There was no wait to grab a table for lunch for me and my dining partner. The dining area was quite large, and they have two private dining rooms off to the side. The first struggle was they have no hard copy menu, as they request that you scan a QR code to see the menu on your wireless device. Some of us don't embrace technology and that is okay. To make up for the lack of hard copy menus, they offered to let us use their tablets to peruse the menu. The service itself was lackadaisical, although the food came out quickly, and steaming hot (yay!). It took forever to get water refills to the point that I got up and refilled our glasses myself. Also, no condiments on the table, so I also had to grab those. We started out with an order of the scallion pancake, which was tasty and abundant. Then we ordered two of the Chang's dumplings which were out of this world amazing! The dumplings were soft and the spicy sauce they were in was delectable! For our entrees, we ordered Deep Fried Chicken with Roasted Chilis, the Basil Eggplant, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, and an order of their Shrimp Fried Rice. The Deep Fried Chicken with Roasted Chilis arrived, and while the chicken itself was amazing, the plate was mostly roasted chilis and not enough chicken. I chose this dish having seen serveral other tables order, and their dishes were brimming with chicken. Our, not so much. The Basil Eggplant was incredible. The flavor and the crispy outside make this dish great!! The Salt and Pepper Shrimp was a disaster. Most Asian eateries that I have been to, the shrimp are ginormous, with a light batter, and one of my favorites. At Sichuan Folk, the shrimp were heavily battered, extremely greasy, and the shrimp themselves were tiny, evidenced after removing the super thick batter. Do not order this dish. The shrimp fried rice was an extremely enjoyable surprise. The texture of the rice was fantastic, and the amount of shrimp, peas, carrots and egg was generous. Definitely will order this again. The service is what really surpised me the most. We didn't feel welcome, as we had to ask several of the waitstaff for silverware, napkins, and bowls to mix our soy sauce and chili paste. Those Chang's dumplings and the Basil Eggplant, along with the Shrimp Fried Rice are enough to make us want to come back and give it another try, after researching the menu some more.

The culinary experience was so over the top, I don't even know where to begin. IT.WAS.THAT.GREAT. It all started upon entering this smaller restaurant that has a peaceful ambiance, as we were cheerfully greeted by Jeanne, who knew we were arriving as our friend had called ahead. Snce we arrived a little early, and our friend was en route, we decided to try the scallion pancakes, with the Chengdu spicy dumplings and sesame bread which was enthusiastically recommended by Jeanne. The appetizers arrived and we all enjoyed them. The dumplings arrived in a spicy broth-like elixir that complemented the soft pillowy pockets of seasoned pork. The scallion pancakes were mediocre at best, but the sesame bread was amazing!! It had the perfect texture and savory flavor that was enjoyed by all. For our entrees, we ordered two dishes of the Stir Fried Shrimp with Yibin Chili and asparagus (extremely delicious), a spicy Clay Pot Fish, Beef and Napa Cabbage with spicy chili sauce (incredible spicy flavor!), Hot and Spicy Chicken (chunks of deep fried chicken, yum!!), Combination Fried Rice, and an order of the sauteed snow pea leaves. Everything arrived fresh and freshly prepared. Every entree we chose was exceptional! Our iced teas and ice waters were always refilled, and boy were we stuffed! I highly reccomend this restaurant if you're are looking for a more authentic Chinese dining expereince! Make sure to ask for Jeanne!

We arrived on a Wednesday evening around 7 p.m., and surprisingly, we were the only customers there, considering it was peak dinner time. We also discovered that we needed to pre-order the duck in advance. Luckily, the lady informed us that there was one available for us, but it would take about 30 minutes. We ordered the crispy cucumber salad, xiao long bao, and the dry-fried string beans. The dry-fried string beans were my favorite. The string beans had a delightful crisp texture and a flavorful taste. The cucumber salad was also good, but some parts were a bit soggy. The XLB skin was too thick and chewy, and it didn't taste like the usual soup dumplings, which was disappointing. I was excited for the duck, but I was honestly disappointed when it arrived. The portions were quite small, considering it was a whole duck. It wasn't carved tableside, which was a letdown. Some parts of the duck were dry, and the skin wasn't crispy enough. To add to the disappointment, they charge extra for almost everything. If you want more pancakes or their homemade duck sauce (which tasted like black bean sauce), you'll have to pay an additional $5. Another thing to note is that they are BYOB, so you can bring your own alcohol. However, the menu pictures on Yelp are outdated, and they only offer whole Peking duck, not half orders. Overall, the food was just okay, and I'll probably try a different spot when I'm in the mood for duck again.

Compared to other hot pots, the vegetable selection is a bit more limited, and they offer a variety of paid drinks like milk tea and canned sodas. Meat quality is excellent, service is friendly and now they include a homemade shaved ice dessert which is cool. The only unfortunate thing is that they've bumped up their "basic" menu quite a bit and kinda priced me out of what I would call a quick casual go-to meal. While I am happy they are doing well, it's just not a place that I can frequent anymore especially being that my wife doesn't eat that much anyway.
