The wine selection was great. The food was amazing. I had a filet mignon with baked potato and green beans. I think my partner had parmesan crusted baked haddock. Also wonderful. The decor was amazing too -see pictures. Great desserts. Oh i forgot meal included soup and salad bar. The vegetable beef soup was tomato based and great. Salad bar was good. Menu indicated restaurant is owned by someone in the Lautenbach family and the server and the host and two others were Lautenbachs. Famous winery is by another person in Lautenbach family. read more

Let me preface, the only reason im not giving this 1 star is due to the 50% refund they gave us. So, the building itself is beautiful and is a great atmosphere to dine in. The food was also pretty good. We came in at buffet time, and I can confidently say the biscuits and gravy were delicious. The problem? Literal maggots. My sister ordered a simple cranberry juice, and upon receiving it spotted a maggot wriggling on the side of the glass, with another floating inside (this glass is not in the pictures). Trying to be pretty moderate my sister went over and quietly mentioned it to an employee, which gave us a new glass and assured they had just cleaned the spicket. Either this was a lie, or theres a far larger issue because the second glass we recieved (pictured) still had maggots... Obviously we all completely lost our appetite. The employees handled it well with the refund, but this place should definitely be looked at by a health inspector. read more

A group of 8 of us were part of a Door Co Trolley tour that stopped here for brunch. The buffet had salads, soups, a handful of breakfast items, chicken, ham, beef, and a few other items. They were all OK, and very friendly for families as nothing is seasoned all that much (which is not great for me). We got a Bloody Mary or Mimosa as part of our tour and they were our least favorite of the 3 stops. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the building and grounds are impressive. read more

This is the lunch spot for the door County wine trolley. Our lunch was pretty good and we were served with good service. This review is for the other patrons in the Log Den who sat and waited for well over 50 minutes while we got our food. Because this is the normal lunch spot of the door, county wine trolley, it is my expectation that they would be staffed well enough to serve both the trolley patrons and anyone else that comes into the restaurant - especially for lunch on a Saturday. read more

We stumbled across this gem just off of 42, and wow--what an incredible surprise it turned out to be. As a family, we were looking for something unique and memorable, and this place gave us exactly that with our first-ever fish boil experience. From the moment we walked in, we were in awe. The building itself is absolutely stunning--so thoughtfully designed and rich in character. You instantly feel like you're stepping into somewhere special. We started our evening at the bar where Mary crafted some seriously great cocktails--she clearly knows what she's doing and was so friendly, too. We made our way outside and grabbed a table right in front of the fish boil setup to get a good view. The man running the fish boil was not only knowledgeable but incredibly entertaining. He kept everyone engaged and laughing--really made it feel like an event. Then, to top it off, the family dog, Frabill, came bounding over to greet us, followed by Steve, one of the owners, who introduced himself and made us feel right at home. When the food was ready, we went inside for a buffet-style dinner--and honestly, wow. The fish was delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned, with tender veggies and some of the best chicken we've had in a long time. And then came the cherry pie... made by the owner himself, topped with homemade whipped cream. Just incredible. What really sets this place apart is how much heart is in every detail. The staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive to every guest, treating everyone like family. After dinner, they played a short video telling the story of how the cabin was built--what an inspiring journey. The craftsmanship, the family legacy, and the love poured into this place deserve a book of their own. A special shoutout to Steve--your kindness and stories added so much to our night. The restaurant is absolutely charming. The environment is warm and welcoming. One of the owners greeted us as we entered and she was so engaging and sweet. I can say the same for our waitress, just lovely ladies. We weren't super hungry. My husband had the soup and salad bar and I ordered a cheeseburger. We both enjoyed are food very much. I would like to go back and try some of their other entrees. I did think it was just a tad expensive for what we ordered. However, the atmosphere and staff made it worth the price. read more

I can't see how anyone could criticize this place. The family is historic in Door County and they built the place themselves. The food is amazing! The best whitefish ever and I love the salmon. The Sunday buffet is outstanding. We had reservations for 9AM when they open so everything was being ser up but the breakfast foods were ready. The eggs and bacon were very good. The biscuits and gravy were great as were the pancakes. The many choices of the lunch items completed the meal except for the cherry pie. The service is excellent. Super friendly and made us feel welcomed. The highlight is how beautiful this restaurant is inside and out. My wife took so many pictures we spent more time than we expected. We had the breakfast buffet and it was extensive . There were breakfast and lunch dishes and desserts which were sliced and plated. Everything was super fresh. The lettuce was clearly from a garden. I liked the beef and fish. The fruit and veggies were obviously sliced that morning. The fresh zucchini soup was made by the staff from zucchini from the garden. My wife thought it was delicious. The staff were very nice and friendly. It's a family business. They were out and about collecting plates and refilling serving trays. They accepted a reservation for our party of 12. First off none of this involves the staff who was working on Sunday evening. We had a 6:00 reservation for 4. When we arrived they all seemed to be running around trying to get things together. We decided to give them some time and had a drink at the bar. They advertise a large soup and salad buffet. Everything was empty or dried out. We ordered our food. 2 of us got barely warm food. The others food rated a bit higher. My beef stroganoff had 4 pieces of meat. It's a beautiful establishment to bad the management doesn't have it under control. Sad to say we will never be back unless they find new management. read more

