I was in Deerfield for a weekend. I stopped in the first morning for a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on Garlic bagel and Diet Black Cherry Dr Brown's. I also got a bialy and a pumpernickel bagel to bring back to the hotel for others. These bagels were perfect. Nice and chewy. The crust was smooth and shiny and the interior was dense. No notes. So good I went back the following morning on my way out of town for an Egg Everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. If I lived anywhere near here I'd be here multiple times a week. I took a chance on this place for lunch and I'm thrilled that I did. What a fantastic experience. A traditional family owned east coast deli experience. So many delicious things to choose from - bagels, smoked fish, various salads, meats, cheeses, and more. I picked up the corned beef hash (excellent, but would like a bit more crisp), and a salami sandwich on a Supreme bagel (very tasty; a perfect bagel packed high with toppings, but difficult to eat). I ordered online for pick up and immediately headed to the store. My order was ready when I arrive (within 10 minutes of ordering). I would be back in a heartbeat if I lived closer. read more

This is a fine restaurant with delicious food but it was almost impossible to order any of it. Patrons were forced online with no where to go. If you went to the restaurant in person they would not let you order forcing you to go online to order anything. I wanted to order only bagels and there was no way to do that. Was disappointed when I went there to get bagels a couple days ago they tasted very soggy and almost like they were day old bagels not crisp like I had a couple months ago. Also, the prices are pretty high especially for hand cut lax. It's like $60 a pound, which is pretty crazy even for Deerfield. read more

I visited on a Sunday, late morning, and didn't have to wait long at all to order. The staff hustle to turn orders around to free up space inside. I ordered the Bacon, Egg & Cheese on a Sesame bagel and my fiancé ordered the Herbed Multigrain with Lox Cream Cheese. While the filling may not look to be a lot, the flavor really burst to life while eating. I will be thinking of my Bacon, Egg & Cheese bagel all week; it was that good! We both left feeling impressed by the fresh flavors, speedy service, variety of flavors/offerings, and down to earth staff. My boyfriend and I have been coming here for years! We've always loved everything from here, but I was so appalled by the way we were treated when we came in today. When I ordered, the man behind the counter made a mistake (it's busy, totally understandable!) but then when I asked if they could fix it, instead of making it right he tried to prove me that I was wrong, and remade my sandwich but still did it incorrectly, with no toppings or cream cheese. Because apparently paying $50 for two bagel sandwiches and two drinks also allows people to treat you poorly! My boyfriend went back in to complain and walked into hear the men behind the counter talking negatively about him in Spanish for asking them to fix their mistake. The owner's son didn't do much to make it right. We'll be contacting the owner, but we will for sure never be coming back! On top of the cooks being rude, they also began checking people out while I was there checking out with the owner's son and laughed when someone pushed me. This place is hustling and bustling on a Sunday morning. We always saw this place from the outside and didn't look like much, but when you get inside it's a whole other world. Tons of options of bagels and fillings, including lox and onions, chorizo, eggs and cheese, etc. They also sell fish and deli meats by the weight - feels like you're in New York City or something. We got the chorizo eggs and cheese breakfast sandwich, which was delicious. The lox and onions sandwich was good too but maybe even better deconstructed to really taste the lox. if you are from the northeast upper crust looks like the real deal. but don't be fooled. I was looking forward to chewy boiled and baked bagels and bialys that are baked after several rises and punch downs of the dough making a firm dough that toasts up crunchy and doesn't yield to a schmeer of cream cheese or butter. Both my baker's dozen bagels and 3 bialys were awful, baked from a dough with no gluten and left to rise like white bread. The onion topping on the bialy was loose. I have been coming here for years, for breakfast before work, on the weekends, etc. I have never had an experience this bad anywhere before. This was the absolute most insulting customer service I've ever had. As of Today I will never be coming back. It was busy inside this morning and I didn't want to make a scene, so I am writing this and contacting the owner. Both of my bagels were to be toasted, they didn't toast one, and tried to play it off like they didn't hear me. We said toasted three