My food was lukewarm, and that's what I found this dining experience to be. We were seated right away. We had intended to go to the fish boil, but it was canceled and required reservations. Well, the message on the answering machine let us know neither of those things... We looked a menu and decided to stay. The decor was a little over the top. The woodsy theme is very apparent. I think we'd get the message with a few less critters around. There's an eagle perched looking over the dining room. There's a santa's sleigh uptop a big triangular fireplace... wtf?! The country music bordered on annoying, I couldn't decide if I wanted to go to sleep or just leave because of it. Our waiter was over the top as well. He was I think trying to be funny, but just came across as overdramatic and slow. He set down everybody's food and did something else before serving it to a table. Maybe that's whats responsible for the lukewarm food? The food... I ordered shrimp and scallops with a side of rice and veggies. The shrimp was hard to get off the skewers and the scallops were a little tough. The salad bar, well, Pick'n'Save has a better one. The soup, Chicken Vegetable, was top notch. If I could have just gotten the soup I think I would have been happier. This place is confused I think. I'm not sure where all the negative yelped came from, possibly because we came off season and literally were the only table there. But on to the review, Katie our server did a great job, she knew the menu very well and even knew the cook overcooked the steaks. The wife and I had the 14oz ribeye, I got a side of their Chardonnay mushroom sauce which was very nice. My son had the sea bass topped with crab and saffron sauce which was excellent. My daughter had the broasted chicken which was also nice. Thierry warm bread and herb butter also rocked. Salad bar was decent enough as well, the chicken and rice soup was quite nice. I was wondering about all the mixed reviews. We were invited to join another couple for brunch buffet Sundy. Keeping in mind the other reviews here is my experience. We were greeted at the door and asked to wait as the hostess was dealing other customers. The decor was that of a north woods log cabin, hence the name. We were seated 5 minutes before seeing our waitress. The place was about 25% full. While waiting I observed the place for cleanliness. Very clean as well as the glasses and plates. We ordered beverages and the buffet. We went up to the buffet table. The salad was nearly empty but had a good selectipnd of add ins. The bacon and sausage were cold the eggs hard and rubbery. The pork roast, mashed potatoes and gravy were hot, but a little on the salty side. The steamed vegetables were over steamed and limp. The deep fried shrimp was good but barely warm. They had a smoked salmon which was really good,but I wish they would have had it on ice to keep it from going bad. We were half way through out first plate before our drinks arrived. The desert bar was really lame. Only chocolate cake and cherry crisp. I understand now the mixed reviews as there are good and bad qualities to this place. Well, I've tried this restaurant several times and I've finally reached my limit. I went there with two of my girlfriends and each of us ordered a philly cheesesteak sandwich and it was served on a huge bun with little meat or cheese. The flavor was so bland that we asked for some horseradish sauce to zip it up a bit. When the server arrived with our little cup of sauce we plopped it on our sandwich hoping it would help....but....the contents of the "little cup" was actually PANCAKE BATTER!! Keep in mind that we had already doused out sandwich so when we got the servers attention we told her that the sauce tasted like cake batter to which she insisted..."no, it's horseradish sauce!" She insisted more than once that we were wrong. We took yet another bite and got her attention a second time....to which she finally went back to the kitchen to find out what she had served us. She came back and told us that she had grabbed the pancake batter instead. Now here's where it got really good.... Although she did say she was sorry, she didn't offer to bring us a new sandwich and she didn't adjust our bill one penny! Seriously? btw....the service has ALWAYS been very, very slow. I've tried this restaurant off and on over the years thinking it would somehow improve but sadly it has not. I was disappointed. Mid-Day, mid-week meal. This could have been so much better. Such a fabulous facility and even though it was near-empty, the service was really poor. Seems to be slipping. The Log Den is mediocre at best. I ordered a NY strip steak, medium-rare, and it was beyond well done. Dry and tough. There's nothing about the food here that sets it apart from any other restaurant and you can definitely find a better meal elsewhere. However the service is fantastic! The Log Den is an iconic Door County log house. A true masterpiece of craftsman architecture. We sat outside on the spacious patio. Our server was very attentive and was able to answer our questions about menu items. We both had the perch fish fry dinner, which came with the soup and salad bar. Soups were tasty, salad bar was fresh. Perch dinner was good. A good choice for dinner. read more

