I'm a total French toast enthusiast and this place knocked it out of the park! The crunchy was good but the Cherry Pit French toast was were it's at!! Holy smokes!!! Standard greasy spoon fare with mediocre appeal. The service is friendly but a bit labored. Potatoes with breakfast were plentiful but hard and chewy, not well-seasoned. The amount of corned beef hash seemed like a spoonful and not much different than the canned stuff. The plate was mostly filled with the aforementioned potatoes. Meh. The name was intriguing and given the location we were expecting something fresh and well-made. The atmosphere is 1950's kitchen with a nice mural. Tight tables and very loud. My daughter owns Glamour Girlz Central in Highland Park and we frequently order here Food is always fresh and very good . I love the Denver omelette not all restaurants can cook a non greasy one and this one is delicious. We tried the salads, turkey club always good . I also love the fact you can sub fruit instead of hash browns and they give you a good portion of it not like some other places. read more

05/06/25 - I stopped by here twice before. I was in the neighborhood so i met my sister up here for breakfast. I popped in again & ordered the Chorizo skillet. This came w/chorizo, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, onions, shredded cheddar cheese & eggs over easy on top. This was all served over a large very thin tortilla. I tour off piece of tortilla & put the pieces of the chorizo skillet on top & popped it into my mouth. It was delicious as usual. My sister ordered a Greek Skillet that came w/chicken gyros, spinach, tomato, onion & feta cheese that looked delicious. The staff @ Cherry Pit Cafe is awesome friendly w/great service. From the pictures it looked like a cute retro diner. The front has that look, but the back looked like a country cafe. Not what I expected. The food was good. But the service was so bad. We were seated and got to order pretty quickly, but they NEVER came back to check on us even once while we there. I tried to get anyone's attention because my partner had ordered a fruit salad with his omelette and it never came. I had the oatmeal pancakes which definitely were exactly as described. read more

I love the Cherry Pit. Their Belgian waffles with strawberries are otherworldly. I don't know how they do it - they're just waffles - but there's a puffiness and an underlying sense of...vanilla, maybe? that I think makes them some of the best waffles everrrr. Love the atmosphere - pretty much an old school diner. and they're really attentive to my coffee mug. Staff seem happy you're there and hve a good low-key energy. Only complaint are the prices. It can get steep so I only go every few months. Always worth it. read more

Great diner. Used to go here when it was Kevin's Place and went back recently with my family. Kids loved sitting at the counter to watch our food get cooked. I cleaned my plate. I ordered an egg white omelette and it was delicious. They also have cold brew which was excellent. Portions are large so come hungry. Owners now are so nice! Lots of regulars came by for Sat brunch. Ambiance is good, diner feel with black and white checkered floors. Will come back when I'm in the area. read more

This cute cafe/diner is perfect for an early morning breakfast. We arrived before 9 am on a Sunday, the ideal time because there were many open tables. There's a pretty extensive menu, and one of us went for the Lucy's Waffle special, a crispy Belgian waffle with Nutella, bananas, strawberries, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Another picked the buttermilk pancakes (2) and kept saying that it was cooked perfectly. Normally a light eater, they ate every bit of their pancakes. I ordered the Greek skillet with eggs, chicken gyros, onions, spinach, tomatoes and feta on top of fried potatoes. This was hearty and generously sized. The ambience is similar to a retro diner, with fifties tunes playing. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and our orders were up quickly. It's a little tight to navigate past the counter seating and once the place fills up it can get loud. We had a very enjoyable breakfast and my companions had a great time. They kept telling me how much they loved their breakfast. We'll come back again soon! read more