times. They obviously did hear, and after getting them to remake the sandwich, it still had no toppings and the wrong cream cheese. Unbelievable. This got me upset enough to go back in and complain. When I went in to complain, the owners son made it right and was helpful. The thing that really got me upset though, was the man with the hairnet and mustache trying to brush me off, and the balding man with no hairnet behind the counter obviously saying something smart in Spanish and making fun of me and my gf. He didn't know I was right behind him the whole time. He jumped a bit when he turned around and saw me standing behind him. Jokes on you guys. I speak Spanish. Those guys making the sandwiches shouldn't be anywhere near customers. Truly insulting, and I could tell the entire time that the people I was asking to make my order right just wanted to get me out of there. Terrible communication and truly insulting. I will be letting everyone I know that this is how the customers are treated when the owner isn't there. That's more expensive than Once Upon A Bagel in HP. Maybe their using small diamonds rather than sesame seeds now? My husband and discovered this place early afternoon this past Saturday. I wasn't sure what to think, because it's a bit of a hole in the wall with the entrance at the back of the building. It's a small space with tons of local traffic flowing in and out. Several reviewers have said that the staff is rude, I'd just call it indifferent. It was hard to catch the eye of anyone to place an order. My husband and I ordered breakfast sandwiches - I ordered the turkey pastrami with egg and cheese on a whole wheat herb bagel and he had the brisket with egg and cheese on an everything bagel. Now think about it, they didn't toast the bagels or ask if we wanted them toasted - I guess we will have to request this next time. The bagels were very good and the meats on the sandwiches were tasty as well. The establishment was busy and a big confusing as to who was in line or being helped. We made it through though, and did enjoy our mid-morning breakfast. Out breakfast sandwiches were around $6 each, but their other regular sandwiches run around the ten dollar mark. I opted for the corned beef egg cheese on an everything bagel, it was delicious. This place I would say is NY style, and does a swift business based on traffic in and out. Had such a taste for a bagel after the gardens! So I searched and found this location ! Four people allowed at a time! Masks required ! New York bred person with a New York attitude about bagels. While the town I grew up in had 3000 bagel spots, most were money laundering places, you still had your favorites. When I moved out here, I was constantly in search of my bagel spot. While living in the city, there were some pretenders, but nothing ever lived up to the expectation of pure yummy deliciousness. When I was moving out here, people swore by other places, but they too, missed the mark completely. It wasn't until I found Upper Crust that my life was changed. Very good bagels sandwiches! We got a large to go order for about 50 bagel sandwiches. They organized it very nicely for our team to find their order. They did not mess up anyone's order which was very impressive. Bagels were wrapped nicely and looked very presentable. Due to our to-go order, our bagels were not hot and straight out of the oven. However, they still tasted delicious and I bet they are even better in store. I liked the way they cut up their bacon into pieces. This was unique for a bagel sandwich place but I really liked it. Location: This place is located BEHIND Waukegan road, so I had to turn around and come back, after driving past the address. Small shop, but plenty of options. Food: The bagel and lox was a very good, but necessarily a good value. Dropped about $17 for just the bagel, cream cheese and lox. There was an ok amount of lox, masked by tomato and onion. I'm very disappointed in my Easter delivery. I have family in from out of town and ordered appropriately for everyone, including 8 muffins, but only 4 were delivered. When I called the store they explained I only paid for 4. But I ordered online. I checked my order and it indicated 8 muffins were ordered but they only charged me for 4. Apparently it's a known issue at the store but they never contacted me to correct the order. They just delivered the 4 muffins like that was going to be ok. Also, don't bother with their weekend lox and bagels special. They literally deliver everything separately including a whole onion and a whole tomato. Thanks I guess? They do sell presliced veggies but that's not included with this "special". I think it's actually cheaper to order everything a la carte rather than the special. Lastly, the bagels were fresh and very good. But the gluten free bagels are pre-made, prepackaged bagels. I guess I just expected more for this store for the price. read more