Interesting place. Really over the top woodsy decor, which is cool for the area it is in, certainly better than a lot of local places that don't make an effort. And it's huge, we were there on a weeknight during "season" and I would have expected more people, but there were quite a few but they just sort of disappeared into the vastness of it all. Food was very good and reasonably priced and good portions. Spinach dip appetizer is a must. Even the house salad was nice. Wait staff was very professional. You should give it a try. read more

My wife and I were there last fall and we LOVED it! I had the walleye and it was perfect. Great atmosphere. The building and location were beautiful. It was a pleasant surprise to find in door county. Honestly, I am surprised at the poor reviews on yelp. Perhaps they have improved service and food. I will say it was not busy when we were there so perhaps we got lucky. Bottom line is we really enjoyed the log den, despite its cheesy name, and are looking forward to going again. I have come here twice a year since they opened and every Thanksgiving. This year I called and made a reservation and I arrived early and waited. I was watching people arrive and even those who did not even have a reservation and have same size party get ahead of me. I like their buffet but I think the elderly host dropped the ball and did not even apologize. Not certain I want to return now. The server was great and their prime rib was great but this experience made me drop my rating. I will think of this place last amongst all the other choices next time. read more

I had oysters Rockefeller (they came out cold) and sent back the tuna because it tasted off (could tell it was frozen cause it was watery). Food is not fresh, it's all frozen. Clearly whoever is running this place is not experienced in running any type of business. Had the worst meal of my life here a couple of years ago. I ordered white fish with a cherry sauce. A Door County staple I thought. It was clear the fish had been frozen. It was cold. The cherry sauce was bright red like it had been made from Maraschino cherries. Sickeningly sweet. The mixed vegetables were clearly from a bag of frozen vegetables. The salad bar is a joke. We stopped here for a Bloody Mary and lunch. At first we were worried because we stood in the empty expansive bar area. Once we were noticed we were greeted by a friendly lady who was "doing it all". She made us some tasty Bloody Marys with Wisconsin's typical beer chasers. I ordered a Philly Steak sandwich with onions & peppers with the homemade chips. Oh yum those crispy chips. I found the reviews and log cabin exterior very misleading. This place was not properly staffed on a busy Friday night. My first impression was frazzled hostess and then a wet dirty bar rag on the bar and a very strong smell of yeast from the beer lines. We waited for 15 minutes to be waited on at the bar with no acknowledgment. While we waited we walked around to see a very messy buffet and overheard customers saying they were just going to go to bar to get a drink as their servers were too slow. We just left and skipped our reservations. I hadn't even had a glass of wine yet and was already disappointed. Seemed chaotic and dirty. I'll never go back. read more