The place is beautiful but the food is just not that good. Stick with the soup and salad if you go here. The only thing that was good out of a party of 12 was the seafood chowder and the prime rib. The potatoes were improperly par cooked and reheated. The vegetables were uneatable. I could not eat either. I don't like wasting food, I tried to eat them. I just ended up getting more soup and salad. The walleye was over breaded. To the owners and chefs: Don't bother cooking or serving vegetables if you don't know how to do it correctly, you are just wasting food. read more

Our family has had a tradition of coming here on the Saturday before Easter (except Covid) for several years. We were all so excited to return last night! However, we found a very limited menu. No steaks except prime rib. And very high prices for what was offered. One of us ordered chicken (half chicken for $25) and he was first served two reheated pieces. No dressing. The waitress tried so hard to please that she brought him some dressing intended for Easter brunch. Several of us ended up ordering sandwiches when we had come for steak. We went later in the evening, and towards the end of the summer (so not too busy). The prices are intimidating but you get a large amount of food. Salad bar, rolls, and your dinner. The bruschetta was delicious! Had the chicken parm and was underwhelmed. Though the quantity was large the taste was meh. Bartender was sweet and greeted us with a smile, as did the hostess, unfortunately our server didn't have that same demeanor. I don't know if it was because we had two children with us (8-year-old well behaved girls), or if it was towards the end of the night, but she just seemed annoyed and never smiled. As we sat there, we noticed that the employees were all handling very large service areas (such as the bar which is large and had 1 bartender with the occasional help from another employee). When we sat for dinner, we noticed the same thing in the dining area - large areas handled by 1 server. Our server was very good. She took our order quickly, got us on our way to the soup and salad bar and brought us bread. That's when it started to go a bit downhill. The salad bar was awkwardly laid out without sneeze guard over most of the items (only lettuce, shredded cheese, pasta salad and salad dressings had a sneeze guard - croutons and bowls of mushrooms, onions, cucumbers and other toppings were not protected). Everything was fresh though so hopefully everyone ahead of me was clean and withheld any urge to sneeze/cough/etc. Now for dinner, the wait was over an hour. This I don't understand except to assume that the kitchen may be as short staffed as the service area. We got to the point we really wished we could just leave without feeling a twinge of guilt to the service staff who were great. So, we sat. When our meal was ready the server apologized for the wait. My husband had filet and I had the steak Diane. Both of us enjoy medium rare. For both meals the beef was underwhelming. Not very flavorful. For my meal, I had the creamy mushroom sauce which made up for the blah beef. Service was 5, food was 3, wait 1. The service staff definitely work their hardest and do a great job. read more

I love stopping here for lunch on the way to the Door. The atmosphere and food is great, as well is the building and decor. My sister had the Bandito Burger which she said was very delicious. It smelled so good from across the table. Once you put it together, it can be a challenge to eat as it is quite tall. However, when it comes to good food, you always figure it out. They had a lunch special of a perch sandwich that day and that is what I ordered. The breading was very light and the fish was done to perfection. I did not put the tomatoes on my sandwich, ( I usually don't on a fish sandwich) however I did eat them by themselves, fresh indeed. The sandwich was fantastic. I would definitely order it again. I always try to stop here at least once when I am in Door County. It is a bit out of the way if I don't stop on the way up or on the way home as it is a quite a bit south of where I stay, however it is definitely worth the trip. read more

Went to watch Badger game and get dinner at a 'bar'. We were told we couldnt eat dinner at the bar, only apps. There were about 6-7 apps options, that's it. Bartender told us there was a separate viewing area for the game if we wanted dinner. We were paying customers and should have been able to eat dinner where we wanted to eat. I could understand this'policy' if the bar or restaurant were full, but there were only a few others. We liked our good seats at the bar. Great bloodie, but the food? Wouldnt know, we left to eat where we could watch game and enjoy our meals. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL building, probably wouldn't go for a meal but maybe a drink. We were turned off by the 'rules'... they seemed desperste for customes as parking lot was empty all day.... on a holiday weekend. Assuming others had similar experience. They need to cater more to payimg customers, we would have spent a decent amount there, but they wouldn't allow us to. read more

The reviews kind of make me laugh. The "log den" name and exterior might attract people expecting more of a bar or cabin like menu but the menu is very nice and thought out. I read reviews that the food was lack luster or cold. Our service was great and out food was hot and wonderful. My mother was pleasantly surprised how well the broiled whitefish was cooked and I asked for my shrimp and scallops blackened and they were great. The English Inn has the best Ice cream drinks, and that's where we originally intended on going but they were closed and the Log Den was a great option and we finished the meal with a well done brandy Alexander. The log den isn't the best restaurant in door county, but it's a solid choice if you're around carlsville and I don't think it deserves the poor reviews I read. read more

I've been here a few times and each time was less than impressed. The food is okay. Nothing spectacular or worthy of writing home about. It's a bit overpriced for what they offered. On a positive note the decor is nice and if you are a fan of the rustic look It's well worth having a meal at the restaurant.
