I was turned on to this place by an employee of a company I was consulting at for several weeks. He raved about this place and he was absolutely correct: This is a great place to hang out. Unlike some other lounges that have flat screens and other distractions, this place has non. There is nothing flat here, yes I am talking about the waitress that works on Tuesday nights: WOW. Its a laid back place, where you can sit with friends, grab a beer and enjoy a nice smoke. They are open late and service is just right, as the ladies tend to sit around and chat with their friends or themselves, which is part of what makes this place great. No one is hounding you to get another drink,etc. When you are running low, then one would walk over and offer to grab another. Ideally they would have a better selection of cigars, but the selection they do have is priced reasonably well. I wish we had something like this back in Chicago, but alas we can not have liquor and cigars in the same location. Damn politicians! We can have 3,000 calorie pizza slices, but no cigars and booze: that's bad for you. This is one of the few things I will miss from my 2+ month stay in the area. read more

So in November I went PR to visit family, and a couple of friends and I spent a lot of our time in a cigar/whiskey lounge. Now I'm not a huge cigar fanatic but hand me a good cup of whiskey and I'm down for a good cigar. Anyways! I was speaking to my friends about wanting to go whiskey tasting and him and his wife suggested that we go to a cigar lounge. Obviously there are plenty of them here in San Francisco but being that they're from Modesto they suggested we make the nearly 2 hour drive here. And I must say it was definitely worth it. The ladies were super nice and made sure that we were taken care of, the suggestions they gave me were so helpful because I was totally lost and had no idea what to pair my cigar with. The atmosphere in here was really chill and very welcoming and the very expensive Suntory Toki whiskey I had tasted amazing and had a really smooth finish. Cheroot Cigar Lounge - Lounges Near Me - Modesto, California

1st off I am so glad this place is here. I have been twice once on a Tuesday and once on a Thursday. The Tuesday experience was relaxed refined and the service was great. The blonde who helped our group was attentive and genuine in her service delivery. The liquor on hand is what you would expect in an upscale cigar bar. We could not wait to get back. The Thursday experience is what took it down a star. The crowd was ghetto, I say backwards ball caps and there was a very loud liars dice game being played by a group that cried, time to raise the prices. The Security was less than welcoming when we arrived and the woman with the greatest tattoo I have ever seen, who said she was the owner, hovered over a couple of patrons and we had to interrupt her to get our check and get out of there. This spot has a ton of potential. It reminds me of some of the upscale spots in the city. This is a very approachable cigar bar but has a great supply on hand if you didn't come with your own. I recommend earlier in the week if you want to hear what the people at your table are saying. All that said, I cannot wait to get back there. It was perhaps an off night. read more

Lounge was cool. Wasn't too impressed with the selection of cigars but it's alright for a local spot. The cigars here seemed a bit overpriced. However, service was really good and the place has a nice atmosphere. Furniture feels a little old and broken down. Overall place is ok and I would probably go again. read more

This is my favorite bar. The staff is friendly and casual and the owner also owns the speakeasy on 12th Street, her name is Gina. Really nice woman with a neurotic dog that is cute but shy. There are not very many places to enjoy a drink and a smoke, cigars, pipe tobacco or cigarettes. They also have humidifier lockers you can rent to store your tobacco items. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. I arrived to Cheroot around 9:45 pm on a Saturday, 1/30 with a group of 5 close friends. We sat at the corner sectional and upon arriving we were ID'd to which one friend realized they had forgotten their ID at the golf course earlier that day. One friend ordered a glass of wine, the other a jack and coke plus a cigar. We began playing a game of solitaire when the bartender approached us. This red headed woman (I believe by the name Jennifer) cynically said, "Your game looks cute but there a $10 minimum to sit in here"...two of my friends quickly ordered some cocktails. When she came back she condescendingly said "Also I know you forgot your ID and the only reason I'm letting you stay here is because there's not a lot of people here but I'm going to kick you out if more people come". We were in utter shock, two of the people in the group are regulars and said they had never experienced such terrible treatment at Cheroot before and the only thing we could attribute it to is that we're young adults. We were by no means being rowdy or disruptive, just a few friends trying to enjoy an chill evening. We immediately left and long story short, we won't ever be returning after such a horrible experience. read more