Our 4th time here in 3 years, 1st time for dinner. Still have not had to wait to be seated. Great for us, but it was filling up after 7pm tonight, good for them! Had 1/2 order of short ribs, most meat on ribs I've ever had , flavorful too. Spouse had steak Diane, also very good. Very good service and pleasant people all around. Definitely recommend this place. Not a drinker so can't comment on their drinks. Not an inexpensive place, but not overly priced for the area, they do have sandwiches. Very disappointed during our visit to the den. Our rolls were frozen solid and not edible. Went to order the prime rib and they were out of it. Mind you this is the second time this has happened to us. Ordered the ribs instead and they were pure trash. It was just some terrible bbq sauce slabbed on them. No flavor whatsoever. We went to the Log Den tonight for dinner with a 6:30 reservation. The hostess sat us and informed us that our server would be with us "when she could" Not an impressive start. Our server Laurie showed up eventually and seemed put out that we wanted to place a drink order first. Obviously things weren't going well and when we placed our order she informed us that it would be a long wait. We ordered a second round of drinks and our top shelf martinis sat on the bar watering down in shakers and my husband went to the bar himself. I refused to pay for them. I'll make this simple and to the point: My 2 Cousins ordered Alfredo Fettucine pasta with shrimp ($29.99 ea.) it came with a few shrimp and scallops, they are both highly allergic to scallops and this was a huge concern for them. I ordered Pasta Calla Braise with shrimp ($29.00) with penne pasta tossed with asparagus, red pepper, onion mushrooms and artichokes and infused garlic oil and white wine . I envisioned a beautiful platter of penne pasta and the asparagus , mushrooms .........I received a bowl of bland noodles, chopped up asparagus, no artichokes and nothing garlic about it. When Josh set it down I knew I wasn't going to eat it. It looked disgusting. I should of sent it back! It wasn't penne pasta and for $30.00 a joke! We do not blame Josh.....he did not cook it, However for the price I would expect a server to inform me they are out of pasta and are going to serve it with soup noodles and I would of made another choice. I wrote an email a week ago and it went without response. Here it is again: On September 15, my husband Denae and I chose your restaurant to dine at, while celebrating the first night of our Honeymoon. We chose your restaurant, based on the appearance as we drove past to our hotel, as well as the proximity to Peninsula Players, where we were going to be attending a play after our meal. When we arrived, we were amazed at how beautiful the restaurant was. We loved the rustic, yet sophisticated feel of the logs, the beautiful chairs, and the stunning light fixtures. We were seated at a nice table near a window which provided a very nice view for us to enjoy. Here is where our story turns. Denae had a stroke three and a half years ago, at the age of 35. He is doing very well, but suffers from Aphasia. This is a disorder which makes communication difficult, but not impossible for him. If choices are provided, and offered slowly, he is able to tell you what he wants. Our waiter was Carter. Denae selected the Prime Rib, and asked that he have it blackened, as he has had it that way at other restaurants, and really enjoys it that way. Carter said he could do that, but explained that the meat may not be Medium Rare, but possibly more Medium because of the extra cooking. Denae said that would be ok. Carter rattled off the choice of potatoes very quickly. I knew right away that it was much too fast for Denae. I asked Carter to slow down and explained that my husband had a stroke three years ago and that it helps if he speaks slower. Carter apologized, after a horrified look appeared on his face. He did slow down, but only to the point of what you and I would normally speak. When Carter confirmed Denae's selection, he looked at me, rather than Denae. When I ordered my food, I selected a different potato than Denae had originally, and Denae changed his order to match mine. Again, Carter looked to me, rather than Denae. When the food came, I switched our plates, like I always do, because I need to cut Denae's meat. You see, the right side of his body is also affected, so he requires extra assistance with cutting his food. Once the food is cut, he is good to go. I placed the food back in front of Denae, and we were ready to eat. Denae told me that the Prime Rib tasted like mushrooms, which he hates. He asked that I taste it, and it did not taste very good at all. Carter checked in on us, asking me how I liked the food - seemingly ignoring Denae. He took Denae's plate back to the kitchen, without explaining that he would bring a new plate out. A few minutes later, Carter showed up with a new plate of food. Where Carter did attempt, but failed to acknowledge Denae, was by placing the food in front of me. This did show that he had paid attention to the fact that I cut his meat the first time. However, by doing this he actually patronized him. It would have been more appropriate for Carter to ask Denae, making eye contact (which was lacking once I explained Denae's needs), where he would like the plate placed. When Carter walked away, I could immediately tell that Denae was increasingly more upset by Carter's actions. Denae tried the food, and still was not pleased with it. When Carter returned to check on us, he asked me how Denae liked the food, rather than asking him. Denae shook his head and said that it still was not good. Carter appeared very agitated by this, grabbed the plate and walked away. When he returned, he explained that he tried it, and thinks it might be the blackening that is making it taste that way. Carter then offered another choice to Denae. Because of the way that Denae had been treated to this point, he had lost his appetite. I asked Denae if he would like to make another trip to the Soup and Salad Bar, because he really liked the soup. Denae said he would, and Carter said he would just charge for the Salad Bar. Denae finished his drink, and to our surprise, Carter asked Denae if he would like a refill. Denae said he would, and it took Carter a good long while to return with it. We watched him walk out of the kitchen joking with a young girl, walk back in and then walk out. It appeared he was more concerned with the girl he was following around than he was taking care of his customers. When we received the bill, it was placed in front of me, rather than in the middle or in front of Denae. We were shocked at the price that was charged for the Salad Bar, but paid for it and went on our way, happy to be ending this experience. Fortunately, this is not typical of how I see Denae treated. I could see the pain in Denae's eyes. I ask that you please provide feedback to Carter, and review with him proper etiquette for assisting customers that have disabilities. ________________ I just got off of the phone with Katie. Although we weren't able to go into the past and change things, I'm satisfied knowing that we were heard. Education is all that I'm asking for, and I feel confident that it will read more

