We come here on our last night every Door County visit. I always make a reservation a week ahead of time. Our server was Kevin and he was the best great sense of humor very attentive. The food was wonderful. My husband had shrimp tempura appetizer and the small fillet. He loves getting the Door County cherry martini. He looks forward to it every time I had the Vol au vent Seafood dish it was heavenly, but rich, had to take half home. That was nice though because I got to enjoy it the next evening for dinner. My salad had the fresh made cucumber dill dressing very good no dessert for me. Grasshopper for my husband he always looks forward to that too. Cannot wait to come back. Everyone is so nice. Always busy, hard to get a reservation. Went on a Wednesday night at 5:30P. Huge bar area and spacious dining room. Seated on time and greeted with warm bread and butter. Split a shrimp cocktail to start, shrimp were modest in size but sauce was excellent. Side salads came and were surprisingly well done. Lettuce plus mushrooms, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber and croutons. Wifey went with the Wednesday special, perch. Generous portion served with mashed potatoes and green bean medley. Very good choice. I went with the seafood pasta dish. Had a fancy name but basically shrimp (over cooked), scallops (cooked perfectly), lobster tail (medium size but very tender), artichokes, and tomatoes over linguine in a very salty sauce. Proteins were very good, sauce was far too salty and ruined the meal. Service was excellent. Recommend with caution. Everything we saw served around us looked great. Unfortunately, I chose the wrong menu item. Will return to try other entrees. read more

We made a reservation for 615 pm on a Saturday. We showed up at 6 pm and waited until 620 pm for our seat. We ordered drinks at the bar and had great service. Once seated our server was great. A male server don't know his name unfortunately. We ordered Bruce's bread as an appetizer and it was amazing. My husband had a king cut prime rib and said it was amazing. I had the 10 oz filet mignon medium well and it was cooked to perfection. It was a little loud in the restaurant but overall had no complaints. read more

Part of me is torn about leaving this review, because Alexander's is already very popular. But, we have gone here dozens of times over the last 30 years, and every meal has been wonderful. The food is excellently prepared, and the service is always attentive. Yes, it is upscale dining, but still a very good value. So, I encourage you to go, just not on the night I want to. read more

4 years since my last review? Definitely time to update! My older reviews still hold true so please see those as well. We always come here when in town and it's always delicious. This is what I'd refer to as an upscale supper club. They make a great old fashioned and you have your choice of a dinner salad or cup of soup with all entrees. Most entrees come with a protein, au gratin potatoes and the vegetables of the day. I usually get either the whitefish or the duck. On this visit I had the whitefish and it was absolutely delicious. It was perfectly cooked and simply prepared with lemon and butter which is exactly what goes with really fresh whitefish. They serve it with a side of tartar sauce...but I'd never do that to this lovely fish, so just left that alone. The potatoes and vegetables were good as always. Desserts are all made in house except for the key lime pie which is actually flown in from Florida. I love all their desserts, but went with the key lime pie which was amazing. They also have boozy ice cream drinks if you prefer a drinkable dessert. Service is always excellent with a good number of servers who have been with Alexander's for many years. Definitely make a reservation if you want to dine here. It's popular for a good reason. read more

Not much to add, but always one of the most consistently delicious stop in Door County. Great service and we sat next to a window again. But many great seating options. I could sit at the bar every night and enjoy it. Had Chili-Lime salmon special tonight, and my wife had the Halibut. Both were great. Key Lime pie is a great choice! read more

We were really looking forward to a special birthday celebration here and we were disappointed that despite informing the hostess of the birthday, it was never acknowledged, mentioned, or celebrated with a desert. Very odd. The server was also not very informative when asked questions about the menu. The salads were good but nothing special. It would be nice if they had a cherry salad dressing? The biggest disappointment were the main courses. The seafood vol-au-vent served the lobster in its shell at the bottom of a soup like concoction. It was very difficult to eat without diving in the soup with your fingers. The bottom of the puff pastry was a soggy mess at the bottom of the bowl. Having said that the lobster cream "soup" had a nice flavor. This dish would be much improved if it was served on a plate with the sauce over the seafood rather than swimming it in a bowl. The sides were inedible! The green beans were gross, overcooked, and limp with a strong taste. The potatoes were a bland pasty dish. I substituted the wild rice and it again had no flavor whatsoever. Please offer a baked potato rather than the pasty, cold, potato mixture. The scallop dish was generous with six or seven scallops in each of our orders however, there was absolutely no pesto whatsoever. In fact, there was no seasoning at all just bland breadcrumbs. I added the cream "soup" from my sister's vol-au-vent to add flavor. Again this dish would have been so much better if they had simply grilled the scallops and added butter and lemon. The setting itself was nice with beautiful flowers outside the windows however, beware it did get very noisy. I hope a few "tweaks" are made to the seafood menu. It could be so much better. I would have to see a few updates to the menu before trying this restaurant again. read more