Alright place, serves alcohol, decent cigar selection, decor is cool. lots of couches and tables and its the first time I have been to a cigar lounge that has private cigar lockers - and nicely laid out. BUT if you're not a local good luck... Saw a guy sit on one of the couches for as long as I was there 1:30 hrs- he was checked on 2 times because the waitress was sitting on another table with her local friend. I sat at the bar and had to request a drink when there were only 2 of us at the bar and maybe 5 in the whole place. They also need to hire people that are familiar with cigars. My tip sit at the bar if your not a local - but show up early because they have 4-5 stools. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for about 10-12 years. Started with Brooke and Bety (the mother/daughter team metioned below) and now with Gina. We've become friendly with most of the bartenders, mainly because they're super sweet, very friendly people. Good cigar selection, nice choice of drinks and I've always loved the low light interior. I still swear that either the "leg" lamp or the Kramer picture is going to have an unfortunate "accident", but the overall decor is very comfortable and well done (yeah, Gina!). I used to like going here to enjoy a scotch and smoke a cigar. Today I went in to buy some pipe tobacco. I started using the scale to weigh out an ounce until I re-read the sign. They're charging $4 an ounce - by volume. I weighed out a "scoop" and it came in at 0.1oz. so they're charging $40 an ounce. Online prices are about $3/oz. I can understand a 200-300% markup for being available locally, but 1000%? Who sells a loose fluffy product by volume? Outrageous. read more

Love it, Love it, Love it....... A big thanks to Gina and Jeremy for saving what is one of Modesto's best locations. The cigars available on location are vast, and will satisfy most everybody. I love to come in and grab a smoke and a glass of scotch. They have some very good scotch and whiskey offerings, and it all plays very well together. I have been in for some events when they have cigar vendors and these are always a great time. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a great place for a smoke and a drink. A good place to sit and have a cocktail and strike up a conversation with a diverse group of people, from authors, to dairy farmers, to physicians, to regular guys like me. The bartenders are friendly and helpful, conversational when you want them to be, reserved when you want to be alone. I really like the place and have been going there for many years and a couple of different owners. They pour a good drink. One of the best in town. And surprisingly, not smokey as one would expect of a cigar bar, although there is the smell of cigars in the air (this is a smoking bar, after all). This place has strong potential too, But they allow cigarette smokers to burn their Marlboros, Winstons, Pall Malls and Newports, which just kills the atmosphere for a real cigar smoker! There is a BIG DIFFERENCE to people who enjoy a fine stogie! People who smoke cigars hate to get mixed up with the cigarette smoking community we are completely different! Cigar smokers and Cigar Rights people know this! I know I will not be going back! Go to a real Cigar Lounge and light up Marlboro and see what happens, would be asked to leave in a New York Minute!... Also the Cigar selection is very poor and not kept to any kind of standard, such a waste on what could be because the Humidor is very nice but it's empty. Filled with cigars you would find in it are at a local liquor store or At BEV MO (actually BEV Mo has a better selection of cigars than this place)!! I really wish I could talk to the owner and give him some kind of hand on how to get this place to its true potential, because it could be a Premier cigar lounge! I've been here a few times and have usually had a good time. The place itself is fantastic, and I've only seen two bartenders there. One is the blonde "Rockabilly" lady and another brunette. The blonde has always been cool, no nonsense but attentive to the customers. The brunette is attentive if you chase her down to get service. Tonight my girl and I stopped in and were the only customers besides a guy that had the brunettes attention. Once we got our cigars and drinks, that was the last contact we had with the brunette bartender. She was all into this other guy, playing YouTube videos/music on her phone loud enough that it sounded equal in volume (from our sitting area by the front door) to the music playing in the bar. There was no interest in us until we were walking out the door and we got a "Thanks for coming in". She sucks. Anyway if you go, hopefully you'll get the blonde bartender.