Had server Sarah tonight, said they ran out of lemons, said we didn't get bread because the "kitchen burnt it," never brought our cheese curds, didn't bring extra sauce or a takeout box after asking twice. The wife ordered chicken Parmesan chicken was burnt on the edge and soggy in the middle on a bed of linguini in a pool of water. Come on really. !!!! Have been here several time this last time for fish with party of 8, place was not real busy and seemed to have enough staff, server was strange acted as if there was 100 people waiting for our table ran up to take drink orders but ran away before all of us could give a ordered she would disappear into the kitchen not to be seen. Food was so bad none of us could finish our meals only one meal a steak was good. The rest so salty you could not eat it, shrimp was on the verge of turning, scallops sandy and gritty, baked potato cold, fried fish terrible, baked fish tough and dry, duck was over done and dry so you can see that big range of menu iteams, cook needs to be fried, manager needs to fried for that matter just fire all staff and start over, we will never come back so it really doesn't matter. Having just returned from the Log Den, we wished we would have read the reviews prior to deciding to go to this restaurant. Driving up to the restaurant excited myself, my wife and our friends. The building and decor is beautiful and exactly what you want for the Northwoods. We were greeted by customers sitting at the bar. It took a staff person almost five minutes to say hello. Seems to me, the greeting should come from the owner or manager. The bartender was pleasant but didn't take time to listen to our drink order and made one incorrect. He did take care of the mistake. The choice of old school country music playing on a Saturday night made us nudge each other to stay awake. Our meals were mediocre. The use of frozen food products were evident. From the vegetables to the chicken used on the chicken Parmesan. Our friends salmon was over cooked. Kudos for the waiter for mentioning our displeasure to the manager. Nice of the manager to only charge us for the salad bar instead of the full price. Shame on the manager for not coming to our table to discuss. I guess it was easier to discount the meal than to find out what they could do better. Overall, I agree with previous reviewers. Food is so, so. Staff needs to be better trained and become more customer friendly. Owner / manage prescience would make you feel appreciated. read more

Great!!! We enjoy stopping at the Log Den every chance we get. People working at the Log Den are very friendly and go out of their way to serve you. Very clean atmosphere. Large menu, from sandwiches to dinners. Well stocked bar. Good salad bar. Food is priced accordingly well within the Door County area. Have been to the Log Den more than a half a dozen times within the year during different times of the year and have always received good service and good food. Thank you Log Den Staff! read more

We enjoyed lunch here while driving around Door county. Stopped around 3 PM and it was quiet. Quickly seated and order taken. Hubby enjoyed a cup of seafood chowder with his perch sandwich platter and my turkey club platter was tasty as well. Beautiful building and friendly server made this a nice late lunch.