One of the best supper clubs in Door County! Not a cheap date, but always offers excellent service, generous menu selections, and a great experience. Save room for an ice cream drink desert. Called to make a reservation Friday for Friday night and was told they were all booked up but we could come in at 4pm when the bar opened and get on the 1st come 1st serve list, ok no problem. We showed up at 4 when the bar opened to get on the list... The hostess looked at us and said, "NO!, It's Friday in Door County we won't have any openings for YOU until maybe 8pm or later!" They close at 8:30 and we got the message loud and clear, we were NOT welcome and there would be NO list for US! It's too bad the hostess was so quick to turn away the $400 we went next door to The English Inn and spent. The menu looked great and the restaurant had a great supper club feel for sure but we obviously didn't meet the standard of the hostess last night so we can not comment on the Drinks, wait staff or the food. Well, a once stellar that never disappoints has disappointed a couple visits this year. The last one was the Tuesday lobster special. There was nothing special about it. 1. Menu says cold water, these tails were obviously warm water. 2. The lobster meat had a lot of black spots on the underside, and my first tail was mushy or undercooked - very unappatizing. What happened? We've been coming here for years and always had an excellent meal but this past weekend was a flop. Calamari wasn't deep friend and was just cooked squid in a buttery mess. Lobster bisque was a watery liquid mess. Stuffed shrimp was decent but also a sad sloopy mess and my husband ordered steak with a cognac sauce that was disgusting. Sides are also very random, scalloped potatoes with a sesame green bean mix. Silverware and napkins were dirty....! Hopefully this was a once off bad meal but I really don't know if we will be back. We had a reservation for 6:45pm on a Friday night. We checked in and sat at the bar for 5 minutes when our buzzer rang. Our waitress was attentive and on top of everything. We started with the complimentary bread which was so good. Warm and soft! I ordered the chicken carbonara and my boyfriend ordered the cowboy steak. We both upgraded to the side Caesar salad. The salads were good. The carbonara was a very large portion but I thought it lacked flavor. It was $38 dollars and I thought that was very overpriced for the flavor. My boyfriend loved his steak. All can I say is WOW! What an amazing dinner I had recently at Alexander's. The place gives an up north higher end supper class vibe, I love all of the fish and seafood on the menu! Came up to Door County on a whim to catch the last of the peak fall foliage. After a day of hiking I was in the mood for a nice steak. I am so happy to have stumbled upon Alexander's. I didn't have a reservation but I came right at opening and found a spot at the bar, good thing I did because this restaurant filled up SO fast. My bartender Ian was so lovely to chat with and handled the hordes of people expertly. The bar is full service. My fillet melted in my mouth and was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The potatoes are next level. The asparagus was such a nice addition, and the mushrooms were sautéed very well and not too saturated with butter. Ended up chatting with some friendly locals that shared their crab cakes with me-- which were also fantastic. Dined here about five years ago, and I just cooled off enough from that experience to talk about it. The hostess was pleasant and smiling, but the wait-staff were unprofessional through-and-through. Very awkward experience... I was in the ladies restroom, I used the restroom and while I was washing my hands a young man walked in (an employee) but he didn't knock or say anything. I felt very uncomfortable but said "hello" and he said hi and proceeded to go into the stalls to put toilet paper in there. I told the hostess about my experience and she literally ignored me and asked if I had a reservation. Very awkward and somewhat rude. Not sure what else to say... My mom, cousin and I enjoyed an all you can eat Thanksgiving meal at Alexander's. As always the food was spectacular and the service on point. A plate full of deliciousness was brought out complete with turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes and green beans and seconds would be available if you so desired. Choice of a salad or soup was offered first. I mistakenly assumed the pie would be included (it was not) which was disappointing (but that's on me). We love their version and presentation of the escargot. The soups are also always outstanding. This place is amazing. I haven't been here is a VERY long time. So long ago- it was their old location. They were packed on entry and were goi g to have us wait a minute for our reservation. They noticed someone in our party that was old/walker/ difficulty standing and they immediately seated upon seeing this. So kind and thoughtful. They didn't need to do this. Drink menu was great. Love the cocktail choices and they were really reasonable with pricing. Dinner- the walleye was fantastic and all the sides with it. Everyone else in the party loved their entrees too. In short, everything was off the rails - amazing. So good! We ordered three deserts too. I probably would not order the tiramisu again bc it was too sweet (yet I ate it all).
