual friendliness with all kinds of specials had me searching for some beads!! If you want shiny silver and china plates to match your pressed trousers and starched shorts this is not your place but put on your jeans and T because you are going to feel at home! The menu is packed with appealing choices but Tuesdays offer discounts on the blackened menu so I ordered blackened catfish on Cajun rice with some slaw and my choice of side Chester's Greens. And, as a soup lover I could not turn down a ladle full of goodness from one of the kitchen's "Kettles" so I went roasted corn and shrimp chowder. Plus a 'shandy' for my beverage of choice (A nice selection of brews were offered too.). That chowder arrived lookin' oh so good with Cajun aromas floatin' through the air! Dipping my spoon into the blend returned a picturesque "roux" of ingredients that satisfied! Not overwhelming heat just Cajun kick that those who regularly turn down hot sauce would enjoy. Not a lot of shrimp for which it is named but deliciously filling. The cup was a perfect portion. When blacked is done right you can smell it ... you can see it and my oh my you can taste it. I am sure you have guessed already my blackened catfish was nearly perfect. Darn nearly ... it's hard to keep blacked catfish moist and tasty and that is where Chester (or whoever was in the kitchen) let me down just a little. However the taste was a winner blended with the "Cajun" rice on which it was placed. Really good slaw and mmmmmmm those greens! I walked out thinking about what I will order on my next visit.

The Hostess was very friendly & accommodating. Sooner after our waitress Hannah came over with menus & asking if we would like something to drink, we ordered a beer & a soda. After receiving our drinks we placed our order for a Broiled Cajun & a Chicken Caesar Wrap with fries, my fish was ordered with Home fries. When the meals arrived the Wrap looked great and turned out to be really good as for my Fish, I was totally surprised regarding the size. To me it was smaller than 1/2 a fish and based on the lack of Cajun spice i know it was not going to be tasting very Cajun (I was right, zero Cajun flavor). The Home Fries where well over done and quantity was unbelievably small, the coleslaw was very tasty but not cold, which is a turn-off for me, Also NO Mac. Salad. Overall for $18.95 the Fish was not good! the Wrap was good. The beer was not cold either I had to ask for a pint glass with ice. Probably would not return for Fish. Check this spot out! You will not be disappointed.

The bartenders were all friendly, but Tom was particularly helpful. Checking to mate sure that everything was good and offering suggestions. I ordered steak in au gratin potatoes. He brought me cheese bread that was phenomenal. It was served with butter and some sort of sauce that I didn't try. I got a new york strip that was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The au gratin potatoes were shredded potatoes. They were okay but definitely not what I would have expected at a steakehouse. I would not order them again. We ordered a variety of appetizers, and the meatball and Mediterranean platters remain my favorites. You must try their homemade pita--light, airy, and with just the right chew. They absolutely know how to do steak. My side of almond broccolini unexpectedly stole the show. The bright burst of lemon was the perfect complement, cutting through the richness of the mashed potatoes and filet. As for dessert? Hands down, the chocolate mousse cake. If you're getting it to go, be sure to ask for the coffee gelato before you leave--don't miss out on this perfectly smooth, rich treat. Our guests are still talking about their meals!