We can't get here often amd it is a shame. Everything is just better. Today we ordered chicken mole enchiladas with 2 eggs, which was some of the best mole sauce IMO. My daughter order her favorite, huevos rancheros and said they were her favorite anywhere. But the oatmeal pancakes with coconut and blueberries that was on the specials menu was some of the best pancakes I ever had. Totally unique in texture and flavor. The pop you get from the blueberries mixes so well with the coconut. The service is fantastic. The place is very cute with oldies playing over the sound system. So fresh and homemade. We were from out of town and saw the reviews and decided to come. I had the oatmeal pancakes and they were filing without making you feel too full. My friends and I were in town for a wedding a randomly came upon Cherry Pit when looking for good breakfast/brunch spots. Upon arriving, we were greeted so warmly, we felt like we were walking into an auntie's kitchen. The food was absolutely incredible, the service was excellent and very fast, and we found a place I know we will return to for years to come. This place has such a wonderful concept, and it fails to deliver so much. We were charmed to find a local diner with a name like the "cherry pit." We fully anticipated finding warm cherry pie on the menu, but were disappointed that this is nothing more than an anachronism (perhaps from previous owners). No pie, and in fact, no cherries on the menu. Knowing this ahead of time, we decided to try the place out anyway, and unfortunately were left further disappointed. The food is bland, the ingredients are cheap, and the quality is low. The good news is, the portions are huge, so if you're hungry, you'll at least leave full (if you have an appetite). I ordered the chorizo skillet but found very little chorizo on my plate; what was there was so underseasoned I could not distinguish it from a mild Italian sausage. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. We wanted so much to enjoy this place, because we find diners to be charming, but unfortunately the only charm this place has left is the service, which is friendly and down to earth. Maybe it was an off day, but if you read through reviews, they'll generally align on portion sizes being large but food being under-seasoned. The sweeter breakfast items may be what we missed - perhaps that's where the charm is to be found. We'll come back around sometime to check out the French toast and oatmeal pancakes - maybe it'll change our minds. read more

A coworker was in town, and we were looking for a local area to check. To say that after eating here for lunch, we immediately came back the next day is an understatement. On the first day, I could only enjoy my meal a couple of hours later; the food was still surprisingly warm and enjoyable. We were fortunate enough to meet the owner on the second day, and you can tell that he cares about the customers and his employees. WOW! Such a great little cafe. When you walk in you can't see the whole back area where most people were seated. We only got breakfast but the lunch looked just as good!! I got the triple berry crunchy French toast - this wasn't listed on the menu but you can ask for it. It seemed like it was a little twist to their originally crunchy French toast. AMAZING. I am going to dream about this French toast... We also got the Big B - it truly is big! The potato's were so yummy as well. Kind of an inbetween of hash browns and potatoes. Food was not to bad. Something you would expect at a typical diner. Quick service but no table touches until the very end there was only about three or four tables. Tea selection was nice not something I would normally see at a diner. Mixed menu selection mostly Spanish style food with some classics. Parking in the back is free and accessible. I'm a bit disappointed but I did like my food and my brother said he's been here a few times and liked it so I'm giving it the benefit of doubt. I wouldn't come here for a holiday as they can get overwhelmed as it's a small place. It's Mother's Day so it was super busy and I also have to take that into consideration as well. Even though we had a reservation, it took longer to be seated and get our food (but again, it was Mother's Day). I loved my French toast and bacon. My mother loved her corn beef and hash even though they originally got the order wrong but fixed it pretty quick. My brother's waffle was literally burnt and he couldn't eat it. We parked in the parking lot in the rear of the establishment and you have to walk around the building to the entrance. We came in just after breakfast rush and we sat in the dining room at the back, instead of the counter in the front. The wait staff was very friendly and made us feel welcomed. I had the Apple Chicken Sausage skillet and my wife chose the Deerfield Omelet. The food arrived promptly and piping hot. Both meals were delicious and we will be returning to try out more of the menu. read more

An old school breakfast place that features lots of Mexican style options. I had the breakfast burrito, it was large and filled with lots of yummy goodness. The French toast was pretty standard and the bacon was done extra crispy, the way we like it. Wish they had more choices of teas for us tea drinkers. read more
