Very good, highly recommend. Wifey had blackened flounder tacos with salsa and chips. Fish portion was generous and prepared perfectly. Brazed short ribs on mashed potatoes with asparagus caught my eye. It was delicious and came with a very rich Demi glaze gravy. Meat potion was rich and tender to the fork. We wrapped the night sharing a piece of carrot cake. Prefect ending as we watched the sunset from outside seating. I love this place. The chef never disappoints. Dropped in for lunch and had an amazing lunch. We searched for restaurants with plant based options and found this spot and they totally lived up to the description. I ordered the Veggie Wrap and my wife had then Asparagus Quesadilla. The restaurant wasn't too crowded and the food showed up pretty quickly. Mu Veggie Wrap came wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla and was full of fresh veggies mixed greens, artichokes, red onion, tomato, shiitake, crimini, & oyster, red bell peppers, broccoli with fresh guacamole & creamy dill dressing. The guacamole and dill dressing gave it a really nice flavor. My wife was happy with her Asparagus Quesadilla, it was full of flame roasted peppers, onions, tomatoes, asparagus, corn, black beans, wild rice, farmers cheese & spinach. You should call in advance to hold a time, especially during leaf peep season. We waited about 35 min at the small bar until a table opened. In the meantime, we chatted it up with the owner who gave us the scoop on Door County cuisine and recommendation for a supper club. He and his wife keep the cafe open year round with limited hours to keep his loyal staff employed beyond the season. My Alaskan flounder ($26) with Parmesan risotto and a marinated vegetable medley was a very good entree. The flounder was light and expectedly not fishy. My wife enjoyed her pear Gorgonzola salad as an entree. The salad expertly married the flavors and you can add a protein for a slight upcharge. My parents and I ended up ordering take out from Chef's Hat two nights in a row during our vacation because there was not many other dinner options in the area within walking distance of our resort. Their take out option is pretty efficient. You call and make the appointment and food is given a 20 minute time line but you can likely pick it up earlier than that. We tried many items during our two meals listed below: -TURKEY BLT: Sandwich has a nice amount of components and the bread was nice; however, it was way too dry. Needs a better amount of sauces if comes with. Additionally, it was sloppily put together so it felt like half of the items were coming out when I picked up the sandwich to take a bite of it. -POTATO SALAD: ok flavor a bit overly acidic though -TOMATO BISQUE: A great soup taste! Simple but robust. Went well with the turkey BLT and helped to make it not taste as dry. --LEMON PEPPER SHEIMP TACO: The tacos were pretty dry as well - not enough sauce on them. The shrimp was well cooked and flavored though. Additionally, the chips they came with were pretty small in quantity and also sadly pretty stale. The small container of salsa on the side was ok and tied it together. --APPETIZER SAMPLER: The olive oil bread points that came with the spinach and artichoke Parmesan was so good in addition to the spinach and artichoke Parmesan itself. The bruschetta was pretty disappointing it had the flavor down but was too summer squash forward instead of tomato. The stuffed shrimp was delicious and well cooked. However, the stuffed peppadews were just ok. Additionally, they liked to over dress the whole dish with microgreens which was really unnecessary. All prices for the dishes are pretty inflated for what you get but I guess that's what happens in a touristy area during peak season. All in all, an average meal option but nothing too impressive. read more

This place was recommended to us by a gallery we had visited and it ranked as one of my favorite visits for the week! It is casual, comfortable and affordable. The staff were friendly and very good at taking care of their tables. We sat outside on the patio and it was comfortable and nicely shaded. There were so many choices on the menu that I wanted to try which is always a good feeling to have on your first visit. I ordered a mushroom burger with a side salad. And not only was it a nice portion size, it was very enjoyable. Everything was fresh (no limp pieces of lettuce!) and the burger was not only flavorful, but cooked well without being overdone. Hubby had a 1/2 sandwich with bean soup and a piece of pie. I noticed quite a few other patrons choosing that option and I'm pretty sure that pie was the deciding factor for most people! I didn't try his sandwich, but I really liked the soup and the pie that he shared. We will definitely return next time we are in town! read more

Had a beautiful breakfast here, when the passing through Ephriam. Staff is all well trained and very helpful, even with help wanted signs on the doorway. Did not seem understaffed. I had a delicious, healthy wrap with fruit and an excellent coffee. Nice flavors and beautiful presentation on the food. Most seats can see the lake. I've been going to Door County for years, and this place has always been a solid choice for breakfast. But during our visit last Saturday, something was off. My eggs didn't taste right, and my wife's scrambled eggs had a strange texture. I think they were using egg beaters instead of real eggs. I've not had a bad experience, and this was clearly off. I'm not sure if that's their new standard, but it's disappointing--especially when the menu says "three eggs" per scramble. If you're going to advertise real eggs, use real eggs. Cutting corners like that changes the whole experience. Sadly, that's enough for us to take this spot off our list. read more

Came here for dinner on a Saturday with a party of 6 and got seated within 25 minutes. We were able to get drinks at the bar while we waited and I loved that they had so many cherry options. The cherry mule and the White Russian were good. It was quite warm in the dining room which was nice since it was so chilly outside, but we were able to crack a window to let in some cool air. Our server was new but he was very attentive and helpful. Blackened Tilapia Tacos - these very just ok. I think the fruit salsa brought out the fishiness of the meat. Pleasant surprise!!! Visiting Door County we walked into Chef's Hat; a little place clean well staffed, quick food. I ordered a turkey sandwich with a side salad. It was great! I'm picky so when I took a bite I loved the flavors, it had avocado, carved turkey and the usual on Parmesan bread. It was good and also the garden salad with dill dressing! Yum! My husband had the pear cranberry salad and loved it!!! They also have braised ribs and brisket entrees along with various selections of fish. We will come back and try something else. We dined at Chef's Hat for lunch and dinner. Both times we had an excellent meal. We ordered the beef brisket flat bread, tomato basil soup, the stuffed shrimp, penne pasta with chicken, and meatloaf at dinner. Each dish was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The stuffed shrimp comes topped with a good amount of herbs which I enjoyed, but some might want a little less herb topping. For lunch the next day we both ordered the Big Ben sandwich. It was delicious. We both recommend the potato chips as a side versus the potato salad. The service was very good. We had the same gentleman server both times. We came here for dinner on our first night in Door County- we were seated on the patio right away and enjoyed a really nice dinner. The patio is set back from the main street, but you can still see the water. My husband ordered a pineapple strawberry tilapia and I got the ahi tuna. We also tried the crab stuffed shrimp appetizer, and while it was small, it was delicious. The dinner portions were on par with a fancier type of a restaurant and the food was tasty. OK, the pear pumpkin soup was insanely delicious. But wait, you say, what about the overall experience? Why cut straight to the soup? Well, it was that good. Sublime, sweet, complex, savory and guzzled down in rapid time by my good wife and me. The gorgonzola-pear salad was fresh, and my wife's rigatoni Alfredo with seasonal mushrooms made her smile. There were 4 of us arriving around 11:00 am for breakfast. The staff was very pleasant. The menu had a good variety, however, breakfast for me was very disappointing. I ordered the traditional breakfast, two eggs, bacon, toast and their breakfast potatoes. The bacon wasn't cooked it might have touched the grill, the potatoes were barely warm if that, the toast was bread not toasted. The eggs were perfect and if they had been at least warm they would have been the best part to the breakfast. I realize they were busy but I'm sorry cold and uncooked food isn't what I consider good. read more
